So….as the title says.
I managed to get it working for Alien: Isolation (Steam).
Arma 3 (Steam) does not even start, and when i try it with Flight Simulator X (non-Steam), i only have a black screen on my Vive and the Monitor, but the game is running (i can hear the sound).I’m kinda pissed off. On the store page it sounded like it just plugs itself to all of those supported games, now it turns out that it works rather bad than good, at least for Vive owners from what i read here in this forum.
So, does anyone have an idea about Arma 3 and FSX?
I already disabled all possibly interfering hardware, HMD is in direct mode, and Steam VR and VorpX are running.I’ll preface this by saying that I think what vorpX is doing is great. I have been wanting to purchase it before even having my Vive. Since getting my Vive a week and a half ago I have been pretty blown away with the experience to be had. Playing Minecraft in VR has even been quite spectacular for a non-VR game with hacked in Vive support.
Now after buying vorpX and trying it out with Fallout 4 tonight I have been a little disappointed. I followed the guides on which settings to use for the best experience and it was neat but it wasn’t the same. I know people have said before that you aren’t going to beat the experience that can be had in a game that was made from the ground up to support VR, but people have been ranting and raving about vorpX. Maybe it’s because they’re mostly Oculus users that have yet to experience roomscale games? Not that I’m trying to knock Oculus or seated experiences as I have a Rift on preorder as well and haven’t tried Eve Valkyrie yet.
It’s just that with Fallout 4, and what I assume is to be expected for most of these experiences with vorpX, is a standard non-VR game that maps mouse-like movement to your headset with some 3D monitor-like effects thrown in. I found myself just keeping my head still and using the mouse to move around like I would have without a headset on because it was more convenient than using my head as the mouse. For not really gaining that much in terms of experience I lost so much in terms of playability, mainly readability of text and usability of hud elements.
The experience I was having did not feel like VR. Coming from the roomscale experiences with the Vive that I was having I couldn’t help but feel sort of disappointed. Maybe I’m expecting too much of the VR experience to be had with games not made for VR.
First, I’d like to commend you on the awesome support that you provide essentially as a 1-man-army.
I work Tech Support for the Delta Six GameGun and recommend that our users purchase and use your software to play their FPS in VR.
Our games are running upside down and with only the left eye showing display when we try to play anything in VR. I’m thinking that it must be user error on my end, but I am unable to come up with any solutions on my own. I think “I’m just doing it wrong”.

I have my oculus DK2 connected to the PC.I then open the VorpX software which in turn starts oculus home.
I make sure that I am logged out of oculus home and I remain in the white-tiled-floor-disclaimer-screen
-> At this point, do I look at the box for the 2 seconds to make the message go away, or should I start the game that I’m trying to play?
Could you type up a step-by-step setup process?
Part of my job is creating instructional videos to set things up. Our customers are frustrated and I am unable to find any solid information on how to get things running after the CV1 was released and vorpX updated. I’m unable to help anyone out when I can’t even get things to run myself. A whole lot of what I do to help people is a matter of figuring out what it is that they’re doing wrong so I can correct them. ..Well, now the tables have turned. I’ve hit a wall and I’m reaching out to YOU for help. I’m sure its just something I need to do differently or in a different order
Thanks for your time :)
I have a DK1 and Runtime 8. Today I tried to use vorpx like normal and I noticed it was starting very slowly. It eventually popped up a message that it was updating as a newer version was available. The update completed and I tried to start vorpx. I noticed it takes a long time for vorpx to start and I mean a long time. Like in the area of 2-3 mins from the time I click start to the time the program shows up in the tray. I then tried to run Dirt3 and a error message pops up saying vorpx failed to initialize Oculus. I tried portal2 which worked well before and the same error.
Are the DK1 and runtime 8 still supported? If no can I get a version that wont auto update until my CV1 arrives in a couple of months?
Topic: GZ3Doom
I recently downloaded and used GZ3Doom to play Doom 2 and Heretic with the Oculus Rift and I must say the experience was next to flawless out of the box. I love what vorpx has done and is trying to do to get modern games working in VR, but I have to ask what it is that GZ3Doom has been able to accomplish that vorpx cannot. I don’t mean to be critical, and I understand that Doom is much less complex to get running than, say, GTA V. I just marvel at how such an old game looks perfect in VR without any tweaking (seriously, I don’t even know if you can tweak GZ3Doom), yet with all my fumbling in GTA V, Outlast, and Amnesia I can’t get those games to ever look right (translation: immersive).
Anyway, keep up the good work, I know we’ll get there eventually.
Topic: Using the Steam Overlay
Here’s a bit of an odd issue: I’d really like to turn _on_ the Steam overlay while playing games with vorpX
I’m trying to play Fallout: New Vegas with vorpX using a Steam Controller, but to use the controller, Steam’s overlay needs to be running. Also, I’d like to be able to see its overlay (part of the Steam Big Picture Mode overlay) in-game, since the controller has its own menus for hotkeys and profile switching and whatnot.
For whatever reason, this actually works! … but only on the first run after a cold boot of my PC. I’ve been able to play the game with vorpX, Steam’s overlay, and the controller all working beautifully, at least long enough to start making a nice controller profile (even using touch menus within the headset). But, when I quit out of the game and start it again, the Steam overlay never loads and the controller doesn’t function properly. (vorpX injects fine in this case, however)
When the overlay fails to inject, I’ve noticed that I can — with the vorpX in-game menu — turn on “Direct Mode Show Original”. As soon as the game draws on my display, Steam’s overlay injects like it should have at the beginning. This gets controls working, but then Steam only draws its overlay on my actual monitor, and not in the headset.
I’m guessing that in the “cold boot” scenario Steam’s overlay injects itself before vorpX does, but in subsequent runs vorpX manages to inject itself first. Assuming that’s the case, is there some consistent way to make sure Steam injects its overlay before vorpX does (without having to reboot)?
My procedure for starting the game is roughly: 1) Boot 2) Start vorpX 3) Start Steam’s Big Picture Mode 4) Turn on Steam Controller 5) Start game with controller.
(If it helps, I’m using a Rift CV1 on Windows 10.)
Edit: I’ve also tried pausing the watcher before starting the game, letting it start up normally, and then resuming the watcher. Unfortunately this just seems to crash the game.
