DOOM is 2D only. It uses the OpenGL graphics API and (with a few exceptions) vorpX only can do 3D for fairly old OpenGL games. Roughly up to Quake 3 era games.

3D support for shader based OpenGL versions *may* be looked into further down the road, but that’s a lot of work and considering how few of these games exist may just as well never happen.

    What this guy did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LUEImQd-pU

seems to give the equivalent of z-buffer 3D for any of the supported games.

He recommends using Virtual Desktop instead of BigScreen – which adds £10 cost.

Ralf – how nicely would this play with the virtual cinema mode in VorpX?

In general – ignoring 3D entirely – is vorpX Virtual Cinema going to be smoother than BigScreen/VirtualDesktop/Steam Cinema?

I’ve been having problems with VorpX too lately. GTA 5 no longer works and I sent a trouble shoot report to VorpX support but got no response.

Other games (doom) dont seem to work as well either. Also on a GTX 980Ti. Think its maybe since the update. GTA 5 runs fine without VorpX but vorpX on and frame rates tank, mainly at night but this never used to happen. Resetting to Default doesent help, I tried clean reinstallations and putting graphics settings on the lowest possible. It didnt even seem to register a change.

Just tried again was getting 20 FPS in the day time down to 4 at night! Something is very wrong!

I just finished playing through Doom after getting it late, such a good game. I never had that particular error but I found it very sensitive to set up, and after the latest vorpx update it created some different errors I needed to work around. I can tell you what I did which made it work for me, but to be honest 1/3 of the time it would crash on startup for no clear reason but then would work the next 1st or 2nd time I would attempt.. even tho nothing had changed at all.

-disable any anti-virus, background game apps (like origin or uplay, etc.), disable any VPN or really any other background application in your taskbar (this seems odd but times it wouldn’t work I would close some random program and then it would work)
    -start up your vive/oculus
-start up vorpx as usual and select a Doom profile, run as ADMIN
-after vorpx is started launch Doom out of a custom profile you can make through vorpx (look this up), so it will be its own Doom vorpx specific shortcut (this I found was a crucial step, if I launched the game out of steam or whatnot without this it would basically crash), run this as ADMIN as well

It was super stupid to do all this but this was the only way I got it to run near consistently every startup. Good luck!

I only recently purchased VorpX so I can’t tell if it was working before, but when I try to start DOOM with VorpX enabled it just gives me a steam error saying that the game could not be launched, unknown error. :/

    Hi.
So i have been through every thread i can find, youtube video, and news thread on how to set this ut, and still i cant get it to work.

I wanted this for No Mans Sky, and was pumped as hell.

So i installed NMS, booted it and set up the settings as suggested.
Installed and activated VorpX, got the DOOM profile that was suggested, added NMS.exe to that profile (some time figuring that out), set the default device to Vive.
Went into NMS properties and disabled Steam overlay, and Desktop Game Theatre.
    Paused the watcher in VorpX.
    Started SteamVR.
    Unpaused the Watcher.
    Started NMS.

The game dosnt go black and starts as normal in desktop.

I got hold of a NMS graphic config on the forum here and copied that into NMS folder.
Tried it from the top again. same results.

So i read trying other supported games like GTA5, Just cause 3, and other games.
    Same results.

So i read some more and i disabled my antivirus, antispy/malware, and any other background, just steam and steamVR and vorpX left.

Same results. No black screen, nothing in Vive etc.

So im giving up soon. Just looks like VorpX wont hook into games started from steam. Also tried starting from source folder, but steam interface takes over, or game doesnt boot due to invalid info or somethings like that.

    Windows 10 Pro
    GTX Titan X
    Intel Core i7-5820K
    32GB RAM (DDR4)

PS. Also tried updating ALL drivers…… Same results.

Im glad for any suggestions. Thinking of clean install with win 10 Home.

I have a weird issue with DOOM (2016). It was working fine but it will no longer hook. I’ve tried using a new OpenGL profile and making sure it’s pointing to the correct EXE but the game just launches on desktop. Nothing in the Rift. I have tried launching from inside Steam and direct. Other games still work.

Only thing I can think of that changed was an update to DOOM on steam.

Any ideas how to troubleshoot this? I was really looking forward to trying it with 3D.

What answer do you expect on the official vorpX support forum? You don’t loose the HUD in any game, but in games where vorpX can’t scale the HUD, you will need to use vorpX’s EdgePeek function to look at parts of the HUD in screen corners. EdgePeek let’s you briefly zoom out and back by clicking the mousewheel.

The games you are interested in run as follows feature wise (G3D means “true” 3D with two cameras, Z3D means Z-Buffer 3D, which doesn’ look as good, but is a lot faster).

    1. Fallout 4: G3D/Z3D, positional tracking, FOV adjustable ingame, scalable HUD, as close it gets to a native game with injected VR.
    2. Alien Isolation: G3D/Z3D, positional tracking, FOV adjustable via ini tweak
    3. GTA V: Z3D, FOV adjustable via external tool (Flawless Widescreen)
    4. Doom: not supported, but runs in unsupported mode (2D only), FOV adjustable ingame.

And BTW: don’t believe everything you see on YouTube. I am aware of at least one recent vorpX video there where the main complaint of the “reviewer” that he talks about most of the time (no 3d) is plain and simple not true. Kind of unbelievable the whole thing. Modern times, I guess…

I was all excited when i learned about this program but after watching a couple videos that bash it im kinda on the fence about purchasing it. Mainly interested on playing GTA V, Alien, Doom 2016, and Fallout 4. Do these games run good? Do I lose the HUD? Is it worth it?

What exactly is (technically in Vorpx) limiting the games’ fps ?

I’m always getting 73-74 fps with rare Jumps to 75 … Ok, my machine sucks you’ll say but this is very unlikely because it doesn’t matter if I run Max or low Detail in e.g. Doom or Witcher 3. Even low resolutions dont help. It seems like “my” Vorpx fps Limit is 74 … not 75. This produces stutter of course. I don’t use vsync or other limiters of course. Doom runs ~200 maxed out … Even old Games with 500+++ fps are bound to 74 … not 75 …

    Thanks in advance…

A lot of games require either a mouse+keyboard input or just a controller. Since vorpx uses the headtracking by default as mouse input, sometimes the software needs manual configuration to get looking around in games to work with a controller. I believe there are 3 distinct categories :

    1) The “clever” games that can deal with the problem themselves (example:DOOM)
    – No problem, just looking around and playing with zombies.

    2) The games that can only deal with one input device at a time. (Example: Far Cry 3)
    – These games need some configuration in vorpx. Usually setting the gamepad override to NO, and changing the “headtracking as gamepad” to RELATIVE fixes the problem. Finally adjust settings on the gamepad tab in vorpx to finetune sensitivity of the “right stick” (which is now actually the headtracking).

    3) Then there is EA, and I guess some other developers, who actually shouldn’t be allowed near a computer. Their ways of coding creates problems which I haven’t been able to solve with any configuration of vorpx just yet. (Example : Battlefield 4) In this game you can change at any given moment between the kb+mouse or controller, but don’t try to use them at the same time. All kind of weird things happen to your playing character, spinning like a toll most likely. Even configuring vorpx headtracking as if it were a gamepad doesn’t solve the problem. This is where you, my fellow vorpx user friends, come into play. I have seen people play it on YouTube with vorpx and a controller. In a sitting position that is. If you’ve got it up and running with a controller right from your lazy comfy chair, please do share your wealthy knowledge, for it’ll bring peace to a lot of us.

    Warden
you never know about warden. there are rumors that warden does prevent remote process injection. this is a lie. warden can only detect malicious software. if your software injects, it’s more suspicious.
this means: vorpx should be blizzard’s +1 for more customers. getting on the vr-hype right now. but you never know if those idiots will ban your account.

WoW Does use another DirectX feature for rendering
yep, but it has got another feature

    Using WoW with VorpX
sorry for the inconvience, but i didn’t receive an authoring key from vorpx yet.
so you will have to do more work:

1.) rename your wow.exe to wow1.exe (vorpx will raise an error if not doing so)
2.) get the doom profile for vorpx. it uses opengl instead of directx.
3.) make a copy of that profile under “Local-Profiles” -> “Create a new Profile based on this one.”
4.) in the vorpx profile, click “add” and select the wow1.exe file
5.) edit config.wtf and set the following value: SET gxApi “opengl”

now you should be able to create a shortcut to wow1.exe using vorpx.
as mentioned before, it is advised to use this only on free servers.
when using newer wow versions, make sure to check “use 32 bit executable” in the battle.net client.
you will have to change the vorpx 3d-settings manually using the overlay menu.

    Hello,

I’be got my Vive yesterday and I’ve spent so far about 8 hours discovering what and how it does. First I tried some of the VR apps on Steam and then concentrated on the main reason I got it in the first place – playing older AAA games. In the past months I’ve been playing on a big 3D TV on SBS 3D (TriDef) and I had some hopes and expectations on how the games will look and behave in VR.
The result is somewhat confusing and I have faced several serious problems that I need to resolve if I’m not going to go back to the 3D TV setup. The VR experience, while problematic in many aspects, felt really promising and exciting.
As a fresh Vive user I’m overwhelmed by the complexity of the system and the multiple options that need to be tweaked – on the hardware itself as well as different software applications. So I’m afraid I’m missing important steps/points/tweaks that can make the games actually playable. And maybe I’m missing an obvious solution for them.

    1. The first problem is of course the frame rate / motion sickness. I’ve seen different solutions for the FPS problems and I’m going to experiment with them. I tried Skyrim, FO4 and Witcher 2. It seems the motion sickness is not really related to the frame rate as such. For example out of the 3 games Witcher 2 gave me the less dizziness which was completely unexpected as this game has terrible FPS even on a normal 2D playthrough. In Skyrim (and FO4) I was unable to make more than 3 steps walking or running before feeling dizzy. However I had no problems whatsoever with the killmove cutscenes that people usually complain about. So I guess my question is – what exactly causes the dizziness and how can I minimize it?

    2. I’m using ENB Boost (as injector) with Skyrim, FONV and Oblivion which allows them to run without constantly crashing. I’ve read several speculations that ENB interferes with the performance of Vorpx and if you use it you are doomed to suffer low FPS no matter what. Is this true and are any considerations about running them together in terms on setting them up?

    3. Menus and other HUD elements – impossible to see. Yes, there is the mouse-wheel solution but while you see the HUD while it is pressed there is nothing you can do with it. What I did was – press the mouse wheel, look at the option that I need to select and then trying not to move my hand or head at all release the wheel and click. This is quite annoying and what is even worse it reflects the dialogue interface of Skyrim making even talking to NPCs a tedious experience. I can’t even imagine trading with a NPC. Is there a solution for this?

    4. Direction of movement – you walk and run wherever you are looking at. This will create a lot of problems for me as I’m used to constantly looking around while my character moves. I haven’t really tried it fully in Skyrim and FO4 because of the motion sickness issue. But it makes W2 completely unplayable because Geralt keeps running against the invisible walls in this half open-world game. Because the view is quite zoomed-in it is impossible to fully asses the terrain and predict where exactly the path lies. Is it possible to have the option to look around by moving your head while not influencing the direction of movement?

    Thanks!

I have both a CV1 and a Vive (Yes I select the proper headset under ‘general’). Both work fine when I launch Skyrim, however when I launch doom 2016 or GTAV, nothing shows up on either headset at all, its as if nothing happened, I can see a smaller window running the game on my monitor.

I tried following all of the basic troubleshooting steps, including disabling anything that could interfere with the injector, cloud/local profiles, etc for each game. No matter what I do, each respective headset shows just the default steam vr or oculus home screen, its as if it doesnt even try or see the games being launched at all.

I tried to create a desktop shortcut as recommended in the basic troubleshooting steps, but I get the error message ‘please start vorpx control before using vorpx shortcuts’ when I try to run the shortcut (it creates it successfully) even though the control is running and is visible in the sys tray and works perfectly when I run/launch Skyrim.

How do I make vorpx work with anything other than Skyrim? Please advise. Thanks.
