dellrifter22ParticipantYou have to type the name of a game at the top
dellrifter22ParticipantNormally, to get games looking right in the headset, you have to manually tweak a games default settings like: FOV, resolution, or rendered shadows etc. These are often done through editing ini files from the games directory.
The games listed in the Settings Optimizer are ones that can have that work done for you automatically, once you click apply. True this list is small in comparison, but there are several games not listed that you can find how to do similar tweaks with a bit of googling.
Stranded Deep I’ve never played, and I don’t see it listed among Vorpx games. That doesn’t mean it can’t work, but that it like other unlisted games may never have been tested. Unless it shares the same game engine as other profiles, it may display in the headset, but likely wont work with desired 3D effect.
dellrifter22ParticipantI have a dual monitor setup, and when I try to use Vorpx Desktop Viewer I get a black screen. I have to disable my second screen in Nvidia Control pannel to get it to work.
Assuming Ralf is aware of this, I’m not sure if this is intentional or fixable for multi-monitor setups.
dellrifter22ParticipantI too have enjoyed Skyrim, Fallout4, BioShock Infinate, and Metro LL, but recently I’ve been playing a lot of:
– Battlefield 1 onilne
– Star Wars Battlefront 2015 online
– theHunter Call of the Wild (Assassins Creed Unity profile)All 3 have in game FOV adjustment and good Z3D. And I’ve been playing online without a problem, no ban or disconnect.
I’ve noticed I end up choosing Z3D over G3D almost everytime, due to its agreeable shadows and faster performance – which means I can crank up the resolution and max the eyecandy.
p.s. As of a few weeks ago an update to Dying Light has unlocked native VR support again via quick file edit. It’s not perfect, but fun to check out.
dellrifter22ParticipantJust thought I’d mention here that the new game: theHunter Call of the Wild (on steam) can work pretty well Z3D in Vorpx, using the Assassins Creed Unity profile.
Strange I know, but I was happy to find a profile that worked. It also has an in-game FOV slider up to 120 which makes it easy.
If you enjoy walking through scenic forests and seeing expansive vistas, this one is worth checking out in the scale of VR. Beautiful game. Two large reserves to explore.
Add the atv dlc for some fun trail blazing too.
dellrifter22ParticipantI’ve been playing BF1 with custom resolutions working fine. Currently using a 5:4 res of 3008×2406 – a bit overkill, but it looks pretty good. If I try to go any higher res, the games menu options become unselectable, so I have to kill the game.
Mine is working in fullscreen mode in game. This could be key to your problem.
I’ve made around 20 varying custom 16:10 and 5:4 resolutions in Nvidia Control Panel, and most games see those and can accept them.
Usually vorpx is pretty good at auto setting the aspect ratio, but you can try messing in the settings by pressing the delete key in game. I think there is a 4:3 setting. otherwise, maybe try a 5:4 resolution instead.
oh and btw, I’ve been playing BF1 and SW Battlefront online for weeks now no problem. No ban or disconnect. Just for anyone who was wondering. These games look great in vorpx and utilize your hardware quite well so you can push the visuals more.
dellrifter22ParticipantTry renaming the BMS.exe or whatever it is to HL2.exe , and double click it. I think that’s how I got it to hook.
dellrifter22ParticipantFor me, those two games start minimized, so I have to click them on the desktop taskbar.
dellrifter22ParticipantCan you load the game without Vorpx?
While I was messing with resolution and fov settings I had similar problem. I had to delete the ENGINE_SETTINGS.XML, and then verify integrity of cache to get a new one.
dellrifter22ParticipantIm not having any luck starting Black Mesa on vive either. I just picked it up on the steam sale, not to be confused with the Black Mesa mod for HL2.
When I add a bms.exe profile to vorpx, the game crashes immediately on launch.
Is the Black Mesa retail version supported by VorpX?
dellrifter22ParticipantNot looking to stretch the image further down, rather shift it down with ratio locked. But…
Does vorpX not do any lens distortion compensation? or is all of that handled by SteamVR?
If it’s handled by SteamVR I can see why shifting the image down could distort it some.
Just a shame really. Letting us adjust the center would solve a lot of hud issues, and provide a more comfortable viewing experience with less eye strain and a better sense of balance.
Appreciate the explanation anyhow, and that you have tried to do this with the CV1.
dellrifter22ParticipantSounds like the same thing I was asking about here:
A way to adjust the center of focus?
@ Ralf: Are you saying moving the image up and down is impossible then? Because if not, then this should easily fix the trouble we seem to be having.
We just want a way to move the image center down some so that it is more in center with our line of sight (since our face shape doesn’t fit the HMD mask perfectly, causing our viewing angle into the lenses to be slightly low off center of the intended focus).
dellrifter22ParticipantWitcher 3 probably defaults to cinema mode because it is 3rd person game.
Push Delete key in game to open the vorpX menu. Turn Cinema mode to off if you want to play fullVR. There is also the option to change/disable 3D also. You’ll probably want to keep in on Z-Normal for best results.
handy hotkeys:
Delete to open and close menu
Mousewheel click to edgepeek/zoom out
Alt+Spacebar to recenter screen
Alt+F to display frame rateMay 2, 2016 at 12:22pm in reply to: HTC Vive – Game fps always exactly half of Vive's max refresh rate #101772
dellrifter22ParticipantRalf, are you saying FluidSync caps our fps at 45? How is this helpful?
I’m having similar problem, no matter how low I put the settings in games I’ve tried, I cannot get fps above 45 in the vive. It hits 45, but never above it (and thus inducing the sub 45 black flicker).
Also I’m not getting near the performance I was with DK2 just weeks ago. Using same settings and same resolutions as before, but vive running steamvr is just not even close. Is this your experience as well? Should we expect similar frame rates between the rift and the vive?
dellrifter22ParticipantYou are probably viewing the health and safety warning that shows every time you start a game. Push xbox A, or focus your look on the bottom text for a few seconds. If you don’t see the warning text, try looking behind you. Sometimes the “front” is set before you put your headset on.
