No big. Anyway, the problem is solved. It appears what was going down is that the config will not start before the product is registered, and when the desktop app failed to start, I couldn’t register, hence, no config. I’m all registered now.

Haven’t had a ton of luck with games so far but that could be down to my setup. My Vive goes grey constantly due to performance issues, and this happens in official SteamVR software as well. With new graphics cards and intel chips rolling out in the next month, it seems I will be building a new computer to use this thing. I got Vorpx a bit prematurely knowing I would probably run into the same problems with it that I did with games in Steam VR. I got Proteus started in Vorpx (had to create a desktop shortcut), but the display kept going grey. I went with Proteus even though it’s not officially supported because its graphics are not demanding. Alas, it seems they are still a bit *too* demanding for my barely-functional VR setup. I can run Tilt Brush in this thing and that’s about it.

    For those curious,
    i7-4770K @ 3.5 ghz
    Radeon R9 290
8 gigs DDR3 (soon to be 16, this was the easy part to improve upon…)

I think I’m running into problems with my motherboard, CPU, and GPU alike. The system as a whole just can’t roll with the VR experience yet. However it does look like when I get the rest of it working, Vorpx will be functional as well. Thanks for the help! See you all in a bit when I get my shit ironed out :P

I bought Thief (2014) on steam the day it came out, it’s been installed ever since. When I try to run the optimizer it says that it’s not installed and there is no path. I noticed that some games say “Steam” by them and others don’t. The only reason I bought VorpX is to play these games I have on steam because the website said that these games are supported. I’m starting to think that they’re not.

Is there a way to get these to work off of steam (I’m using the HTC Vive btw), or do I need to just attempt to get a refund for Vorpx?

It’s definitely not the same experience as the full VR games but that’s fine with me. I was struggling with having this $800 piece of technology that I only play once or twice a week because of the trouble of setting it up and lack of real games. I bought vorpx and started testing a bunch of games out (which is fun in itself). I finally settled on COD Advanced Warfare which I picked up on a Steam sale but never started. I’m almost done with the campaign and have been BLOWN AWAY!!! I couldn’t take the head tracking as you mentioned…it didn’t add enough and actually made things more difficult for me. I switched it to cinema mode, zoomed to -1 so it’s like i’m sitting in the front row, disabled head tracking, and away I went. It’s not as immersive but going from that to playing on my regular monitors is night and day. It’s defintely worth the price of admission and adds so much functionality to my Vive. My only issue is how much tinkering each game takes…it’d be nice if it was truly plug and play. That’s the downside of being on the cutting edge though…a sacrifice I’m happy to make for the return.

I was experiencing the same issue, black screen in games but I could hear the music. On another post someone suggested an uninstall/reinstall of VorpX and that fixed my problem!

I was so angry it wasn’t working and a lack of instructions for how to use VorpX but it’s because it’s really as easy as 1, 2, 3.

    1. Run SteamVR
    2. Run VorpX
    3. Launch game
    4. Configure VorpX in game.

    OK maybe 1, 2, 3, 4 :)

This shouldn’t be necessary if you start SteamVR before playing games with vorpX. Still thanks for this solution!

    So….as the title says.
I managed to get it working for Alien: Isolation (Steam).
Arma 3 (Steam) does not even start, and when i try it with Flight Simulator X (non-Steam), i only have a black screen on my Vive and the Monitor, but the game is running (i can hear the sound).

I’m kinda pissed off. On the store page it sounded like it just plugs itself to all of those supported games, now it turns out that it works rather bad than good, at least for Vive owners from what i read here in this forum.

So, does anyone have an idea about Arma 3 and FSX?
I already disabled all possibly interfering hardware, HMD is in direct mode, and Steam VR and VorpX are running.

I’m having the same issue, except that vorpX gives me SteamVR error 301. It seems fine with other games though.

So not sure exactly what’s doing that but I have the same issue(had it before vorpx though…steam vr cinema did the same thing). From what I’ve found it seems to be a conflict with full screen mode on games and the way that ties in to the vorpx/vr cinema. My fix has been to set games to windowed mode before starting steamvr/vorpx, save and exit, launch steamvr/vorpx, then launch the game. I figure it’s an nvidia issue and will work itself out in a future driver update.

Hi, I also have this problem with most of my games, setting path not found. I think the only ones it hasn’t been working on are ones that store the configs in the steam folder. (ie fallout 4, dead space 3, bioshock infinite work fine and I know they use the docs folder, while Portal 2, Metro Last light redux, serious sam, talos principle, antichamber did not work.)

All software runs under the same account and level (ie user only, no admin use) although I did try running the config as admin to be sure, no folders redirects to network shares (home folders all default locations), tested games have all been run at least once.

Registry entries correctly point to steam folder:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Valve\Steam]
    “SteamExe”=”d:/steam/steam.exe”
    “SteamPath”=”d:/steam”

Running Windows 10, fairly clean and new install, rest of system is on C drive, only steam is on D drive, no issues with any other software that accesses configs or games folders without manual input.

If this is not fixable, couldn’t a simple option to export optimized game settings be added so you can replace the configs yourself?

Edit: Btw I am running the latest Beta version, with the Vive and so far after a lot of tweaking it has been working fine.

Im having the same problem. Only game that will hook is skyrim. Windows 10 3xgtx980 ti. My vorpx is installed on c and my steam is on D if that makes any difference. I will get a log for you later ralf.

Pretty much the exact same issue. Tried a couple of games with no luck, saw this post loaded up skyrim, worked fine in that.

    Thanks for the reply!

Unfortunately, if the Steam overlay fails to load entirely, then the controller won’t use _any_ profile, be it mouse/keyboard, x-box, or otherwise. It’ll get stuck in its default “desktop” mode which isn’t usable for games, so gamepad emulation won’t help in this situation. However, turning on “show original” will get all types of profiles working, albeit without its Steam’s overlay being drawn in-game.

That said, your gamepad emulation suggestion did get me thinking about another vorpX feature I forgot about: the VR hotkeys should perfectly replace the Steam controller’s overlay. So the problem was solved anyway! :)

For anyone that runs into similar Steam controller problems: turning on “Show Overlay” can get controller profiles working. Steam’s in-game overlay won’t work (at least, consistently), but vorpX’s own hotkeys work great. (at least for Fallout: New Vegas, YMMV for other games)

Hi, I just bought Vorpx recently and it has worked well with some games and not so well with others, in Fallout 4 I have launched successfully and tweaked parameters but I can’t get Arma 3 to launch in my Oculus, it only displays on my T.V. I have my Oculus hooked into the HDMI port and my TV running on an adapter from a display port, and I am running windows 7. I tried to make the rift my primary display, but my computer only sees my T.V. as a display option, not the oculus. I don’t have this problem with Mount and Blade, Chiv, or Fallout 4, so I deleted every Arma 3 folder on my computer and did a fresh install to no avail. All I see in the oculus is a white gridspace with my sensor while the game loads and plays on my monitor. The only thing that happens is once the arma3 client begins to load, the oculus flickers to black for a split second but then returns to the white empty space. I have read through the trouble shooting and I have no idea what the problem is.

*edit – I have also tried running the game both with steam VR on and with it off, neither seems to help.

I also was able to optimize the settings with the config optimizer but it doesn’t seem to help the game launch on the oculus either. If you could suggest some solutions or places to check I would appreciate it as I would really enjoy playing Arma 3 and Vorpx has worked fine out of the box with other games I own. Thanks.

Here’s a bit of an odd issue: I’d really like to turn _on_ the Steam overlay while playing games with vorpX

I’m trying to play Fallout: New Vegas with vorpX using a Steam Controller, but to use the controller, Steam’s overlay needs to be running. Also, I’d like to be able to see its overlay (part of the Steam Big Picture Mode overlay) in-game, since the controller has its own menus for hotkeys and profile switching and whatnot.

For whatever reason, this actually works! … but only on the first run after a cold boot of my PC. I’ve been able to play the game with vorpX, Steam’s overlay, and the controller all working beautifully, at least long enough to start making a nice controller profile (even using touch menus within the headset). But, when I quit out of the game and start it again, the Steam overlay never loads and the controller doesn’t function properly. (vorpX injects fine in this case, however)

When the overlay fails to inject, I’ve noticed that I can — with the vorpX in-game menu — turn on “Direct Mode Show Original”. As soon as the game draws on my display, Steam’s overlay injects like it should have at the beginning. This gets controls working, but then Steam only draws its overlay on my actual monitor, and not in the headset.

I’m guessing that in the “cold boot” scenario Steam’s overlay injects itself before vorpX does, but in subsequent runs vorpX manages to inject itself first. Assuming that’s the case, is there some consistent way to make sure Steam injects its overlay before vorpX does (without having to reboot)?

My procedure for starting the game is roughly: 1) Boot 2) Start vorpX 3) Start Steam’s Big Picture Mode 4) Turn on Steam Controller 5) Start game with controller.

(If it helps, I’m using a Rift CV1 on Windows 10.)

Edit: I’ve also tried pausing the watcher before starting the game, letting it start up normally, and then resuming the watcher. Unfortunately this just seems to crash the game.

Yea, its the Steam Version of both games. When I start them, whether I start them from Steam or their executable, they just launch on the flat screen and not the HMD. This is using the HTC Vive. If you have any other advice for me to get them to work besides changing to DX9 in the options, please let me know. STALKER games are some of my absolute most favorite games. I would love to experience them in VR.

If you happen to own the GOG versions of the games, you can try to create a vorpX desktop shortcut (right click the tray icon, choose the according option). These shortcuts may hook more reliably in some cases than the auto detection.

This only works for games that are started directly though (like games from GOG). For most Steam games this method will not work.
