Yeah halflife 1 is standalone with motion controls and you can have it locally installed on the quest. So you dont need to be connected to your computer. Download and instructions here; https://www.lambda1vr.com/
The dr.beef dude that made it also ported quake and quake 2 the same way. Just figure out how to use sidequest and download it. Youll need some files from your own version of the games on f.ex steam but other than that its free and super easy to setup :). Been playing Doom 3 vr Fully possessed. Its awsome feels like the game was made for vr
I got grandtheft VR to work, I can point/aim with controllers but its made with the vive controllers in mind so non of the buttons or sticks works. Its a shame, runs great otherwise. Ive contacted the dev, supposedly hes also making a non vorpx version. Maybe he’ll add support for newers controllers.
Bought BFG today :p Also quake 1 and 2 and hl 1 are awsome on the quest, they dont take much space either so you can sideload it and bring it on the go
Actually, it looks like this is happening with all OpenGL games, including Quake 2. Is anyone else able to reproduce this?
OK, figured it now – it runs in 3D on FSO 3.6.12. Here is how to make it work (well at least on my setup :-)) in case someone else will want to give it a try:
– get Freespace 2 (mine comes from GoG)
– get wxLauncher for the SCO
– get FSO 3.6.12 INF SSE2
– get MediaVPs 3.6.12
– use Quake III: Arena profile as suggested by Zarkov
– vorpX needs to hook on fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF_SSE2.exe
Install via wxLauncher and you are ready to go!
The FSO 3.7.4 hooks but does not give a 3D effect (at least not for me). The FSO 3.6.12 works fine.

That’s not quite as important anymore for modern games as it used to be. Most games these days use low latency mouse input with almost as little latency as memory scanner head tracking. The memory scanner is still quite a bit better for other reasons, but the advantage isn’t as huge with most newer games.

I have Quake 1 just downloaded from the Steam Store, running the OpenGL version. Vorpx attaches and the loading screen appears on my monitor and Vorpx says “attached to glquake.exe”, but then Quake just closes. Quake works normally if Vorpx isn’t running. Using Vorpx 19.2.1 and a 1080ti.
Ive just tested a demo of the game v1.000 but it was crashing soon as a hit the drive button. That game is really really old and i would doubt that you will have big fun in VR with it. Respecting that this perhaps is your favorite game though i would suggest trying something newer with better graphics. There are hundrets of newer racing games that you can buy used for a few cent only.
Another thing you could do ist trying the opengl renderer (graphics settings). Use either the Descent2 or Quake3/4 profile for it.
I see in the list that Quake Champions allows G3D, I have GTX 1070 and plan to buy Rift S that have 2x 1280×1440 resolution, I want to know what kind of FPS will I get?
If you have windows vr like Lenovo Explorer that is 2x 1440×1440 or Vive Pro with 2x 1440×1600 you can tell me your FPS too. I would like if you tell me your FPS at ultra and low settings.
So I love old style space sims like X-wing and Wing Commander and so. Sadly most of these games are too old to be supported by VorpX.
However some to make “Freespace 2 open” which runs in OpenGL which is supported by VorpX. Now I haven’t been able to get the current version of feespace 2 open to work with VorpX. It simply won’t hook no matter which profile I try.
But I have been able to get one of freespace 2 open’s offshoots to work with VorpX. Namely Wing commander Saga, which is a good space sim in its own right and is available for free if anyone wants to try it for themselves.
Now the experience isn’t perfect but it’s definitely enjoyable. I’ve used the profile for Quake III Arena (which is also based on OpenGL). Doing that the game hooks without issue and supports geometry3d which looks awesome.
The one issue that I have is that any information on the side of the screen is pretty hard to read and that is where quite a lot of useful info like weapon loadout is located.
The game supports fov changes, however I haven’t been able to get that to work. I’ve asked a question in their forum but it’s not very active. So, I’m not really expecting a reply anytime soon.
Is there any sort of setting in VorpX that I could look at to improve the text at the edges of the screen? Or can I force a different FOV in the profile?
If anybody has an idea why Freespace 2 open won’t hook at all and one of its older offshoots works without issue I would love to find out as well. My guess it’s probably has something to do with different OpenGL functions.
Getting Freespace 2 open to work would be awesome because there are tons of mods and full conversions out there.
You must uncheck the pass through option. Enable the DGVoodoo logo to see if DGVoodoo hooks. If so, vorpx should hook into the game through DX11 but since the game is DX5 VorpX will provide 2D only.
If you wish to use opengl remove any DGVoodoo stuff from the games directory and try vorpX with one of the Quake and Descent 2 or other OLDER OpenGL profiles. There is a chance of 3D through OpenGL.
For opengl, the remake comes with an older dgvoodoo (1.5),
DGVoodoo 1.5 is not an OpenGL wrapper it wraps Glide to DX7 or 9
Note: Some games dont even work at all. So no guarantee.
This is weird because you are using DGVoodoo2, vorpx should hook into the game when using the base profile.(Not one game i have tried so far refused to work, though many were 2D only) the only thing i can imagine is the remake is using iether OpenGL or DX9. To verify this try different DX9 profiles with the game eg. Tombraider Legend, Halo ect. or try an openGL profile eg. Quake4, Descent2. Also make shure that you add the proper games executable to the profile. IF vorpx is hooking with one of the methods above and you have no 3D, you can put the game on the wishlist.
A few more games I’ve tried:
Bioshock 1 RE: Works great, but once you get inside Rapture you notice game hands flip a bit, not game breaking but a bit annoying, maybe it will work better with some weapons over others. It also crashed to desktop at one point, i’m really pushing it with 2700p and everything on though.
Hard Reset: Works great, no issues.
Quake 4: Works great, no issues, but wow is this game ugly, it really aged badly.
Return to Castle Wolfestain : Wow, this game really surprised me, perfect scale, really immersive, silk smooth performance, doesn’t look bad even so many years later. Still it gets some clipping at the edges of the screen, maybe it can be tweaked.
Tron 2.0: Scale was wrong, maybe it would look better by tweaking FOV, i just didn’t bother.
Stanley Parable: Works great, no issues, performance could be better though for such simple graphics.
The game hasn’t been advertised as being supported anywhere or anytime, so I don’t see how you might have been cheated. More importantly: there is zero chance that this issue has been introduced by vorpX, especially considering that it only occurs in first person view. As Tandin pointed out the issue started to occur for him early 2018. Try to go back to an earlier version of Second Life from before the issue started to occur if possible.
You could also try to create your own user profile based on another OpenGL game: try Descent 2 (D2X-XL), Quake, Quake 3, Quake 4 for example. They all handle OpenGL slightly different. Maybe one solves your issue.
I can’t recommend anything more specific unfortunately since the game never even has been checked here. Providing specific help for unsupported games for obvious reasons is not possible, sorry.
May be thats an openGL issue, i remember Unreal Tournament behaving similar. Another thing you can do check the VorpX HUD Settings and give the 3 sliders different values. If you can rename the executable of the game, do that, then try different Quake profiles , also try the Descent 2 and Star Wars: Jedi Knight II – Jedi Outcast profile with the game.
vorpX does not support newer (shader based) OpenGL versions in stereoscopic 3D. With a few exception OpenGL games newer than Doom 3/Quake 4 are 2D only.
There is no way to create a Geometry 3D profile for Rage unless vorpX gets G3D support for newer OpenGL versions, which is unlikely since just a handful of games would benefit from that.
