As I stated already, I’m ‘NOT’ using the hack in my game folder and have tried your fix but it is not working with my system. I am using the steam version of Fallout 3 GOTY. The only other option I will try is to uninstall Fallout 3 from my computer and reinstall a fresh copy. If that doesn’t work then I guess I’ll have to give up on it.

    Ralf:

I have tried to get Fallout 3 GOTY working without the D3dx9.dll in the game folder and tried applying your fix (in the past) in the optimize game section of Vorpx but it doesn’t work on my computer. I tried your fix again today without the .dll file and fallout 3 still crashes and refuses to run. I’m presently stumped as to getting this working without the hack and to get it working with Vorpx. Frustrated (along with everyone else) with Bethesda for not thinking about their Fallout 3 customers & Windows 10. Thanks again Ralf…if you have anymore suggestions I’m listening.

    Karlor:

I don’t have Windows 7 anymore. Thanks for the suggestions.

I’ve noticed G3D does do some interesting things like you say, plus even though it does look superior I find it hard to get use to due what you are describing. This is one of the main reasons why I still prefer to use Z3D, besides for the performance gain.

I’m definitely looking forward to Ralf’s new update. I’ve put over 150 hrs into Skyrim VR alone besides the 1000’s of hrs spent in 2D before VR. If it’s that much better I just may have to start a new run again…LOL!!! Can’t get enough of running around the forests and mountains…still finding things I haven’t seen before…even after all that.

Are you using Windows 10 to play? I have the GOTY edition but am unable to get it working with Vorpx due to the d3dx9.dll fix for getting Fallout 3 at least working with Windows 10.

    Hi Ralf

I have ruled out Vorpx for Oculus’s sake. I uninstalled but left the registry info intact. Then reinstalled. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply Ralf. I’ve been having many problems with my Rift lately since the current Oculus 1.19 build. This a frustrating process…since it worked perfectly up till 1.19.

I just reverted back to the older Windows 10 Pro install and am getting the same issue. I thought it was vorpx but its happening even with the Oculus software. So strange that only today the FOV problem just started…when it wasn’t there yesterday. Nothing has been added or changed on my computer…that I’m aware of.

I’ve updated my USB drivers and have the same problem…actually kind of worse. I downgraded the USB drivers to the ones provided by my MB distributor and still the same.

Anyway, I think Vorpx is ruled out as being the problem. Sorry about that…I’ve only been playing Skyrim in Vorpx lately so it was the first thing I thought as being the problem.

    Cheers!!!

Direct VR automatically sets the FOV after using ALT-L so what ever is put in manually is bypassed. Something is definitely off…with the update. Since Ralf designed Direct VR…he will need to provide the answer. Thanks anyway.

Sounds like its going to be a great update.

Hoping you add an option that will enable a user to revert to a preferred setting…or a last used setting option…or similar. Would save a bit of memory jogging if one wanted to flip back to prior workable or saved profile while testing.

Also, with what you are doing with streamlining the process…a select-able user type mode would be a nice feature. Like…a regular mode for new user’s and those who don’t want to get their feet wet (and want to just play an optimized game)…and an advanced mode that exposes more settings that tweeker’s want to access for more control.

    Keep up the great work!!

“And last but not least there is one that isn’t actually officially supported for various reasons: Descent/Descent II with the fan-made OpenGL port D2X-XL. Probably my all-time favorite shooter game. Far from what one would consider perfect with vorpX, but if you are fond of 6DOF action and don’t mind the extremely outdated graphics,….”

I can definitely agree about Decent 1 & 2 (subjectively Decent 3) playing in 2D. In the mid to late 90’s they were the go to games (I remember feeling the nauseous motion sickness back then that everyone now experiences in VR…and it was also back then due to fps…as it still is now). Went through the 3DFX card movement (owned each card as they progressed) till Nvidia bought them due to poor market decisions leading to their final bankruptcy. 3DFX was the only reliable way to play the Descent series…if you were hitting 30fps you had it made. (oh yes, can’t forget to mention using my MS Sidewinder 3D Pro joystick to play with the 6DOF…was a great experience…actually still have it, but the Z-axis is very jerky…making it unusable now). Ahh…nostalgia…

Keep up the great work Ralf!!

Looking forward to seeing what you’ve done with Z3D depth (my preferred 3D due to the level of performance)…hoping Skyrim is one of those profiles. Having Skyrim in VR down-sampling from 4:3 4k @ 90fps Z3D is incredibly smooth…at least for me. Started from beginning in VR and up to lvl 21 now as a light armoured mage. Even though it’s my 5th playthru…it still feels like a brand new game again in VR. Plus, I’m still finding areas I missed in my prior playthru’s in 2D…LOL!!!

Loving Vorpx…using for mainly Skyrim presently.

Not sure if this will help…but it’ll probably help you in other ways.

I totally agree about existing older games use with vorpx vr…the ones that work at least. Totally breathes new life into each of those games…and seeing them on a 3D level that simulates what we see for real makes it all the more worth experiencing.

Check out ‘Voice Attack’…it’s on steam and also available as a separate download for those who don’t want to use steam. It does everything you are asking and more. Also, check out the assortment of voice packs that are available through ‘www.hcsvoicepacks.com’ for various games and other things. I use ‘Astra’ voice pack with ‘Voice Attack’ when I play Elite Dangerous in VR. Doing that makes playing ED almost like Star Trek NG…having conversations with Astra during a jump or long space flight is quite fun. Things have to be set up properly to enjoy using conversation, but one it’s done, it’s quite flawless.

    Cheers!!!

Kennysalvi, I’m also a bit intrigued at the new Pimax…and the old Pimax as a possibility of playing games like Skyrim in VR at higher res in vorpx…knowing that Skyrim has no positional tracking. Since (as a Rift user myself) all I need presently (for games like Skyrim) is a boost in visual VR resolution…since open world games like Skyrim need that boost…but only in the open world areas!!

The new 8k version does have 2 4k screens…but…they are doing some driver/hardware level magic that flips 4k between each lens at a high framerate…thus tricking the brain into thinking it is seeing a higher resolution. So in actual fact it’s not really showing or processing 8k imagery…it’s still 4k…or what they are calling 4k/8k. It will be some time before we see 8k…even in 2D screen technology. Presently, the 1080 Ti can do 8k but not at a fps rate than is worth even doing…and probably only suited for desktop style graphics where fps is not an issue.

It will be interesting to see if this product can do what they are claiming.
