with the new version of vorpx quake 4 and the first prey, which use the doom3 engine, they run perfectly, but wolfestein (2009, that uses the same engine) not working: vorpx shows the phrase “attaching to wolf2.exe”, but then the game does not appear in oculus .
    what can I do?

I saw a guy play doom 2 with an omni, I’m aware there’s a version of doom 2 that uses VR (I have it), but I don’t know if it’s functional with the omni and if it’s an easy thing to get it to work with it. Additionally, I have other games I want to use vorpx with AND the omni as well, but I don’t know how the omni works in the first place (I DO want to buy one, but first I need to know how to set it up with the vorpx to play my games (both old and new)).

Well, to chime in on Skyrim with vorpx…I have to say that on my system I have it running by far the best considering it’s not designed for VR. Then again, I run Skyrim upscaled to 2880×2160, z-buffer with tweaked in game graphics to get consistent 90fps everywhere (I have almost 200hrs clocked in Skyrim VR to this moment). That said, I also have Skyrim visually modded with about 16 mods to further increase visual fidelity. Remember, Skyrim & Fallout 3 are open world games so there is much more distance in the background to see, which makes things look more pixelated and aliased. Upscaling to 4:3, 4k helps to eliminate this to some extent. On my system, I consider Skyrim the benchmark to beat…considering how far I can push the visual limits with it in vorpx. Btw, there is a mod for the gigantic hands. I don’t use it myself…I just got use to the gigantic hands.

I also have Alien Isolation with the latest mod and Doom 3 BFG VR fully possessed and yes they are very well done…considering their VR capabilities. Remember Alien Isolation was initially designed with VR capability then modded to recognize CV1 with the latest oculus SDK. Doom 3 BFG VR is probably the best VR added game visually to date. Both these games are definitely benchmarks, but to be fair voprx is providing VR to hundreds of games…and to really get the most out of voprx, one needs to experiment with the settings to find the ones personal preference to running it with each game. A new user may find it overwhelming at first to do some tweaking, that’s why Ralf has provided the latest update for us.

The latest vorpx update tries to simplify the process of just running games in VR without any tweaking. It does this quite well, but some of us have brute force systems that can go beyond the maximum auto settings for increased visual fidelity. It will run a game at what it determines to be the best overall experience for the systems capability. That may or may not be what a particular user is expecting though…which then leads to tweaking…if a system has more overhead performance. Don’t expect miracles after tweaking…unless you have HP to burn.

G3D is by far the best visual option in vorpx, but it cuts performance in half to achieve it’s goal. Games will run at 45fps (if system capable) with G3D enabled (unless fluid sync is turned off). To those who are use to 90fps, 120fps, 144fps on a 2D monitor…this can look kind of choppy. VR amplifies this greatly. That is why I myself prefer z-buffer over G3D…as it gets me 90fps for buttery smooth gameplay with a bit of sacrifice to visual 3D depth. After playing a game for a while, you don’t really see the sacrifices you made anyway. You get use to what you see and carry on with playing. It’s the limitation of the present HMD tech we all experience.

To sum it up though, try higher resolutions without AA, z-buffer for 3D for better fps, turn off fluid sync in vorpx in-game menu to get to those extra fps…and spend time tweaking (after turning off vorpx auto settings). If you find yourself screwing something up…just go back to the default settings and start tweaking over again. That’s the joy of getting things to work the way you want. It takes time but can be well worth it.

And yes, your not the only one who has thought vorpx isn’t really doing what you thought it would. It comes down to putting expectations to reality and living with the present technology as the pioneers we are…tweak, tweak and tweak again.

    1.rocket league
    2. Doom 2016
    3. Outlast 1
    4. Outlast 2 (not real geometry unfortunately)
    5. Alien isolation, until that mod came out which is way better.

Would love to know if these games run in geometry mode:
    1.Dining light
    2.dead space 1-3
    3.mass effect andromeda
    4. The evilness within 2
    5. Players unknown battleground

vorpX should be able to hook into most OpenGL games, but only for those that use a fairly old OpenGL version (to be precise the original OpenGL fixed function pipeline), there is a chance of 3D. With a few exceptions this mostly means games up to ~2005 (Doom3/Quake4 era).

For fan made mods of older games that might also apply, no harm in trying. The Quake 3 profile is a good base profile for checking unknown OpenGL games.

Just picked up Quake 3 Arena (again.. as I bought the discs years ago) because
they have an official profile with the latest VorpX.

Alas the game won’t come on at all with VorpX enabled. Wondering if the profile was screwed with to work with Doom 2016 etc and now won’t work w/ the actual game its for.

Disappointed to say the least.. I expect if it has an official profile that it should work. I’ve been using VorpX for 2+ years so know all the normal troubleshooting steps… will continue to work with it.

Which Doom are you referring to? Doom 2016 or Doom from the 90s?

Hopefully find the form or some method to actually get this.

With the arrival of new future announced VR versions for Fallout 4 and Skyrim, VR support by using Alien isolation mod, Doom3 mod and bfg edition, silent update for native Dying Light support with Cv1, and the currently developing mod For Half Life 2 VR …
The current situation makes Elder Scrolls Online now, among a few others, one of the new best candidates to play in VR using Vorpx.

The inclusion of 3D Geometry for games based on Unreal Engine 4 and Frostbite engine, would also be an improvement that Vorpx and users, shout out in this times.

I used Rising Evil’s updated profile for Dishonored 2. However the game is like frame by frame. Even the loading screen is 10x’s longer than normal. It’s about like 1 frame for every 5 seconds. In the Rift, I get the “sorry it’s taking longer than usual to load…” message and the game never loads up in it. But onscreen I see the VorpX logo and it’s unplayable of course.

So I assume it must work fine for someone if Rising Evil made 2 profiles for it and it got 4 endorsements. So I wanted to check to see what my options are for getting this working.

Since this uses a customized Tech 6 engine, should I try making a profile using the new Doom profile? But I assume that’s what Rising evil did

    Thanks for any help.

Hello Vorpxians! I am delighted to have played through Enderal for Skyrim in full Geometry 3D with Vorpx on the Pimax 4K.
It was brilliant and made other 2d games very boring!
Now I am asking you all – what are the best games to play in VR right now?
The requirements are as follows –
    1. The game has to be full geometry 3D only – anything less just doesn’t do it!
    2. The game must be a full experience – not like those silly little VR games!
    3. The game must be high rated in general, preferably first person!

    Any suggestions would be great!

P.S. I have tried Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1 and 4, Doom and others – but they are unfortunately non-geometry 3D and don’t look great or immersive enough!

    Hi Ralph

It is possible to somehow get the Serious Sam Fusion 2017 (beta) support ? I’m trying right now with the Serious Sam HD: the first encounter and is not working at all…no 3d support.

I did tried the original game Serious Sam Fusion HD TFE and works with Geometry3D but not sure how to make it work with the fusion version.

It seems that CROTEAM is going to relaunch all the serious sam games on this new FUSION version and it would be great to have the support.

Also VULCAN its being supported and it seems its getting more support gradually..are you planning to add it in the near future? Doom and other games already support it.

    THANKS!!

there is a native mod for Doom 3 now why would you use VorpX for this game?

    Does this work

    1) With Non-Steam BFG-Edition?
    2) Without Touch?

At this time,a mod is being developed that will allow all modes, including roomscale, and motion controllers…
It is a mod quite similar to doom 3 vr mod.

    Here a video:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/hlvr/

Some games like Doom 3/Doom 3 bfg,and Half Life 2,are games that soon have native support by mod,(doom 3 already works in fact),on the other hand,Fallout 4 will receive this year official native support, therefore,I prefer to lose Time in this moment, trying other adaptations with Vorpx for other games that will hardly ever have native support nor through mod at all.

Oh Ralf, you know so well the little 3D snob monsters that you’ve created.
Thanks to VorpX, I’ll likely never play another “flat” game again. Its like a drug that you can’t kick.

Whats really tearing at me however, is gnawing hope that you can create a profile for MassEffect:Andromeda. Are you done that yet by the way?? (Just kidding!)
Its the one game I’ve been dying for for so long, and the possibility of only being able to play in 2D would make me stab my eyes out and move to a mountain top. No pressure.

Anyway, I’ll be a patient little addict, and hope for the best.
Thanks for the suggestion tho on Doom. ;)
