Another relatively standard UI pattern would be to include tabs along the top; possibly initially just one tab with a “+” to add a new one (as browsers and many other applications do). I definitely agree that each mode seems to justify a different set of parameter values and being able to store “sets” of values that could be swapped quickly would be amazing. As a software engineer I understand features are not free and adding big name game support probably takes most of the precedence right now but “as a user I would personally love to be able to toggle my configurations so that different game modes and menus could have different vorpx settings”… see, free user story ;-).

Even an “advanced” feature that was partially baked and required manually cloning/renaming configuration files (“config”, “config_1”) would be super awesome. I have been somewhat assuming the configuration is stored in local files per game (.exe target) though I didn’t see where in a very cursory look.

Anyway, keep up the good work sir.
    Cheers,
    Zack

    Ok well thanks again RJK_

I’ll just have to leave it for now and carry on playing native VR stuff.

Since speaking last I tried STEAMVR Beta. This wouldn’t even display the game. Just left me in the STEAMVR lobby but the game was running because I could see the game windows open. So I treid uninstalling SteamVR completely and doing a fresh install of the none Beta which run the game in VR but with my usual problem.

Oh well I’ll keep trying from time to time but I have so much other VR related games to play with for the time being. Just gutted I can’t get this to run on loads of games that I already have that are supported by VorpX.

    @ RJK_

I have tested Enable/Disable Stereo 3D which is bound to ALT+X. Does nothing. Also SHIFT+Mousewheel does indeed enlarge the screen but also makes it a lot more pixelated due to it just zooming in.

I tested Hyperspace out as well and that is in 3d just not 360. Should it be?

    @ Ralf

I have done everything you said. Double checked everywhere that there was nothing left over before a fresh install of VorpX. Still exactly the same behaviour.

I’ve been through so many settings now, over and over that i’m close to giving up. I really don’t want to do another full OS install as it’s a pain to get everything back to the way I like it and I don’t want to waste another weekend fiddling rather than playing with my brand new system.
I know it’s got to be something on my side. I accept that but I just don’t get why it worked the very first time and then it’s done this ever since. Even though I can’t stress enough that nothing has change on my end…

    Hi RJK_

Yes I did a factory reset to start with before reinstalled VorpX. And MSI Afterburner is just a program (Which does hook also and this is why I disable it when running other software that does) that displays system information such as temps etc when gaming.

One thing I didn’t mention before was the fact that I uninstalled the Viveport software/drives which I thought might of been causing the issue due to a driver missing or something. But everything else VR related runs perfectly fine due to SteamVR. All the drivers for the Vive are still intact.

Also I have been on the latest Nvidia drivers as this system was built and freshly softwared over the xmas holidays. Like I mentioned before VorpX worked the first time I tried it as intended. Nothing changed since then in regards to anything else besides getting rid of Viveport as I’d said.

I’ve spent most of the evening again trying to resolve my issue with VorpX running as it should. I’ll keep searching and trying but appreciate the comments.

    So as the title say’s.

I am getting no 3D/360 effect at all. Just a small screen with the game running in my vive view and no matter which mode I try through VorpX ingame control panel, nothing will get it in to Stereoscopic 3d. I was as first just trying Alien isolation. Rather than switching from game to game to begin with to keep confusion/trouble shooting to a minimum. But I have also tried The Hunter: Call of the wild and this behaves exactly the same.

Things I have tried so far is to uninstall/reinstall VorpX, SteamVR and even the games themselves. Also tried Cloud profiles for the games in question.
I also like to use MSI Afterburner which I disabled straight away due to being known to cause issues in various games etc.

I’ve been through the settings so many times now and still can’t figure out what is causing this. The funny thing is that the first time I tried VorpX with Ai is worked as intended. Since then I hadn’t changed any settings within any of my software/programs but it just refuses to go in to 3d mode…

My system is well above the required VR specs needed. Hitting the required 90fps constantly for a fluid experience.

Am I missing something really simple? Thank you in advance for any information.

    EDIT: Happy new all ;)

Hi, first up I understand that SC isn’t supported so I understand if nobody has any answers for this issue – just thought I’d ask :)

I’m on SC 3.4.1 with Samsung Odyssey and have managed to get it working fairly well. However once you are in-game the head tracking works for a few seconds but then stops working correctly. When this happens, the tracking is a small percentage of your head movemvet (even if I set the HT sensitivity to 5.0) and it moves the view as well.

I have disabled the X and Y axis for mouselook in the game settings so this isn’t the issue.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Brad

I haven’t seen any recent changes in the desktop viewer so i can only assume the problem is on my side.

I’m currently stuck with the desktop viewer constantly closing and reopening in loop
    even after a fresh reboot.

I could not find anything useful in AppData\Local\Temp\vorpx.log

is there any other way to get information on what could be the problem ?

Theres been no hardware changes on the pc so i’m pretty sure its some software update thats messing with it, but with no way to find out which it could be short of killing every single services one at a time im a bit at a loss.

Neat thread. Hope everyone’s enjoying their Christmas. I’ve been busy with family activities, but get to show them some vr and vorpX tomorrow. It’s gonna blow their minds 😁.

Congrats on the seven years. Looking forward to more vorpX play in the coming seven.

    Hi Ralf,

I’ve got the Steam version with all DLC. I think it was an issue with the mods I was installing and possibly not uninstalling properly. Using Nexus got very complicated with profiles etc and things being left behind. Uninstalled and reinstalled, left the sky mods and weather mods out (I think it may have been the Nevada Skies mod causing the troubles) and all looks OK now.

Thanks though for the help and support.

The next thing I’m tweaking is trying to get iron sights so I don’t go cross-eyed! I’ve read up elsewhere on the forums and I am going to experiment with the 3D settings today trying to reduce it close up – any additional tips would be respectfully appreciated.

@ matteo39, I’m using 2560×1440, Oculus ASW off, VorpX ASW on (BTW Ralf, works perfect) 1.5 SS via Oculus TrayTool, giving me 60-90 FPS even with all the HD textures etc. in cinema mode, ambient background, wrapped round and pulled in all the way. LOVE IT!

I have a secret arrangement with them. This way you are forced to stockpile games without knowing which ones will be supported eventually.

Seriously: the plan was to get vorpX 19.1.0 ready before Christmas, but dealing with some recent SteamVR changes cost me quite a bit of time. Maybe, but really just maybe I feel confident enough to release it on Chrismas eve. Don’t count on it though, early January is more likely.

The next release will primarily be about a DX11 rewrite that allows G3D for more DX11/11.1 games that were Z3D only before, not too many new profiles. The most interesting AA/AAA games with major changes (either new or Z3D only before) currently on sale at Steam are probably: Prey, Batman: Arkham Knight, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Farming Simulator 2019, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Elex, The Surge.

First of, thank you both for you kind response. I m using the Samsung Oddyssey+.
I tried the descent 2 profile but no luck…now its not even giving me a ingame picture…the hmd is still in steamvr environment. Maybe I can try get it running with dgvoodoo. speaking of I read somewhere that vorpx supports dx1-9 with dgvoodoo. Is that not true?

    @matteo39

I also have AvP99 but havent tried it yet.

I will try that.. But i can´t get the res to high. Vorpx tells me that to prevent that weapons will flicker I should go with 1280*960 (can´t remember if those are the right numbers, but i think you know what i mean)
But I will try the full screen mode :)

I have played a bit further in Half Life 2 with the cinema mod. It runs pretty well, but there is a few bugs. And i don´t know if its the mod or simple HL2.
I get a lot of that zooming in and out at times. I read somewhere its vorpx that tries to prevent a crash. Is that the cinema mod who is screwing things up??

And do you have any idea when DirectVR support could come to HL source? :)

Also, I tested Bioshock 1 & 3 today.. It runs really nice!! Ralf, I don´t have that much time to play all these games with this awesome software :) :)
    Thank you for this!!!!

Looks like the DgVoodoo. dll is broken for the Wip version.
I only use Vorpx for some sim games ans GTR2 are my favorite.
Both GTL and GTR2 are now going into endless looping with X_config.exe resetting back to 600×800 16bit.

I know there are cloud profiles for GTR2 but not only did the DegVoodoo.dll make the games looks much better it also including G3D with perfect motec LCD it also ran with +90 fps something I can’t even get with a RTX 2070 /I7 7700k with the standard profile.

I know the support is unofficial but it worked great before and now it is NFG

    Hello Guys,
Ive been using vorpx for a couple weeks now. All of a sudden I get a messed now.

“Sorry. vorpX encountered a critical error and cnnot do its magic. :\

Try restarting the application. If the problem persists, reinstalling vorpX might help.

    Error code:2”

As cute as this message is I am not really sure why suddenly it wont work. I don’t believe I have even updated anything on my PC. I get this message by clicking start vorpx or trying to launch the vorpx desktop viewer. I sent a request in for a new download link. Still waiting on it. I even reinstalled my occulus rift software thinking maybe it had something to do with this.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks
    Kevin Lay
