    Please help, I am using a dk2 with laptop now (win7 64, rift runtime 0.4.4,gtx 870m nvidia optimus)
    I set the rift runtime to extend mode and got team fortresses2 running under steam correctlly.

    now the problem is I run Vorpx 0.75 and then start skyrim @ 1080p, it bounced back and indicating the resolution is not supported, please change the resolution. i tried differet res, including the window mode, only the 800*600 under fullscreen mode works.
    however the image is 90 degree flipped. I tried to pre flip the extended screen or set the rift as the main displayer and none of these works.(I used tridef 3d a few weeks ago, is that a possible cause?)

    I then try battle field 4, every time I click the “join server”, it indicates “direct 11 dll error”, I can enter the game normally once I turned off vorpx.

    and advice? please.

    I didn’t see a way to edit my previous post, so a double.

    Also, to specify the menu, sometimes the image doesn’t zoom back out after exiting the menu. Though I haven’t noticed any patterns to replicate it, it seems to be random but if I do notice a pattern I’ll let you know.

    Also, my Borderlands save, http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=98411332024257196370

    You might have to clean the metadata so you can use it with your profile, also I have a Steam copy, and I am still at the beginning of the game, about to face the first boss with the jump pads.

    Hi Adam!

    Don’t give up, it will surely work!

    The main reason, why the game crashes at startup, use to be, that you are online! Please note, that when I say “offline mode” it doesn’t only refer to choosing “launch the game in offline mode” on the HUD when you are already in the game, but it also refers to Uplay! So, before launching Far Cry 4 exe file, launch Uplay first, and switch online mode to OFFLINE! VorpX won’t work otherwise and the game immidiatelly crashes in online mode.

    To those, who either have a startup crash problem OR the problem, that you can not make the game run on the Rift’s screen, again, please make sure, that all the following parameters are set OK:

    1. Make sure, that the rift is properly installed. I use the rift the way, that in my desktop/VGA settings:
    – DK2 and my monitor are side by side (monitor is the first and next to it on the right there is the DK2),
    – DK2 is in portrait mode and NOT landscape
    – In resolution options DK2 is set to 1920X1080 AND 75 Hz (this is essential!)
    – My DK2 is set to be secondary screen (apart from some rare cases as exceptions, I think DK2 doesn’t need to be set as primary screen!)

    2. WITHOUT launching VorpX you must launch the game first and make the following settings properly:
    – aspect ratio: auto
    – resolution 1920×1080
    – screen: FULLSCREEN (NOT borderless or windowed!)
    – refresh rate: 60 Hz (as there is not an option for 75 Hz, but if anybody knows, how to upscale this to 75 Hz, please, tell me)

    Before exiting the game, SAVE the changes!

    3. Set the rift to extended mode and disable OR Service.

    4. BEFORE launching FC4 exe, launch Uplay and switch it to OFFLINE mode! Disabling the overlay can not hurt either.

    5. BEFORE launching FC4 exe, launch VorpX and enter general configuration. The most important thing there is to set “SHOW ON RIFT DK2” and NOT “use system settings”! This is highly important, otherwise you can run into the same problem, that the game won’t show up on your rift’s screen, only on your monitor!

    I also use the following settings turned ON:
    – Disable Aero on game start
    – Restore desktop windows

    I also had the problem, as some other commenters mentioned too, that in the game everything was “too close”, and it made me a headache quite soon. To avoid this you can create optimal view by harmonizing the following settings:
    – Increasing FOV in VorpX Game Settings Optimizer menu (for my taste, FOV 130 worked much better, and resulted a more comfotable gameplay, than FOV 120)
    – Altering vignette scale and image zoom settings ingame through VorpX control panel
    – Switching between lens A and lens B settings

    I hope, that the guide above helped in solving FC4 – DK2 problems to all of you!

    Keeping all these instructions I think there is no way to fail playing FC4 on DK2.

    Please, write some feedback, how you succeeded.

    Greetings!

    I just finished Bioshock Infinite with dk2 and vorpx which was one of the greatest game experiences of my life. This was the steam version, running windows 7 on an evga nvidea 640 with 8 gb ddr2, with graphics set to very high. I used the following setup:
    In game settings:
    Start Bioshock Infinite without vorpx first.
    Go to options, graphics, set field of view to max.
    Ensure game is fullscreen, and 1920X1080.
    Start New Game, enter the light house, exit game.
    (Ensuring ini creation, and a good point to trigger autosave to jump in and out of game while adjusting)
    Startup Vorpx.
    Right click tray icon, Configure Vorpx, General Settings,
    Under Disaply/Monitors set to Show on Rift DK2 and disable Aero on game start.
    (I have had alot of luck with this working correctly since the patch)
    Apply and close.
    Restart Bioshock Infinite with vorpx on.
    You should be able to see well enough to continue your game.
    (Use middle mouse click edge peak if needed to enter game)
    Ingame vorpx settings:
    Once ingame push Delete on your keyboard to bring up vorpx menu.
    Click Mouse wheel to zoom back in to see menu clearly.
    On Main tab:
    Set 3d Reconstruction Z Normal
    Seperation (3d-strength) 2.00
    Depth Weighting (Near-Far) 1.00
    (These are the most immersive 3d setting I found, that do not distort quality or cause my stomach to turn)
    On Display Tab:
    Fix Chromatic Aberration On
    Image Zoom 0.67
    (This will pull the camera back far enough to capture most of the screen without taking you out of the screen)
    On Input Tab:
    HT Sensitivity .38
    HT Roll On
    HT Smoothing Very Low
    (This will seem a bit slow, once you reach the target practice area i suggest you practice till perfect learning to aim and shoot using head tracking before you proceed, and tweak these settings to what suits you. Alot of people dislike this method of shooting and want the crosshair disconnected, but having tried steamvr halflife 2 I can tell you hands down, I love aiming with headtracking. You will also want to tweak your right joystick sensitivity ingame control options to your liking, I also found that a lower sensitivity worked for me.)
    Handle Gamepads Internally Off
    Head Tracking as Gamepad Off
    (This will allow you to play with an xbox controller using in game setup, which does not coflict with head tracking for me)
    OK&Save (exit vorpx panel)
    Exit Game one more time.
    INI Settings:
    Open the following folder:
    C:\Users\(your username)\Documents\My Games\BioShock Infinite\XGame\Config
    Open XUserOptions.ini with notepad.
    Change:
    MaxUserFOVOffsetPercent=00.000000
    To:
    MaxUserFOVOffsetPercent=28.570000
    (This will boost your fov back far enough to make the depth feel correct)
    Save and Close
    Open XGame.ini with notepad.
    Change:
    [XCore.XScreenManager]
    bUseDefaultSafeRect=true
    SafeRectX0=0
    SafeRectY0=0
    SafeRectX1=1920
    SafeRectY1=1080
    MaxDefaultSafeRectAspectRatio=1
    To:
    [XCore.XScreenManager]
    bUseDefaultSafeRect=false
    SafeRectX0=0
    SafeRectY0=0
    SafeRectX1=900
    SafeRectY1=700
    MaxDefaultSafeRectAspectRatio=0
    Save and Close
    (This last edit alters the positioning of your hud elements. These settings will pull your healthbar, vigorbar etc inside your field of view. This will allow you to enjoy the game without ever having to use edge peak)
    Restart Bishock infinite and enjoy.

    While waiting for the rfactor 2 update (with hopefully 3D function), I thought I am give rfactor 1 a try again as it is listed in the games being supported.

    I have installed rfactor and it is launching without VorpX started, but if I start the Vorpx Service , I see the rfactor start message, a black Screen but then back to the desktop.
    Meaning I can not launch rfactor running the VorpX Service.

    Any idea what I might do wrong or have missed ?
    Thanks in advance for your help

    Hi!

    I think I found a solution, at least worked for me. The problem was, that for some reason, among special conditions (alt-tabing or maybe else) ingame settings fullscreen mode sometimes turns to borderless, and I didn’t notice that also happened in my game settings.

    So, for me the following steps made it OK on DK2:

    1. Enter the game first without launching VorpX, and you make sure to have these settings: aspect ratio: auto; refresh rate: 60 Hz; screen: fullscreen (NOT windowed or borderless!).
    2. Save the changes and quit the game to desktop.
    3. Set the rift to extended, and pause the service in configuration utility.
    4. Launch VorpX (make sure VorpX was updated to the latest build).
    5. Launch Far Cry 4 in offline mode.

    I hope this helped!

    p.s.: The game makes terrible nausea for me in the rift, however I tried to alter several VorpX settings (image zoom, vignette scale, etc). It would be really usefull, if somebody made a little guide about the VorpX options and how the lower or higher alterations of these settings one by one will take an effect in the game

    Ralf,

    Sorry, i got busy and didnt get a chance to try it till now. Going offline worked, but i ran into another issue. Upon seeing this issue, i went back to a previously known functional game and confirmed that the issue is affecting it, too, now (BF4).

    Based on this symptom, do you know what might be the root cause? All of a sudden, my left and right eye FOV/ROI are offset (on the x-axis) by too much, such that there’s no way one can focus. I see this in both FC4(no 3D) and BF4 with VorpX. It actually looked better with glasses worn upside down lol. But i dont think the issue is related to 180deg rotation or monitor flip. My DK2 HMD setting in Win 7 is Portrait, primary. I didnt have this problem before, so I am not sure what changed. Could be one of the NVidia settings, but I reset them to default and still no change.

    This may or may not be related, but outside of VorpX, playing World of Diving, i noticed that the graphics setting of “Low” flipped the image vertically.

    Hi, I have purchased vorpx today and am getting nowhere with it on supported games. The left and right channels are reversed! e.g. what should be in the left eye is in the right eye.

    I have followed all the advice I can find on this forum and tried all modes available and ALL games are the same whether supported or not by vorpx.

    I’ll use a supported game as an example: Dirt 2

    image 1
    image 2
    image 3
    image 4

    I can’t see what I’m doing wrong!

    Please can you help?

    There already is an option called “G3D Latency Enhancement” on the input page of the vorpX ingame menu which eliminates input lag almost entirely. It applies head rotation directly in vorpX, completely circumventing the games input pipeline.

    You can experiment with that in every Geometry 3D game. Setting it to something around 0.3 should usually suffice, above 0.7 lag is even gone in games that run below 60/75fps (read Skyrim).

    One small caveat: enabling this in Skyrim creates a slight rendering artifact with far clouds/fog when turning your head. But that’s not really bad.

    In case you haven’t done that already the other thing you can/should do is adjusting the head tracking sensitivity in vorpX until turning your head feels fully natural.

    Can’t say anything in regard to the mod unfortunately.

    Ok, so i only managed to find one other post relevant to mass effect 3 and it is fairly outdated at this point. When playing ME3 I am able to use head tracking and click the mouse wheel to zoom out. But, the Vorpx menu does not show up and I cannot see my mouse cursor and none of the keys work. So, I cannot actually get past the menu of the game. Now the game is supported by Vorpx, and I have seen videos of people playing it so i am a little confused. Further research showed that to effectively play ME1, one had to go into the config and ‘enable hardware cursor’, otherwise there would be no cursor or Vorpx menu. But, ME3 has no such option in the config files, so I am somewhat lost. Any advice ?

    So first off let me start by saying, when I got the rift a week ago, I didn’t know ANYTHING about resolutions and monitors, or what most of the settings meant. I got some games working by google and “What does this button do? Oops” I still don’t know very much and have ALOT to learn. After being frustrated and buying this program or downloading and injecting that mod, and almost regretting buying the Rift because I didn’t know what I was doing, I finally found a setup that works for me.

    I decided that maybe I could help some poor soul out there that’s in my same shoes, kind of get going with Skyrim. So I decided to post this “in no way official, but hopefully at a little helpful to someone guide” This worked for me, but may not work for you. I am literally just listing what I did, and my results. That being said Follow AT YOUR OWN RISK.

    I guess it should be noted that I have NVidia (couldn’t tell you the model or if the settings are the same as your Nvidia) and the settings below are for that graphics card. I’m using Windows 8.1. I have 2 DVI ports on my computer and have the Rift plugged into my left port (if I’m facing the back of the computer) and my Computer monitor plugged into the right one. Also I am not using any visual mods for Skyrim (that I am aware of) Only Skyrim (with all the DLC), Oculus software, and VorpX.

    First open Skyrim without Oculus attached, load a saved game.

    This is important: Change Fov (Field of View) by doing the following:
    -While in loaded game hit the ~ on keyboard. This will open a command screen (I guess that’s what it’s called)
    – Type the following (without the quotes) “fov 120” and then hit enter
    – Hit the ~ again to close the command thingy
    – Save a new file

    The screen will look stretchy without the rift on. You want this because things will be too close while in the Rift if this is left to the games default FOV. This can easily be change back for play without the Rift by following the steps above and changing the FOV back to 65 (the original FOV).

    — I freaked when I first did this because VorpX did it for me. I didn’t know the term “FOV” and I didn’t understand why Skyrim looked stretched when I didn’t have the Rift on. I deleted and re-installed my Skyrim like 3 times, thinking that I broke something, before I researched and figured this out. Whatever, I learned something new.

    Quit Skyrim

    Now, Make sure Oculus is connected, on, and the Oculus Utility and appropriate are drivers installed (not trying to be a smart ass. I’m stating this with the assumption that you’re a complete newbie like me)

    In Oculus Vr Utility, set Display mode to “Extended”
    -Tools -> Display Mode -> “Extended Desktop to the HMD”
    Minimize Oculus Utility

    Then on Desktop, Left Click On Desktop to Open the following Applications:

    *NVidia Control Panel: (Make sure to hit apply and yes after changing each setting) Also make sure that you are changing the following settings for the Rift (not the computer monitor)
    -Resolution set to 948×1080 (Display->Change Resolution)
    -Rift should be to the Left (Display->Set up Multiple Displays)
    Then Drag Rift to left of Computer monitor
    -Make Sure Rift is in Portrait Mode (Display-> Rotate Display)
    AND

    * Screen Resolution: (also found by Right Clicking Desktop)
    -Resolution set to 948×1080
    -Rift should be to the Left
    -Rift should be in Portrait Mode
    – It’s weird, I’ve seen NVidia tell me Rift is in portrait, while Screen Resolution gives me a different orientation. Maybe I’m just crazy but make sure the settings in both Display Applications match)

    Side Note: I find that setting Rift to 948×1080 while it’s in portrait mode allows me to see most of what’s on desktop screen. I don’t understand this because I thought Rift’s native res is 1920×1080 but whatever, it worked. (Maybe someone can explain because again, this is completely foreign to me)

    Launch VorpX
    I have the following settings checked for Skyrim: See “VorpXSkyrimConfig” picture in link below
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/22546240/VorpXSkyrimConfig.jpg

    -Disconnect Xbox Controller (this will be reconnected after initially setup)
    -Make launching the game easier by creating a Skyrim shortcut on desktop and putting it in the center

    After Verifying settings in VorpX, and that both Display Applications settings match, go back to NVidia Control panel and do the following

    -Make rift primary display
    -Uncheck Computer monitor from the list of checked devices (this should turn off computer monitor forcing VorpX aided game to open in rift)

    Your computer monitor should turn off and your Rift should be the monitor. Make sure to click yes to Keep Changes as the settings will revert if this is not done in a timely manner. Hopefully the desktop doesn’t look flipped or weird in the rift. I struggled with this for a while and finally got this sorted out with above settings. Again this may be different for you.

    Next Launch Skyrim
    -On the load screen click Ok with mouse for the health warning and then hit shift+space bar (I found that I have to hit the 2 buttons together and rapidly a few times to get the box to go away. You’ll see what I mean) This may also load your last save, (you probably won’t be able to see the options to the right)

    -Once game has loaded, hit the ‘Del button’. This will pull up VorpX settings. At the top there is an arrow that lets you switch pages of the VorpX settings. I have tweaked VorpX settings on these pages and have left the other pages alone.

    -Click “VorpX In Game Settings 1 and 2” pictures in link below to see settings I used.

    VorpX In Game Settings 1

    VorpX In Game Settings 2

    -Make sure to click “Ok and Save” in VorpX settings menu once finished

    -After filling in settings, Hit “Del” to exit out of VorpX settings

    If you hit the middle wheel of the mouse, it will show you more of the screen (menus and such), click it again to zoom back in.

    -Save game and Exit to desktop.

    -Now plug in Xbox Controller (or not), re-launch game, and it should work. The graphics are not the best but they’re not terrible (in my opinion)

    Sometimes I find that I have to exit and re-launch game if head-tracking stops working.

    Sorry if this post is unprofessional, if I’ve made some grammatical errors, or if I’m hard to follow. This is my first time doing this and was a completely impulsive post. But I hope this helps someone….

    Just remember to turn vsync on, max fov in game and run it at 1080p.

    When I run Black Mesa on my DK2 and the latest Vorpx, the image I get is squeezed as if it were being compressed by an invisible bodice.

    So I have three questions:

    1. When you say to turn on v-sync, do you mean the in-game option “Wait for Vertical-sync”? (I already have v-sync on in my nividia global settings).

    2. I found the in-game FOV control, but moving it all the way to the right does nothing.

    3. You say run the game at 1080p, but the nearest in-game resolutions available are 1024×768 or 1152×864.

    Any help would be very much appreciated.

    It’s certainly not a plug and play product, strictly speak, but it does its job very well. I’ve found some games hook nicely on launch, other games you have to create a vorpx shortcut for, while other games will crash if you use a vorpx shortcut (ME1).

    I’ve also found that I may have to dig into ini files to get the settings to an acceptable point, I posted my ME1 settings in the games forum. UE3, at least, allows the game dev’s to set a maximum frame rate. Check for that if your favorite game won’t go over 60ish FPS.

    I’ve played Dear Esther and the Stanley Parable through in the last couple of days, and those hooked in quite nicely once I setup a vorpx shortcut. The rendering was smooth, and the experience was quite pleasant.

    ME1 took some ini editing to get it to a comfortable point, and I think I still have a little more editing to do. Vorpx gives a very comfortable experience for that game.

    Ralf (and crew?) has done a wonderful job of breathing new life into older games. I highly recommend this if you have a Rift. But understand, this is beta software, developed for a developer version of Oculus hardware…there will be some trial and error and you may have to dig into the guts of the game configuration to get it just right. And there will be bugs, in the wonderful world of Windows we have gamers running cards from at least the last five GPU generations on both sides of the house. While I’m having a grand time with an i7 950 and a GTX 770…your mileage may vary. Oh, and if you can disable UAC…it’ll save some security setting headaches.

    Fantastic Rotorblade! Thanks very much. This specific method, launching with the x86 game through origin and disabling ingame worked a charm :D

    I will have to tweak the game to work nicely now. Having a bit of an issue with the player flitting 180 degrees when using the left stick.

    Most of my VorpX problems seem to relate to input.

    Dood, that is fantastic that my suggested fix was able to help someone else out. Last night I spent more time in BF4 playing around with all the settings. VorpX has a lot of stuff to tinker with and I don’t fully understand yet. After tinkering around for a while I was able to tweak it to the least amount of strain on my eyes and to improve the fun with the view. I am going to have to go cruising the game settings area to try to find some suggestions.

    I am wondering right now how you’re supposed to do the measurement calibration in VorpX with the lines/grid. Are you supposed to relax your eye’s and wait till the grids match up or do you adjust so theres the least amount of strain? Sorry for asking if this is said somewhere else.

    Alright I finally got Battlefield 4 to work.

    The problems I had to deal with:

    Optimus Nvidia driver not switching from intel to Nvidia with Battlefield and other games. I have dealt with this problem in the past and unfortanatly a reinstall of the entire system fixed it on my older system and it also fixed it on my new system which is a Sager NP7330 13″ notebook with the Nvidia 765GTX card optimus technology.

    I really didn’t think I was going to get the Oculus Rift working well on a laptop with a switching graphics card. The reinstall seemed to have fixed my switching issues.

    Now for Battlefield 4 and VorpX troubles. I pretty much had the same experience as many other users in this forum where I couldn’t get VorpX to work with any games for a week or more. I was about to give up and then there was a friend who I really wanted to show BF4 to in the Oculus so I sat down tonight and went through the forum posts all over again.

    I made sure all apps using 3d are turned off such as Windows Aero, and I couldn’t find anything else since i have a fresh install of Windows 7.

    I am using Oculus DK2 in extended mode as primary to get this to work.

    Now I had seen suggestions to use VorpX to create a shortcut for battlefield and this didn’t work for either exe.

    I kept wondering if I was actually launching the game in 32 bit mode. I checked task manager and nope, running in 64 bit still when I thought I was using the 32bit shortcut.

    The fix for me that finally got it working:

    Step 1: Launch Origin

    Step 2: Right click on battlefield 4 and go down to Game Properties

    Step 3: change “When Launching this game” to “Battlefield 4 (x86)”

    Step 4: check mark “disable Origin in Game for this game”

    When I launched the game it worked. Then I had to remember shift middle mouse button for edge peak which works great.

    Other tips related to eye strain and bf4:

    I then redid the measurement for Eye Position for Current Device in the Oculus Config to better improve the view for less eye strain. For some reason mine was off, I go between two systems with my Oculus Rift DK2.

    I also found that after you put on the Oculus Rift DK2 to close your eyes real hard to help move some of the skin into the goggles around your eyes. I found this in the reddit post about Oculus and Eye strain.

    Battlefield is now working well for me and a bit less strain on the eyes. I thought for sure I wasn’t going to get it working but through persistence I was able to get this to work and to share the experience with my friend.

    I hope this can help other BF4 lovers to get this working.

    This guy Ralf is doing a lot of work answering peoples posts. I believe VorpX is some great software!
