Doesn’t it work with the Fallen Order profile? I had the impression that Respawn stayed with UE4.

It looks like something is not working properly with the memory of the video card. I set the texture resolution to low. Was able to play for over two hours. After that, the fps began to fall, and in the end the game crashed to the desktop. If the textures are set to high, the game starts to slow down and crashes after half an hour. Approximately.
    I have 12Gb on board.

    Hello,

Since december 2022, I can’t run Vorpx on my main PC properly both in HP Reverb G2 as Oculus Rift S (specs below).

Games like oblivion, fallout 3, fallout vegas skyrim… textures look blurred inside headset (I don’t know how to express it, it’s like a posterized image with much less quality) and all the games have much less performance even at minimum resolutions/quality. (on the monitor textures show properly, I don’t understand that)

When trying to run games in z normal or z adaptative, headset shows only colored lines on the image (on the monitor it shows perfectly again). What could be happenning?. I have made a clean vorpx reinstall without success.

    Thank you in advance

    SPECS:
    VORPX 21.3.3
    Core i7 12700k
    32GB DDR3600
    RTX3090
    Windows 11 22H2 updated
HP REVERB G2 and Oculus RIFT S

Windows has been being updated during this time, also my RTX 3090 (it has been tested with drivers 517.48 to 531.68)

    Hello,

I have version 21.3.3 of the Vorpx software which claims to support motion controls – and following various videos showing how to access the settings.

My Oculus Touch settings within Vorpx when a game is launched has no options for motion controls at all. I follow the menu screens but it appears Vorpx does not support the Meta Quest 2 touch controllers past button mapping.

I am trying to configure both Fallout 3 and Cyberpunk to include the gestures (which are included in version 21.3.3) however I have no options in my menus for configuring gestures at all.

If required, I can make a video showing what I see on my end, following guides, etc – I do not have the same menu options.

I followed the post here but couldn’t get the same options:

After a few hours testing The Last of Us, i have to say that the gameplay is completely slow, boring and outdated and the atmosphere is devastating depressive. Now, i can say the whole gaming season 2022/2023 sucks and is waste of time and waste of money ! I don’t think that Jedi Surviver, Redfall or Dead Island 2 will change this opinion.

3 years of Covid and the Gaming industry is nearly dead !

    Next Goal is Starfield !

i have bought the software yesterday and have spend roughly 5 hours now trying to get this to work.

    – i start windows
    – start htc vive pro
    – start vorpx
    – goto steam and start fallout 4

whatever i try, after a second my headset will shutdown – turn black and vorpx will throw the following error:

“OpenVR runtime init failed. vorpx will not work correctly. try to restart the game, steamvr or pc
    OpenVR runtime error:
    Vr sysem shutting down (119)(119)”

    OR

“OpenVR runtime init failed. vorpx will not work correctly. try to restart the game, steamvr or pc
    OpenVR runtime error:
Shared ipc compositor connect failed (306)(306)”

I disabled all other software as mentioned in the “basic troubleshooting” post.

    My pc:

    i5 13600k
    rtx 4090
    6000 ddr5

and using the htc vive pro 2. everything is updated.
i tried some combination in the general tab of vorpx config like
    – dont optimize game settings
    – run vorpx as admin
    – installed hooking methods suggested by popup when it took too long.

also tried to launch with the game with different graphic/resolution pre-sets, all without a different result.

if anyone could help me out a bit it would be greatly appreciated1

Hello I’m a total Vorpx noob who purchased the program just a couple days ago. For my first game I want to play Fallout 3 GOTY (which I last played way back in 2009 on PS3) with a bunch of mods (through Vortex) that hopefully will make the experience better in VR.

I finally got the game running pretty well on my new 4080 PC (Quest 2 through Virtual Desktop) in 90hz which seems to get rid of most of the weird warp stutter I experienced on 120hz. Playing in Full VR G3D on Phenomenal graphic setting.

Now I’m looking for advice on the best mods for playing the game in VR, and perhaps also advice on what mods to avoid in case they should be game-breaking in Vorpx. That’s where you experienced Vorpx Vault Hunters hopefully enter the equation!

I’ve been looking at Nexus collections like “Rebirth+” and “Vanilla But Kinda Better” and just taking whatever mods I feel like from there. I think I’ll avoid TTW for now. Nexus collections are here:

    https://next.nexusmods.com/fallout3/collections

Mods I’ve installed so far: FOSE, Command Extender, ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated, Updated Unofficial F3 Patch, F3 Tic Fix… just basic stuff to get it running. I tried RH Iron Sights but didn’t like how gigantic the weapons became while aiming and the annoying swaying.

I would greatly appreciate any help! Thank you.

I played it flat on a TV on a PS4 in 2016, and it is a awesome game ! But i want to play it in 4K and 3D on my HP Reverb 2 again.

It is a very good decision to check games in the next few weeks, because there will be some interesting Releases: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Dead Island 2, Redfall, Suicide Squad, System Shock Remake, Diablo 4 !

I wish you a lot of fun !

    Hey Ralf…
Probably just a lack of understanding the ins & outs of a BETA for a lot of us.
I know I had some issues with the previous BETA. I mentioned here having my mouse get stuck, and having to reboot the PC sometimes etc. But then my brain defaulted to ‘I’ll wait for the next BETA. It’ll probably be sorted by then!’
I never thought to send log files. I thought you’d magically know what was going on out there in the ether.
I know that sounds silly… but it’s true.
And this last BETA… everything has worked great for me! So my latest log file would read ‘played Jedi Fallen Order for hours on desktop viewer & everything worked perfectly’. ;)
Is there perhaps a way you can have log files auto-generate and send to you when we’re using a BETA?
It could be a part of the deal. ie. We’d have to agree to that to test the BETA.
    I’m just spit balling here.
I know I’d be happy to contribute to make your job easier. I think if you tell us specifically what you need from us, I imagine most people would feel the same.
Perhaps lay out some instructions as to the best way to go about it all.
I don’t even know where the logfiles are. Are they generated whenever Vorpx runs? Only on crashes etc? Do we email them to you at support, or post them here? How big or small an issue is worth sending a log file? (eg. sometimes vorpx wouldn’t do what I expected the first time. But the next time it did). All that kinda stuff.
I came on here and asked some questions on here a few times and you would be quick with answers. Is it better to send log files than bring up issues in this thread? These are all things I know I’m not quite sure of. So others might be in the dark about them too.

For stuff like the pipboy little gestures like the wrist flip are perfect. Currently there is only an inwards flip, but at least up will come shortly in addition to that for two more possible actions. Not sure whether down/outwards make much sense for even more, feels a bit weird for my taste, but I guess it can‘t hurt. Also there will definitely be a backpack (inventory) gesture shortly.

I played a whole lot of Fallout 3, which is one of my alltime favorites, with motion controllers years ago, long before gestures. With Touch controllers admittedly, but Index shouldn‘t feel too different. Really boils down to getting used to it, you weren’t born with a gamepad in your hands either. Afterwards it’s truly human being with free hands (motion controllers) vs. squirrel nibbling nuts (gamepad). And that is without gestures. Add aiming down sights, throwing grenades etc. to that. I think you get the picture. Leave your comfort zone, pays off. I’m notorious for saying ‘can’t promise anything’ here fairly often, in this regard I can say the opposite with confidence. :)

Can‘t really imagine how vorpX might affect your VSync issue while not hooked into a game, but I‘ll double check that, of course.

    @ Tambora:

Does the AFR3D method (DirectVR in the menu) not work anymore? That should actually be better than the prior G3D since it works with all shadows.

    @ petey:

Windows loves to shuffle around desktop icons when resolution or the display config changes. The virtual display manager already tries to deal with that by creating/restoring icon layout backups, but how Windows decides to place icons in case of config changes is so intransparent and weird that I can’t rule out occasional glitches like that entirely.

    @ Heon_X:

I got the dual monitor primary/secondary glitch here myself once during multi-monitor testing, but not really replicable. Shouldn’t happen unless things go totally wrong and vorpX can’t restore the display config backup it created. Fairly weird issue. Multi monitor setups are too rare to consider that a show stopper for the whole virtual display, but I’ll try to figure that one out on some rainy Sunday.

I do not get the admin crash here. You shouldn‘t do that anyway unless you are running older games that require admin rights themselves, hooking into games/apps that require admin rights themselves is the only reason you would ever want to run vorpX as admin.

Hooking: if you have trouble hooking practically all DX11 games, there almost certainly is something running on your machine that also hooks into games and causes a conflict. A lot of tools/utilities hook into games.

If you didn’t do that already, please first try to install a hook helper. The option to do that pops up in the ‘Attaching To…’ dialog after a while in case hooking fails. Can often help without having to get to the bottom of hooking conflicts. If you already did that and it didn’t help or you don’t even see the ‘Attaching To…’ dialog: remove everything you may have running in the background. Everything.

Same for your 20% GPU utilization issue. You should ideally avoid maxing out the GPU since the game, vorpX and finally the headset runtime all need some GPU time, which becomes increasingly difficult when the GPU utilization nears 100%. Things falling apart at 20% on the other hand is just plain wrong. BTW: If you happen to use the Windows task manger to monitor GPU usage, try nVidia Inspector (precise, but doesn’t hook games) to cross check. Task manager used to display imagined values in the past occasionally.

In general: I can’t really provide specific help based on vague forum posts: if you encounter severe problems, create a trouble shoot archive in the config app after running a few problematic games and send it to support at vorpx com. Can‘t promise that’ll clear up every potential issue, but at least that way I have some hard facts I can look at. Without some insight there just is no way at all to tell what might be wrong.

When vorpX hooks into a game, it overrides VSync anyway, so in that case the major advantage of the virtual display is making it much, much easier to run games at higher resolutions than your monitor allows. Prior you had to manually add a dozen of resolutions to your GPU driver, and with bad luck had to repeat that after each driver update. Also there is no way to freely add resolutions for AMD GPUs. Now you don’t have to know or do anything about that anymore. You don’t even have to know about the virtual display. Things just work as intended by firing up the desktop viewer and putting on your headset.

May sound a bit unsexy for tech savvy 4K display owners among you for whom adding resolutions to their GPU driver is a matter of course, but is in fact the biggest improvement in terms of user friendliness since ages because it removes a major hurdle you had to not only know about, but also (tediously) overcome before you were even able to use vorpX in the best possible way.

The refresh rate topic is an added benefit for playing games with the desktop viewer itself. e.g. when you want to play games that can’t be hooked because they have some form of anticheat or when you want to use an external 3D solution. There are quite a few desktop capture apps, but as far as I’m aware none tackles this issue. Getting that right just wasn’t possible at all before, so this one is also of interest for those of you who might have fallen asleep when reading the above. ;)

As far as your hooking issue is concerned, that should indeed just work as always. Can’t recommend anything else than always in such a case. Check the trouble shooting guide in the technical support sub forum for potential conflicts you might want to look into.

No software I own (predominantly music DAW sw & plugins) have ever come with perpetual updates.
When there is a new version that offers new & improved features, every user has a choice. You can keep using the sw you own as is and pay nothing. Or, if those new features have value to you, you pay an upgrade fee. Makes sense to me.
The new desktop viewer, alone absolutely falls into that category imho. Not to speak of the other improvements.
Which reminds me, Ralf. Is there an ETA on the next BETA? Very keen to try it out!

I’m not really a fan of Patreon for software and similar things. It absolutely has its place for podcasters, Youtubers, artists in the broadest sense in general who rely on an audience of some kind. In my personal coordinate system providing software falls in a different category though. Probably the biggest issue being updates, locking even bug fixes and maintenance releases behind a monthly payment just doesn’t feel right. Never say never, but unless at some point I’m forced to do that, I won’t consider it. I don’t claim to be the good Samaritan next door, but that has always been too cynical for my taste. Doubly so for vorpX, where game updates can break things anytime.

There will be some form of license renewal in the not too distant future though. 10 years of completely free support (for those who bought 2013) on the other hand is indeed way more than what was originally planned.

I’m currently weighing a few options and have to see what is easiest to implement. Either 18-24 months free updates and then a paid upgrade at a reduced price or alternaticely 3-4 years of free updates and a full new purchase after that. Financially the same, what it will be in the end will depend on what is easier to do with the current licensing/store implementation.

There probably will be a handful of people who got so accustomed to free stuff over 10 years that I’ll have to deal with a few inevitable complaints, but in the end hopefully everyone will come to the realization that free updates forever are just not a reasonable thing to expect. Especially not for something like vorpX, where a version purchased 10 years ago would be completely useless by now without continuous updates.

It might not be necessary after all.
I tried a game (Dishonored Death of the Outsider) without an official profile just to see if I could get it to work in pancake mode.
But it refused to boot with the GEO-11 shader fixes DX11 DLL in the folder.
It just kept looping and trying to start the game.

Not sure if there’s a way of getting around this. But if we could hook directly into games to simply display them as is, it’d open up a lot of possibilities re: 3d gaming.
I’ve tried a few games on the new desktop viewer, and while it’s great… it’s not as stable as hooked games. I played Titanfall 2 and Rocket League earlier, and they don’t miss a beat at 90fps.
