There is an issue with current nVidia drivers that may lead to spikes like that, BTW worsened by performance measuring tools:

SteamVR got an update that lets you not just motion smooth with 1/2 the frames interpolated, but up to 5/6 frames, It actually is quite playable on an index running at 144hz, so you just need to generate 24 frames and a little overhead. Does this work with VorpX, it runs in the steamVR compositor so I would expect it to but there could be little issues.

Also really interesting is what kinds of opportunities this creates. Are there games that work in vorpx but only at very low framerates? Do any RTX games work in VorpX as G3D, especially like Quake 2 RTX? It would be amazing as a demonstration.

    hey guys.

i just heard on reddit about it, and apparently it works great, anyone has feedback on it ?

i didnt try it yet but i will for sure today, i hope it will work good and also work with vorpx, but vorpx as its own motion smoothing so i’m not sure if it will work, if it doesnt, i hope ralf will be able to allow this new motion smoothing with vorpx.

    here’s the topic

Beta Motion smoothing is insane now.

    Many thanks @dellrifter22
for the profile … !! … I was very happy about it … but unfortunately I have not yet managed to get VorpX attached … I tried the Reverb G2 …
Will try tomorrow with the Quest2, Index and Pimax 8KX …

No, all is well. The Index has a higher vertical FOV than Oculus headsets, but vorpX always defaults to the Oculus vertical FOV in FullVR mode, which is what ImageZoom 1.0 means. You don’t have to, but I’d recommend to leave it that way for the reasons explained above (FOV vs. performance vs. image sharpness).

    Ralf

When you change the ImageZoom value, you should see a message in both games that recommends to restart the game. After doing so the field of view will be corrrect again. In both games vorpX handles FOV by chnging the game’s .ini file, which requires a restart.

I’d recommend to leave the zoom at the default value though. The default zoom value corresponds to the FOV that Oculus uses for their headsets. You can use the full Index FOV instead, but then you have to run games at higher resolutions to maintain the same image sharpness. The higher FOV itself and a higher resolution both cost performance. Oculus did a pretty good job at figuring out an FOV that is high enough without sacrificing too much performance, that’s what you get with image zoom at default.

The mouse y-axis lock can be disabled on the DirectVR page of the vorpX ingame menu.

I tried setting up the game with superdepth3d, but even with msaa disabled, it doesn’t have a usable depth buffer. Maybe g3d is still possible, but I’d say it’s a long shot.

I just dont see how it could be that hard to “unlock” the camera view and make it function in 3D.. especially for the Ralphster.. I wonder if hes tried as I have a feeling if h did he could figure it out eventually.. hes worked wonders lol

Please everyone check out VPX in VR, its awesome. not all but most tables work very well in VR and pancake. Some tables even have VR rooms around them (just like FX2 VR). It really is incredible. I will help anyone out who needs it.

I have tried it! I love it but I cant get it running again.. man.. it sucks..

Hi, my father is trying to play the game with his HP Reverb G2. But he can’t because the controllers aren’t compatible. Selecting the Valve Index work the most of the buttons but some essentials like the Start button doesn’t works. The HP Reverb G2 has different controllers than WMR standard. They’re like WMR + Valve.

Hmm, it might have just been an extremely unlucky coincidence, if what this person here wrote is true:

Yes I saw that an have updated the guide with that info thanks – did you get it working ? What did you think – have only had negative feedback so far unfortunately. People with RiftS seem to be having a lot of trouble but i have played it on Quest, index and Pimax 8kX and feel like it is really good (desptie the no 3d and the UI issues).

Hi, new to vorpx here and having some issues. I have the index and windows 10. Can someone help me with the following?

I noticed that vorpx comes with 3 files (Start vorpx, configure vorpx, vorpx desktop) but do not know when to use each of them and cannot seem to find a basic guide on steps.

What do i do after launching steamvr? When do I launch the game? Also, vorpx seems to run in the background and does not appear on my taskbar so I cannot pause it. This means I have to enter windows task manager to shut it off or else it messed up games I want to play without using vorpx.

    Thanks in advance

I have tested both the Steam and the GoG version for several hours now and am confident to say that there are no crash conditions in conjunction with using vorpX. The only vorpX related crash condition was a conflict on AMD Radeon cards in some nVidia code the game uses, which apparently does something else on AMD GPUs than it does on nVidia GPUs. That has been fixed with yesterday’s update.

The best advice I can give you is resetting the profile to default in the vorpX config app, using the latest GPU drivers, not cranking everything up to max in the game’s graphics options and checking for potential conflicts with interfering background apps on your PC that also hook into games.

Just in case: if you happen to overclock anything in your PC, try with default clock rates.

    Hi guys,

I definitely have a VorpX related crash condition since the update to 21.1.1.
My Cyberpunk profile includes the following:
    – Cinema Mode, curved with ambient background, no AA
    – Custom resolution ingame wqhd 2516 x 1440, ingame settings all maxed out
    – No 3D, Crystal clear: normal
    – Removed hud scaling from default profile: Set scaling to 1:1
    – VorpX may not change any game settings (didn’t work any better with this option enabled and I prefer having full control on my own)

    My hardware scenario:
    – 3 monitors with 1920 x 1200 resolution (thus needed to use custom resolution for wqhd support)
    – Valve Index HMD
    – RTX 3090 (support for maximum raytracing and dlss on)
    – i7 5820k 6x 3,8Ghz HT 12 Threads
    – GPU no OC
    – CPU stable OC ~8% (for years already)

Now when I launch Cyberpunk it seems like I have a 30% chance that the game does not crash after displaying the CD Project Red Logo. I wasn’t able to find the root cause so far. Tried different vorpX settings, different hooking and stuff but to be honest, I just want to play and don’t want to waste my time with troubleshooting atm.

If it does not crash right before start screen, everything runs perfectly fine and I can play for hours without any issues.
The game never crashes when I reset the profile to default. I am able to setup all my preferences in this session and can also play without any issues but of course this is very annoying in front of every gaming session because after closing and restarting the game, the same issue reappears.

It most likely has something to do with my custom resolution or the VorpX PoV changes. The whole part with ingame resolution (VorpX resolution settings) was changed with this update and maybe there is some sort of bug with custom resolutions? All I know is that this issue immediately appeared right after updating to 21.1.1 and never appeared before.

The game also never crashes during startup when I am running it without VorpX.
Hope this information can help you identifying the issue.

    Kind regards,
    Sairai

This is primarily a question aimed at Ralph.
Ralph, I just got my HP Reverb G2 and it’s working great with VorpX.
    Cyberpunk 2077 looks FANTASTIC!
However one of my favorite titles: Red Dead Redemption 2 is hooking, but it’s not displaying in 3D on either of the Z 3D settings. Would you have any thoughts on trouble shooting this particular title? I know it’s hard without your hands on the hardware.
I’ve played 60+ hours on the Valve Index with no problems, so I’m pretty sure it’s isolated to Windows new MWR drivers.
I’m at your service if there’s anything I can do to help support your product. If you would like to remote into my gaming rig, be my guest.
    Thanks!
