dellrifter22Participant@haints: Installed Titanfall 2 tonight and it’s working great! Being Source engine based, the G3D is as clean as it gets and runs smooth.
I don’t know if the profile’s been updated or not, but I didn’t encounter any depth issues with oculus rift. I did image zoom out about 0.62 and use 0.40 FOV Enhancement to distance the guns away from my face a bit. But 3D was spot on. I can upload my settings if you have further trouble.
The first Titan mission was pretty badass in vr. This is gonna be a fun one. For anyone here who hasn’t picked it up yet, go grab it for $5 while you can. Well worth it.
dellrifter22ParticipantWow, Prey looks great in geometry! Glad I waited.
dellrifter22ParticipantI’ll probably just do a drivers update later today and see how it goes. Still plenty of games to try.
I was testing mostly Arcade on Takodana, Yavin 4, and Tatooine. Graphics settings from Low to Ultra didn’t seem to matter.
dellrifter22ParticipantI could have made it more clear that I’ve had game optimization enabled from the start. The hint of live switching was useful, thanks. Launching the game with geometry as default seems to solve the lighting issues.
Having tested in both steam and oculus, I still get sporadic artifact flicker throughout the image (random splashes every few seconds). It’s enough to be distracting for sure, but something I could learn to ignore. I just want to know if this is normal for the profile, or if there is still some setting I need to hunt down – maybe some ini lines for comparison.
Either way, it looks pretty neat already, and there’s still decent Z3D, so Stormtroopers best watch out.
Oh, and for haints: Origin has been giving me trouble too. I have to try to launch the game some 5+ times before it actually boots =/
dellrifter22Participant@Ralf: So I’m trying out the new G3D in rift, and it is in fact working at around the 50% performance hit you mentioned. Nice.
While the geometry looks good, the lighting seems to be at constant struggle. It’s not just shadows slightly off match, I’m getting a fair amount of artifact tearing all around, and some interiors making one eye most entirely black. I mean it’s working, just not quite on the level of most your other G3D profiles, image stability wise.
Is this to be expected with the current state of Frostbite in your testing? Or have I got something wrong? I’m wondering if I need to sort driver issues or not.
I haven’t yet tried the alternate hook, but I assume that shouldn’t change the actual render method any differently. I do have game optimizations enabled, but am yet to try with steamVR. I’ll keep testing, but let me know of any hints. Thanks.
dellrifter22ParticipantYeah, Pimax seems to struggle in the communication department, but I believe they mean well. I know many backers have been hoping for vorpX compatibility. Cool if Ralf can get his hands on one.
I’m still eagerly awaiting my 8k (voodoo you lucky dog :)) and though I’m tempering my expectations of ideal performance with vorpX, I’m hoping it will provide at least a few neat experiences.
Voodoo, if you get a chance, tell us how Farm19 works out and some more of your thoughts on current vorpX with the 8k. Either here or link to youtube. Cheers man.
dellrifter22ParticipantI upped a BF1 based profile during the BFV closed alpha that had working Z3D at the time, so it should probably work.
I wonder though if instead, the new Star Wars Battlefront 2 profile would add G3D for now. I don’t have V yet to test, but if anyone has success please let us know.
dellrifter22ParticipantI had greatly hoped the new Cryengine Prey profile could grant my summer favorite – War of Rights – some spiffy G3D. And guess what… it does!!😃
Super happy about this. It runs a bit heavy, but the first person body animations are looking great, and the main-eye sight aiming is much better.
Will be updating the cloud profile soon, just wanted to share the excitement. 19.1 is rocking so far, thanks again. Now to try some Star Wars!
dellrifter22ParticipantI learned a long time ago not to mess with res scaling, so I leave that at 100% and try all AA settings.
I learned it wasn’t necessarily Z-buffer related, as the smear happened with 3D off. It happens when moving the mouse.
Turns out it was the new Tracking Prediction setting in vorpX, meant to handle motion smoothing I gather. As soon as turned that off all artifacting was gone.
I’ve been leery to update the necessary graphics drivers for steam motion smoothing (and previous related vorpX), as things were already working so well. I also thought it was steamVR exclusive tech so am puzzled to see this setting for use in my Rift.
What is your opinion of the new smoothing with vorpX? Does it improve performance significantly? Does it work for rift/windows hmds? Does it introduce any problems?
Anyway, that’s been my only hiccup with 19.1 so far, glad to have solved it to a degree. Still lots more to test :)
dellrifter22ParticipantI can confirm that both hook methods are working here for me too. I’ve been playing ACOddy a lot this week so I was eager to test this report.
There is something fishy about Z3D rendering in both Odyssey and Origins using Rift in 19.1. Some type of Z-buffer artifacting that is appearant even on the loading screens. In game it has a stuttering smear effect.
Rebooting did not resolve, though I don’t get this problem using my Pimax4k with steamVR.
I do have “optimize game settings” disabled to keep my own ini values, but his wasn’t a problem before 19.1.
The few other Z3D games I’ve tested so far (Ghost Recon wildlands, Hunter call of the wild, War of Rights) still seem ok in rift, but those AC games are both affected. I’ll do more testing.
dellrifter22ParticipantI have yet to check with 19.1, but when I checked the updated RE7 profile before Christmas I could confirm that split hands were fixed, but the weapons were not. My guess was it may have to be done on a per model basis.
I’ll check again later. At least for now the hands/arms are better.
dellrifter22ParticipantA couple of these games are deep discount on Origin now through Jan29th. Mass Effect Andromeda and Star Wars Battlefront 2 are each under $5.
Same goes for Dragon Age Inquisition, Titanfall 2, and most of the Battlefield games. EA must be hurtin for cash.
Good timing for profile updates, thanks Ralf. Finally off work, time to play 😁
dellrifter22ParticipantWoh, Andromeda is on sale this month for only $3.99!
Good timing Ralf, definitely checking this out.
dellrifter22ParticipantAlright! Excited to try the new G3Ds and learn more about the automated profiles system.
Thanks for the additional Z3D support as well. I can finally begin Mafia 3! Cheers.
dellrifter22ParticipantI don’t think any on that list have G3D yet. That could change tomorrow though :)
I’ve played the three marked in red with good Z3D. The dates on the Battlefront games are for the older series btw, not the new Frostbite ones.
Seems like the old 2005 Battlefront games had unofficial profiles that might have G3D, but I never installed to check.
