Hello guys, I recently updated my DK2 to Oculus Runtime 1.3. I am also using the runtime switcher to switch back to 0.8.

But every time when I tried to launch VLC or Rise of Tomb Raider or anything, I got this error message saying:

vorpX could not initialize your Oculus Rift. It reported:
Client version too old to connect to service

Here is my Oculus runtime 0.8 info:

    Display Driver Version: 1.2.8.0
    Positional Tracker Driver Version: 1.0.14.0
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770S CPU @ 3.10GHz
    HMD Firmware: 2.12
    Connected to OVRService server.

    Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Hi,
my framerate is really low, when I use the desktop viewer.
I get around 120-150 fps in Tomb Raider (Fraps), but the Fps in the Vorpx desktop viewer are as low as 20.
When I turn async rendering on I get around 70 Game FPS and around 30-60 Direct Mode FPS.

oh right, well that seems interesting I will give that a go with the new update and let you know how it goes.

“at least to all games that allow to somehow separate the HUD programatically inside vorpX”

hmm, not sure how you mean there, some games allow you to change the hud with ‘scale UI’, some games when you increase the 3D FOV enhancement it also moves the hud as well, changing camera height modifier sometimes also changes hud position (but not camera position).

also I did try Z-3D in black mesa, unfortunately the crosshair has a distressing shimmering effect when that type of 3D is engaged, overall I just played the game in 2D due to these issues, however the game worked really well in 3D and would love to get the crosshair issue fixed.

if this fix works this may also solve the 3 tomb raider games, as those games also had those issues.

hmm, Yeah I think its a shader manipulator, I heard its compatible with 3D vision only, but you never know, maybe a few people could try out some of his fixes, they seem to involve replacing the DirectX dll so it may not be related to vorpx, he has 3D fixes for the tomb raider games HUD offset problem, which exists in vorpx when geometry 3D is selected.

Okay in the tomb raider game it does NOT change the camera height, so there is no fear of collision detection, so if it could be done I would love camera pan modifier (even though I would only use it to move hud left/right when it acts like that in the game).

I am playing deus ex (original) at the moment, it works great in geometry 3D, however the hud only shows decently in one eye but is too far to the right.

now if I had a camera pan modifier that does exactly what camera height modifier does, but on the Z axis of the screen instead, then that would be much better.

Strangely enough when rename the exe to haloce i get geometry 3D!

very odd since haloce does not do geometry 3D itself.

However, similar to tomb raider underworld the UI is split into two eyes and has a huge offset, but unlike tomb raider underworld this causes the game to be unplayable, as the crosshair has double vision and there are a lot of menus in this game.

looks like people had similar issues when running this game with 3D vision.

maybe there is some setting in vorpx that we can change that will fix this issue.

yeah any game where you can’t increase the FOV I would say doesn’t work with vorpx, setting letterbox 2 is basically now just like a monitor.

similar situation with Tomb Raider 2013, can’t wind anyway to increase the Field of view at all.

yes I noticed one game that supports HUD scaling under 3D is crysis 1, it almost gets to where I want it to be with the lowest setting, but not quite, if that number could be lowered to 30 that would be great, is there any reason on the cap being 50 in these settings, like UI scaling and zoom?

however in the above post I was refering to the camera height modifier functuionality, the game was tomb raider underworld, and changing this settings actually changed the hud placement which is what I want anyway, I think it would be a good idea to have the same option on the X axis, I know the wording would be strange , I guess it would be called “camera pan modifier” but sometimes this settings changes the hud which can be a lifesaver in games.

any advice at all to get this working, seems to inject fine and vorpx even says DX11 only which is fine, however there is no way I can see to increase the FOV in the game, will vorpx have support for geometry 3D in this game to enabled to 3D FOV enhancer?

I just looked over a huge list of games with vorpx support but I suspect it was for DK1 only, included on the list I saw Tomb Raider Underworld and was wondering if it had 3D support for DK2 or only DK1?

    Definitely Battlefield 3.

Fallout 3 is a very good game, but it looks horribly outdated and will be bad with the rift I think.

Either you need a really good ‘photorealistic’ game like Battlefield 3, Crysis, Portal, Project cars, or a game with a particular style like Minecraft, Borderlands, dishonored.

Old games which tried to be ‘photorealistic’ looks very bad today. For exemple I can easily play at ratchet and clank because the cartoon style doesn’t look outdated, but games like the first tomb raiders, Vice city etc just look bad
