Hi, I bought vorpx earlier today and have been trying to get the damned thing working for more than 6 hours now and I have no idea what is wrong. I looked though the troubleshooting section, and nothing worked. When i try to start a game, sometimes it will attach or whatever and then it will just freeze during the intro bethesda logo (trying to play skyrim) and it has the vorpx logo at the bottom and i can still hear the music after it freezes for a bit but all it says is that “TESV is taking a while to load” Similar results from other so called “Supported games” I even restarted my computer, reinstalled skyrim, and reverted to the nonbeta version of oculus. I’ve tried using administrator mode, and i’ve tried looking this up online but nothing i try seems to work. I just want to play some damn video games using this accursed oculus that i got yesterday. Also, I have had trouble opening games like VRChat and Spooky’s House of Jumpscares, not sure if that is relevant but might as well add that in as well.

Hmm, not having that issue. Make sure you are using pixel 1:1, letterbox 1 or 2. Then use the zoom feature in vorpx to bring it to your headset. You can also use the immersion setting instead of the full VR one.
Here is a video of titan in game while in vorpX. My in game settings are NO full screen, detail set to High, and I am running 1440p resolution. I do not even mess with the in game FOV. I also turn the chromatic crap to 0 :).

Frame rates are not the best, depends on server load. But was getting better frame rates then most with out VR. This was using full immersion mode. I flip the windows on about half way through to show the HMD view. Oculus and vorpX of course do not like overlays, so unabble to give rtts info while in VR.

Not even I do know that list. There are a lot of user profiles in the cloud based on existing ones that were never tested here. No problem if you want to help, but if you do a list that wants to be complete and precise, please make sure it is.

On a side note: there are a lot of 2D profiles in the cloud, so I think it’s safe to say that apparently those who uploaded these profiles found them worthwile to play. No such games were ever (and will never be) mentioned as supported, of course. Your bare minimum however is not the bare minimum of everybody else.

I don’t want to linger on 2D games too long as that is obviously far from perfect, but I’m not sure if I get how you could even call anything else close to fairly well for 2D games considering the minimum standard you apparently expect from vorpX. It’s quite safe to say that even for playing in 2D vorpX is the best solution by a huge margin: 1. head tracking, 2. various options to account for missing FOV, 3. no need to force games to windowed mode, 4. direct hooking into games instead of capturing the output, 5. VR controller support, 6. automatic headset audio. I think you get the idea. I could probably come up with at least five more reasons if I contemplated about it a bit.

can you please let me know how you have set yours up as it does not look good for me, lots of warping etc ?

Yes, playing in the beginning, even the school scene is wrong. Play until you get to the crashed helicopter at night and it should be fine. Also, I got the crystal ball effect unless I set the resolution to 4:3 (1920×1440, 1600×1200 etc). I’m not sure if fov didn’t auto correct at other ratios or what, but a 4:3 made it perfect.

The lighting was perfect if you keep gamma perfectly in the middle in the game options, and set it to about .7 gamma in vorpx settings. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your super quick reply!

I added the whole folder to the exclude list (and also simply disabled the realtime/online scanner) but it does not help.

If I disable the “Watcher” and then select to start the Desktop Viewer, I get an entry in the task bar for the Desktop Viewer, however my Oculus software is not even fired up. This usually happens automatically when launching a game through shortcut or when the Watcher is enabled by starting an appropriate app.

When I enable the Watcher again, the task bar entry for the Desktop Viewer disappears immediately.

No differences at all when I start the Oculus software manually. I also dont get an entry in my Oculus library for the watcher (usually it get’s added there when not already present).

Sounds as if the profile doesn’t get loaded when the game is started.

Please try a full factory reset (config app/trouble shooting page) or alternatively an uninstall/reinstall to make sure the profile database is intact.

And just in case please check whether maybe you renamed the main .exe files for these games. That would prevent vorpX from identifying a game and thus the profile could not be loaded.

I just did some experimenting with all the AA settings both in the Skyrim menu before entering the game and the Nvidia control panel settings.

I’m kind of blown away with my findings.

Firstly, I think Nvidia has done some incredible performance improvements with their recent drivers…namely 388.43 and up. I remember on older drivers…enabling AA in the Skyrim menu would have a little bit of performance hit…but I didn’t want to loose fps so I just left AA=off.

Secondly, after enabling AA…even all the way to 8x…in the Skyrim menu, I don’t loose any fps period with my present Skyrim settings…and the aliasing is definitely reduced…getting rock solid 90fps. I am playing 2880×2160, z-buffer, liquid sync=off, custom Skyrim settings. The aliasing on distant objects is not completely eliminated but is less noticeable and more like a native VR game. I’m thinking that I may have hit the max upscale resolution that my eyes can see, with the present HMD resolution limitations. It may also be that any AA beyond 2x or 4x at 2880×2160 is not actually being applied. There is definitely some AA happening though, and the clarity is incredible. Even without the AA on, the clarity is incredible. Close objects and NPC’s have no perceivable aliasing. Walking through buildings and dungeons also shows little to no aliasing.

I wish you all could see just how good Skyrim looks on my system with the settings I have. I don’t think any other game that runs with vorpx has the capability to look or run as good as Skyrim when upscaled. I do have Oblivion also, but have not given it any time due to the FOV issue and other things.

I really wish the Metro 2033 redux series performed as well as SKyrim in vorpx. They have some incredible visuals… Oh well, will have to wait for the next level of video cards and HMD’s to get to that performance level.

Lastly, the Nvidia control panel AA settings have no effect on Skyrim on my system. Tried them all and there is no drop in performance (though if they are actually applied there would be) and no visual difference. I’m guessing it’s the resolution I’m running that is keeping the AA from being applied.

Thanks for your input PhoenixSpyder. I knew that about Alien Isolation. I will take some of your suggestions and experiment. If I can get a few titles to give me an experience like the VR mods I previously posted, this will be an alternate way of gaming time to time. I never bought Vorpx thinking it would replace my 3D Vision gaming set up. Nothing has come even close to that benchmark. The first gen of VR headsets are for us guinny pigs and I agree mod, tweak and tweak some more. This is actually why I like PC gaming, the mods and customization!

    Cheers.

As said above, such a feature will not be introduced. Thanks for your understanding. I’ll get back to you when I’m back at work in this specific case.

If you use heavily modded games, the best course of action in case of issues is to remove any mods and check whether the issue still occurs without mods. I understand that particularly for Skyrim that doesn’t sound great from a user’s perspective, but it’s simply impossible to consider all the mods out there.

Only issues that occur after removing all mods or issues that can be clearly assigned to a specific, heavily used mod, can be considered actual issues. You probably can’t imagine how much time went into this game alone, there has to be some limit regarding what can be done for a single title, even in case of Skyrim.

I’m out of town currently. I get back to you via mail as soon as I’m at work again. Normally there is no way to go back to earlier versions and this will not be introduced. Thanks for your patience.

The chance that your issue is related to the latest update is extremely slim though. Not a single report that sounds even remotely like yours. That is next to impossible for Skyrim if there was a general vorpX issue causing a problem like yours.

Heys now that Star Citizen is hooking without crashing again can we get a profile for it ? There is some weirdness going on whereby I can’t make a copy of one of the cryengine/Far Cry ones and associate it with Star Citizen (like you used to be able to do back when it worked) because it is saying that StarCitizen.exe is already associated with a profile, but when you search through the list, there is no profile available to edit/delete (so I can use the farcry one instead). So can we either get a Star Citizen profile or delete the “hidden” one that appears to be in there somewhere, which is preventing star citizen being associated with a different profile ?

    Thanks

This message is mainly for krogan , but I will gladly hear anyone.

the lenova works fine in cinema mode eso online looks fantastic in z 3d mode

Could you give a detailed install guide? I too have a lenovo and I have been trying forever and I cannot get ANYTHING to work (not even ESO). Well, I got the cinema but I could not launch anything as I have no cursor. If I used my regular mouse to click on the icon on my regular (non-HMD) desktop, it would just launch on my regular monitor. What am I missing?

Ralf: firstly, take a break for now for the Christmas season. When you’re well rested…maybe you have some suggestions concerning this. I’m not sure if I’m the only one but I have never been able to get the Metro 2033 series of games running properly in vorpx…ever. Even the latest 17.3.0 still doesn’t work for my installation.

I’ve done a clean steam install of Last light and for the life of me cannot get it to look right. It’s definitely something to do with the FOV, but I was expecting 17.3.0 to take care of that. Also, since the new update…Metro 2033 redux just crashes part way through the beginning when it takes you through the tunnel before it gets to the end where you select to start, continue game or set options.

In Last light everything looks warped and un-natural when inside the game using full VR. As vorpx writes it’s own configuration to each game. Could it be that the config files aren’t getting written to the game in this instance? Stumped. Suggestions? No rush though.

Satya: Glad you got things working. I have set up a number of custom resolutions through the Nvidia control panel. I then can access them in the Skyrim startup config panel…but only after unchecking ‘windowed mode’. I also have tweaked all the advanced settings in the Skyrim startup config panel for running in 4k (2880×2160) to give the best performance trade off to visual. Also, like Ralf mentioned…you need to turn off voprx control of resolutions inside vorpx to use custom resolutions.

Update for 4k (2880×2160): As I am able to get consistent 90fps in 4k, G3D…I do still get a dip in fps when entering a city from a forest or mountain…it also depends on the direction I am going. When in a city…I can be going one direction and get 90fps…then the opposite direction gets me 70-80fps or less. It’s only noticeable during the decline in fps. VR amplifies this so much more than 2D…I guess that’s why it’s not so noticeable on a 2D monitor. I have for now gone back to z-buffer for playing in 4k, as I don’t get any dips in fps from 90fps in Skyrim 4k at all…anywhere, with my custom settings. I also play without any AA enabled for the best performance. Even going from Vorpx max 1680p setting to custom 2160p makes a noticeable difference in clarity.

Ralf: thanks again for the work you have done in this update. Z-buffer looks much better now…I can now have a higher 3D strength setting than I use to have without things looking like their doubled for the most part. It’s a good enough sacrifice visually from G3D to warrant the huge boost in performance…though G3D is greatly more defined visually. I guess it may be the next Nvidia 2080Ti that will allow 4k 90fps everywhere in G3D ;D. I do suspect it’s Skyrim’s engine that’s causing the dip in fps in different directions though…and 4k VR pushing the brute force of the 1080Ti to the limit. It’s truly incredible to be able to do this in a game that’s not designed for VR at all. Great job!!
