Good that u found a workaround.
I am not even close to get skyrim working.
I still end up with 2 screens (1 per eye) in game.
Why am i not able to get this working?
Is there some kind of trick i dont know yet?
Hello guys.
When I start up vorpX it gives me “vorpX VR Stereo Driver Control has stopped working”.
Yes, I tried disabling antivirus, it does nothing, I get this error on every startup.
After that I went into Skyrim, and it appears to be working, I press “OK” on the first dialog box.
Then it shows me something about pressing SHIFT+ENTER to re-center the tracking. And that’s where the massive problems start.
I cannot get rid of this box. I cannot press DEL it doesn’t show the menu.
And the moment I do actually press SHIFT+ENTER, Skyrim just CLOSES. No error, no crash, it just closes. I even tried loading a game first, when ingame and pressing the combination, the game just closes. Every. Single. Time.
Please help me?
I’d just like to start a thread for users to post suggestions for future updates of vorpx as I have not seen an official thread for this yet. :)
I’ll start.
1 – Would like to be able to set up the gamepad bindings outside of the game. Perhaps in the vorpx config menu inside the game optimization menu for each game there could be a button to go into the gamepad bindings menu. I like to program the game bindings with the help of a quick and convenient google search, which can’t be done within some games because they crash when I minimize them. Even if they didn’t, its still annoying to constantly be switching back and forth between the two or even using the in-game controls list is awkward to use cause the vorpx menu and the game menu don’t overlap well. (Perhaps being able to change the transparency would help that)
2 – That leads into my second suggestion. Eventually it would be nice if players could trade gamepad configs or download pre-set up configs for their games. (I found the default one is not set up properly in skyrim)
3 – This one has already been brought up but lets put it here too. It would be great to be able to change the Vorpx default key mappings for recentering the positional tracking as this conflicts with some games. Skyrim for sure. Although Ralph has already stated it is going to be dealt with.
4 – I would like to be able to set the 3d depth higher than 2.5 in Z-Buffer 3d mode. Is this possible? Also convergence settings, are they possible too? Is there a difference between convergence and the IPD? Either way, if it’s possible a little more flexibility in Z-Buffer would make it better in my opinion. Not that I’m complaining, the fps is great for what you get as is. Just wondering if it can be made better.
Okay, those are the main things I’ve been thinking about when I’m play with VorpX but don’t get me wrong! I’m still blown away and love every second of it! The idea of this thread is to offer ideas and suggestions that may or may not make their way into future updates down the line. Just a place for us to talk about what we would like to see in future updates. Near or far. :)
Thank you to the VorpX team for making our VR dreams come true! :D
Hey Ralph, first thing I tried, but it didn’t help. However I think I’m getting at least close to pushing down the frequency of that happening.
It might be, that the error message popping up is a bit confusing, because it’s not the actual problem (when the config isn’t crashing). Can’t say for sure yet, because the last times it popped up in the Rift in Extended mode, so it might have been a different one.
Anyways, I had it at a point, where even though I changed the config, which often caused that issue too, it didn’t crash. The error messages I was getting at that point where caused because set Adminmode in the options, but the Star Citizen EXE was not set to Admin Mode (SC Launcher is btw).
I also have the suspicion that setting administrator mode and not restarting vorpX causes the issue. When you apply this, you don’t get the usual request for admin control. So you might want to add an automatic restart for one of the next versions or at least a pop up with the info that a restart is required.
@SC: When it works (and the cursor/menue doesn’t dissappear) it works pretty good. However it’s a pain in the ass to get it working since it’s still a lot of trial and error. I’m getting closer and once I have a workflow, I’ll add a thread about it.
Hi Ralph,
I currently have major problems with vorpX.
After hooking up with a game – in this case Star Citizen – and getting out of the game (because at one point the cursor disappeared and vorpx menu was opened out of the display area), I tried to start it again with the shortcut I created. VorpX then tells me, that VorpX Control needs to be running (it is). So I restarted vorpX, same issue. When I try to get into the vorpX config, the config immediatly crashes.
Only thing that fixes this is reinstalling vorpX. But this issue keeps returning, often even after just going into the config and back in. I’ve been trying to find out what causes this and how to workaround the last few days, approximately reinstalling it more than 30 times now.
Do you have any idea what is messing with vorpX or how to fix this?
I have the same problem but i cant get head tracking back on in game play at all, it works in UI but wont turn back on in gameplay even when i switch the controller option back. Anyone know a fix for this?

The most important thing to get you “into the game” is to get the FOV (field of view) right. Ideally you should have a FOV of ~120° in vorpX. This is highly important, in many ways even more important than Stereo 3D.
Games that allow you to do this and have Geometry 3D in vorpX are indistinguishable from native Rift apps in terms of the visual experience.
You have various options to do that depending on the game. From best to worst:
1. Ideally a game allows you to set the FOV to 120° in its options menu, which is true for a few games, but not that many
2. For various other games you can use the Game Optimizer in the vorpX config app, which can add the necessary tweaks automatically. More will be added here soon.
3. For many other games you can manually edit an .ini file or use a console command. Googling for “FOV + gamename” brings up tutorials for many (maybe even most) games.
4. If a game has no option to set the FOV in the engine itself, but has Geometry 3D support in vorpX, you can use the “3D FOV Enhancement” in the vorpX menu.
For games that don’t allow any of the above options, you can compensate for the lack of FOV with some post process helper functions vorpX has to offer, but these come at a price (for example black bars)
5. If absolutely no option is available to really increase the FOV in a game you can use one of the letterbox aspect ratio modes or the ImageZoom function.
6. Alternatively there is a post process 2D FOV Enhancement in the vorpX menu that works on everything. This causes image distortion though, so this should be the last resort.
With all these options available, almost any game can be made reasonably well playable. With the first four options you can usually get a perfect result in regard to the FOV.
Recently started playing ESO using Virtual Desktop instead. I set Virtual Desktop’s virtual display at ~93% with curved off, and I set the in game FOV to 120. This gives you a non-stereoscopic window into the world that floats in front of your view. Head tracking obviously doesn’t change your view of the world, but if you keep your head centered the perspective for everything is pretty close to correct (using the Distant option in VD does help with keeping your head centered, but also prevents you from leaning in to get a clearer view of text).
Definitely not as immersive as Skyrim with VorpX, but still way more immersive since it is like having really large display just the right distance away from you for the FOV set.
Interesting development…
Ok so, context first: I forgot to mention in my first post, the mouse worked fine the first time I started Planetside 2 in Vorpx, but upon closing and starting again later, it ceased to function properly, no settings changed that I was aware of, but it had been a day since I first played it.
Now fast forward to today, when I just remembered that Planetside 2 has a 64 bit and 32 bit client… I had forgotten because well, the 64bit use to be disabled, now it just auto chooses one based on your OS. It’s a bit of a pain to get PS2 to start using the other client, but it can be done, so I went and tried the 32 bit client.
Lo and behold, the mouse worked! I thought I had it fixed, and then I remembered that this is what it did last time… So, for the sake of a controlled experiment, I shut the game off and then started it again immediately, changing no settings anywhere. Mouse doesn’t work.
Somewhere, somehow, something is making Vorpx and Planetside 2 hate each other after the first run, and I am lost, just so damn lost… I have no idea what the hell would do this… Even tried doing a clean reinstall of the game, no dice.
Hi there. I’ve tried to get Crysis working but to no avail.
It sort of worked initially but head tracking was disabled. Enabled head tracking and the game kind of broke itself. Couldn’t get it to work properly. VorpX overlay, but no 3D, even with 3D enabled in the control panel. Also the VorpX cursor enlarged and pixelated over 80% of the screen.
Also the built in VorpX gamepad handling won’t turn off again… I really hate this feature and don’t really understand why it needs to be there. Yes, you can use some VR hotkeys but I don’t want that, I want the game to handle the gamepad natively.
The Geometry 3D performance hit is about the same as with all stereo drivers (usually 50%-60%, in some cases even more). Some things a S3D driver has to do are hurting peformance a lot , especially in DX9 games. There is no real way away around that, except something like asynchronous timewarp. Whether that will be possible in vorpX isn’t clear yet though.
Skyrim is mostly CPU-bound in Geometry 3D, a faster card won’t help much. In Fallout you should be able to get 75fps in interiors and ~60fps outside with a GTX 970.
That is why vorpX has the Z-Buffer 3D mode, which is about twice as fast as Geometry 3D, although not as natural in regard to Stereo 3D, of course.
I’m interested in this also. I’m getting awful performance in geometry mode even for several years old games with a 7970. This is actually my biggest problem with Vorpx, since even though I’ve been able to properly configure many games, most of them are unplayable.
Be very careful with nVidia driver support though… :p
There was “Elsa Eraser 3D Shutter” 10 bucks glasses 10 years ago which nvidia supported. Then they took that out and offer us practically the same stuff (just advertised differently) as “nVidia 3D Vision” – for 120€ or so.
It doesn’t work very nicely either – shitton of ghosting and it only supports directX games as well.
Plus – you “need” a video card which goes along well with it (usually their latest cards… even though older cards are powerful enough for it, too).
Other than that: It’d indeed be great for -free-, legit drivers to properly support it :)
What I dislike about VorpX the most is:
This is a 3rd party beta software for 50€ (!) which is basically an injection hack which can potentially get you banned in multiplayer. The game compatibility works for a while and then tends to break until the next Update. The next “update” seems to take a painstakingly long time to be finished – in which time the new compatibilities already broke again.
Worst of all, though I’m only 70% sure about this, is… we paid for the current version only… when there’s a big version update we’ll have to buy the software again (I heard) — if that’s true, that’s really. Really really shit.
Companies like Autodesk and Adobe do such ‘maintenance’ subscriptions.. but VorpX is a programme developed by one single person, very slowly, with little support, lots of fiddling on our part – while Autodesk and Adobe are huge companies with regular stable updates, a huge community, a huge amount of documentation, a huge amount of people working on bugfixes and features around the clock…
How does VorpX compare itself to this? It doesn’t.
So I very much hope what I heard is NOT true :p
Hey Mike, I still have not managed to get one game working. I am sure the problem is with these 3rd party drivers. I downloaded Digital Combat Simulator which has native DK2 support, and even though the menu looks incredibly messed up like the games in VorpX do, once I enter the game it works perfectly.
Bento, I agree. The only responses I seem to get is to check the FOV and bring up the in-game options which I can’t, because the game is so screwed up I can’t even see the in-game menu of VorpX. I am constantly referred to the in game documentation that is simplistic at best.
Not to worry though guys, Nvidia has just announced native VR support with its new GTX900 series, so I am done with this 3rd party crap. Going to wait for Nvidia drivers and just buy a 900series card and be done with it. It is called VR Direct- part of 3D vision native support, that will not activate any anti-cheat system online and also support thousand upon thousands of games, even ones that aren’t meant for VR!!!! So happy…
