thanks rafl, as a work around i found that when in “lounge” if i move my head close to the sensor and reset my center position, and then move back 4 feet in my room it looks better but its sill too large, probably about the same as “None” in that case, i wouldn’t mind knowing what other people are doing and how they feel about the screen size?
i have always dreamed of a modern high qaulity 4:3 screen and many home theater enthusiasts have requested that the industry make them so it’s really quite a big deal that vorpx provides this in an amazing enviroment, obviously this isnt’ the main feature of the product but its pretty good.
OculusRiftRocksParticipantYeah i did that, its the same deal, its only 1st person.
the biggest issue is aiming from cover, its too zoomed in, the majortiy os the combat comes from this viewpoint.

do you think you will implement screen distance offset to 5.00 or is there a technical limitation, i’m starting to think i am crazy as maybe everyone thinks the screen size is fine?.
OculusRiftRocksParticipantYes i wouldnt expect the game to work, just wanted to flag it to you in that it is something that could work if You could figure out what to do with these pre launcher apps that mess with VorpX’s hooking ability.
would be a great game to play as it looks bad in widescreen, but 4:3 is not good on widescreen monitors, so vorpx cinema mode would be great on this.

I would love to plaY 4:3 games and cinemascope movies in virtual cinema mode, because these look terible on my widescreen monitor, so this will be my main viewing for those aspect ratios.
OculusRiftRocksParticipantlol i tried that alreadY, i added PrinceOfPersia.exe to excluded programs, i think it launches pop.exe after it but it didn’t help.
same issue maY applY to gears of war as well.
OculusRiftRocksParticipantwhen i set games to 1286×1440 i still see some pillarboxing, maybe it should be 1288×1440, this is just a suggestion.
i do see that the vorpx menu text is significantly better in 8:9 than it is in 5:4/4:3, just shought i’d let you know.
OculusRiftRocksParticipantyes that would be perfect, i just assumed maybe windows didn’t allow that given that you suggested in the main thread to try only 8:9 or 5:4 etc.
maybe the main thread should be updated to include 1286×1440 and to not mention the old 8:9 resolutions, 1286×1440 would be the ideal resolution we should all be aiming for so i think it should be advertised more.
Jun 22, 2016 at 5:50am in reply to: Feature request:screen distance offset increase in virtual cinema mode vlc #103938OculusRiftRocksParticipantJust thought i’d update this, this applies to everything in virtual cinema mode such as games, how are people able to play games in this mode, the screen is far too big, would probably need screen offset size set to 5.00!
OculusRiftRocksParticipantwell for reason 2 you crop the sides of 5:4 more than you crop the top/bottom of 8:9.
well its only a very small amount, the pillarboxing of 8:9 that you see with zoom level 1.0 is very slight.
I hope you maybe reconsider, because this would be the ultiamte solution if it can be done, 8:9 with 2% crop top/bottom, better than 5:4 with 15% crop sides, numbers are a guess.
maybe it can be a hidden option somewhere, but its your software so your choice, but if i can’t zoom in then ill only ever do 5:4 which is a shame as its a waste of resolution and in almost all cases the HUD is better in 8:9 than 5:4 as its narrower, better to crop the top/bottom than the sides given the hud is always at the sides!
OculusRiftRocksParticipantim glad this is captured at least for something to look into later, edge peek mode is good but having to use it everytime to check a health bar or map is not like it being permanently there without having to do that.
OculusRiftRocksParticipantwill this ever be fixed because rebinding the key everytime is a bit of a pain.
OculusRiftRocksParticipantwhen i pre-orded CV1 the website didnt work for me for the first 10 hours so my order came in late causing my rift to arrive next month, however a rift without vorpx is useless, so im less bothered i don’t have it now as its essentially useless to me as i have no interest in indie games or doom II.
OculusRiftRocksParticipantgreat news to hear ralf.
what did you think of the resolution upgrade, because a lot of things looked bad in the DK2 with vorpx, looking off into the distance it was like a nintendo DS screen, very jaggy lines, not pleasant.
was it lightweight like a feather, because that was something that annoyed me about the DK2.
OculusRiftRocksParticipantwell if its 2160×1200 then everything will be fine.
official news is that cresent bay also used 2 screens. so it looks like that is what the oculus rift will have.
