In case of Far Cry Primal the game has to be restarted once whenever something changes that affects the FOV (typically only once), the FOV adjustment is done with an .ini tweak here. Unfortunately that can’t be applied right away. The game applies the changed .ini value after a restart. Whenever that is necessary vorpX displays a little pop-up message.
The Portal 2 FOV flicker is indeed DirectVR related. In this case the memory scanner does the FOV adjustment in realtime without the need for a restart. Shouldn’t flicker though with a 4:3 res normally… Does that also happen without recording software running?
Not sure about the revesed axes. Do you by any chance play with a reversed mouse y-axis. That would have this effect.
The stuttering happened after I ran DrectVR Scan in Portal. Watching my footage back it was fine upto that point and yes I had ratio 4:3
So why did Far Cry Primal look better for me with Letterbox 2? The pixel 1:1 always looks too close and claustrophobic for me?
I put all my Full VR to letterbox 2 now. You can even see the FOV change when I selected it?
Also the Y Axis for Portal 2 and I tried Bulletstorm where reversed by default? Do I need to re-install again?
:)
Did you change to a 4:3 res? has to be exactly 4:3 for Portal 2 and other games based on the same engine (e.g. Half-Life 2 or Black Mesa). Viable resolutions would e.g. be 1600×1200, 1920×1440 or 2560×1920.
On a sidenote: Watched your Far Cry video earlier and noticed that you changed the aspect to ‘Letterbox’. While that is highly useful when vorpX can’t handle FOV automatically, it’s not necessary in games where vorpX adjusts the FOV. Whenever a profile supports automatic FOV, vorpX computes an FOV that perfectly fits your headset FOV regardless of settings in the menu.
The only reason to prefer ‘Letterbox’ with automatic FOV handling would be getting a crisper image, which of course can be a good reason too.
Just a guess, but I wouldn’t rule out that in case of Portal 2 that may introduce flicker.
The list is shorter currently than I’d like it to be, will check some more first person games shortly together with adding gestures. Got somewhat shoved to the backseat when I started to experiment with gestures. Same for the related authoring UI.
With the current detection mechanism my guess would be that it should be possible to add the feature to maybe half the G3D first person games. Additional manual authoring based on shaders or buffers is thinkable and would probably be able to catch most of the other half, but would also require more work per game than the current mechanism. So no promises in that respect.
Current games with auto weapon hide:
Aliens: Colonial Marines
Black Mesa Source
Crysis
Fallout 4
Half-Life 2 and episodes
Halo MCC (tested only on the first campaign)
Portal 2
Skyrim SE
Titanfall 2
Thanks so much Ralf.
I’ve Googled this: “Just in case: make sure that Windows Mixed Reality is your OpenXR runtime.”
Found these instructions:
Change to WMR OpenXR runtime:
Download from WindowsStore “OpenXR Developer Tools for Windows Mixed Reality”.
Connect your WMR headset (Reverb G2 in my case).
Launch Mixed Reality Portal.
Launch “OpenXR Developer Tools for Windows Mixed Reality”.
Go to Home (default) tab in “OpenXR Developer Tools for Windows Mixed Reality”.
Press “Set as active runtime” button.

Problem is…….I don’t see any “set as active runtime” button. Will search these forums for steps, but if I’m missing something, please lmk. Thanks!!
If you have an nVidia GPU, you can add resolutions larger than your monitor supports in the nVidia control panel. For AMD your are limited to some preconfigured ones unfortunately.
The ‘Custom Resolutions’ section in the vorpX help explains step-by-step how to do that. In case of Portal 2 you normally should see an according hint in the vorpX menu whenever you try to change the resolution there to one that isn’t supported.
A typical FullVR resolution would e.g. be 1920×1440, but for older and less demanding games like Portal 2 even super crisp 3200×2400 are possible without any problems.
Oh, I see. I was also wondering if there is a way to increase the resolution of games that support direct VR scanning. I love playing Portal 2 in full VR, but the max resolution for 4:3 in 1024 by something. Is there a way to make the game clearer? Do I have to mess with the Windows resolution settings?
Hey guys. I am using VorpX after about 1 year break and nothing works as expected. I try Elder Scrolls Online, it doesn’t hook with OpenXR, needs SteamVR. This works but horrible graphic glitches / bugs / texture errors. I tried Portal, flickering, very low resolutions, screen jumping around, message box “try 4:3 resolution to avoid flickering”, I try 4:3 but same, my weapon is jumping around, textures flickering black-purple-white-black-purple-white. I try Thief 2. even though its listed as “supported” game I have no 3D at all. The game is working with my headset but I have no depth / real stereoscopic 3D at all. I try supported local profiles, I try cloud profiles, there is not a single game that works without errors / glitches / graphic bugs.
I have HP Reverb G2. nVidia RTX 3070
The Cyber Engine Tweaks part of the mod works with openxr. I changed the binding for my needs and in-game menu works well.
But the vpxCP2077 part of the mod let the game crash on launch with openxr. How can i create a log file for you of the vpxCP2077.asi and the files in the vpxCP2077 folder ?
My System:
Windows 10 Pro 21H2
Nvidia 497.29
Fresh Game Install 1.31 Steam
All Game settings reset
VR Cinema Mode deactivated
Mixed-Reality-Portal (linked to openxr)
HP Reverb G2
RTX 3080 Ti
Ryzen 7 5800x
16GB Cruical Ballastix
Gigabyte B450 Gaming X
2TB Samsung EVO 970 Plus
SteamVR works ! But openxr, via mixed reality portal crashes. Mixed reality portal is set to standard openxr runtime on my HP Reverb G2.
I would prefer to play it with the new official vorpx profile, because i have more experience with the full vorpx app. When is the release of vorpx 21.4.0 ?
It tries to load (similar screen transition as with SteamVR but with the OpenXR logo) but then it hangs/crashes with a visible black screen flicker and the WMR Portal restarts again. Then in the WMR OpenXR dev tool the “system status” tab changes from displaying all the information, configuration and extensions to this:
Exception XrResult failure [XR_ERROR_LIMIT_REACHED]
Origin: xrCreateInstance(&createInfo, instance.Put())
Same thing happens when i try to run the dev tool demo, it’s a generic error so no idea what causes it and from the link the devs found nothing from logs so hard to say what could be the problem atm. The person having the same problem started with an Acer H101 (same hmd as mine) but then tried a Reverb G2 with same results so it’s definitely not my hmd.
In contrast, when trying vorpX nothing happens in the hmd, the dev tool doesn’t changes either and vorpX just gives the “severe error” warning, then the window opens with the vorpX logo as normal but the hmd never registers anything and stays in the Cliffhouse.
Thanks for your help.
Ive send that now, i ran:
Battlefield 5 – doesnt work, just shows the loading screen in the Oculus
Battlefield 4 – works
Portal 2 – doesnt work, Opens then closes
Assassins Creed Valhalla – works
Disabled everything in background.
Thanks for the help mate,
Tried disabling everything and didn’t get anywhere. I tried Battlefield 4 and that works, I tried portal 2 and that worked once and now just closes as soon as it starts. I tried the “install hooking help” with battlefield 5 and 1 but still just shows the loading image in the oculus.
Tried disabling everything, steam overlay, origins, even ansel. i haven nothing running in background only oculus, steam or origins and vorpx. i can hear the audio but no video
Wondering if anyone can help, I have a oculus quest 2 with a 3080ti
I cant get past the loading screen on my oculus on many games, am i missing something?
I’ve tried battlefield 1, battlefield 5, portal 2 and siege. I can see a loading screen on my oculus and the games loads on the PC but doesn’t do anyyhthing else on the headset.
I’ve tried running the games in admin mode, disabled anti-viurus, disabled MSI after burner and disabled Origins overlay.
Any Help?>
try to re-install the mixed-reality-portal, and make sure that WMR is your default OpenXR runtime
I can give this a shot, but I am running on a very fresh (less than two weeks) Windows 10 installation. I have only tried a couple of games so far, so maybe I just got unlucky.
