A lot of games require either a mouse+keyboard input or just a controller. Since vorpx uses the headtracking by default as mouse input, sometimes the software needs manual configuration to get looking around in games to work with a controller. I believe there are 3 distinct categories :

    1) The “clever” games that can deal with the problem themselves (example:DOOM)
    – No problem, just looking around and playing with zombies.

    2) The games that can only deal with one input device at a time. (Example: Far Cry 3)
    – These games need some configuration in vorpx. Usually setting the gamepad override to NO, and changing the “headtracking as gamepad” to RELATIVE fixes the problem. Finally adjust settings on the gamepad tab in vorpx to finetune sensitivity of the “right stick” (which is now actually the headtracking).

    3) Then there is EA, and I guess some other developers, who actually shouldn’t be allowed near a computer. Their ways of coding creates problems which I haven’t been able to solve with any configuration of vorpx just yet. (Example : Battlefield 4) In this game you can change at any given moment between the kb+mouse or controller, but don’t try to use them at the same time. All kind of weird things happen to your playing character, spinning like a toll most likely. Even configuring vorpx headtracking as if it were a gamepad doesn’t solve the problem. This is where you, my fellow vorpx user friends, come into play. I have seen people play it on YouTube with vorpx and a controller. In a sitting position that is. If you’ve got it up and running with a controller right from your lazy comfy chair, please do share your wealthy knowledge, for it’ll bring peace to a lot of us.

I changed the Device to vive. I did not see this on my first few attempts at getting the vorpx software to work. I have 3 games to test. Far cry 3: Blood Dragon, Metro: Last Light and Arma 3.

No dice on any of them. I have gotten last light to load but my frames are 20 because I’m running on my monitor and headset at the same time….

I tried to enter the options to lower the graphics but the FOV was like 20 and I could not read or mouse over to any settings. It took me a while to even click over to options…

    Hi,

I just got up and running with the Oculus Rift CV1 which so far works only with the stuff in the Oculus store – Lucky’s Tale and Elite.

I purchased VorpX the other day because I want to play the Far Cry games on the Oculus. I have tried Far Cry 3, 4 and Primal, as well as GTA5, but nothing works so far.

The issue is that although the VorpX watcher agent runs hapilly in the system tray but otherwise does nothing. It doesn’t seem to hook into or affect any games at all. When I start a game, it just runs on my monitor as usual. When I put the Rift on, all I see is the white grid room with a message. Usually the message says either:

    (a) Please wait.
    (b) The file farcry***.dll is taking a long time to load. Please wait.

The game I launch continues to play as normal on my monitor. I have closed all other apps, and I don’t have any AntiVirus software installed. I tried DX9 and DX10 modes in games. Still nothing happens.

    Machine spec is as follows:

      Intel Core i7 6950X
2 x nVidia 1080 Founders edition (in SLI)
      M.2 SSD for boot
WD Black HDD where the games are installed (custom path)
      Asus 4K G-Sync Monitor
      Windows 7 x64 (Sorry, I hate Windows 10!)
Latest version of Oculus and VorpX

I have some dumb noob questions to start with:

    1. Am I supposed to only run the VorpX watcher and start the game as normal? Or should I do something else to invoke it?

    2. Am I supposed to drop my screen resolution to match the Rift, from 4K to HD?

    3. Do I need to wear the Rift before launching the game?

    4. Is something supposed to appear in the Oculus library/window? Or perhaps in the Rift virtual library?

    5. Is it because I have SLI?

    6. Is it because I have a 4K monitor?

    7. Is it because I like Windows 7? :)

    8. Is it because I installed the games in a custom path? I read something about creating a VorpX shortcut. Do I need to do that?

I would really appreciate any help. I spent rather a lot of money on everything :)

    Many thanks,
    Dave

Silly question here and i’m sure i’ll get smacked down for even asking.. but i own an Oculus DK1 and DK2 and have logged countless hours on it. I recently also played Battlezone and Eve on the new PS4 VR this past weekend. I want to see just what is possible with a “REAL” system.. i’m talking 1070, or 1080 or dual of these with a consumer version Oculus or HTC Vive.. or even the OSVR HK2. And i want to see it running a real game like Skyrim or Farcry Primal etc. Any chance anyone in the Jacksonville Florida area would be willing to hook me up on that experience or point me to the closest place i might be able to find that without plunking down a crazy amount of money.

If the FOV still isn’t 100% correct, please either use a slightly higher value in the .ini or compensate for the rest in the vorpX ingame menu by adjusting the ImageZoom value (image page).

3D: Far Cry 4 “only” has Z-Buffer 3D, which provides less depth for foreground objects (not in the distance though), but is a lot faster than Geometry 3D, which renders everything twice.

For better image quality, please choose another resolution. The resolution that utilizes the max. amount of pixels on your headset would be 1920×1440. Just keep an eye on performance ([ALT][F]). You need to maintain 45fps+ at all times for a pleasent experience.

As with all games you have to adjust the field of view for a proper looking image, otherwise it looks zoomed in.

For Far Cry the Game Optimizer should be able to take care of that, but if that fails for you, you can also do it manually. The optimizer only can work correctly for this game if there is only one Far Cry 4 player profile, so that might be the issue.

The second option would be to use the quick and dirty general setup from the vorpX help (“The 1-2-3 Game Setup”).

The below steps are the better solution though:

    1. Navigate to: [Documents]\My Games\Far Cry 4\[Profile Dir]
    2. Open GamerProfile.xml with a text editor
    3. Search for “FOVScaleFactor”
    4. Change the value to 1.81 (Rift DK2, Vive) or 1.67 (Rift CV1)

I have set up Far Cry 4 with VorpX Optimized settings, But all I get is a blown up crappy looking screen of the game I can look around in, it seems like it’s trying to do VR but looks way to zoomed in, horrible resolution and no 3D or depth no matter 3D reconstruction is on or not. I Tried another game and same deal. Is this what VorpX is suppose to look like? I thought it was going to be great like the Regular VR experiences for the Vive? But it just looks like it took the flat 2D screen and wrapped it around your head way to zoomed in. I tried zooming out to get something decent but it still looks so bad it’s not immersive at all, looks like I’m just standing really close to my TV Screen. How do I fix this? is this the way it actually shows these supported games?

I tried it with HTC Vive and its working fine!

But it needs Intel I7 6700K as minimum!!
With my I5 before i got syncloss and grey Picture after a few minutes.

I7-6700K, 32gb Ram and Geforce 980 is enough to play The devision with medium Graphics and HTC Vive.

Best working game for me is FarCry Primal. Its absolutely smooth with everything turned to high.

So far the game I have thought worked really great, with a good 3D effect and acceptable framerate and usability:

    Skyrim
    Morrowind
    STALKER games
    Farcry 3
    Fallout 4

Ive found that I am most comfortable in the virtual cinema, with the screen as close as possible, with headtracking enabled. It still feels like Im in VR, and I can always look down and check the HUD easily. I usually completely forget that I am in the cinema, and it works great for keyboard and mouse use. All of my experience is basically directed at this type of use. Here are some other games I have tried that Ive enjoyed, but have some minor drawbacks from my testing:

Outlast: This game works great, but I find that Geometry mode creates weird shadow issues, and on other 3D settings there are some minor graphical issues. Its not bad, and totally playable. on z3D modes, it seems like there could be a little more depth with the 3D slider.
Oblivion: Slow on G3D, Z3D modes dont seem to give quite enough depth that I would like. Game still looks great, and is very playable.
Portal 2: Something just does not look right in this game. Im not sure what it is, but it looked very very wrong when I tried it. I might try it again, but the first experience really put me off.

I may have forgotten some games that I have tried. So far I have been very impressed with VorpX!

This is my first attempt with VorpX so I might be missing something.

I am trying to use it with Far Cry Primal, and with an XBOX ONE gamepad.

I start VorpX then FarCry Primal, (I have already set the FOV to 120)

It starts up fine. At first I can’t move, although I think that’s just the game, as some one is talking, I can look around fine though. But after I start moving, suddenly my head tracking is inverted. So when I look to the left in real life, the game looks to the right, up is down etc. etc.

I tried going into the settings and inverting the game pad controls, but it still does it… Shortly after I stop moving in the game, my head tracking works normally again.

    What’s going on here?

hello, i’ve also purchased VorpX to use it with HTC Vive.

i’ve tried Far Cry 4 with optimized settings by the VorpX application. but i just got a plain red screen in the vive. and the game window stayed black…

    my configuration was:
gigabyte p34w laptop with nvidia gtx970m
    vive as second screen extended
    steamVR was not running

do i need to change my setup? should the screens be duplicated 1280×720? should steamVR be running? any optimus setting i have to check?

thanks and keep up the good work!

I just got my CV1 today and I’ve tried the following games with vorpX:
    -GTA V
    -Arma 3
    -Far Cry 4

Not a single one is playable. The audio is broken and laggy, the FPS are so low that I can hardly move around in the game. I’ve tried a few tweaks, even lowered the resolution but it doesn’t make sense.

I was able to play DCS World, a game arguably more demanding than usual, just fine with NO LAG and perfect audio.

    Specs:
    6600k @ 4.6Ghz
    GTX 980Ti Superclocked
    32GB DDR4
All games running from Samsung Evo SSD.

    Hi Ralf,

I’ve been having the same problem as the guys above, I haven’t fixed the problem yet however the nature of the beast has changed which will hopefully lead to a solution. Before this turns into a thesis I’d like to state that Oculus Apps, 3rd party apps (whirlwig etc), vorpx desktop viewer and video player (VLC) are working fine.

    I’m running the following:
    Windows 10 Pro 64 bit
Nvidia driver 364.72 – latest non beta.
    Oculus runtime 1.3
    Vorpx 16.1.2
    Avast Antivirus
I don’t run any other apps that hook into the games and I have ensured that Nvidia shadowplay is disabled.

Initially I was receiving the “Sorry, we’re having trouble loading vorpControl.exe.” error message however VorpX Control was still running, upon trying to launch supported titles from steam, Uplay I would receive “Sorry, we’re having trouble loading xxx.exe”.
    – VorpX was running as administrator
    – Tried disabling antivirus temporarily
    – Tried Far Cry 3 + 4 and GTA V

I completely removed VorpX and the Oculus software from my workstation, restarted and reinstalled both of them with antivirus temporarily disabled. The Vorpx behaviour was more or less the same however the game hooking was completely broken this time around (no more Sorry, we’re having trouble loading xxx.exe). Launching games via steam/uplay would result in generic error messages or time outs if Vorpx was running (installed and running with administrator rights). If I attempted to launch the game exe’s directly I would receive access denied error messages, pausing the Vorpx watcher would result in the game launching normally.

I’ve been looking through some procmon logs for clues, unfortunately I don’t have a sound understanding of what’s going on here but I noted the following:

VorpXControl.exe failed to create these files immediately.
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\Far Cry 3\bin\d3d9.dll
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\Far Cry 3\bin\dxgi.dll
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\Far Cry 3\bin\d3d11.dll
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\Far Cry 3\bin\d3d10.dll

The farycry3.exe, vorpxcontrol.exe and OculusVR.exe continue after this point. Logs end abrubtly after the initialisation of audio drivers, haven’t been able to narrow down the culprit yet. I suspect it’s Avast antivirus as it’s still got it’s finger in the pie in procmon when its supposed be disabled…

I have found that killing off Avast antivirus has resulted in games working (still takes 2-3 attempts).
