nice, its often not only an issue of weapon being on screen, but also weapon being too close to eyes and being on same shader other important things are that it just looks wrong like in portal 2 where I had to use console commands to hide it.

Even if you’ll still encounter the framerate dips into the 30 range after the update, that will feel a lot better.

Interesting and really good news. I’ve played some more and i find it pretty playable. I even pushed the graphics settings higher now so i’m eager to see what happens :))

One question though. I’m also playing Deep Rock Galactic and i have 45/45 FPS according to the VorpX counter. But it really is so smooth, that it feels like i’m playing at 60 or even 90 FPS. So you’re right. But i was not able to reproduce that in Metro Redux. If i’m right, i followed same procedure while setting up VorpX, but my framerates were 45/90 which felt absolutely not smooth. After turning off the FluidSync and Async, i have the same framerates in-game and in the headset, but wildly jumping between 50-80 most of the time, occasionaly dropping to 30. I’ll have to check my Deep Rock Galactic settings and try it i guess.

@Zloba: thanks a lot for your reply, you gave me very useful info!

@Ralf: with the new release of Vorpx do we need to download OpenXR dev tool or we need just to prompt WMR as OpenXR (which I already have)?Thank you and have a good job!

No problem mate. After i found the thing with Advanced Physics, i’m thinking about reinstalling the original. There was also an Advanced PhysX setting which could cause the stuttering. And i played the game when it was released and i remember how it left me in awe, as it absolutely nailed the atmosphere and visuals that i was imagining while reading the book prior to playing the game. Redux version on the other hand feels like it lost some of the charm. Maybe it’s the lightning, the color scheme, or the changed music … but it feels totally different compared to the original.

And i’m also curious about the OpenXR. Today i clicked on “Fix It” after the message poped up in WMR portal (something about it not being set up for OpenXR), and after that i just got a message “Done, you’re good to go”. So is it really everything that needs to be done? I read on some Microsoft website that OpenXR does install automatically nowadays. But i also read about the developer tools.

I don’t think there’s a program interfering, because Portal 2 launches with vorpX easily. But I disabled all my malware protection, Discord, anything that could be interfering and still nothing.

Is there another way to install a hook helper? The Sims 4 doesn’t even get the “attaching to” dialogue, it just launches normally without anything out of the ordinary happening. Once I’m in-game, the vorpX menu hotkey has no effect and my VR headset still shows my SteamVR home.

Thanks – that’s really good info! Switched to using a copy of the Conan Exiles profile, and selected that executable. Still can’t seem to get it to even try to hook. There’s some kind of very quick flash of something that comes up when I start Pacify, but I don’t get the Vorpx dialog box as far as I can tell.

Portal 2 definitely works, and is very cool to see.

Hi – new here – so sorry if this a typical clueless post. I’ve tried to get the game Pacify working. It’s a Steam game, so all the usual problems with that I suspect. Engine is supposed to be Unreal 4, so I tried a few existing Vorpx profiles for games that use the engine. No luck – I never get the ‘Vorpx is hooking to…’ dialog.

I AM able to use Portal 2 just fine, so at least I know that Vorpx works on my machine (and with my HMD – I’m using a Reverb G2).

    Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

Have you tried fullscreen or windowed? If you do windowed you’d need to set desktop res to 4k as well.

Portal 2 was first vorpx game Ive tried and Im pretty sure I could go 4k and it was running very well too.

Can’t get the game to run at this 4×3 resolution. The 2K max in the game is too blurry.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

3d is weird, it’s like the world is flattened half a meter in front of you. Head tracking is misaligned, it overshoots the angles (if I look down 30 degrees the view is moved by more than that). For some reason, stick turning can change x-rotation (further misaligning the view with the actual eye direction), when previously it would only rotate around the y-axis, as it is supposed to.

These problems have been there for a while, but I played HL2 and Episode 1 in Garry’s Mod instead. Episode 2 just won’t run in Gmod though (can’t get out of the train because the animations for Alyx getting you out don’t load) so I’d like to play Episode 2 with Vorpx at least. But as I said it’s broken, same way as the main game when I tried months ago.

I already tried resetting the HL2/Portal profile to factory settings but that didn’t fix it.

That did it! Every resolution problem i had has been solved by this. Resident Evil 7, Half Life 2, Black Mesa, Portal, Dishonored, Bioshock, they all look better than i couldve imagined!

The problem was that i tried to be clever when setting the custom resolutions and used 90hz.
Now at 60hz every game lets me choose them and its incredibly beautiful! My Monitor is still at 1440p@165hz and i strangely have to use fullscreen in my headset everywhere to get the desired resolution but it works great!

    Thank you so much!

I fixed the issue by resetting the local profile for HL2/portal to factory default.

There is also antivirus issues and game specific issues – if I remember right portal 2 refused to hook in any way for me until I ran it windowed for example.

    Resolution:

you can raise the game resolution for better image quality in the game’s video options. Note that for Portal 2 it has to be a 4:3 resolution (e.g. 1920×1440). If your PC does not support this resolution, check the “custom resolutions” section in the vorpX help for a step-by-step guide.

    FOV:

Did you run the DirectVR memory scanner? The right value should be cached for Portal 2, but in case the game has been updated recently, you might have to re-run the scanner. There should be a message popping up about that in the headset as well as in the top/left corner of the game window.

After a successful scanner run the FOV is adjusted to fit the FOV of your headset and you get 1:1 low latency tracking including positional tracking.

    General:

The “Essential Hints Guide” in the vorpX help has a lot of useful information that helps you understand how vorpX works.

Greetings to more experienced Vorpxers. I recently tried it out for the first time, hoping to use my Quest 2 to play Portal 2 (best game ever!) in true 3D. It was not a happy first test drive.

(Note: I’ve been successful in getting Virtual Desktop working and playing SteamVR games wirelessly, so I’m not a total Quest 2 n00b, just a Vorpx n00b. Win10, Steam, AMD 5700XT, i8700K, loads of RAM, Quest 2, official Link cable)

I used my Link cable to try Vorpx because I had read that it did not play well with VD. Vorpx installed and launched successfully and the Configure app seemed to work OK. I chose appropriate profiles from the games menu. Everything seemed to be going according to the readme.

But, whether I tried Portal or Portal 2, I had similar deal-breaker issues: really poor rez, my avatar seemed to be 8 feet tall, major crawl and jaggies (like no AA at all), and huge distortion in peripheral vision, like every time I turned my head the world was stretching and bending in a very disturbing way.

I got VRsick very fast, less than 10 minutes, just looking around and walking (never got to any portal-jumping!) and had to quit — and this is a new problem for me, I never get VRsick. After playing, my eyeballs hurt (also a new experience).

Instead of a seamless VR experience I seemed to be looking at a spherical projection screen (a rectangle wrapped around a sphere) floating in a big gray limbo. Maybe this is how it’s supposed to look? I could zoom in to this projection and then it (sorta) seemed like 3d, but with the awful distortion everywhere outside the central focus area. Also head turning seemed to be overmapped bigtime, like small head movements resulted in disproportionate camera rotation (also making me dizzy).

Anyway my Vorpx first test flight was a bummer. I’m hoping I just have missed some obvious configuration options (dumb n00b error) and it actually works much better than that, ‘cos I can’t understand how it got good reviews based on my fairly horrible experience. If anyone else has succeeded with Portal 2 in particular, I’d sure like to know what you did right.

No that’s not it. The game is hooked and don’t use cinema mode.
Usually when I play games with vorpX (HL2, Portal, Bioshock…) I need to hit the DirectVR button so that vorpX adjust rotation, fov, tracking.
With Titanfall 2, the DirectVR button is not available (I can’t find it anywhere).

    Hi Ralf,
thanks for your reply. I’ve already tried to install the hook helper. It asked what kind of directx version game it is. After choosing DirectX 10/11 a success dialog appears but the game won’t start. All I see is the Far Cry 3 logo an the screen. Two things changed since the last time I played Far Cry:
    – I use the HP Reverb G2 with WMR Portal
    – a new vorpx version was installed
Does ist work for you? Maybe you can try this out when you get a chance. It is not so urgent. Enjoy Christmas Day
