I have played a bit further in Half Life 2 with the cinema mod. It runs pretty well, but there is a few bugs. And i don´t know if its the mod or simple HL2.
I get a lot of that zooming in and out at times. I read somewhere its vorpx that tries to prevent a crash. Is that the cinema mod who is screwing things up??

And do you have any idea when DirectVR support could come to HL source? :)

Also, I tested Bioshock 1 & 3 today.. It runs really nice!! Ralf, I don´t have that much time to play all these games with this awesome software :) :)
    Thank you for this!!!!

Looks like the DgVoodoo. dll is broken for the Wip version.
I only use Vorpx for some sim games ans GTR2 are my favorite.
Both GTL and GTR2 are now going into endless looping with X_config.exe resetting back to 600×800 16bit.

I know there are cloud profiles for GTR2 but not only did the DegVoodoo.dll make the games looks much better it also including G3D with perfect motec LCD it also ran with +90 fps something I can’t even get with a RTX 2070 /I7 7700k with the standard profile.

I know the support is unofficial but it worked great before and now it is NFG

I surely try that out :) My plan was to run trough everything Half Life ;) So i will get to EP 1 at some point :)

The stutter is almost certainly unrelated to the FOV change. In BF2 FOV is changed by editing the game’s ini. The game probably resets it when you open the graphics options hence you see a message after closing the options menu. This only happens once after closing the menu.

I’ll check whether there might be some other reason for stutter recently.

G3D for Frostbite is due for vorpX 19.1.0. I’m still shooting for pre-Christmas, but that’s not entirely certain anymore. Fingers crossed.

Just in case: If you are using a WMR headset, please make sure that FluidSync is enabled (should be per default) and you get solid 45fps. WMR headsets still don’t support SteamVR’s asynchronous reprojection.

The FOV change stutter is happening constantly in menus but I’m not doing anything like changing graphics options. I’m just going through the menu to start arcade / multiplayer or to reload an arcade round. For example the FOV stutter happens when it’s time to select my star wars character in arcade mode. It also happens right when I am killing which makes dying very jarring.

Is it possible to disable FOV changes when it’s completely not helpful such as when I’m using an immersive screen?

    Also I’m on the Vive.

One thing I forgot: If a game is set to immersive screen/cinema mode per default, you can be 99% sure that that makes most sense. If games are suitable for full VR mode they default to full VR and vice versa.

Most do, but some games don’t capure the mouse while running windowed. Add the resolutions in the “Custom Resolutions” section of the vorpX help to your PC. After doing so running games windowed isn’t really important anymore since then you can run games at resolutions higher than your monitor allows fullscreen.

General advice: do not tweak too much. Default settings typically are chosen carefully. In a lot of cases it’s easier to break everything than to improve anything by tweaking settings.

Am I being stupid here? (very probably, it won’t be the first time).

I am trying to tweak some games and get them working to my liking using vorpx.
I set whatever game up in windowed mode as advised.
But then, while in my headset, I press delete to bring up the menu. But meanwhile, outside the headset, I have no way of knowing where my mouse is moving and whether it is inadvertently deleting something from my desktop!

Is it really intended to be used this way? I am constantly trying to change settings with one eye, while the other eye peeks through a gap at my desktop to make sure nothing untoward is happening.

I get your point and i of coarse accept that. Hope that everything will turn out good for everyone. ..Feel a bit guilty about that dll thing

As fast as the VR runtimes are still evolving that is impossible to maintain. You (and to an even greater degree I who had to figure out for hours what was wrong) experienced that first hand just a few months ago when you assumed vorpX wouldn’t work while in fact the problem was the outdated SteamVR version you used.

The only viable way to prevent having to deal with incompatibilities like that on a regular basis is to make sure everyone uses the most recent versions as far as possible. Neither Valve nor Oculus offer downgrade options for precisely that reason. While for you such issues may be an unfortunate nuisance, for devs like me (or those at Valve/Oculus) it’s far worse since valuable time is lost for nothing.

Once the runtimes have matured in a few years your wish might be something worth considering, until then everything stays like it is. At Valve, at Oculus and also here.

    Hello Guys,
Ive been using vorpx for a couple weeks now. All of a sudden I get a messed now.

“Sorry. vorpX encountered a critical error and cnnot do its magic. :\

Try restarting the application. If the problem persists, reinstalling vorpX might help.

    Error code:2”

As cute as this message is I am not really sure why suddenly it wont work. I don’t believe I have even updated anything on my PC. I get this message by clicking start vorpx or trying to launch the vorpx desktop viewer. I sent a request in for a new download link. Still waiting on it. I even reinstalled my occulus rift software thinking maybe it had something to do with this.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Hey I am using Vive Pro (SteamVR) – everything working perfectly up until update today (18.3.2.2) – now I get a black screen whenever I load into a game ? Rebooted etc after installation. Desktop viewer works fine, but whenever I hook into a game (Kingdom Come, Arma3, Star Citizen) – I just get a black screen in the HMD. The game screen on the monitor has the Vorpx logo, so it seems to be hooking OK, and audio plays fine – but now everything is black – any ideas ? Tried running as admin but no joy. Thanks.

A lot of games have some minor issues with the G3D shadows. (ie. the same shadow being shown in both eyes, that just looks wrong) I’m not asking for a fix, because I assume if it was possible it would have been done long ago. I’m just curious, is this some sort of technical limitation of VorpX? Is it even fixable? More out of curiosity than anything.
Anyone knowledgable care to enlighten me on the problem? I’m assuming its just a really tough problem that hasn’t been solved yet.

Out of the box, there is quite a bit of light bleed for some people because the angle of the faceplate to the halo is just bad. Modding it (with elastics or velcro) to pull in the face plate closer so you can wear the halo properly fixes everything. Some people don’t have that issue.

The headphones are great. Same as the DAS.

Still coming in 19.1.0. Unfortunately I lost a full week to fix everything related to the recent SteamVR issue(s).

Fingers crossed that no more unplanned fixes will be necessary before the next regular update.
