so some mods like the unofficial patch cause my game to work really weird. vorpx render it in 3D, but i loose all control over the game. i get a head bobbing animation and that’s it. i can move my mouse in the menu but in game i don’t have control. changing setting in game no longer work when this happens. anyone got any ideas?

    Cinema Mode

That addition of the model that looks like you holding a controller.

At first I thought It was nice to have that, but then realized later on that if you happen to move your own body in the real world, your position with the virtual one is out of sync. And yeah you could press alt + space to fix that, however it isn’t 100%. I have seen it where the body of the virtual character is right up there next to my face, like the character has no neck.

Honestly I have seen the cinema mode of virtual desktop, and there was no virtual body, and that worked pretty well. And the comfy looking leather chairs in the virtual desktop cinema mode look nicer too.

I think the screen that vorpX offers in their cinema mode beats the cinema mode of virtual desktop, because traditional cinema screens are catering to a pile of people, and you really want to have your own personal cinema screen more personal. VorpX got it right on that one.

The issue that has been raised before on these forums according to a google search is, there is no hotkey to swap between cinema mode and virtual reality mode. YOU NEED TO HAVE A HOTKEY TO SWAP THIS because many games out there have NPC dialog and icons on the side, or chat boxes that are out of reach, or party menus that are off to the side. You cannot always drag these things to the middle of the screen. And thus because of the developer of the game’s lack of foresight on customizable UI, the other option is to have the ability to quickly zoom out and back in.

Well sure, there is to an extent, a way to zoom out inside VR, but it’s not 100%, and most of the time is not able to do the job. That is shift + mousewheel. It doesn’t always work to the desired result to see everything. Others have already asked for this feature to switch between cinema mode and virtual reality mode. What is the problem with a hotkey developers?

Other than this, the platform that vorpX is, is a very nice one that makes games that were otherwise just 3D on a screen, now more personal with virtual reality. Games such as Guild Wars 2 become a new game when played in VR. Areas that were old and already been seen at least a thousand times, becomes a new experience when putting on the VR headset.

    Thanks for reading. :)

anyone had any luck with this? The xbox one controller works well with the game in Steam normally. I have gone into the ingame settings to set it up but im not sure im doing it right. There is an override for the xbox controller as well as button mapping but they are all greyed out.

How do you configure the button mapping to match the xbox controller? When I access the ingame menu it seems that all the xbox configuration is grayed out

    Thanks for the help!
I got the steam controller working by choosing “Keyboard and Mouse” in the Steam Controller setup.
I was unable to move my character in game until, I configured the movement in Fallout game options menu.

Fallout New Vegas and most other Bethesda games do not allow mouse and gamepad input at the same time, hence you loose head tracking when you use the native controller support in the game.

Your best options are either to configure the Steam controller WASD+mouse etc. in Steam or alternatively configure it as XBOX380 gamepad and then use the vorpX gamepad emulation.

Does anyone know how to get the Steam Controller working in Fallout?
It works outside of Vorpx, but as soon as I launch the game in Vorpx I lose head tracking and can’t move my character.

How is anyone using a controller? Controller seems all messed up by VORPX which is ruining my ability to play.

Shadows should work just fine, not sure why they didn’t for the author of the reddit post you linked. So normally you shouldn’t need any shadow related ini tweaks. In regard to mods I would generally recommend to install not too many of them. With all the nice things available I understand that it’s tempting, but at least graphics enhancing mods often degrade performance, which should be avoided.

The one extra tweak I would recommend is forcing transparency antialising in the graphics driver control panel. Helps a great deal with foliage in Skyrim.

You might be able to gain a few extra FPS with some more arcane ini tweaks, but I honestly would rather spend that time playing instead of tweaking to gain 5fps.

    BTW:

After setting up a new machine with a GTX1080 last weekend Skyrim was one of the first games I tried. With that machine an unmodded Skyrim finally worked quite nicely at 1600×1200 using the “High” options preset in the Skyrim launcher on Vive doing nothing else than FOV/Optimizer and transparency AA in the graphics driver.

I always was sure the CPU was the limiting factor in Skyrim, but apparently I was wrong. A faster GPU helps a great deal.

    OK fixed.

I downloaded new drivers for my GPU, and that auto put my Vive into Clone mode.
Yep I was barking up the wrong tree all this time changing the display in Windows, when it should have been the Nvidia control panel.

So a lesson learned. The hard way.

But seeing as I couldn’t see an option for deleting this post.

Maybe it might help some other bod in the same pickle.

Now Skyrim is running as sweet as a nut.
And brother its freaky how real it is, when NPCs are life size.

P.s. the “ht as gamepad ” option is only available if you set controller override to NO . There is no need to override because the headtracking seems to add another right stick (your neck). Which makes the controller responsible for all the control input, so no mouse/gamepad conflict.

My settings so far with this option enabled:

    Input settings tab:

    Deadzone correction 21
    x sensitivity 40
    y sensitivity 50

Gamepad settings tab (don’t know if this influences anything, but to be sure)

    Left stick 0.15
    Left stick 0.15
    Deadzone left stick 0.01
    Yright stick 0.15
    X right stick 0.15
    Deaedzone righst stick 0.01

Alien isolation in game setting controller sensitivity to 5 clicks from left.

My resolution is 1920×1440 (manually added to engine_settings.xml)

It’s still not perfect, but works great while walking/looking and does eliminate all bending. You could turn the deadzones correction up to 22 or 23 but after that is starts to move on it’s own. (Lowering will make the screen move with you when turning your head very slow, as if there is no headtracking).

Maybe it’s a good starting point that can be finetuned by an vorpx expert.

I just uninstalled vorpX completely, remvoed the remaining files by hand (AppData/Local), restarted the PC and installed it again.
Configuration unter “General -> Misc -> Run vorpX Control as administrator” checked or unchecked, error happens with either.

The error remains, see screenshot below:

Scratch part of my statement please.
I only tried running Skyrim, but I didn’t actually play it.

If I run Skyrim, there’s no mouse input and no head tracking input at all.
I can control the game using the keyboard, but no mouse movement or head tracking is sent to the game.

If I move the head alone, it vorpX does track my movement in the VR-Screen option though.
