Anybody know why I get a tiny flicker of a frame out of place while playing in Full VR mode?
It is like I get a tiny flick of a previous frame while I am playing. It is not something that is a serious problem. It doesn’t prevent me from playing. It is just annoying.
It occurs with every game I play, and only when I play in full VR mode.
Is there anything I can do about it? Is it a bug?
Hello all,
I have been playing around with the settings for the 3d effect and I noticed that when you increase the strength, the images for the left and right eye are being moved inwards.
If you lock the ‘main eye’ only the image of the other eye gets moved inward.
Here’s my request: I’d like to request that we get more control over which direction those images get moved in.
I have a lazy eye that’s looking slightly too far inward (so towards my nose) so if I could have the option to set my left image/lens/eye more outward instead of inward, that would help me greatly.
In fact, it would be really cool if we could even control the positioning up or down.
In short: can we get more control (up/down + outward) over where the images are relative to eachother?
And just 5 minutes later I realized that I provided incorrect advice on one topic; it appears that Smart Smoothing does NOT work on an app-by-app basis. I had at some point turned it on as my default in PiTool and not realized it, so it was being applied automatically across all my titles. When I turned it off there it turned off in my vorpX titles as well, even when selected for that particular titles. Not a big deal since that’s so easy to turn on and off on a universal basis.
Ralf. I know us Pimax users are a tiny minority, but any chance of getting some of these settings to work some day? FFR is really nice in some titles – an almost free performance boost. (In other titles it looks awful, and in others it doesn’t work at all, but hey, it’s great when you can use it). Overall my 5K+ is a very nice HMD – I really wanted wide FOV and almost zero screen door at something at least kind of slightly resembling “consumer friendly” pricing. Gotta admit, I hadn’t really counted on needing to push 4K resolutions as an absolute minimum for a full VR title; even 2560×1440 really doesn’t cut it – the blurriness is just crazy no matter how much resolution you push. I run my few true VR titles at around 120% SteamVR SS (so over 4000 horizontal pixels) and that’s where things finally get really crisp.
Other thing that might really benefit Pimax users would be if you could figure out a way for your software not to require “Parallel Projections” enabled. That’s a huge performance drain. Easily a 20% to 25% overhead from what I’ve been reading/seeing.
Trying to get Vorpx to hook into Ys Memories of Celceta. Any help/advice? Nothing is working so far. Tried the Ys Seven profile but didn’t work…
Sorry to resurrect this old thread but still there is something i don’t get it about cloud profiles.
I’m playing Resident Evil 7
on the cloud i’ve found a resident evil 7 profile that hopefully fixes ghosting on gun on g3d.
i’ve downloaded it but i can’t use it as i’m unable to assign re7.exe to that profile because i can’t remove (even temporarly!) re7.exe from the official profile.
so basically every cloud profile that has an official profile available is unusable, what’s the point then to have user profiles if you don’t allow us to use them?
you said i can export a custom profile and do tries and then re-import, ok, but you don’t let us save a cloud profile externally if there isn’t an exe assigned, and honestly even if it was working this way it’s more complicated then it should, import profile, then save on desktop, then re-import in order to overwrite user settings from the official one?
so assuming that this cloud profile is slave from the official one and only contains user settings, what i have to do to import over the official one?
and if someone is making a shader hack job that is different from the fix you provided by default how can he use it?
am i missing something ?
I came here also to get help for Titanfall 2. I was trying to get RE2 to play using VorpX, and it took a lot of work over several days but I finally got it (only hooked “sometimes”) and the results were terrible. I eventually gave up. I read one of the official threads recommending Titanfall 2 as one of the best VorpX games. So I got the game just to use with VorpX.
It looks TERRIBLE. I couldn’t stand it for more than 30 seconds. It hooks fine “sometimes”, but the imagine is very low res and grainy, the 3d is… I dunno, just really strange, a bit distorted. It’s also very dark (it was before I went in and made the settings very bright, but I think it wasn’t really natural). So I think sometimes gotta be wrong. First Resident Evil 2, and now this which is supposed to be great.
What am I missing? I used the default VorpX profile for both btw.
Edit: Just some specs. AMD Ryzen 7 1800X. Windows 10 Ent. 16GB Ram. RTX 2080SUPER. Valve Index. Up till now, I can run everything in full settings at 4k, and all VR games (native) at full res with high frame rates (currently playing Alyx at highest settings).
Dear Ralf, make no mistake comparing Half-life Alyx with long gone Crytek’s Robinson. Robinson was a promise but it failed, on the other hand, Half-Life Alyx kept the promise and delivered the best with some control issues, but already those are the universal issues that VR technology should handle with care, as we still don’t have the best universal solution like in the good old days: Mouse and keyboard for fpv games. This era is about the be over. You provided us with a medium that can connect old with the new however, I hope you better offer a better continue for your quest and meanwhile enjoy this piece of art as things get really existing once you progress and this is one of a hell experience that all VR enthusiasts were waiting for so long. On the other hand, I understand you, because with Half-Life Alyx, Valve finally set a new bar, and even non-VR people are watching closely. Gaming is changing, and Oculus (sorry Facebook) needs to pay more attention although I really doubt whether they really care about VR or other sinister things! Regards,
As of PiTool version 1.1.258 I’ve been unable to continue using the vorpX motion smoothing functions. Figured I would post here in the Pimax thread as it is specific to Pimax. Regardless of the settings I use for a new “GPU Catalytic Function” I have ghosting and sync issues. Like many Pimax options, this function is largely undocumented, but it provides a slider which appears to offer some sort of a trade-off between GPU and CPU usage, or at the least reserves additional GPU overhead so that you can tune your system to avoid sudden valleys in performance in trade for a bit lower performance overall. This setting dramatically effects vorpX’s motion smoothing; with the slider set to 0 it *almost* works (but FPS suffers greatly), any setting above that, even 0.25, and problems compound quickly. The issue appears to me to be out-of-sync frames; where there are moments of extreme ghosting, or where it appears that I’m getting two very different frames, one in each eye. However, the Pimax version of smart smoothing (under “BrainWarp settings) does appear to work well now with vorpX, and I’ve successfully switched to it. The only problem with that method is that BrainWarp seems to aggressively try to get back to 90fps in many circumstances (more so through vorpX than native titles like Steam VR), which can cause the frame-rate to throb considerably. I ended up using Riva Statistics Tuner to limit FO3 to 46fps, so that BrainWarp gives up and stops trying to boost back to 90 and accepts 45fps (if you set Riva to 45fps you get some visual stuttering, but 46 works perfectly).
At this point I’ve only tested FO3. I’ll try to find time to test FO4 or Life is Strange 2 this weekend.
Out of curiosity I searched a bit myself yesterday and found some related papers/projects. At least one even including code and training data. Not a simple point and click solution, but if you want to invest serious time and effort it might be worth a closer look. Googling ‚2d 3d conversion movie neural network‘ should get you started.
man, i have been fighting over the last 3 hours to get half life 2 working with vorpx.
i finally got it working selecting “previous public build” hl 2 in steam half life 2 option.
what i think was messing things up is the badly implemented official VR halflife 2 mod from steam, it doesnt work at all with vorpx, and even if you disable it it still launch side by side (but without any S3D) on regular monitor with various graphical glitches and nothing in headset or not much).
i hope that will help you guys.
now it’s working great in glorious direct VR :D

well actually, i hope we’ll eventually get an official G3D profile for this game, cause my profile while totally playable, has graphical glitches and i’m too dumb to fix them with the shader editing tool.
weird enough yesterday while playing and while already having a nice 3D effect i got a gorgeous 3D effect out of nowhere, everything were rendering with incredible good looking depth unlike on a normal G3D playthrough i was getting so far, wish i could reproduce that -.-
I finally figured out G3D for the original theHunter game. Call of the Wild is a beautiful game in vorpX for sure, but I still prefer the “hunt” and animal behaviors better in Classic. For anyone else still playing this version, give this new 3D profile a shot. Game is free by the way.
theHunter Classic (G3D)

Apart from the water not looking quit right, G3D here is near flawless. Yes even shadows are correct, and it makes the scenery look beautiful.
The only real downside now is that FOV in game is limited so letterbox black bars are necessary. Forcing vorpX FOV Enhancement begins to separate distant terrain in an undesirable manner, so it could not be used effectively. In my experience however, a few minutes of playing and your mind can adjust to and ignore the bars.
– use a 16:9 resolution (2560×1440) for best FOV
At this resolution I am able to play with High settings on a 2080ti, but you may need to lower settings and to 1080p if you get stutter while looking around.
Remember to use the Free Look hotkey for better looking around with headtracking. You can also enable Positional Tracking in vorpX menu temporarily for fun with looking at animals and weapons up close. Remember to reset your view after for accurate aiming.
Adjusting the HUD settings from how they are set is not recommended, as it may affect the appearance and accuracy of scopes.
vorpX G3D Shadow Treatment can toggle off the red tracks and animal outlines if you prefer.
Animal scale may look a bit large up close relative to your hand and weapon models, but you can increase 3D strength to “shrink” the animals if you prefer. Note that this will also shrink your weapons though as well.
I haven’t tested all weapons and reserves yet, but I think most should look fine. Enjoy.
Please try a factory reset in the config app (trouble shooting page). You don’t need a cloud profile for RE7, vorpX already comes with one.
All you should have to do normally is launching vorpX and then the game. Neither SteamVR (gets started automatically if necessary) nor the vorpX config app have to be open.
If it still does not work after the factory reset, please make sure that the game runs on the same GPU that you have your headset conncted to. Gaming laptops typically have a GPU built into the CPU for less demanding tasks and a dedicated GPU for games, which probably is the one that your headset is connected to. With some luck your laptop allows to disable the integrated GPU either with a tool or in the BIOS. Doing that can prevent potential issues if a game for some reason runs on the internal GPU while the headset is connected to the external GPU.
