I’ve recently upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10.
Today I started vorpX for the first time on Win 10 and was greeted with an error stating that the “vorpX VR Driver Control” has crashed (according to Process Explorer it’s the “vorpControl64.dat”.
vorpX remains in the task as tray icon and can be configured.
As a verification if the driver is doing anything, I tried running “Skyrim” (which worked before on Win 7) and it worked fine.
I also tried to run “Metro 2033 Redux” (never tried before on Win 7) and it just displays the output on screen, or if I force DirectX 9 in the config file, the game just crashes.
Since I don’t know if that’s a game/configuration problem right now or related to the driver crashing from vorpX, I’ll leave questions about that out for now (since one game works and the other doesn’t).
I’ve reinstalled vorpX just to be sure that it wasn’t the Win 10 Upgrade messing with things, but the problem remains after reinstall.
You start vorpX and it goes “vorpX VR Driver Control” has crashed.
OS is Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit (Build 10586.164)
If you have further questions regarding this issue, please ask.
I hope this issue can be resolved.
Thanks in advance and for the otherwise great software!
Hi guys, I walk game with xbox one wireless control. I wonder if it is possible for vorpx trigger button down when I agaixo and jump when I give a jump using the tracking oculus rift
Not including FO4 here as it is better to not try to mod it in a more serious manner until the last patch from Bethesda drops later this year.
So what is needed and is it even possible to add room-scale to Skyrim and FONV(TTW)? Even a limited one?
I understand it will have limited use as many of the game mechanics will not work fine and there are only so many buttons on the (Vive) controllers but I still believe it will be cool.
There are several mods that make changes to the camera, I guess it is possible to create one that will allow the headset to be tracked in all directions. The player character has to be made invisible so you don’see the body from inside when moving around. And there should be some way to enable sneak mode depending on how low the headset it. I guess controlling weapons and spells with the controllers would be the most problematic.
Or maybe an option to switch such a “presence” mode on and off? So it can be used from time to time when it’s limitations are not a problem.
What do you think?
Thanks for replying guys,it’s just that I could find a lot of answers spread out through different threads on this forum, but not one dedicated to it. Especially with VR a lot of people prefer playing with a controller and when there’s no native VR support, you can bet the controls aren’t optimised for such games as well. So far my reasoning to create this thread.
I had seen something that looked like a gamepad emulator in vorpx, but couldn’t figure it out. To make this “tutorial” complete, what would be the settings in vorpx if you just want to map the right stick to mouse movement?
I’m guessing, set gamepad override to PARTIAL and everything off apart from the right stick. But after that I’m lost…
There are a ton of different programs you can use to get a controller working. X padder is good but I prefer joy to key. It’s free and easier to use. There are a lot of threads about this very issue. Many games require you to set up and configure the buttons your self via a program like Xpadder or joy 2 key. Like Bethesda titles usually have to map keyboard and mouse to the controller as dual inputs wont work, or the games just don’t support controllers due to age. I’m working on Oblivion rite now and have a pretty good set up but still fine tuning it.
Okay, just figured out for third category the easiest way to solve is install xpadder. Probably other software options to. This program let’s me use the controller as if it were a mouse or keyboard. So I configured xpadder to use only the right stick input and output it as mouse movement (x and y axis). Left every other button unaltered. Bit a fiddle with sensitivity, and in the actual game, deleted the keybinding for the right stick. Now even battlefield 4 works just fine in Virtual Reality with a controller. No jumping/snap turning/any other weird stuff going on. Hope this helps anyone. Day 2 user of vorpx.
A lot of games require either a mouse+keyboard input or just a controller. Since vorpx uses the headtracking by default as mouse input, sometimes the software needs manual configuration to get looking around in games to work with a controller. I believe there are 3 distinct categories :
1) The “clever” games that can deal with the problem themselves (example:DOOM)
– No problem, just looking around and playing with zombies.
2) The games that can only deal with one input device at a time. (Example: Far Cry 3)
– These games need some configuration in vorpx. Usually setting the gamepad override to NO, and changing the “headtracking as gamepad” to RELATIVE fixes the problem. Finally adjust settings on the gamepad tab in vorpx to finetune sensitivity of the “right stick” (which is now actually the headtracking).
3) Then there is EA, and I guess some other developers, who actually shouldn’t be allowed near a computer. Their ways of coding creates problems which I haven’t been able to solve with any configuration of vorpx just yet. (Example : Battlefield 4) In this game you can change at any given moment between the kb+mouse or controller, but don’t try to use them at the same time. All kind of weird things happen to your playing character, spinning like a toll most likely. Even configuring vorpx headtracking as if it were a gamepad doesn’t solve the problem. This is where you, my fellow vorpx user friends, come into play. I have seen people play it on YouTube with vorpx and a controller. In a sitting position that is. If you’ve got it up and running with a controller right from your lazy comfy chair, please do share your wealthy knowledge, for it’ll bring peace to a lot of us.
Sooooo,
After doing all the magic tricks:
– deleting the oculus folder in %appdata%
– uninstalling / reinstalling Vorpx (including deleting the registry stuff)
– disabling and re-enabling .net Framework 3.5
– reinstalling the June2010 directX repository
Nothing worked.
So I went into %localappdata%\Animation Labs\vorpX
and edited vorpControl.ini
under
[General]
and changed
bRunAsAdmin=false
into
bRunAsAdmin=True
and voila’ it works.
Now even if I change it back to
bRunAsAdmin=false
it works. So I’m not sure which voodoo trick worked… But I can open up the control app again.
Im not sure if there is a way to see if vorpX is recognizing the controllers or not, other then them working while connected and in vorpx. I’m not positive but the only on that should work “automatically” would be the Xbox controller(not sure about the Xbox one specifically though). The MS controllers you could get to work but it would be via a system that basically tells the computer your using a keyboard and map the in game functions to corresponding keys and map them to said controller. Some games you have to do this as a controller and keyboard+mouse cant be used at the same time.
I would maybe mess with your Xbox one controller some more, check around and there may be better drivers available for it I just don’t know. Checking to see if it is recognized by windows as a Xbox controller and not just a human input device or plain joystick. I prefer the controller myself but some times it takes some work to get configured correctly.
I’ve tried three different Controllers
Xbox One
MS Xterminator
MS Sidewinder
All work inside of steam but none seem to with vorpx. Is there anyway to tell if the driver sees the controller?
I noticed something else also. I cannot seem to create profiles under “Local Profiles”. When i click “Create now profile based on this one”, the dialogue pops up to name the new profile, but after that, the profile never pops up in the list. Also, the “Add” and “Remove” buttons for the .exe files in the existing profiles are greyed out.
If i “Reset profile to factory defaults” on any local profile, i get an error, saying if it keeps happening, i should reinstall Vorpx.
Having done that 4 times now, i dont think it helps.
Also, even when i run Vorpx Desktop Viewer, i get the “This game is not supported” dialogue box. I think something is wrong with the profiles and Vorpx is not detecting the .exe files. The “This game is not supported” box shows up in everything i run.
I have looked in my documents and settings folder and there is a Vorpx folder with all the settings and profile info, so i have no idea what is going on.
Note: If i look in my Vorpx.ini file, the:
sOculusProfile=
is empty. I dont know if this could be the problem.
I looked in the vorpx.log after running Borderlands Presequel and Fallout 4 and both says settings not available.

Hi everyone
I noticed something very interesting today while I was setting up CSGO with vorpx
The game play has been so so, without vorpx running I get about 250-290fps / s on max settings in 2560×1080 resolution
As soon as I run vorpx with geometry 3d it would go to a shitty framerate the game, even at low resolution like 960×1080
Anyway I was experimenting today with command line switches and saw there is -refresh setting
I set this to 90
Ohh my god, everything is as fluid as on regular monitor screen, could even run the game in full monitor resolution and it was going every bit as good as he monitor
As I can not run 90hz on my screen I need to run it in windowsed mode and not full screen
But this works perfectly, have not tried any other games but my guess is the results would be very similiar
We need to be able to control the refresh rate inside games to get full effect
Only issue I still have is that I get double crosshair in geometry 3d, everything else works perfect and I have gotten used to pretty much use the space between my crosshair as aiming point
Anyway hope this will help some people out
this might help people interested in CSGO
-w 1280 -h 1024 -novid -refresh 90 -windowed
I know max res I can get geometry 3d in is 1920×1080
Best,
Kandor
I apologize for being ambiguous. I will try to explain better here. For reference I am using an i5 4690K/980Ti/16 GB RAM/500 GB SSD/HTC Vive/SteamVR Beta, all stock settings.
This is what my game looks like in 2D:

Using these settings:

This is all default vanilla stuff, no mods. No I will try the default VorpX settings as applied by the Game Optimizer in VorpX:

To be clear in the above screenshot I disabled AA for testing purposes.
OK so at this point I see now way to take a screenshot of what I am seeing in the HMD while VorpX is running.
– Trigger + menu button on Vive controller takes a black screenshot
– FRAPS screenshot does nothing
In any case, what I see is the foliage looks like very low res 2D sprites, extremely pixelated, and I get around 25 fps.
I’m going to try GTA V and see if something similar happens.
Why does VorpX have no way of taking an in-game screenshot?
oh thats easy, im running skyrim in 4k, everything is turned on except shadows *i always hated shadows imo* and antialiasing off too
thats probably why i’d assume for sure
mine looks gorgeous, im actually in the game, i was going to make a whole new thread about this, but i just wanted to say thanks to ralf and whoever helped, skyrim in vr has really changed the way i see gaming, these vr devs have no idea what gamers want, THIS is what gamers want
there is nothing like it in the world, to be ABLE to just like BE INSIDE THE FREAKING WORLD is just……and to be able to do small things like if it was winter in real life, and in the game, i went into a merchant/hotel place, with the fireplace and just sit down and be in the ambience, is just insanely cool, to be able to just go into another world without the freaking phone dying ala gear vr lulz, its just something special, call me crazy but i think vr games shouldn’t be focused on vr, i think games should continue coming out normally but add optional vr support!!!!, or at least a file config to let ralf add vr into it :P
nah but yeah games should be made normally with both m/k / control / vr optional controls
Hi,
im in Alien Isolation, i enable the Full Controll of the Xbox 360 controller, but i dont now how to change the controls. When in go in the game pad settings, im not able to change the buttons asignement. I can see for example that E is assign to B, but im not able to change it…
Can u help me?
Thanks.
