RalfKeymasterDisplaying the video on the monitor does not affect performance. Also switching off a monitor while a game is running will often have unwanted side effects these days, e.g. the game may quit when Windows detects that the monitor isn’t available anymore.
RalfKeymastervorpX can only display apps/games in the headset that run on the same GPU that the headset is connected to. On a gaming laptop the Windows desktop usually runs on the slower GPU built into the CPU, so to get the desktop viewer working on a gaming laptop you would have to entirely disable the internal GPU if possible (e.g. in the BIOS).
Most gaming laptops come with some tool that allows you to force applications to the dedicated GPU, which makes sense for less demanding games/apps that the system might run on the internal GPU normally. Won’t help with the desktop viewer, but can e.g. make sense if you intend to use vorpX with video players like VLC or MPC-HC.
Apart from the above please also check for programs on your PC that may potentially interfere with vorpX. You can find more detailed information on that in the trouble shooting guide on top of this sub-forum.
RalfKeymasterAny first person game can be played in FullVR mode. Third person games per default are usually set to immersive mode, which is what I would recommend for third person. But if you don’t mind the unusual camera movement that comes with third person games in FullVR, you can also try to play third person games in FullVR. The only games completely unsuitable for FullVR mode are games with a fixed camera, e.g. side scrollers or isometric strategy games.
As far as FullVR games are concerned that are particularly beginner’s friendly in that vorpX adjusts (almost) everything automatically, check the Good FullVR games for Beginners list.
More information regarding manually setting up games for FullVR can be found in the help that comes with vorpX. Checking The ‘Essential Hints’ section and the ‘1-2-3 Game Setup’ will allow you to set up any first person game for FullVR mode even if vorpX doesn’t adjust settings automatically.

RalfKeymasterGames are always played better with vorpX hooked. Photoshop works fine with the desktop viewer though. Like said above I spent a fair bit of time with it recently using the desktop viewer. I’m just not 100% sure whether maybe newer versions may include changes that affect vorpX since my last one is a few years old.
Rule of thumb: hooking for games, desktop viewer for desktop applications.
RalfKeymasterIf you mean the “Did You know?” tips, those are just general information. Disabling Vsync doesn’t affect the desktop viewer. It’s also not strictly required for games usually BTW, in 99% percent of cases vorpX bypasses VSync regardless whether it’s on or off. The hint is pretty much just meant for the remaining 1% where that may fail.
The desktop viewer is quite different from vorpX game profiles. It can still do some things like e.g. mouse based head tracking etc, but a lot of other things (most prominently stereo 3D), don’t work with the desktop viewer.
In general always try to run games with vorpX hooked. The desktop viewer is great for doing desktop tasks, but for games hooking the game is always better, even without 3D.
RalfKeymasterCan’t really suggest anything useful without more detailed information, sorry. Please try to launch Dishonored one or two times, and afterwards create a trouble shoot data archive in the config app. Send that to support at vorpx com. Can’t promise anything, but I’d like to check whether I can maybe spot something that you might have overlooked.

RalfKeymasterThe desktop viewer should also work fine for Photoshop, at least as far as I can tell. Incidentally I did some fairly intense Photoshop testing when I implemented the hardware cursor capturing recently. Didn’t encounter anything unusual with it other than that brushes are technically Windows cursors, making it create large amounts of insanely huge cursors (which is why it needed special attention).
Caveat: I only checked an older version, stopped upgrading when Adobe went rental only a few years ago. So, I’m not 100% sure whether maybe something has changed since then that would affect vorpX.
Totally unrelated sidenote:
While I have to admit that currently I still do most of image editing with PS – old habits die hard – I bought an Affinity Photo license a while ago out of curiosity. Can fullheartedly recommend that to anyone in search of a no-nonsense image editor and painting application. Although dirt cheap (they probably make more money with an asset store than with the software itself) in a fairly fundamental way it’s even better than Photoshop due to its largely non-destructive effects approach that e.g. let’s you draw below a blur effect with your changes getting affected by the blur above in real-time. Similar to how video compositing applications work in that respect and way more intuitive than using Photoshop’s ‘smart’ objects for similar purposes.
I’m slowly migrating over from PS, so when in a few years my trusty Creative Suite finally gets too old, that’s where I will end up image editor wise.
RalfKeymasterJust a heads-up that I will look into the game(s) next week. As always no promises though.
RalfKeymasterThere seems to be some conflict between dinput hooking mods and vorpX currently. These mods hook into functions that vorpX also hooks into. I’ll take a look at the matter. No promises though. If making them work again breaks something vital in vorpX, vorpX takes precedence.
RalfKeymasterThe ‘FullVR Right Stick Y Sensitivity’ option on the ‘Input Settings’ of the vorpX ingame menu will probably do the trick. Since the right stick usually is used for looking around, this settings makes looking up/down with the right stick slower per default. In your case however it should be set to 1.0.
RalfKeymasterYou can either restore the file in Windows Defender or reinstall vorpX. If you don’t have the installer anymore, you can get one here: https://www.vorpx.com/request-new-download/
RalfKeymaster@ Echymo: If you use Windows Defender, please try a manual Windows update check in the Windows settings. Defender falsely flagged the latest vorpX version as malicious. The issue has been resolved in the meantime by Microsoft, a manual Windows update check will get you the latest Defender definitions.
RalfKeymasterD3D12 is always Z3D currently.
May 14, 2021 at 12:02am in reply to: no roomscale on San andreas and cloude profile GTA3 (D3D8to9) – G3D (Vice City) #204033
RalfKeymasterShort update: There will be a small maintenance update in a few days that among other things re-enables the positional tracking user override.
Will also fix a more severe issue with D3D8To9 based profiles that caused pretty severe flicker under some circumstances, also affects GTA 3 and Vice City. So you might want to wait for the update before you start playing the game.
RalfKeymasterThere are two different ‘flavors’ of profiles. Full custom profiles and settings for official profiles. Once an official profile exists, you can’t replace it with earlier full profile anymore, but you can load custom settings that others made on top of the official profile.
