I get that $50 bucks is a lot for something you don’t use, but I also think it’s pretty naive to believe that $50 will get every none VR-game working out of the box. That said, Vorpx seems to make people either extremely satisfied or the polar opposite, which leads me to believe that something needs to be done about their messaging and how the app is presented to potential costumers, before they buy it. There should probably be a pretty big work-in-progress disclaimer, if there isn’t one already.

I personally think it’s money well spent and then some. Eventhough I haven’t actually really played any games with it yet, it’s been extremely entertaining to see some of my favorite game worlds realized in virtual reality. Vorpx isn’t for everyone and you probably need to be a tinkerer by heart and pretty resistant to motion-sickness to fully enjoy it.

Today I fired up a tried and true vorpx game after many months of not using and its like I have to learn it all over again. I even remembered all the little quirks that I am required to do to get it working (i.e. disabling 3D Vision etc) and still when I fired up the game it came up in the headset in the top corner and I was unable to do anything.

And you know what? Rather than start up with the whole process or game of “how to get vorpX working again” I just said fuck it. And so it begins again.. having to turn off the game, disable vorp X, restart Oculus service, restart the game, reset and figure out the proper resolution settings, then restart everything again.

Put resolutions and what not in profiles so start up when you inject vorpX. For $50 there is just TOO MUCH headache and time sink.

I should have wrote up an entire log of everything that you have to do get this damn working after I first got it. It was worth it then…. coming back a few months later, honestly I just can’t be bothered to start jumping through all the hoops again. And honestly for the amount of games/profiles that have proper 3D I think for $50 bucks get on the fucking ball already and get it working as it should. Yeah yeah “you have to get it to work” there’s a point where it just turns into too much busy work. I remember the last “VorpX sessions” I had sitting there for hours trying to get things to work.. then you sit there once it works for a minute and you say ‘great its working’ I dont even feel like fucking playing this game anymore.

Get this shit to work like it should for $50 bucks.. stop giving us hours and hours of busywork getting it to work like it should.

Add the proper settings and resolutions to the profiles so when I start it up in vorp X after having played on my 4K screen the last time, the vorpX driver injects the proper resolution and settings so I dont have to tear out my fucking eyes barely able to see the game in the top left of the screen with no head tracking.

Just mind that what I wrote above about native gamepad use only applies to games that will work with the new Direct VR feature.

For other games that do not allow mouse and gamepad to be used together the gamepad emulation is and still will be the way to go. It works just as well and even has a few advantages (e.g. independent right stick y-axis sensitivity).

I’ve had nothing but problems getting fallout new vegas to work. First it wasn’t working at all in windows 10 so I found out I needed to download NVAC and NVSE to even get the game to load past the intro. Now everything works fine without vorpx. With vorpx, I can load my save fine but as soon as I start to look around via gamepad, mouse, or HMD, the game appears to alt tab and freeze for a few seconds. If I take off the HMD and look at my monitor I notice that the game is alt tabbed. If I navigate back to the game it works, but if I look around again the same thing happens. This makes it completely unplayable.

I’ve tried setting all the settings to low, 1280×1024 resolution, nothing seems to fix it. Has anyone else had any luck getting it up and running?

I’m running it on a 4690k with a gtx 1060 with all my drivers up-to-date on a HTC vive.

    Hi szeliga90
    Thanks for your answer.
Totally agree with you in all points.
I have already tried flyinside and it is fine, but only for prepar3d. Plus the latest prepar3d supports the Oculus. With the help of the oculus debug tool I get some pretty decent fps and image quality. Plus you can have a second window with just a 2D panel for anything extra. With voiceattack it is fantastic.
So I thought that if I could turn the stereoscopic imaging off, I would save quite a few fps.

Same goes for the DCS titles.
They have excellent support for Oculus and the flying and fighting is immersive. Also very good integration of mouse within the VR for cockpit interaction. Add voiceattack (PROPERLY TRAINED ;) and I was OK. So, no stereo imaging would be even better.

I am sure that this is a fine software — but not for my needs– unless I am missing something, or something gets improved.
The fact that the games are not supported was OK for me, as I did not want stereoscopic imaging. But it will not even hook properly.
Anyway, I only lost 37 euro; small loss compared to more important things like for example, smilling ! :)
    Cheers

    Just tried it.
At first I was quite happy as it seems the Vive doesn’t flicker when the framerate drops even to 5 fps. I would gladly let the old game run at about 30 – 40 fps for the Geometry, but there it is impossible because of the flickering.

However it seems in (unmodded) Special Edition I’m getting half the framerate I have in (heavily modded) old Skyrim.

I did everything mentioned in the readme file. And I tested both 1920 x 1440 and 1600 x 1280. There was a difference in the visual quality as is to be expected, but no difference in the framerate.

While walking between Riverwood and Whiterun with Geometry it was constantly varying between 15 and 35. It dropped to 5fps when I got to the Khajiit camp outside of the city.
The same road on the other 2 modes (Z3D) the framerate was between 30 and 40 fps. It never managed to reach 45 fps.

    My system: i7-4790, GTX 980 (4GB), 16 GB RAM

    Hi ppl !
I am a -less than 12 hours- frustrated owner of this software.
I am a flight simmer and the idea was to get control over the stereoscopic rendering (disabling it) so I get the best frame rate.
All tests in Windows 7 and fresh Win10 installations.

    – FSX (steam edition): really bad quality, choppy and crashes from time to time. Only DirectX9 (BAD).
    – Prepar3d v3: No luck whatsoever. Only shows airplane preselector.
    – DCS1.5 : Ha !!!!! Not even close
    – DCS2.0.3 : See above.

Please, if anyone can provide any tips (and prove me a moaning old fart) I will be delighted.
I honestly am just about from uninstalling and forgetting the 37 euros (total waste for me).

    Thanks in advance.

PS. I did send an e-mail to the authors requesting a trial before buying but had no luck. Maybe they should think seriously about it.

Hello to everyone! I can’t seem to get Dishonored to work properly. I can get it to load from steam just fine when Vorpx is not running, I can get it to load with Steam VR running (I am using a HTC Vive), it goes to theater mode, but vorpx not running. But if I have Vorpx running the game will not even load. I get a steam error message of:

Failed to start the game (unknown error).

I have narrowed it down to Vorpx running.

    Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

    Thanks to everyone!

    Hi, Nirvana.
I just wanted to give my two cents on the buy as there tend to be a lot of ill will towards Vorpx.
Vorpx is not for everyone. It’s for people who really want to play their games in “some king of” VR and are willing to tinker and see past a few issues. If you are the kind of person who just want to hit the play button and get a finished experience you might get disappointed.
That said I think it’s an amazing app well worth it’s price tag. Even if you don’t end up playing games with Vorpx, because of motion-sickness, stutters or bad graphics, just walking around in your favorite game worlds in geometric 3d is still an amazing ride.

Sweet, and I’ve got the day off to play with it :)

Thanks for addressing the special edition even though the original might work better. I just got sick of dealing with all of the mods to get the original looking decent, so the special edition is nice for offering improved visuals without all of the hassle :)

Wow, even at the “preliminary” stage this profile is pretty amazing. Much better than what I concocted off of the Fallout 4 one.

Is there any way to get the left analog stick on the controller to still act as a joystick instead of a binary move? Maybe I need to play around with the Partial controller override.

    Fantastic work Ralf! Thank you!

Is there anyway to get nvidia 3D vision games to display in a virtual 3D desktop mode on the Rift?

What about games such as Trine 3 that even seems to offer native stereoscopic 3D options, including SBS? But which I can’t seem to get working in 3D using virutal desktop, bigscreen, envelop, or any of the others…

I’ve had nvidia 3D vision for years, but there didn’t seem to be anyway to get the games working on the Rift, which is what led me here. Unfortunately as pointed out here, many games require specific fixes to even work in desktop 3D mode…

I was hoping that the Rift would be a perfect display for all of my 3D vision games, but that dream was dashed very early… It’s just a pain to turn on the 3D projector, close all the curtains, and put on my 3D glasses just to play a game for a couple minutes…

i thougth the same when i’ve got the vive, but the quality you get on a monitor with 3dvision is too far from what you get on the current hmd, imho if your goal is only play 3d i would stick with monitor/projector at least until next hmd that hopefully will have doubled resolution..
By the way nvidia is moving on vr too, let’s see what will happen..

I agree, most users starting with vorpx, have trouble learning curve.
I can even see myself in the mirror when I read some comments, remembering when I started using the program.

The only problem with this is that some users, a completely erroneous vorpx what is capable in many cases printing, and final experience that may offer take, once you set properly for each game. Very different.

Sometimes, something as simple as a compromise between resolution, aspect ratio, Fov to avoid an image “eyeless fish/crystal ball” and no black band in pixel 1:1 except very specific cases, they are often a slope up for the general public.

I hope that the next update could significantly help here, and also in default native control.
    —————

I take my comment, only for a small suggestion Ralf:
-I think that some expert options or all should be active by default, for the release of the new update, for example, separation 3d (strenght)/3d fov enhancement(in G3D),whether,not always necessary to use this in all games.

-Also recently discovered,to adjust a slightly lower value,in option of positional tracking-(strenght),reduces or largely avoids some unwanted effects,in normal headtracking.
Personally,I would reduce only slightly the current value default for next update.
It is only a small associated detail, which has been obtained in my case,a more natural experience with my headtracking.
I can still get positioning, but I have reached a compromise to avoid unwanted effect on some natural movements, reducing this value only a few points.

That’s pretty much what a large part of the current update is about which will introduce a new feature that allows automatic FOV adjustment and 1:1 head tracking (for now for about 30 games) at the click of a button from within the game in a reasonably sophistcated way. Like the Game Settings Optimizer this FOV calculation takes a game’s resolution and aspect ratio into account, but in addition to that also vorpX settings like image zoom, letterbox modes etc. In short: real time adjustable, perfect FOV under almost all circumstances.

There are limits to such things though. This will never work for every game and since it relies on hacking a game’s memory directly, new potential sources of error come with it. It will still be a great thing in many cases.

TBH I don’t think vorpX in general is that hard to get. The two really important things one needs to understand as a new user are that FOV and head tracking have to be adjusted once for every game and what options vorpX offers in this regard.

For a considerably large number of games (about 30 for now) that will become even easier with the next update.
