Hmmm…
I’ve tried everything I can think of.
Upon startup I can tell it’s about to not work because even on the initial screen, the background (which is usually a bluey green) is black, and I can’t see the text to change settings.
Also, if I try to switch from G3D to off or z3d the game crashes and I get an error popup.
I might try a Vorpx uninstall/reinstall and see if that changes anything.
Hi guys , i am new to vorpx and i am struggling to understand some stuff
*i run the games using steam vr option not quest
1- i tried Resident evil 7 , the image quality is so so bad its not even acceptable to play at , cant even read texts . and i can see black borders , and it feels like just the image is following my head and not like i am in the game .
2- when i tried Black ops 3 , the aim is following the headset so i want apple to use the mouse and headset aim at the same time . how can i fix this ?
3- i cant run my quest 2 wireless using virtual desktop , i keep getting quest is not found message when i open any game
Idk if vorpx is just bad like this or i am using it wrong ?
I see, that might very well be the issue. vorpX works better if you don’t force reprojection. Either set it to off, which I think is the WMR default without the developer tools installed, or to auto, but don’t force it on. With auto you will get reprojection when you enable ‘FluidSync’ in the vorpX menu.
Typically it’s best to have the headset thread running at the full refresh rate though, which works as good as one could hope for with WMRs OpenXR implementation.
That’s actually the major advantage of OpenXR for WMR headsets in contrast to WMR over SteamVR, which was extremely finnicky in respect to game/headset syncing. Not anymore with OpenXR. Uneven framerate ratios (e.g. 70/90) or game framerates below 45fps that both were a juddery mess with WMR over SteamVR now work as intended. vorpX is designed to handle that, just didn’t work right with WMR over SteamVR.
@ Ralf :
Thanks as always for your amazing, tireless work! I hope you know how much we all appreciate you!!!
I’ve noted a problem with v21.2.0.1 with Destiny 2. I know this is not an officially supported game, so I understand if there’s not much you can do.
I am using the Quest 2. With the vorpX update, if I hit the Home button to return to Oculus menus, the game freezes. I have to restart the game to get things to work again. This is not a problem with v21.1.1.
(FYI, Destiny 2 actually works extremely well in Z3D mode, and it’s epically cool. I’ve been working on a profile I plan to eventually share if you’re interested in making it an official title.)
Thank you!!
Bryan
@ sergeant82nd : What headset do you have? The issue I can replicate here only occurs with WMR headsets. As soon as the WMR portal is running, the game has difficulties to get into foreground for some reason. This happens even without vorpX running. No quick fix for that unfortunately, requires further investigation. With other headsets AC:Odyssey and AC:Valhalla hook normally here.
@ steph12 : There still is the issue with vorpX losing access to the depth information occasionally. There was so much other stuff in this release that I didn’t have enough time to dive further into this very game specific issue. It’s still on the list though. There is a user profile in the cloud, judging from its description it has the very same issue though.
Yes sorry its AC Valhalla. Just thought it was strange I couldn’t even get the vorpx menu to come up with the default delete key. I’m not giving you a hard time I love your work!
“I still wonder what makes people so hooked with those multiplayer-only titles”
Well, I mostly play multiplayer titles exclusively. I think I’ve finished 3 single player games in my whole life.
To each their own, of course. But I’ve always leaned towards a ‘quick fix’ game.
I like COD/Halo etc. because they’re five minute matches, and you know who won and then you do it again. It helps that I have a group of around a dozen of us that have gotten together for lan nights since way back when we had 2 xboxes and 2 projectors and would play 4v4 system link. We eventually all got our own consoles and online meant we could play more. So when you have a team of guys online regularly, it’s a fun, competitive vibe.
As far as Battle Royale goes… I friggin love it. It’s so challenging, so when you win, it’s a buzz. I loved Fortnite when it first came out. But then, it was controller players only. No bots. And no ‘quick build’ setup on the controller. So people only built basic ramps etc for some cover.
Now you’re cross-playing pc players on kb/mouse, and it’s anything but a straight up gunfight. I’m not interested in having a ‘build a battle’.
I thought Blackout (the first Call Of Duty Battle Royale) was awesome. We played it exclusively (ie. didn’t touch the team death match modes for the first time ever). But again, it was fair. Console only.
I can’t stand Warzone, though. This obsession with crossplay has ruined console games. I have to play against people with a faster, more accurate input method. And to combat that, suddenly my aim assist (which used to be just that) feels like it’s aiming for me half the time. Not to mention it’s the first time ever in the history of console I’ve ever encountered cheaters.
Whereas Apex Legends is my go to for BR now. You’re only matched with console players. The aim assist is subtle. The time to kill is long, so you actually have a proper exchange in a gunfight.
So, yeah… some people love to jump on with pals and play to compete. We play everything though. Racing games. Rocket League. Sports. Old school games like Bomberman and Worms. Whatever gets you screaming at each other. :)
But 3d and VR definitely has definitely got me playing more single player stuff. Just coz it’s so immersive, though. I’d love to, and probably prefer be able to play against pals in VR, or even just in 3D on a virtual cinema screen. It’s a shame most of them won’t work because of anti cheat.
Can’t replicate any of that for the life of me. 2019 crashes on my main dev box on start currently (with or without vorpX), but I just checked 2020 and it runs as great as always. My usual test is starting a race event with full grid. Except for the start with everyone in front of me I pretty much get stable 90fps with G3D at 1440p and with roughly medium graphics details. Looks great, feels great as well.
That’s with a 3080 though, so obviously a fast machine. But on my 1080 test box the F1 games run also fairly well. Should be absolutely no problem to run these games at least with stable 45fps on a decent PC.
The only thing I can really recommend is resetting the vorpX profile to default and using either the low or medium detail presets provided by the game without adjusting anything manually. Also make sure to let vorpX audjust the game’s settings in case you disabled that.
Just an FYI on this one, Ralf
The new update seemed to (almost) fix this (F1 19… not sure about F1 20)
The problem myself and others had where the fps would drop dramatically in G3D (ie. 5-10fps) is gone, so long as I don’t use ‘direct mode async render=off’. (async off makes it slow to a crawl of 5fps or thereabouts).
There is still something funny going on with the sync to the Reverb G2 though. Because it ‘feels’ like a low frame rate even though it’s not. No matter how much I lower all the settings and resolution, I get a sort of double vision when anything’s moving. And it’s consistently like this at all resolutions and settings.
Hello friends!
I am completely new to VR. I bought a valve index a few days ago and today it finally arrived. It’s shokingly good. Halflife and Skyrim VR are absolutely stunning. But I had something else in mind before I made this decision. I wanted to play GTA5 and RDR2 in VR (and keyboard+Mouse or gamepad, I am not sure what will be better). So I bought vorpx before the headset even arrived. I installed it and I also installed opentrack. But not a single game gets hooked. I don’t get any VR experience or output in my headset. I dunno what I am doing wrong, so maybe you can help me. Please haha. I am so hyped to play RDR2. Spend over 1079€ for this haha.
Is there an idiot-proofed guide I can follow or some troubleshooting? I mean not a single game gets hooked even after choosing valve index as my main headset in the configuration menu.
I already watched 1-3 years old videos on youtube, but nothing works.
I have rtx 2070 super, 24 gigs of ram and an old cpu (i5) I want to change soon. Everything works, but the headset dont get any input from vorpx.
If Warzone had anti-cheat, it would be worth playing.
And then we couldn’t play it.
Ah, the sweet irony.
I still wonder what makes people so hooked with those multiplayer-only titles, first of all they are everything else but “long-term-fun”, not to mention that i don´t think they´re a good way of having a what i call a “relaxed gaming evening”.
All you actually do is running around in circles mostly, trying not to get killed while trying to kill others asap…hopefully before the timer runs out or the others got a higher score….oh and how could i forget about all the cheaters, making the complete experience kinda useless to begin with so i rather play with dumb bots.
I tried them all, no matter if it´s Battle-Royale-Crap, Battlefield DMs/CTF etc. etc., they all ended up with me de-installing them at having a playtime of approx. 90 Hours max, unbelievable how someone can get 1000+ hours of “pure fun”.
The same goes for co-op games of any kind, games these days are way too easy anyway so how boring could it be to complete missions with a group of players i can as well pull off on my own, especially when it´s a game with the difficulty-level not changing once co-op players have joined.
“The Path” by Tale of Tales – an interactive horror story “walking simulator” following six sisters on their way to grandma’s house, ala Little Red Riding Hood.
Uses the German game engine “Quest3D”, DX9. Profile is immersive screen mode, but just 2D, could not get 3D to work. I requested an advanced profile authoring key, will try to get it to work in 3D if possible.

Note that the first three are primarily online competitive games. These generally employ anti-cheat mechanisms that can block hooks like vorpX. Even if you manage to hook chances are you will get banned.
I forgot to mention I had admin active for vorpx due to recommendation for ACV don’t know if that makes a difference. Normally I don’t have that on. Anyway back to the point… I thought it might be the Origin/EA thing but I tested SW Jedi Fallen Order (an Origin game) and I could hook with quest 2 and obviously Rift S. I have not had any problems with any other games in vorpx or just full VR with the link quest2 and I have a lot of games. This is the only game so far(Titanfall 2) that I have not been able to hook with Q2 link. In other words Q2 link has worked in every game that I had in Rift S. I want to play in Q2 link more for the resolution buff but it’s a new headset for me and the Rift S is broken in and comfortable. I even have the G2 but it sits there idle because I hate WMR. I tried Virtual desktop a few times but I didn’t get it to work. What is Airlink?
Hey Ralf…
I know you’re hard at work on the WMR update (which I’m so pumped about, I keep checking if it’s up every few hours even though I know you said end of the week!)
But if you could have another look at this one, it would be much appreciated.
I ended up buying it on Steam even though I had it on the MS store. Mostly because of the workshop tracks etc… but also because I foolishly thought maybe it was the fact it was on the MS store that the 3d might not have been working.
It’s just such a phenomenal game.
Anyway… here’s hoping it can get working in 3d on Vorpx again at some point in the future.
