    There is no way to get the edges of a single ultra wide FOV image distortion free. That’s how it works when you render wide FOVs and then just pan the view. Imagine an ultra wide angle photo printed on a huge cardboard wrapped around your head. That is essentially what you are doing and it would look pretty much the same in reality when you look around.

    Use the full VR mode to be fully in the game, which is the profile default for Borderlands 2. That way everything gets configured automatically after running the memory scan. No need to change any settings manually at all (aside from the resolution on the DirectVR page of the vorpX if you want to boost image quality).

    Hi Guys,

    I couldnt find specific Outlast 1 help so if you don’tmind I will ask here. I am real impressed how Vorpx is working for me but can’t seem to get proper full vr with the game. When I move my head the view of the game shifts from one side to the other. No real 3d view like other game. THe only way to do this is to use the mouse to change the view properly in 3d space. Has anyone managed to get proper head tracking with this game? it looks so good but this issue kind of spoils it a little.

    If I could solve this issue without using the mouse then that would be the cherry on the cake for me. There wasnt the usual head scanning/tracking option in settings (del). It was missing for this game but was there for Borderlands. I’m pretty new to this program so any help appreciated. Thanks Ralf btw!

    DirectVR is a collection of multiple features that help to make games a better experience when you play them on the headset, it is not linked to the kind of stereo 3D that is available for a game. It can take care of resolution, FOV, settings-tweaks and head tracking. Which of these four potential DirectVR options are available varies from game to game.

    Oculus Touch/Vive wands work with almost every game, that is unrelated to DirectVR. You can use the VR controllers to either emulate mouse and keyboard (freely configurable) or a gamepad.

    Games that have all four potential DirectVR features are for example the ones below, a lot more have support for at least one of the potential DirectVR features.

    Right now i’m testing this list and good results with Skyrim(DX9) and Dishonored, Direct VR works really impressive. But Borderlands Pre-Sequel Rotation: Fail, FOV: Fail, Position: OK, any magic config tipps for me?

    Ralf, you mentioned that the other Windows Mixed Reality headsets seemed to work fine, it could be the Odyssey. I happen to have a Dell Visor and did the same testing. The games hung (tested Borderlands 2 and Mass Effect Andromeda in the Desktop Viewer). I even retested with VorpX in Administrator mode for MEA.

    Observations:
    * On my last attempt I noticed the games video hung, not the desktop viewer (can move my headset around). I saw this earlier when trying to run American Truck Simulator (outside of VorpX with the VR beta). The game seemed to be running as I could hear the audio. On the monitor game window the video frozen.
    * The crash seemed to come later (minutes into the game) than I recall when I tried with the Samsung Odyssey (seconds into the game). Not sure if it matters much if they are both unplayable because you can’t play long.

    No need to import profiles from the cloud for these games. Please make a factory reset in the config app (trouble shooting page) in case you imported an outdated profile from the cloud.

    WoW is a third person game, hence it opens in cinema mode, not much point in playing a third person game in full VR mode, especially one that is so interface heavy as WoW. There is a new mode that sits in between cinema mode and full VR immersion wise in this vorpX. Switch the ‘Play Style’ to ‘Immersive Screen Mode’ to try that. Basically that’s cinema mode as immersive as possible.

    However, if you want to check how first person games work in full VR mode, I would recommend one of the games below, they work in full VR out of the box.

    Did you check the “Essential Hints” guide in the vorpX help? It explains the essential basics you have to know, e.g. what options you have if vorpX can’t automatically adjust the FOV for a game. Reading this guide really is essential (hence its name :) ).

    Apart from that I would suggest to try Direct VR games first, which do everything automatically, so you just have to push a button after entering the game. Save the ones that require manual steps for later when you know a bit better how vorpX works.

    BTW: the next vorpX version will have auto FOV for about 40 more games.

    Third person games like Diablo 3 or WoW usually start in cinema mode. You can switch to full VR mode in the vorpX menu (DEL key), but that doesn’t necessarily make much sense for every game. Diablo 3 for example has an isometric camera perspective looking down on the playfield, so it’s best best played in cinema mode. vorpX cannot change the actual game mechanics of a game.

    However, for first person games, especially those with Direct VR (like Portal 2), the experience comes quite close to native VR games. Portal 2 does not run on a virtual cinema screen with vorpX, it takes you into the game exactly like a native VR game, even including basic roomscale capabilities in that particular case.

    Good games to get started (all with Direct VR support) are listed below. Later, when you know a bit better what vorpX can and cannot do and how it works, you will also be able to bring other first person games close to that.

    It sounds like I would just have to live with the game crashing intermittently in Direct VR. Borderlands 2 has checkpoints but requires you to restart levels when you exit the game, and this quickly becomes fatiguing.

    I tried playing the game without Direct VR but the heading tracking just doesn’t feel right no matter how I set the HT sensitivity. I also notice that in Direct VR the HT controls the pitch and the right stick has no effect on the pitch. Is this related to Direct VR Position Tracking?

    Are there any suggestions for settings to better run Borderlands 2 without Direct VR?

    The best games to start with are undoubtedly those with Direct VR support. After applying Direct VR these have perfect 1:1 head tracking and perfect FOV without the need for any further setup. In *some* cases Direct VR even provides basic roomscale, i.e. you can walk around a bit more freely than with the normal vorpX positional tracking.

    In no particular order:

    My latest personal recommendation would be Half-Life 2 Episode 1, which I just recently played for two hours. Something I don’t do nearly as often as I’d like to these days. Call me heavily biased, I am for sure, but that was more fun than 99% of made for VR games. I actually ended up doing that after buying and trying a bunch of highly praised made for VR titles the same evening.

    In case someone never played HL2 Episode 1: right at the start you enter an alien fortress, which not only still looks great after all these years, it’s also a perfect-for-VR mix of shooting sequences and (easy) physics puzzles. Most importantly: all that in a highly intense atmosphere that almost inescapably sucks you into the game. Creating such an intense atmosphere is the hard part of making good single player shooters and it really makes all the difference in VR. Hard to top if you ask me.

    Similar things could be said about Bioshock, Black Mesa (Half-Life 1 remake), the Fallout games, Skyrim or – insider tip – Aliens: Colonial Marines, which may just be a mediocre shooter on the monitor, but is actually great with vorpX.

    Important side note: whenever possible play standing with Touch controllers or Vive wands!

    One last thing: not a Direct VR game, but also extremely intense (and visually great) is Resident Evil 7. I chickened out before the introduction mission was over. Good luck with that one.

    I’d like to disagree but I can’t.. I’m a new Rift owner and while I love my purchase, you are correct about the quality of the available games in general.

    I have to give Frontier props though because Elite Dangerous is masterful in VR but yes, I will be buying this software at the weekend because the idea of playing Skyrim and Borderlands 2 in VR sounds totally delicious.

    I want to play a decent MMO in VR as a matter of priority as well if anyone has any tips of what they play?! I have posted to see if anyone has got ESO going in any decent fashion so please chip in if you know anything.

    ASW (Vorpx-menu async render) setting to off even more reduces my fps.
    Best performance i encounter when Liquid Sync is off and Async render is on.
    In Borderlands 1,2,3 and Mass Effect (the ones i tested with yesterday) i see exactly the same result. If i turn Liquid sync on it gets choppy with 33-38fps and if i then also turn Async render off (directly above the liquid sync-setting) it goes down to 22-26fps.

    To turn liquid sync off made a BIG difference. It feels much more fluid, now i really enjoy Borderlands 3 (even though i have to disable the shadows in all the games because of different shadows in the two eyes), just looking around, feeling as if i was there on the moon…

    Btw, any chance to get g3d in Ryse son of Rome? The game has very nice graphics and i would die to experience it in proper 3d. Fake 3d is somehow not working? I turned it up all the way to 2.0, but i somehow do not see a difference to off. Any ideas?

    Ralph is obviously to busy to answer my questions about vsync/FXAA, which is fine to me. How is the opinion of the community? What settings do you use?
    I use FXAA wherever possible and vsync mostly on.
    What amazes me is, that even if i set vsync to off, i never ever experienced a typical vsync-tearing in any of the games i tried. But if vorpx takes the output of the game and applies it as a warped texture on the Rift, how come that i do not see tearing?

    I played a bit with the oculus debug tool and it gave me little insight in what is going on. Very interesting.
