That works somewhat different with vorpX. The SteamVR resolution only affects vorpX’s second rendering step and is determined automatically by the game resolution set in a game’s options menu. So that’s what you want to change for a crisper image.

In some games vorpX can handle resolutions automatically by selecting a quality preset in the vorpX menu. Whenever that’s the case you see an according hint in the top/left corner of the game window as well as in the headset.

If that is not available, you can set any resolution you like manually in the game options. For FullyVR mode most of the time 4:3 resolutions are the best choice to avoid rendering pixels that never show up in the headset, for cinema/immersive screen mode widescreen resolutions are usually best.

You may want to add additional resolutions to your PC that it can not display normally:

Alyx isn’t particularly demanding compared to newer games not made for VR. More demanding PC games will still run with less FPS, with G3D typically at slightly less than half the FPS you get when running them at your monitor. vorpX has to render everything twice (once for each eye), which alone costs about half the frame rate. Also the increased FOV compared to playing on a monitor can cost frame rate. And on top of all that there is another small performance decrease (about 10%) for rendering to the headset.

So if e.g. a game runs with 100fps on your monitor, with Geometry 3D enabled in vorpX the same game will maybe run at 40fps or so.

to enhance performance consider reducing graphics details and/or switching to Z3D.

That’s what EdgePeek is for. EdgePeek temporarily zooms to a screen view, which makes using menus or watching cutscenes a lot more comfortable.

Motion controllers: right grip button click (or hold)
    Gamepad: right thumbstick click

Keep in mind is that native Quest games typically run at full 90FPS while more demanding PC games rendered in stereo 3D often run at lower framerates in vorpX. Even with the frame interpolation vorpX uses to counteract that, tracking feels somewhat snappier at full native 90FPS.

That sounds weird, both keyboard/mouse and gamepads should work fine. Are motion controllers working? You should be able to use those instead of a gamepad.

I’d agree with the general consensus here: if you want a headset mainly for vorpX, the Reverb G2 is a great choice.

Your Fallen Order video painfully reminds me that I never came around to actually play that one aside from the first five hours so when doing the profile. :)

Sehr seltsame Sache.

There is an official profile with the best possible DirectVR support available, even including automatic weapon hide. Also the .ini tweak that supposedly fixes the AI gets applied by vorpX. With a decent GPU you can easily run the game at 90FPS with high resolutions.

That would have to be handled by convexvr in the mod. vorpX’s internal controller mapper deals with that, but the vorpX modding API “just” provides a unified interface for evaluating the actually available buttons on the various VR controllers for greater flexibility on the mod side.

    @ convexvr :

If you read this: you could do that fairly easily e.g. by optionally mapping the function to a long A button press or to pressing the A buttons on both hands at the same time. The A button is also available on Vive wands. Other options would be e.g. the grip buttons or the stick buttons if not used for something else in your mod. Both are also available on Vive wands.

Sure. Your photo mode issue is not forgotten. I didn’t have a chance to check that yet though. No promises, but if I can replicate and fix the issue, I will do so before the next update.

Awesome new Sims 4 plug-in that utilizes the vorpX modding API for adding better head tracking and motion controller support:

Not sure TBH what that might be. Maybe a GPU memory problem, although that’s just a (unlikely) guess. You can check that by lowering graphics details.

If you play the 3d video in SBS format, you can switch the image input type to SBS in the vorpX menu to see it in 3D.

Sometimes that happens when you run a game windowed in the background. Games have to run in the foreground, otherwise key presses aren’t registered. Clicking into the window should help in such a case.
