I figured it out. It’s the sharpness setting. I believe the sharpness setting is broken/bugged for some games on this latest version of vorpx. I noticed it when firing up Far Cry 2 and attempting to turn up the sharpness. I immediately closed that out and jumped into SCCT and sure enough, turning sharpness all the way down fixed the issue. I also noticed it on DXHR the other night when switching from G3D to Z3D. I’m not sure if other games are impacted.

The Bethesda stuff works great with VorPX, currently enjoying Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas, and holding off on Fallout 4 to see what happens with the official VR mod… As for performance I just upgraded to a 1080ti which improved things quite a bit, however I’m still not getting great performance.

For instance I can run SkyrimSE with max settings at 2400×1800 and it looks great, but I still get visual stuttering even though Afterburner real-time stats show that neither CPU or GPU are hitting 100% at the time. I’ll have to do more benchmarking, but I’m assuming that brute force just isn’t enough for perfect performance, and there are some inherent bottlenecks with this mod. I’m just not sure if bumping up to an i7 7700 will provide any more performance than i’m already getting with the i5 6500…

The experience is still very enjoyable, even if perfect performance is a physical impossibility ;)

Also enjoying Bioshock Infinte (although it seems to be crashing all the time now for some reason), Resident Evil 7, Far Cry Primal, The Portal games, Deus Ex Mankind Divided.

Here’s a pic of my new rig, most people seem to get a kick out of it :)

I bought the Wearality Sky headset which gives a whooping 150degree FOV and I am using it with Riftcat and VorpX playing Crysis at 1920x1440p which is 4:3 on my Samsung Galaxy S7 with Riftcat set to 2560x1440p.

You get the WHOLE 4:3 screen while playing without having to resort to EdgePeek you can even read the whole game menus the same way. I know it’s using the phone’s sensors to do headtracking but this FOV and image quality blows the rift and vive out of the water looking up at a palm tree against the blue sky is amazing.

Get the Wearality for the 150 degree FOV. Can be used with Riftcat and VorpX. Not to mention playing IMAX 3D you see the whole big screen also without having to headtrack. I vote the Wearality the most impressive VR headset available right now.

    Hi

How far away is the phone from the lenses?

For perspective, my $50 for Vorpx has given me over 50 hours of enjoyment with the following games (and I’ve got so many more to go) ….

    Dying Light
    Fallout 4
    GTA V
    Far Cry 3
    7 Days to Die
    Morrowind
    Oblivion
    Skyrim (old and new)
    No Man’s Sky

All these games run mediocre to awesome at a beautiful 1920 x 1440 base resolution, and training has minimized my motion sickness (try standing at a waist-level keyboard and mouse tray …. maybe even walk in place while your character is walking)

Sorry you are having trouble, but as the previous poster has stated, a little tinkering and you can get pennies-per-hour of enjoyment from this product. Give it another chance, and pound the forums with questions about your specific games. We will help you get them running best we can.

So, I’m really hating the Halo’s around the meshes and think I want to try Geometry. I set most of my settings back to vanilla and am only using 2 graphics mods, Purity and the LITE version of the HD 2k textures mod. I also turned off shadows and set the foliage size to 100 (means barely any foliage at all). It looks horrid and I’m getting a super low framerate in some areas and a sub 90 in most places. I have a 980Ti that I put into OC mode as well as an i7 4790k at 4.4 GHz. Is this performance on this card normal? It runs Crysis3 in Geometry far better than Skyrim at near bare minimum settings.

So on day 1 with Rift I gave this one a try, using the game settings optimizer, which set the resolution to 1280×1024. I’ve found that I’ve been able to run most games at much higher resolution on my rig, so I went to revisit Far Cry 4, but now I cannot change the resolution. Help!

    Hi guys.

I´m a noob at VR and 2 weeks ago I got my first VR device, Oculus DK2.
So main reason to get VR is to play old games: farcry 3/4, Soma, Mirror´s Edge, Outlast and some newer titles.
With this post I want to encourage Ralph to continue your magnificent work with VorpX, I know it´s hard and people get frustrated very fast.

Many talk BS about VorpX but with time and effort when using Vorpx, you can get decent in game immersion, if you want to argue about that, use your flat TV and compare…
Of course there are bugs, but think really about that immersion, Ralph is making it all happend.
No railshooting, technology demos etc. BS, f*c* those job simulators.
Just pure games with some time real geometric 3d, let the bullets fly and blood will splash.
I love VorpX and I was suprised how well everything has worked.
I know it´s not easy to adjust games for some random casual player, but use time, use that 30 min for adjusting, read forums before you even start real gaming.
And there are many games what aren´t support but with 1-2-3 you get them work!
I think it´s not difficult to add native VR support to 3d shooters and drive games(Project Cars GOTY, wow) but big companies won´t do it, because there are too few VR users and many indie games are pure shiat.
We have to wait at least PSVR and maybe 2-3 years to CV2 and VIVE2 to get VR to the mainstream.
I´m just glad that the hardware has gone forward and sky will be the limit!
Christmas gift to my self will be CV1 :)
My All best to you Ralph and I hope Gabe Newell and some another bigshot will contact to you and give some help so you can take this to the next level.
I know there are lots of people who think like I do.
Btw, this is not a payed advertisement to Ralph, I´m only full of people who complain for not doing adjustments right!

    HeadSet: Oculus DK2

I have tried everything I can muster from forum advice but I can’t get it to hook
    Ive tried:
    Disabling overlay.
    Going in offline.
The above at the same time.
Going into windowed, fullscreen, and borderless along with every form of vsync.
Creating a shortcut for both executables.
    Starting as admin.
    All firmwares to current.
Pausing watcher, resuming watcher in game.
Disabling all unnecessary software including virus scanners, Razer Synapse, and Nvidia’s VC software.

I can get VorpX to hook with many other games, but not this one. Even Farcry, and other Uplay shooters seem to work.

I’d smuggle a non-native monkey across enemy fire and barbed wire if they could help me get this running again. This had to be my prime motivation behind buying the Oculus when it worked with Beta versions of Rainbow Six. I have a feeling this topic will be hit quite a few times for updates on this no longer working option. Any tips anyone?

    All right thanks,

Another thing about zoomed in issue which i have been trying to solve it for so long.

So far, Game menu is still extremely zoomed-in with full vr mode (Non-virtual cinema mode).

But During gameplay, it seems to work fine such as far cry 3, outlast and l4d2( not supported but able to tweak fov by console).

Other few multiplayer games such as battlefield 4 doesn’t seems to work when i set it in game setting optimizer. I don’t know about rift users, they seems to work judging from their youtube videos.

Really at the end of choices. Could use some help thanks. If all fails, i might consider reformatting. But again, that could be pointless, if nothing could change at all.

    Hi everyone,

I’m a htc vive user here and facing issues with vorpX.

    1) Settings not saved: I don’t know if this only happens to me or not. But i noticed my in-game vorpX menu is not saved at all. For example, i change to virtual camera mode and next time i boot up my game again. it revert back to non-virtual camera mode.
Not only this, i face issues in game setting optimizer as well. I can’t seem to change the fov as well (default:120) and will keep reverting back to default as well even through i click optimize settings and apply & close, no effect.

    2) Zoomed in issue: This is common to newbies, i fully aware i have to set the fov higher or something or i will face this issue. But however it doesn’t help at all. I set fov to 120 or maybe higher in game setting optimizer and nothing have changed, not only that it will keep reverting to default 120 as i mentioned in point 1. All games such as battlefield 4 and outlast are affected.

    3) Game compatibility issue: i don’t know if i the only one who face this. But i noticed games that ran higher than dx9 will not work and won’t boot up with vorpX. They will display on your monitor instead of your HMD. For example, i change dx11 to dx9 settings in far cry 3 and surprisingly it booted up with vorpx. But for games such as team fortress 2 it doesn’t even start at all.

Please help, i have spent around 2 days or so but couldn’t get around this problem. I a newbie and have much to learn. The only solution so far i thought of is to reinstall but i fear that my key might not work again that have sent to me via email.

    Hi everyone,

I changed to virtual camera mode. It worked fine at all, i still left a couple of problems.

    1) Non-Virtual camera mode doesn’t seems to work for me. I still have the issue where my screen is zoomed in and i noticed that the screen are slightly raise up around 5-15 deg when i image zoom out. I aware you have to change FOV to avoid this, but it still doesn’t help when i set it in game optimizer settings. The settings would still revert back to its original settings for example fov 120 again.

    2) Game compatiblity: Some games i noticed doesn’t work well for example far cry 3 and team fortress 2. What i meant is they didn’t start up with vorpX, they straight away display it on my monitor instead of my vive.

Any solution would be helpful, I still a newbie to vorpX and have much to learn.

    Thanks

Personally I feel like it was well worth it overall. I think a lot of what determi es people’s satisfaction is managing expectations. I k ew going in that it was going to be a lot of work and a lot of tinkering. After about a week and a half and finally gaining some experience using the utility I feel much more confident in my ability to use the program to it’s strengths.

At the outset, what would take me half a day to set up vorpx with a particular game now takes me maybe an hour tops. And if it doesn’t work I’m at least satisfied that theres nothing else I can do and that the vall at that point os in Vorpx’s court. At that point all you can do is wait for further updates and hope that whatever game your trying to run gets better support.

Going in, my main goals were to get Dying Light, Skyrim, Stalker (call of pripyat), Alien Isololation, and to a lesser extent Far Cry 4/Blood Dragon working in VR.

Of those I’ve got the 2 working perfectly, Alien near perfect (lighting glitch in one eye), Far Cry working in Z3D, but so far Dying Light is the only complete failure.

But in my eyes, 2.8 out of 4 of my primary titles working as I’d hoped ain’t bad. So I’m pretty happy with my results, now I’m kind of just hoping for a breakthrough with Dying Light.

Overall though I just think that anyone expecting this to be a magical solution to adding VR to old games out of the box is setting themselves up for disappointment.
