    you mean this one?

Hehe.. in my case the solution is:
Turning the rift on … I only get that error when my rift is either not plugged in or not turned on.

“Can you verify your device is plugged in and turned on”?
If it is, and yet it doesn’t work, it means it has some issues to even find the rift. Perhaps the tracking is, in that case, used by another application or the device isn’t properly installed…?

Do the demos work for you right now?

My problem is I can’t get the mouse to interact with the game when using Vorpx, in windowed mode or not… No problems launching the game and getting vorpx to hook, mouse just refuses to interact with it after the fact… Can’t even hit the button to select my soldier and enter the game, or open the options menu.

Ok guys, I just got it working to fit the screen. The problem now is it still does not fit totally (I cant see the borders) and the resolution is horrible. I can even see text…because the way I got it working was changing my Rift to 948 X1080 and making it main monitor. Then I changed the in-game to 948X1080 and it fit my screen. The thing is, the resolution is horrible…

The demos for DK2 don’t work if I keep it at this setting and only work when I set it back to 1920 X1080….so since I have worked this out, can anyone help me to get it working at 1920X1080 so the games graphics are better and it fits the DK2? It is horrible looking, bad.

Trying to get this game to work with VORPX. The main screen loads, and you can select options, but actually playing the game itself = black screen. I’ve tried lowering all settings to the bare minimum, but even on the monitor the game wont render in vorpx. Anyone have any initial suggestions?

    Hi SvenH,

I found this write up on a French site on how to get vorpx working with opentrack for full positional tracking.

As well it details how to modify the F1 2012 camera files to get a view that is not so close to the wheel when on cockpit view, he even includes a few samples in a link.

You can use Google Translate to translate the web page. Highly recommended.

Thank you both for the explanations. Does VorpX work just as well in Bioshock 2? If so, that’s excellent, because I stopped playing that game just to wait to play it using VorpX on the DK2. I’d like to get Stanley Parable to work first as a test, because it’s very straight forward atmosphere and gameplay makes it easy to detect distortion. I might move on if I can’t figure this out thought.

It is worth noting that I just set the FOV to the second highest value, confirmed the resolution was set to 1080p, and reset the VorpX settings in game. I’ll also note that repeatedly, when I hit delete to bring up and remove the in game menu, it will often not come back up unless I restart the game. Is that just Stanley Parable or is it a common bug? I also checked the game configuration settings in the VorpX configuration page, and I saw a list of games, but Stanley Parable was not one of them. What does that mean? Given that the settings should be default anyway, I’m hoping that would not cause a problem. As I mentioned, the aspect ratio is 1:1, confirmed. The other settings simply make it WORSE, but in a similar manner of distortion. The thing is that even when I find the best FOV setting in the Stanley Parable FOV options, I still find that the vertical distortion when I look up and down is distinctly very very wrong. At this point, I’ll move on to another game, but Stanley Parable is a perfect game for VR experience, so it would be good if we could figure this one out eventually.

Ok so after trying it, the game looks great to me once you set up the fov to maximum. However it has the ugly habit of resetting the FOV constantly, so even though you may have changed it at the beginning, it goes back to minimum when you’re in-game. Remember to hit the middle button to go back to the game. Other than that, the game looks perfect as is, I tweaked a bit the 3d effect but not that much.

Also any kind of AA kills the performance.

The big problem for me is that if you keep walking forward, when you’re about to cross a door that gets you in a room with another two doors, the game freezes. I’ve tried twice, same result.

yesterday i got it running so far with vorpx
but it wasn’t really 3d so i ignored it and tried to set up the fov to 90 – 110
    So far so good..
than i tried to get independent headtracking with opentrack for dk2
it works really fine, but the fov is way to close to the weapon…
even when i set the fov to 180 and i dont know how to change that…
    can someone help?

ah btw when i disable opentrack the fov changing works just fine

So it seams to be better, but still very close up. The weapons are still out of picture right now. Did I do something wrong?
Also: Is there a way to get rid of that awfull black contrast problems? The fix black smear option doesn’t do anything, and it’s not really enjoyable with so many dark areas. I do have that problem with shadows in almost all games, even HL2 native…

Thank you both for the in depth answers, that certainly helped me a bunch! :) My goal is to be able to play VorpX injected games in geometry mode as it is mind blowingly awesome! I think Z-Buffer 3d looks good too, but once you see geometry mode pop, it’s hard to settle for less if you can afford the hardware upgrade costs.

That being said. Ralph, one of the things I found in Z-Buffer 3D mode is that the depth could not be set higher than 2.0 and it wasn’t high enough for me, personally. I was wondering if it will allow a higher setting in future updates? Also perhaps some convergence settings? (Unless the IPD is the same thing) I come from the world of Nvidia 3D tv play and I am one to always fine tune the depth and convergence of my 3d. That might help me more with the Z-Buffer enjoyment. If it’s even possible to do with the way Z-Buffer works. :)

Anyway, I am either going to get a 780 Ti when the price drops or perhaps one of the new series Nvidia cards depending on the Price. Much love to VorpX, keep on amazing. . . :)

    tnx for the quick reply.

mouse middle-click was the saver and I could access the menu and join a dayz epoch game. I moved a little in my base, didn t even try to get outside, epoch world is a dangerous place:P
well, the road is long ahead. yes, it works. as for the first impressions…
quite a delay in head movements but not stutter. I ve tried different quality settings on 1980×1080, aswell as vorpx HT sensibility without big improvements.
the stereoscopic effect is more visible as a cutboard effect, not a real 3D. here, arma2 graphics are the cause I think. But what was immediately noticeable, was a disturbing white edge to the objects, where stereo separation was stronger.
Head movements/tracking should definitely work as a free look override toggle and get separated from the mouse tracking
as said, these are only couple of first impressions of a fresk dk2 owner, have to try many other games to get a more serious impression.
    many thanks.

    Found a workaround for it.

Alt-tab does get the extra mouse cursors off the screen. Sometimes it takes a few tries, but it does work eventually. Just make sure you have a folder open to alt-tab to as just using alt-tab to exit to the desktop doesn’t work. You’ve got to go to an open folder or other window and then back to the game. I recommend a folder because it’s won’t tie up your resources with an active process and drag the game performance down.

That doesn’t solve the minimizing issue though.

I’ve figured out what is happening with that though. The problem is that the Windows mouse cursor doesn’t interfere with the game as long as it’s on the same screen that Skyrim is being displayed on, but it’s not restricted to the game screen for some reason. It’s moving over to the extended desktop screen and that’s when it minimizes the game screen. As long as it stays on the Rift screen with the game it’s fine.

The workaround is simple, just set the Rift up so it’s the only display. Keep the Oculus Config in extended mode, then use the Windows Display screen and simply set it so that the Rift’s screen is the only active display. This has completely solved the minimizing issue I’ve been having.

You might want to remove the lenses for a moment so you can move some of the icons to the center of the screen to make launching the game easier, but once you get everything set up it’s not so bad.

I’ve got the most common icons I use for VR and a folder full of shortcut for VR games and programs in the center of the screen when my Rift is the only display. It’s a little awkward, but not too bad as long as you remember you can drag open folders and windows about by holding down left click on the top portion of them to get a better look at them without head tracking. It also helps to close one eye so you can see what you’re doing a little better.

It’s well worth the effort it takes to get Skyrim working right, but I’m still hoping this will be fixed in future updates.

    Hi,

I noticed while trying out Dead Island that VorpX said the game was only partially supported, and it also completely forces the 3D options to stay disabled. Are there game breaking bugs with the 3D enabled? (I’d still like the option to play around with, even if it doesn’t work perfectly).

Additionally, Dead Island Riptide seems to work fine (or at least, I can get 3D when starting the game, didn’t play into it much). I thought Dead Island + Riptide are the same engine, so it seems strange to exclude the original one from 3D support.

    Thanks.

yeah Skyrim is working great! I have about 60 mods now installed and it even looks beatiful. My GTX 680 and 8 core AMD CPU handling Skyrim very well on High settings through DK2. I try not to move the head too much as there is still some jittering going on even though not too much. Smooth like a baby’s butt experience in dungeons and world maps, but if I get into city turning head or looking up or down is a bit jittery.

I don’t have to run DK2 as primary display. I usually change resolution of my monitor to 1024×1028, and set it to 75Hz and everything is golden. IPD was the only problem in my case. That’s why things looked doubled. Thanks for VorpX. Without it I’d be still poking around short Demos, some are nice but playing a full game like Skyrim is a whole lot better experience. I almost pooped my pants last night while I was going to the dungeon for quest and all of a sudden this black wolf jumps me from behind the tree. What the heck! LOL.

If any improvements possible I wish VorpX to have “profiles” that can be used in specific games. Like pressing DEL there are bunch of settings to play with while setting VorpX for your best experience. So separate profiles that you can assign to specific game would be great after you play with settings through DEL inside the game and find optimal ones for your eyes and that game, so that VorpX could remember them, or some pre-coded profiles that would change to several optimal settings templates to try etc.

My main gripe probably is that headtracking gives a bit weird impression, thats probably because Skyrim doesn’t really have OR support and VorpX doing its best. I tried to play with image zoom, and different FOV until found the configuration that I could live with.

Anyways, keep up the good work Ralp! You have a birght future ahead of you if you can make VorpX support as many best games as possible, especially these AAA titles like Skyrim. IMHO OR will be very popular in gaming community and being able to play old games with OR on would be an awesome change of experience.

Pretty much regardless of what I tried BF4 doesn’t work. Tried literally everything suggested here and not a thing will get BF4 to work.

    R9 290x
    Z87 Pro
    4770K
    8GB 2400 RAM
    Windows 8.1 Pro
    VorpX 0.7.1
    Catalyst 14.7 Beta RC3

    Rift DK2:
    SDK 0.4.2 (runtime 0.4.2)
    Firmware 2.12

    I’ve tried:
    – VorpX shortcuts
    – Direct Mode
    – Extended main monitor with “use system settings” and “Only Rift DK2”
    – Extended not as main monitor with both of the above
    – D3D mode for sure
    – Disabled Origin In Game
    – Shut any suspicious background programs that could be causing issues I could think of (with overlays)
    – Tried 32/64 bit
    – 64 bit wouldn’t work via VorpX shortcuts and launched via origin gives exact same result as 32 bit
    – Turned on Offline mode in Origin

Really beginning to think this isn’t my fault that it isn’t working.

So strange since at least 3-4 other games work fine, one or two of which are DX11. I mean GRID 2 worked… It worked horribly because of what it is but it worked and BF4 doesn’t, even when it’s on the “supported” list.
