TheBaltParticipantIm not an employee for Vorpx but let me try to answer your questions, to my understanding of the program.
It will not transfer the input of the touch controller as a mouse pointer in 3d space as if you were ‘aiming’ with your hand – all the ‘aiming’ is done with your head, in first person and third person games. You will, for most games, pretty much just be getting the core game as it would launch on your desktop, just in some form of 3d
Theres ‘3 types’ of 3d the program does for games it ‘works with’;
Geometry 3d, the most convincing and hardware taxing option that is supported… I can barely run most games in Geo 3d with my card so im not the person to ask about it, I can say, when it works right, Geo 3d is pretty much as ‘native’ as a VR game. I played Resident Evil 7 with Geometry 3d and was able to get full 6dof (6 degrees of freedom; able to lean forward, duck head, look around corner with head like a real VR game, without using analog stick. Analog still could still be used for looking up and down, but when the game is supported this well, you basically just need the stick to ‘look’ left and right, as you would in any standard game)
More widely supported by games on the unofficial list as often dont do Geo3d, they tend to more likely support only Z-Adaptive and Z-normal 3d 3d, which; to my understanding, are just ‘tricks’ on the eye to simulate 3d but not having to render the scene twice as Geometry 3d does.
So the game will control of the same, use your controller if you want; you can get it to work with the touch as a “gamepad”, but its not necessary, but if you want to ‘aim’ around with your Touch controller, it unfortunately doesnt do that (could be interesting, but that would require an entire base level code rewrite i think, to make the gun indepedent of the camera in these old games… there are a few full conversion mods like Doom 3 BFG and I think theres one for Half Life 1 and like Doom 1, 2, Hexen that are full conversion with moving the controller to ‘aim’ like in a normal VR game – Vorpx does not do this, it displays your game in 3d and controls are same as they were.
Now as far as other ‘supported programs’ – Nothing really ‘supported’ i can think of, but it doesnt conflict with things like Mods or ReShade, those things all still work, I played Sekiro and Dark Souls 3 with First Person Cheatengine mods and got to have a legit Dark Souls in 1st person dungeon crawling experience in full VR, was very cool. Currently doing a playthru of Resident Evil 2 with the First Person mod (this one the head bobs a little bit, you wanna turn it off in options but it still does it… but i the mod menu in game, you like can expand FoV so the bobbing is very very tiny)
So – yeah, any mods you wanna use, whatever goes along those lines, you will have no trouble with Vorpx. The only issue you might see is Vorpx might try to ‘hook’ these programs and ‘launch’ them in VR (this will just bring up an error message on your pc saying Vorpx couldnt ‘attach’ to the program’, with the option to “add to exclude list” and Vorpx wont try to ‘attach’ to that program again in the future, at most youll have to ALT+Control+DEL and shut down that program, add it to ‘exclude’ list in error message and youre good to go)
So things to expect – Vorpx is NOT rendering a 360 degree room around you, like i think a real VR game does, it is at the end of the day just taking whats on the monitor and running it thru some magical technology that makes it have a cool 3d VR effect haha – but expect more limited ‘field of views’ than a full VR game, get used to having a little extra black at the top and bottom of your field of view, thats the only real “DOWNSIDE” I can see to the program if youre looking for a true VR experience, just limited Field of Views in some cases and in some cases rectified even more via modding, like Red Dead Redemption 2’s mod over in the Game Hints and Settings forum
But for first person games, you set them to “Full VR Mode”; theres also “Cinema” and “immersive screen mode”, but, i think “full vr mode” is why youre 90% likely interested in the product (Not to denounce cinema and immersive screen mode, they are fantastic for 3rd person games)
But “Full VR mode” basically ties your head to your ‘mouse look’ button (some games you will see Vorpx flipping back and forth between button prompts from PC to controller settings), Vorpx turns your ‘head’ into the camera you would regularly control on the right stick and if the game supports full Geo 3d – you should get pretty close to a regular VR experience, with whatever mods/filters you wanna add to it all working. It is not miracle software though, like if your have a CV1 like I do – alot of black levels in these games were not built for VR at all and I get alot of washed out colors when in dark areas, not Vorpx’s fault, just how they did CV1 screen… so dont be surprised if you run into that).
So once youre in game, you can mess with Vorpx settings; there will be menus in the headset once youre ‘in game’ you can access by clicking in left control stick on Xbox controller or on your Keyboard under “Del”; I believe. This button is your new friend. There is an option to change it, in the same menu, by going to the tab with Xbox Controller options and setting it from “Press Sticks” to “Press Start/Back” buttons, i always switch to this. But the menu youre at now is Vorpx’s in game menu (via left stick click or DEL button on keyboard) and you can play with how zoomed in the image is by Vorpx, how sharp/bright it is, what “3d mode” you want (Geometry, Zadapter, Znormal like i mentioned earlier). If the game supports DirectVR, use that option and it should scan your field of view and motion so you can have full 3d, but, it depends game to game. This menu can be fiddled with alot and will allow you to access “Full VR Mode” (Best attempt to make it into a VR experience for first person games), “Immersive Screen Mode” and “cinema mode” as well.
So “Full VR Mode” Is probably what youre after in most cases, wanting to play an FPS or large scale rpg and have “depth” and 3d to the environment is usually Vorpx running ideally. Use DirectVR scan if its an option and see how much it supports 3d, whether its got Geometry 3d, Zadaptive/Znormal 3d. The game may support an adjustment of the HUD to bring things into view easily, like health bars. Not all games support this, youll have to just check in the Vorpx menu (Left stick click or DEL button again) and see if you can scale the HUD.
If you cant scale the HUD, thats where right stick click comes in. This will also be your friend. Right stick click will drag the game back to a ‘theater’ view and allow you to check all things like health bars, menu settings, etc, without the ‘warping’ of the graphics that youre getting in Full VR Mode in 3d. This will be a commonly used button, its best to watch in game cutscenes this way as well. This option can also be change in the Vorpx Menu (DEL or Left stick click) to go to menu/back buttons by going to the Xbox tab and change “Vorpx buttons” from “Stick click” to “Menu/Back” buttons. If you TAP ‘back button’ now, itll bring up Vorpx Menu, if you hold it in, youll get the game option for the “back button” is.
So last thing, 3rd person games. Totally work and are really cool. Was playing Darksiders 3 recently and it was rad, looking down at Fury like shes thru a window, not thru a TV screen and just thrashing baddies up in 3rd person, if Vorpx supports the game well and you get your settings right, “Immersive Screen Mode” and “cinema mode” are primarily how youll be playing those games, and they have full depth and everything. Also a little trick if youre trying to play a first person game that has too much ‘camera bob’ and you cant turn it off or ‘mod it off’, dont play in full VR, play in Immersive Screen, set it to be close with Vorpx in game menu (DEL button again) and it will not wrap around you and lower the chance of naseau if a first person games camera was bugging you.
But yes, the program pretty much ‘supports’ whatever mod you wanna throw at your game, its doing nothing beyond taking the image and putting it into your headset and making it have depth/3d… your games are yours, mod em how you want, have cheatengine running, whatever works for you, if the game has a profile on Vorpx is the only real issue youll run into.
But ya, you could mod the hell out of New Vegas then play in Vorpx :P lol

RalfKeymasterDo not download a cloud profile, that overwrites the updated profile that was just installed when you updated vorpX. There is no need to use a cloud profile, the vorpX update comes with a new one that works.
Afterburner and similar programs should always be disabled since they hook into games in the same way as vorpX. That’s never good, even if you think it doesn’t cause any issues.
Also get rid of BitDefender, one of the worst known offenders in regard to AV programs that cause hooking issues with vorpX. It has a feature, ironically named “Advanced Threat Protection” or something similar, that rather unadvanced flatout blocks Windows functions that vorpX uses to hook into games. Even if you “disable” BitDefender this feature will still be enabled. You have to disable it separetely.
If you are on Windows 10, just uninstall it. Windows Defender will kick in instead, no real need to use any invasive third party AV on Windows 10.

GhanthParticipantThank you Ralf for adressing this so quikly !
Unfortunately, and i hate to have to say this, for some strange reasons that needs to be unfold, vorpX can’t hook to the game even with the 20.1.1.2 update.
Let me discribe: on desktop view, i can see the hook message pops in and out and the game’s image is flashing as if two different resolutions were fighting for one display. Also, i can hear the sounds in the hmd’s speakers but no image display in hmd. I also get the “this take a while” message from vorpX.
What can i do ?
Feb 14, 2020 at 12:03am #192451In reply to: vorpX 20.1.1.2 Available Now
RalfKeymaster20/02/13
vorpX 20.1.1.1 has been released. This is just a band aid for an issue introduced by today’s Steam release, which could get stuck in an infinite update loop when launching any game with vorpX running. Apparently Steam now dislikes the recently introduced more rigorous overlay blocking.
No other changes.
The hotfix disables the rigorous overlay blocking, basically going back to how things were before vorpX 20.1.0. Unfortunately doing so doesn’t come without side effects, most prominently it prevents vorpX from hooking the Steam version of Red Dead Redemption II again for now, which was the main reason for the new blocking method in the first place.
A new solution for the Red Dead Redemption II overlay conflict that works with the latest Steam version will be looked into. At this point I can’t promise anything though. For the time being your best option is to get Red Dead Redemption II directly from Rockstar.

InicusParticipantUsed the default Rage profile to get geometry 3D working in ETQW. Looks pretty cool, but two issues I’m looking for info on how to fix up:
1 (Minor, low priority) some shadows seem to render differently for each eye.
2 (Major, high priority) the HUD seems to render with zero transparency, appearing as a big black box in the middle of the screen with a white crosshair in the middle. I can scale the HUD using the VorpX menu to shrink it a little, but even at the smallest possible setting, it is blocking a large portion of the centre of the view.
Is there some way to extend the min-max settings for HUD scaling so that I can scale it into nothingness? Or is there a way to adjust the opacity of the HUD or some other way to turn it off entirely?
Thanks.

TheBaltParticipantI just had the same issue with final fantasy 15 on gamepass and couldnt get it to hook.
i think its cause vorpx needs to have’access’ to files in the windowsapp folder and even with admin priviges, you cant access that stuff. Like try adding a xbox console companion game to steam, it wont work.
i think we got lucky and a few managed to work, but ya, im not sure what the fix is here
Feb 11, 2020 at 9:14pm #192418In reply to: Is Vorp X worth it?
TheBaltParticipantOkay – so what you are getting – if you want to make old games looking legitimately 3d and like stuff is in your hands (like a weapon model looks like its right there in legit 3d) or want to see stuff on the horizon look like its on the horizon – it does that. In some first person games theyve even got full tracking for your head, but you will be playing the games as normally intended, with a regular controller
There is a quick key that is adopted in profiles to right stick click to “zoom” out the image for when a cutscene or something takes place, basically putting it on a movie screen, then you can tap the zoom button again and be back in full VR, world encompassing you in first person games or like looking thru a window in a 3rd person game, you can actually see the depth of things in the distance.
Pesonally, ive been playing VR since DK2 and Vorpx has gotten 99% of my actual “VR’ time, most VR games at this point are simple and redundant (few examples that fix this are like walking dead, asuras wrath), but those have been slow coming. If you want a full 3d VR experience in a game that is supported, it does that.
It supports alot more than what is ‘officially’ supported, but youll just have to see if profiles for those games exist, a good reference page is a user named RJKole’s site, but it has been down. I am attaching an image of the page when it wasnt down so you can see what games are considered to be ‘supported’ by the community with the program; meaning depth and all those sorts of things work
https://www.vorpx.com/forums/topic/celebrating-700-games-on-inofficial-list/page/2/#post-192357
For the most part games coming these days are supported by it to some degree because the engines being used are limited and not necessarily in house developed stuff as much as it used to be – so i would only expect that list of ‘unsupported officially’ titles to continue expanding.
Its the best 40 bucks i spent on VR, far and away
Feb 11, 2020 at 8:16pm #192416In reply to: Is there a way to test VorpX?
jjenssonParticipantI don’t think there is any way to test it beforehand, sadly. I wish Ralf would release a test version with limited functionality – it would boost the popularity of this brilliant tool.
The fact that it is the best at what it does (turning a huge list of PC games into semiVR) and the completely new and much better way to play them – it should be a no-brainer to pay even double or triple the current price without second thought.
AFAIK, the program is tied to your hardware/installation, so you can’t just give it to someone else. IMO this is the most negative thing about VorpX – as soon as you have a new install/system, you need to register online again and get a new key. That means that if VorpX is discontiued (like with TriDef) you lose it as soon as you change to a new computer, or even reinstall Windows. :-(

TheBaltParticipantHey everyone,
I just wanted to make a post regarding this to any Nvidia users. Personally – Im on a very weak card compared to standards nowadays, a GTX 780 TI. I still manage to get games to run well enough on lower settings but I really decided to experiment with Low Latency Mode and VR Prerendered frames in the Nvidia Control Panel and my performance has shot up exponentially.. maybe there might be some input lag, but I was playing The Sinking City at like 720p and barely pulling off 45 frames minimum for timewarp; I went in and put low latency mode to “on” and VR Prerendered frames to “2” and now the game is running totally smooth at 1080p pulling 45 FPS for timewarp with basically no framerate drops.
Now i dont know how much this will help other users, I just wanted to point it out, considering how weak my card is I imagine alot of you dont have a need for this, but, if you wanted to squeeze out some extra performance from your pc, this might be an avenue you could take. I mean it literally took Sinking City from 720p with low/medium settings to 1080p with High/Medium settings and it wasnt even running smooth at 720p, now its basically flawless at 1080p with increased settings..
So just wanted to point it out to anyone who wanted to give it a try.
You access Nvidia control panel from your desktop with a Right Click. Click Nvidia Control Panel. Once its open go to “Manage 3d Settings” and then click the tab for “Program Settings”… youll have to add the .exe of the game, but if youve recently played it, hit the “add” button and it should list your recent games youve launched, or just select the browse button and find the .exe in your PC.
Once youve done that, go to Low Latency Mode and VR Prerendered frames and fiddle with them a bit. Low Latency is off by default, I just switched it to “on” for now, there is an ultra setting but I was happy enough with my performance increase to not fiddle with it anymore. Then towards the bottom is VR Prenndered frames and I set that to “2”. At the bottom will be the “apply” button, select that before closing the window.
I actually didnt just see a performance increase with Sinking City, I did it in the Surge as well and same thing, went from a lower resolution with low/medium settings to 1080p with medium/high settings and more antialiasing to smoothen the picture.
Just wanted to point this out to any ‘low power’ users like myself.. not gonna lie, its like having a whole different graphics card. And i was playing the Surge with it and the ‘input’ or ‘latency’ lag they warn about was indecipherable to me. Might make a difference in a fighting game or something but it worked plenty smooth for the surges relatively quick combat.
Well, just wanted to point that out in case anyone wanted to give it a shot – you can easily revert these settings by just going back into the Nvidia control panel and setting it all back to default if it doesnt work for you.
Good luck, hope it helps somewhat for anyone trying to get smoother framerate and increase your settings on top of it

rich0550ParticipantThis has helped allot making some good headway
A couple things working on figuring out.
1) The actual screen is still pretty small even with .65 or zoom maxed. allot of grey borders.
2) working on getting the head to fully turn when turn 90 degree, turned head tracking sensitivity to 1.0
Geometry mode and Full VR mode set?

RalfKeymasterI’m not really sure whether you understood yet that there is no way to get the image looking right FOV wise in this game without ImageZoom unless you find a way to circumvent its recently introduced FOV cap. So that’s what you have to understand first.
Apart from that: your calculation is backwards. With a lower imageZoom value you need less pixels for 1:1 mapping, not more. The correlation between the setting and the resolution is linear: when you lower the setting by 20%, you need 20% less pixels in either direction.
Also for a pixel match calculation you would have to factor in the lens distortion correction that is applied by SteamVR. VR headsets aren’t monitors. Game pixels are never mapped directly to screen pixels, not even in native games, there always is a distortion algorithm applied before the image is displayed to counteract lens distortion.
Which pretty much brings us back to my original reply: unless you find a way to circumvent the game’s recently introduced FOV cap, you need ImageZoom for FullVR mode. Select a 16:9 resolution in this particular case that you consider looking good enough while still providing performance that you consider good enough. That’s the most useful advice I can give you.

TheBaltParticipantTo be clear – vorpx does go into config files and uses mouse movement for headtracking and may set it that way by ‘default’ in most games. The Vorpx in game menu (you will have access to it inside your headset, its usually defaulted to the DEL key, i believe) will be the way to make sure you disable headtracking and stuff and just be ready to have to go into that and change those settings.. come back here if you have any questions. The Vorpx Menu in game will let you ‘change the profile’s settings’; if you make changes and decide you dont like them and want to revert to the original profile, you can use the vorpx program (this will be on your PC screen once youre up and running) and go to “Cloud Profiles” – type in the game you want and find the Bioshock (vorpx) version and select “import profile”, thatll get you back to the standard settings for any game’s profile in case you mess up settings and arent sure how to get them back to default.
really tho – if you have any questions, come back here. Its a fantastic product but it does come with its own nuances and the creator is always happy to help, youll see him post often on here, Ralf, but also some of us who use the program alot can try to help if you run into any issues.
Hope you enjoy, its a great program, even for 3rd person games. Currently playing Darksiders 3 in Vorpx and its like looking out a window, projectiles come at you for real, the characters truly appear ‘in the distance’…. the program gets alot of flak from some people but really – its just people who arent willing to take the time and ask questions. If you got any, bring em here and we will try to help.

andreiParticipantThank you for replying, Ralf.
Just to make sure I get it right I bought the game from GOG and it came patched to the latest version (2.48 – july 2019). No altered settings, just installed and played. Same behavior.Although I’d have wanted to just scan and play, it’s not eventually a problem that I manually set the resolution, I’ll start off 1440*1600 (Quest’s reso per eye) and work it from there.
But those 2 things are important:
1. Head tracking – I’ve seen tutorials showing how head movement maps to short movement faking leaning (in some games). Is this dependent on DirectVR? Should I presume that games w/o DirectVR don’t benefit from 6 dof VR?
2. There’s still no stereoscopy.
I must be missing something, maybe someone who’s been through setting up VorpX with SS2 could jump in?

Topic: Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
Used the default Rage profile to get geometry 3D working in ETQW.
Thanks.
