Hello,
I’m new to Rift DK2 and how to drive it
so far I did not encounter any Vorpx problem with these games:
Mirror’s Edge
Call Of Prypiat
Dishonored
Arma series
Metro Redux
Outlast
Thief2014
while (settings to default and monitor to Dk2):
– Mass Effect 3 won’t activate the DK2
– Portal 2 crashes to desktop as soon as it reaches the main interface, – although activating the DK2
– Skyrim won’t activate the Dk2 and crashes to desktop
I’ve tried to follow the troubleshooting section suggestions, with no results
any hints?
thanks
I take it you are using Geometry 3D? if so do this to fix the anomalies
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\EA Games\Mirror’s Edge\TdGame\Config\TdEngine.ini
Under system settings
DynamicShadows=False
TdSunHaze=False
LensFlares=False
do not change in-game graphics settings after doing these changes.
I don’t think that im running any profile that should affect performance, catalyst drivers run pretty much stock values and I’ve tried shutting down any unnesessacy applications, also if there was such a profile it should also affect performance when running without vorpx. But “normal” or vireio runs much better than vorpx. Mirror’s edge is barely playble when setting everything on low, but still drops under 75 when in open spaces. That is on 290x and 2600k @ 4,3ghz.
Today i bought VorpX. Everything works perfectly (outlast and others) but if i play with Mirror’s edge the screen on the rift is rotated and i can’t get it rotated back and also the sensor works mirrored so like if i tilt the rift (dk2) left the screen turns right. What should i do?
Thanks for you time reading my help.
Any help apriciated.
Hi, just purchased VorpX and messing about with Mirror’s Edge. Finally got it to display on the DK2, however, I’m trying to expand the FOV using Optimize Game Settings. After typing in a number and applying the setting, it does not save it. I can click on another option and go back to the game optimizer, but it will change back to 120 again. Is there something I’m doing wrong? And what would be the best setting for ME as the default one is extremely claustophobic! Many thanks in advance for any help or advice.
Yup, FOV fixed it. Thought I’d already applied the patch but it appeared I hadn’t. Mirror’s Edge doesn’t work /too/ badly with VorpX.
Shame I doubt we’ll ever see positional tracking, unless you can tack something bodgy over the top that makes the experience a little less nauseating. I was really, really surprised when I found out that I had no issue with the speed or looking down buildings in Mirror’s Edge, it was purely the fact I couldn’t actually move my head in virtual space – I guess the initial wow of the VR effect has worn off now and my body is no longer tricked by it.
Hi there. Just got VorpX, couldn’t believe I forked out the money I did, but I wanted to try what seems to be the best driver solution. I would definitely recommend you put up a 7 day trial or something to show people it is decent Ralf, it’s a lot of money – turns out it seems to be pretty good, with lots of options and it’s well integrated. For an early DK2 beta I’m pretty impressed.
However, Mirror’s Edge is one hell of a whore to configure. Does anyone have some recommendations for settings to use? I’m having the whole “zoomed in” feeling to make the game fill my peripherals, I really need to massively increase the in game FOV so the zoom isn’t so bad – more vertically than anything. I feel that I need the resolution to be something like 4:3 to work well, but of course the Rift is a 16:9 display ratio so the game is picky about allowing anything else.
Any help is welcome as a first time VorpX user :)
When using Vorpx for Mirror’s Edge I see stuttering when I move my head. I have turned down all the settings for video in the ME menu, but that doesn’t help. It is worse in 3D geometry mode, but also there in Z-adaptive and Z-normal mode. I have a i4670K and R9 290, other games work fine. Any help?
Thank you for everything Ralf. I am loving playing with my DK2 with vorpx. I went through the entirety of Bioshock Infinite with vorpx on my DK1 and it was my best vr experience and I am reinstalling it for uses on the DK2 now.
I spent some time playing bioshock infinite myself…I ended up disabling the dynamic shadows because apparently the game produced different shadows on the left than the right eye making some people and objects look a little wierd. There are still static shadows in the game so it wasn’t too bad.
I thought BIOSHINF was the shit until I tried Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, there are underwater sequences where you take over a sub and then turbulence aboard an airplane…you really need to give it a go. I actually liked it better than BIOSHINF. However it does have some minor display issues like for some reason while looking around you might see a ghost halo effect on the left or right of some objects…the same happens in Mirror’s Edge but the 3D effects are so good they are easily ignorable. Ralf, if you are reading this…will you be customizing COD MW3 and Mirrors Edge at some point so that they will be as good as Bioshock Infinite without those ghost halo outlines appearing around some objects, or is that a problem with the particular game engine?
Thanks for the answer Ralf!
No, i don’t do anything special, it’s running in true fullscreen mode. This happens even with only DK2 as a display, not only in extended mode, which makes no sense at all. Same thing when i select my regular TV as the only screen, the game runs in VorpX mode but the “multi cursor” error doesn’t disspapear.
D2R does not work for me in Skyrim, i get the following error when launching the game in that mode:
Other games like Alan Wake or Mirror’s Edge work just fine. By the way, i’m using Windows 8.1, R9 280X
I hope this feedback helps!
Hi,
I read through the forum and didn’t see this question. When I launch vorpX followed by an application (Morrowind, Mirror’s Edge, etc.), I get an error message that says something to the effect of Windows 7 changing to basic colors. Then, the game actually shows up in “dual goggle” mode on screen, but I get the red-screen HDMI Out of Range error in the OR. My laptop is about 2.5 years old with an ATI Mobility Radeon 5870 (for what it’s worth from a solutioning perspective), which has worked well for the demo population.
Hi,
I’ve exactly the same issue – i’ve try to reboot, turn off programs, plug/unplug but each time get the same message “Head tracking init failed. Tracking will not be available. There might be other programs open that try to access the tracker”
Currently i’ve tried on Borderland 2 and mirror’s edge. If you find something let us know
thanks
I finally got Mirror’s Edge working. I still had the d3d9.dll from Vireio in the Binaries folder.
Everything works fine except Mirror’s Edge and Metro Last Light. Its as if i would start them without VorpX – No Stereo image or headtracking. I also tried to start the games directly from their directory.

I notice this forum is starting to get stale, and it has been a while since your last blog post, Ralf. Any idea when you might get your Rift? I was watching this guy’s video playing Mirror’s Edge using some driver, can’t remember what he called it, but it has roll pitch and yaw. Any idea when you might launch VorpX?
