Thanks for the suggestion dellrifter22, but unfortunately neither profile seems to hook to MechWarrior 5.
I don’t understand why Reshade Depth3D can do perfect G3D and no VorpX cloud profile can do this ! ?
As dellrifter22 wrote, Depth3D is only Z3D. But at least it works, I didn’t get any VorpX profile to work even in Z3D.
Is there a possibility to use Vorpx for Side by Side like with 3D films … ??
Last time I tried, VorpX and Depth3D don’t work together.
I used VorpX about 6 months ago and it worked fine. I’ve tried reinstalling it recently, I requested a new download, reregistered it and everything went okay. I uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted my machine, and added exceptions to AVG, but I still get this error:
“The config app seems to be missing. If the problem persists, reinstalling vorpX might help.”
I even disabled AVG entirely to see if that was the issue, but I still get this error no matter what. I also tried clicking the alternative hooking method option. The program is actually present in my task manager, but when I click on “configure” it gives me that error.
I don’t actually have my headset yet, I bought an old Occulus Rift CV1 on ebay for super cheap, and I’m hoping to get by Friday, but I don’t think I actually need Occulus Software running to get the program to open, because I was experimenting with streaming through a GearVR headset about 6 months ago with ALVR, Driver4VR, and VorpX (which incredibly I got it to work, its just, you can’t really do anything heavy duty with it because the phone always overheats, but its still crazy that I was able to taste some VR with that setup).
My last resort is to just reformat my harddrive and start from scratch. My OS is Windows 10 basic. Any ideas here?
An HMD isn’t always the better option compared to a monitor. It depends on the HMD itself, mostly the resolution, the PC hardware, whether you are susceptible to motion sickness, if you are playing competitively etc.
There are some games for which 3D on a big screen adds so much to the experience that using a monitor would be missing out. Most RPGs fall in this category, lifelike characters add a lot to the story and the interactions. Some unexpected ones like GRIS which is a 2.5D side-scroller. Various others that for some reason look like a different game in 3D, Bayonetta, Everreach and DMC5 come to mind. Colorful settings or generally great environments tend to work well in an HMD, ex. ABZU, Planet Alpha, AER: Memories of Old.
Then there are some for which 3D either doesn’t work or doesn’t add much. Many FPS titles probably fall here, especially the fast-paced ones. Classical 2D/2.5D/Isometric games with no depth information or no underlying 3D models. You would still get a big screen so it depends whether you are willing to trade in some clarity and maybe performance for that.
There are also some for which the experience takes a big hit. Controls for example, not all games play that well when you cant see the keyboard. In Ghostrunner chapters I played though with a controller took twice as much compared to the average. Then there might be performance. Even in plain 2D the VR environment will take quite a chunk of GPU time, on a 1080ti it seems to be around 20-30%. You might not be willing to trade in some quality just for the bigger screen.
Personally I only use my HMD for gaming ever since I got the G2 which has a decent resolution. But mostly because I’m currently skipping most games that don’t work well.
Just a heads-up that using this together with vorpX would have a very different effect compared to using it for a native VR game. Rendering with vorpX is a two step process where the game first always gets rendered at its own res. This mod would only affect the second step after vorpX has already processed/scaled the original image internally, which – even if it worked (unlikely) – wouldn’t really do much except costing performance.
Use vorpX’s built in sharpening instead, technically a more traditional sharpening kernel (with a twist), but works quite nicely.
I have have experimenting with CAS/FidelityFX during vorpX’s internal image processing on the radar, but can’t really tell when (or even if) that will actually happen.
Ralf, others, don’t know if anyone has noticed this yet or played with it, but an open source project has managed to get AMD FidelityFX working in SteamVR, even for games that don’t directly support it. Obviously there are some limitations currently as it is pretty early in development, but it would be very interesting to see how this plays with vorpX at some point!
I created a mod to enable AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution in SteamVR games

Here is a tip – profile is not G3D(at least for steam version, but I am certain in this particular case versions are same)
It’s a common mistake to kinda see 3D especially with head tracking since motion helps your brain tell depth of things. Ive done it myself – believing there is 3d depth when there is none, but now I cant fool myself as easily. You can check it yourself – turn off headtracking, switch to immersive screen and look away from screen, then open vorpx menu (this way it wont be over game screen) then switch between z3d, g3d and off and you will see no difference. When depth is there there is no doubt, you dont have to kinda see it, because it jumps at you. Game start is in a hotel room and you get to hotel corridor and corridors are one of best things to test depth – you see it clearly when there is one.
I wanted to find a unity profile that would actually work (even if just z3d) and Ive tried all unity 2017 (that game uses) profiles from other games of same unity version and none had any depth. Best I could achieve is having main menu background and mouse on a separate plane. Whats more game has 0 graphic options, cant adjust fov or anything and there are no 3rd party apps to hax for unity like universal unreal unlocker is for ue games, no config files. So it makes adjusting a game even harder.
Anyways Im quite tired of trying like a hundred profiles with absolutely no success so far, so only advice I have for you is to make absolutely sure there is actual depth in game, people have been fooled many times including me (good example is doom 2016 that people were sure had 3d, while even Ralf said it just seemed so)
Can’t seem to get it to work properly using either the CP77 or RDR2 profiles. It takes 2 minutes to even start and then runs without geometry 3D. I’m pretty new to vorpx but I can’t see what I’m doing differently to you guys.
It’s playable at least for now.
I can’t really say anything else than what I said above alraedy: in G3D profiles the base settings are dialed in to provide up to five times the realistic 3D-Strength for those who want a dollhouse effect. Base parameters are typically dialed in so that the default 1.0 provides realistic 3D, by raising the strength you can get five times more if you want, corresponding to the inter-eye-distance of a respectable hammerhead shark.
No native VR-game lets you do something even remotely like that. vorpX does, although this is not really what it is supposed or meant to do. On an admittedly slightly annoyed sounding sidenote [insert rolling eyes here]: sometimes I wonder if all other VR devs also are forced to have this discussioun on a regular basis considering that in contrast to vorpX they don’t offer such an option at all. Or maybe they aren’t BECAUSE there isn’t such an option in their games in the first place. I’m almost tempted to try. ;)
For Z3D that much 3D is too glitchy, hence for Z3D profiles the max. limit has to be lower unfortunately.
Seriously guys: If you want a developer (anyone actually) to answer your questions in an open and direct way, you have to accept the possiblitly that sometimes the answer may not be the one you hoped for. The alternatives are no replies at all or meaningless feelgood replies (‘Thanks! Great feedback, we have have forwarded your suggestion to the team’) as you would typically get in forums of bigger devs/publishers. They know why they do it that way, but that is not what I want for you here.
I’m having a new issue I haven’t encountered before: I’m getting Steam VR crashes when playing Cyberpunk 2077 and Greedfall consistently and repeatedly when I’m trying to spit the output to my Pimax 5K+ through vorpX. They do NOT crash when using vorpX to spit them to my generic 3D display (Steam VR is not running in this case, and therefore can’t crash.) I’m playing other titles just fine vorpX -> Pimax, including some relatively demanding ones (Outer Worlds etc.) The only difference off the top of my head (beyond those being entire different game-engines) is that I’m playing these in Virtual Cinema mode, not as full VR titles.
Things it is not: it’s not overclocking or overheating issues. My rig runs very cool and I can push both the GPU and CPU to 100% with zero stability issues under extended testing (both benchmarking and real-world.) For example, Cyberpunk 2077 routinely pegs my GPU at 98-100% usage and runs between 45-60fps with vsync on (I’m using RT on a 2080 Super) and my temps remain below 70c. CPU usage under *any* game scenario isn’t enough to even make my system blink (liquid cooled 5900x running stock frequencies as there is zero point in overclocking it at this point.) So I’ve made very, very sure that I’m running a stable configuration in terms of the hardware; it’s only when adding vorpX -> HMD that this issue appears.
Any obvious things I could be doing wrong? I’ve been wondering if it’s a vram thing, but that should maybe cause a hitch in performance, not a lockup.
Even the 3D of many “nativ” VR Games is not good enough to get the maximum immersion. For example in Asgard’s Wrath and Fallout 4 VR. It depends subjective how many hours i play in vorpx every week. I play often 4 Days a week for 4-5 hours per day, and that weakens the 3D more and more, and you don’t take that into account. I’m no hostile of vorpx, on the contrary i’m one of the biggest fans and i use it many hours every week. But I’m very impatient in the progress of vorpx and also stereoscopic gaming in general. But I’m a nice guy, and that is why I’m looking like a please guy. I exercise my constructive criticism with gentle pressure, but in a nice way. You don’t respond well to criticism either, not even if she is meant nicely. I’m not your hostile, i love your vorpx. But i want the progress of vorpx faster, because I’m impatient ! You like your Z3D like it is, thats your opinion and that’s perfectly fine. We don’t have to argue about that ! To mention that in RE8 or CP77 thread was a mistake, i also had other older game profiles in mind.
I tried launching them all again from Steam. Dear Ester still doesn’t display even after the hook helper and alternative method, but I was able to get the rest to display. They all look a bit wonky, but hopefully I can tune them.
I just redownloaded the app and burned a couple hours without being able to get a single game I want to play working. I have used Vorpx with success in the past but now it’s not working.
Here are the games I tried:
– Dear Ester: I load the profile and Vorpx tries to attach and fails after several minutes of waiting
– Gone Home: Same as Dear Ester
– Firewatch: The game loaded the first time, asked me to reboot the game, now when I start it, it tries to start, I get a black screen, then I am tossed back to Oculus Home
– Edith Finch is the only title I could get working
I loaded each profile before launching the game, tried rebooting multiple times, tried launching from desktop view, tried launching straight from the .exe.
I really just want to be able to hop in and play games. It seems like every time I redownload Vorpx I have to burn several hours before I get anything working, and even then I have to compromise on which games I play from the supported list. I have read the instructions, and followed YouTube guides to no avail. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong here? Do the titles above work for anyone out there?
Running on an RTX 3080 desktop, with the newest drivers and the newest version of Vorpx.
To be clear, my initial point about was just hoping that we might get support for formats other than SBS at some point, as it’s not uncommon for 3D displays to look better in other formats.
In my case the difference between how poor my display looks in SBS as compared to Top and Bottom means that even though vorpX has some advantages (including better performance in Z3D mode than current revisions of ReShade) I end up using SuperDepth3D instead fairly often.
Mostly VR games, flat games in Vorpx only, and Magic the Gathering just in pancake. I’m happy to play a flat game, and sometimes play out of vorpx if I’ve only got ten mins or I’m doing inventory management in a game or suchlike. Otherwise it’s HMD all the time but I only have 2 hours a day game time max anyway and mostly much less.
To the poster above, how is Gunfire Reborn? Is it g3d? I’m considering getting it on sale.
I just read this. I can fully recommend Gunfire Reborn.
As a game is incredibly fun and well balanced, it starts with certain limitations and difficulties that depending on your FPS skills you can overcome but at the same time playing well will unlock gradually weapons and abilities for your character that will make the game amazing to play.
Regarding VorpX it looks fantastic in G3D is one of the best looking ones with good depth and very fluid performance to play and enjoy. It really adds another level of visual candy to the player.
so yeah… fully recommended even on full price :)
Ok awesome – sold! Do you play full VR mode or immersive screen? I’m also wondering if you use a keyboard and mouse or a gamepad – I’m not sure I have the skill to use the KB&M while wearing my HMD.
The issue isn’t with Generic Display itself. With Full-SBS you would get the “super” image without “sampling” so there is some loss in Half-SBS, however it’s barely noticeable on a 3D screen, at 1440p you might not even be able to tell.
However when that is rendered on an HMD there is one full screen for each eye (or equivalent on a very wide screen). The VR software has to upscale the sampled halves back to the original size. This is where some aliasing is likely being introduced.
I didn’t mention the images are of the left HMD screen taken though SteamVR. The full images are here: https://imgur.com/a/dVszJSV
Now that I think about it there might also be some issues with Depth3D’s sampling. I’ll test some more with vorpX Generic Display and with a game’s built-in SBS support.
