Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to reduce / eliminate screen aliasing in Cinema mode and Immersive Screen?

    I’m on a non TI GTX 1080

Last year I played quite a lot of Rocket League in VorpX and everything looked pretty crisp. Obviously not as crisp as my 4k tv hooked up to my VR PC, but the 3D effect was more than worth the trade off for me.

However this year I’m noticing a lot more aliasing. I don’t know if it’s just that I don’t remember last year because I was so wowed with the 3D effect or if there’s another issue going on. I’m using the beta SteamVR drivers with motion smoothing.

I’ve tried the following resolutions: 1600×1200 and 1920×1440. I significantly improved the image by disabling depth of field and bloom. Also I believe increasing super sampling helped (it for sure helped back in 2017 when I played Fallout New Vegas with Vorpx though that looked okay even without super sampling, but SS greatly enhanced it).

But I still get some aliasing. It’s most noticeable in the “barn” arena where there’s a lot of white textured lines on the ground. They alias like crazy and I found it really distracting. I’d love to smooth them out. Ingame anti aliasing didn’t do much, but didn’t harm performance either.

I tried crystal image normal and aggressive, and why they worked they didn’t remove that aliasing I mentioned with the white lines.

Any tips, hints, and suggestions would be greatly welcome. VorpX rocks! I’ve heard the cinema and immersive screens are the unsung heroes of this software so I want to use it at the best possible image quality. Up until now, I’ve mainly been using VorpX in VR mode, except for Rocket League last year which seemed to look much better than what I am experiencing now.

    Update 2018/12/15

vorpX 18.3.2.2 has been released. This (hopefully) concludes the series of fixes related to issues with the most recent SteamVR version.

    Changes/Fixes:

    • Improvements for WMR headsets related to issues with most recent SteamVR.
    • Fallout 76: FOV did not work since the game got official FOV change support.
    • OpenVR updated to 1.1.3b

    Update 2018/12/09

vorpX 18.3.2.1 has been released. This hotfix addresses the SteamVR head tracking swim/latency introduced with yesterday’s update. No other changes.

    Update 2018/12/08

vorpX 18.3.2 has been released. This is a maintenance release mainly addressing frequent frame judder in SteamVR mode after the latest SteamVR update.

In addition to that some related changes originally intended for vorpX 19.1.0 have been backported to 18.3.2, most notably support for Motion Smoothing (SteamVR), respectively Asynchronous Space Warp (Oculus). vorpX 19.1.0 is still on track for a pre-Christmas release.

    Changes/Fixes:

    • SteamVR: Fix for frequent judder below 90fps with recent SteamVR versions.
    • SteamVR/Oculus: Motion Smoothing/Asynchronous Space Warp support.
    • SteamVR: Supersampling <1.0 is now taken into account (only important for Pimax 5k/8k).
    • Oculus: Crystal Image setting takes user set super sampling into account.
    • D3D11: several multithreading fixes and improvements
    • The Witcher: better Geometry 3D profile, Z3D parameters tweaked
    • The Witcher 2: G3D did not work anymore, Z3D parameters tweaked
    • GTA V: scalable HUD added

    Update 2018/11/15

vorpX 18.3.1 has been released. This is a maintenance release that mainly adds support for Fallout 76. The profile is a fully featured DirectVR profile with everything DirectVR can do in the best case including automatic resolution, FOV (two methods) and basic roomscale.

Additionally minor issues with the program itself and other profiles have been fixed.

In case anyone wonders: the Frostbite engine G3D support that sparked a bit of interest recently is still in development and will be made available with the next larger update 19.1.0 before the end of the year.

    New profiles:

    • Fallout 76: G3D/Z3D, full VR, DirectVR: head tracking, resolution, FOV, tweaks

    Changes/Fixes

    • Effects that look bad in VR (e.g. DOF blur) can also be disabled with Z3D.
    • DirectVR scanner could time out with large scans in low memory situations.
    • DirectVR menu page didn’t behave correctly if both memory scan FOV and .ini edit FOV are available.
    • FOV scan was run despite .ini edit FOV being selected if both are available.
    • Fixed an occasional G3D crash in Fallout 76 (and maybe other DX11 games).
    • Arma III: DirectVR FOV was slightly too high.
    • The Witcher 3: some objects were rendered at wrong depth.
    • Crysis 3: reflections fixed, effect fixes.
    • Fallout 4: minor gun decals and fire glitches fixed.

    Update 2018/10/25

vorpX 18.3.0.1 has been released. This is a hotfix that addresses the issue below. No other changes.

    • Black textures with Z3D in some D3D11 games (18.3.0 regression)

    vorpX 18.3.0 released

After four maintenance releases for the 18.2 branch it’s finally time for a slightly bigger release with a bit of feature refinement and also more and enhanced game profiles. Most notable additions are: Dark Souls Remastered, Monster Hunter World, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey.

Experienced users can now create much better custom profiles by defining HUD/shadow etc. shaders.

    Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars (G3D)

This is the first DX9 title of the C&C Series. Perfect S3D, just one snag, when shutting down so you must terminate game manually through task manager with STRG+ALT+DEL. – Game reminds a bit on Fallout Tactics in S3D. Game is not very resource hungry, so you can turn up everything to the max.

    exclude CNC3.exe from VorpX
    – optimized for Cinema Modes
    – use STRG+ALT+DEL to terminate game manually
    – lower shadows and water reflections
    – 16:9 resolution recommended
    – availiable from the cloud

I’m trying to run Fallout NV with vorpx, but I can’t get the game to display on my oculus rift… Every time I activate my headset, it pulls up the annoying little “oculus home” menu and nothing else. Is SteamVR required? Is it an issue with my desktop display settings? I already enabled 3rd party software in the oculus app.

Also, when using “configure Vorpx”, when trying to select my device in the general settings, my only 2 options are “steam VR” and “generic headset”, with no mention of the Rift. Every video I’ve searched on this always allows the option for Oculus Rift. Was this changed in a recent update or something?

Any help here would be appreciated.

Oh yeah! Just tried G3D Main Eye right on Insurgency, Farcry 2, Arma 3, Red Orchestra 2, and Fallout 4, and they all worked beautifully.

Aiming feels more natural now, just as I had hoped. Thanks again for this. Very useful!

Yes, yes, I know. Fallout 4 VR is out and all that. But to be honest, while roomscale is cool and all, I’m not as crazy about it as everyone else seems to be. Especially in open world games where I’ll possibly be standing for a long time.

Anyway, my problem is that, while VorpX and Direct VR have worked great on many games, I can’t seem to get it to work on Fallout 4. Sure, Vorpx hooks into the .exe, and everything seems to be working fine.

Until it’s time to do the Direct VR scan. Oh dear god.

The scanning screen shows up normally and says “Preparing Scan” as it normally does, but then it gets stuck on the rotation scan. Forever. It doesn’t just freeze my game completely; it actually freezes my computer, and I often have to force shut down my PC.

I don’t get it. I disabled Avira antivirus, turned the settings down, and made sure it was running on a 4:3 resolution. It seems to be working well for everyone else, but not for me.

My CPU is an Intel i5-7400 and my GPU is a GTX 1060 3GB. Not a beast rig by any means, but it should be enough to run the game in VR.

In reply to: Fallout 3 performance

If that is the case, something is wrong.

Typically Geometry 3D results in a ~50%-60% performance decrease compared to playing on your monitor since everything has to be rendered twice to create the stereo 3D effect. For a game as old as Fallout 3/NV that still results in a very smooth frame rate normally though.

Please double check whether you maybe have any mods installed that have an high impact on performance. If so, please remove them. Try without any mods first and then add your mods back one by one to find the one(s) that affect performance.

If that does not help, you should consider switching to Z3D in the vorpX menu. Doesn’t look as good, but has a much smaller impact on performance.

You can find additional information regarding game performance in the “Performance Optimization” section of the vorpX help.

why is performance so horrible. I have an i77 gtx1080 ssd etc , great machine, but FO3 in vorpx stuttered horrowshow, making me feel sick just looking around.

I turned graphics settings all the way to low, but by then the graphics were unbearable (and still the problem persisted.) …I know there is a mod to get FO3 to utilize more of the computer engine, but it required FOSE (which will not work for god knows what reason, perhaps outdated and incompatible with win10,)

…and I just got my xbox gamepad in the mail today. …but just can’t work through the performance issues.

    Hi,
I’m thinking about investing in VORPX and a game or 2, but first I want to know if windows MR touch controllers are supported, (particularly for Fallout 3 and the call of duty series? ..and/or any other first person experiences..?)

…also… there is a Skywind (morrowind remastery in skyrim engine,) that will come out, …eventually I guess, …and if that mod had decent vorpx support, then I would definitely, immediately purchase vorpx just to play skywind in VR. …if you have any comments in that regard..?

    thanks

So it’s always been my dream to run Fo3 in VR at max settings along with an awesome ENB/ overhaul mods. Problem is, I’ve been a console gamer my whole life and I don’t know much about system specs when it comes to PC gaming

I’m looking for a gaming laptop that would be compatible with Vorpx while running games like fallout 3, new vegas, and skyrim. I’m under the impression that the reccommended specs for 2D gameplay are not always adequate for VR. I want to stick to something in the $1000-$1200 range

Would this get the job done?

Can anyone offer some advice or recommendations? I don’t know where to start.

Tough to choose five, but I guess my favorites are:

    – Fallout 3
    – Enderal (Skyrim total conversion)
    – Kingdom Come Deliverance
    – Bioshock Infinite
    – Thief (the remake from a few years ago)

Honorary mentions for Ori and the Blind Forest and Trine in cinema mode. So much better than on a monitor.

Why are you using Vorpx when fallout 4 VR full VR support for both the rift and vive? They recently updated the beta branch and the touch controls work perfectly just like with SkyrimVR.

I honestly wouldn’t bother with fallout 4 with vorx, it runs terribly with vorpx in geometry3d unless you are using zbuffer 3d mode. I dig vorpx, but if the games are out there with Native VR support that’s a no-brainer.

If you don’t have the money I apoligize, but it’s best to wait in that case for a sale than spoil it.

Has anyone had any success in getting RIFT online working in 3D?

I got it working within the game with no glitches by copying the Gamebryo engine profile for Fallout 3. But can not get 3D support working?

    Anyone has got this working?

    Well shoot…

I’ve tried searching a bit more around, looks like a few people have had similar troubles on this forum, but no solutions were posted. One even described the poor color depth issue. Search “spinning” among this forum if you haven’t already. Just maybe you could revive a thread or contact one of them to see if they ever got it working.

If you’re not already exhausted, some additional things that may or may not be worth checking:

    – Windows 10 is up to date (and directX)
    – No active anti virus scanners. (in Windows Defender turn off real-time protectoin)
    – Nvidia drivers clean reinstall. Without Geforce Experience, or 3D vision related drivers. (I never installed it to avoid conflicts with automated game settings)
    – Opt out of SteamVR beta (not using SteamVR beta)
    – disable steam in-game overlay
    – SteamVR developer settings: Allow asynch reprojectioin and Always-on reprojection, both on.
    – Not running Oculus process if installed. (I also have a rift so I stop the OVRService when using pimax steamvr, just in case)
    – vorpX is installed to C drive. Installed with admin rights.
    – Try launching vorpX manually with and without admin rights. Try launching games with and without admin rights.
    – vorpX is in steamVR mode and hit apply for every change made in config app.
    – spinning in fullVR mode as well as cinema mode?
    – close piplay after booting steamvr. Or try launching game with both off, allowing vorpX to autostart steamVR. (this sometimes helps my Fallout4 launch issue)
    – Pimax is not connected/on during system boot/reboot, only after. (can sometimes confuse the system or device)
    – Pimax does not show in Device Manager under Display/Monitor adapters. (If shows as Rift DK2, uninstall it’s device/drivers)
    – neither CPU or GPU severely overclocked or thread locked.
    – test hdmi port with alternate device (likely not necessary since other vr apps display color correctly)

and I’ll stop now haha. Again, these may not solve anything, just thinking out loud. Bet it’s something simple though, fingers crossed.
