    Quest 2 owner.

    Purchased VD and VorpX

Sideloaded the VD VR patch through guides.

Once I got my wifi6 router going and successfully connected my thought was to fire up VD and everything good.

Then started Cyberpunk and what happens is VorpX starts it’s stream, and at the same time VD does it’s stream.

I like VORPX offerings far better and am a bit confused as performance was terrible once I minimized the VD stream since it seems that the GPU has to process both feeds now.

Am I missing something? Do you have to use VD’s stream instead of VorpX while using VD? Or is there a way to direct the stream of video to only VorpX minus VD?

For example when Cyberpunk started I had the VorpX Cinema environment and screen showing BEHIND the VD monitor at same time both displaying Cyberpunk.

    Hi Ralf!

I already bothered you in a subject about my rift s never more hooking in his oculus intended mode, but was working throught steamVR again finaly.

Mentionned that it was since my proximity sensor to wake-up the rift s was broken and not sure it was related to this…

Now, i can assure you it was related to this issue! But i will not make a stupid long post to explain… This is surnatural.

I was asking you also if it can destroy performance, and i can confirm that also now…

Somes games can go from fully smooth (oculus mode) to unplayable (steamVR), regardless of the settings.
Battlefront 2 for exemples… Everything to low or even lowering resolution didn’t helped (or a ridiculous amount). Throught oculus mode, i can have medium 1080p 70-80fps on 2070 super with textures and terrain details on ULTRA. On SteamVR it was HORRIBLE!
somes other i can gain 5-10 FPS, but also more smooth in general, really more than the 5-10 fps gain could tell. Vram usage also grow when forced to use steamVR if i’m not mistaking. Monster Hunter World in this case. Medium basically and 50fps in worst case, 80 in the better one (desert environment only)

So, i really hope that you will make a native WMR mode fearing that it can be the same story on the Reverb G2. I’m going to buy one when available again.
Or at least, i hope the bottleneck is really lower than it is on oculus when using steamVR.

I think you should. The headset is really wanted by a lot of people.

Thanks if you considere this, and even hope you can answer a little bit about this please… If the steamVR mode will be so bad on Reverb G2?

If you have some experience with 3D programs and want to do an environment yourself, shoot me a mail to support at vorpx com. You would have to follow some rules in regard to scaling and object placement, also the poly count has to be *really* low to keep the performance impact minimal, but I could provide you with guidelines in that regard.

The actual integration into vorpX would have to be done by me since the scenes are built programmatically from individual objects in a vorpX specific file format exported from 3ds max. At some point down the road I might create full scene export/import from 3ds max to vorpX. Wouldn’t be overly difficult, currently that doesn’t exist though.

If you come up with a cool scene, I’d be happy to do the integration work. You could even built it in Blender or whatever you prefer. Would have to be something original though, just copying the SteamVR theater is out of the question unfortunately, copyright and so on.

My advice, to anyone not familiar with mod organizer and skse, is to not use them with vorpx. I do so because I had a heavily modded skyrim environment already built, long before I had even heard of vorpx.

At present I think I’m down to about 160 mods, and many of them are irrelevant because they don’t change the display, but the ones that do work very well with vorpx (even the one’s that add physics to the female skeletons).

Ive tried everything there is with persmissions, sharing, taking ownership, adding av exclusions everywhere and disabling every av service and general protection etc.

Every program has no issue saving there, vorpx has no issue saving into another subfolder next to this one, environments I just cant get to work.

Pretty much gave up on it, if I feel like I really need one I will replace default one with similar type manually or add similar one unless someone saves an example of every image type there can be and shares it for me to manually add new ones.

Would be funny if there was a bug in vorpx itself with image saving to a folder containing space bar in its name (but yes, yes its a permissions bullshit windows has somewhere that Im unable to overcome).

I get this error each time, tried different formats and all, nothing works.
Manually creating thumbnail, settings file and dds texture in the 360 environment folder works, but automatic generator fails each time.

I’m trying to play Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, but it won’t hook. It simply just won’t start in Vorpx. And I’ve played it in Vorpx many times before.

I have Nvidia graphics, if that helps. I can see it trying to hook in for a split second then I’m taken back to my Oculus home screen. I tried lower resolutions and disabling movies in the games config but nothing. Star Wars Nights of the Old Republic 2 works ironically.

    Any ideas, suggestions?

I got curious about this and fired up skyrimse from mod manager 2 using the default hooking method and it worked fine, so I’m guessing that having to use the alternate hook in the past was something in my environment. I frequently had to switch to alternate hooking for various games, but the default method is working very well for me now.

Yes, I use mod manager 2, and it does weird things, the biggest of which is encapsulating the runtime environment into a virtual file system, which is probably why vorpx doesn’t see it being launched, unless you use the alternate hook. The other manager I’m familiar with is Vortex, which is Nexus’s manager, and it does similar things but uses symbolic links in the skyrim folder rather than a virtual file system.

It’s of little inconvenience to use the alternate hook compared to the cost of manually trying to manage a large number of mods without a manager. I know it’s a bit fishy, but it works.

Two more awesome games in the play queue. Ralf killing it, as always! In an ironic twist, I’ve gotten back into RDR2 after months off, to scratch my RPG itch while waiting for a new VorpX version so I’m looking forward to that fix equally as much.
Also, Zero Dawn has been having performance issues for a lot of people on initial release, just a heads up to everyone. It might be stuttery until they release an optimization patch.

This post is for anyone interested in playing a very old game from the Elder Scrolls series by Bethesda in vorpx with G3D. Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall. We are talking 1996! It can be done with the Daggerfall Unity mod which brings this old dos game into the Unity game engine. You can download the original game for free legitimately, just google it. I got my version free included when I purchased some Bethesda bundle from GOG. What amazes me is this mod is full with a ton of additional mods to update textures and many facets of the game. You can go here for installation instructions and all relevant info.

    Daggerfall Unity Download

I created a Vorpx profile and used the authoring tool to fix the hud, character sheet, maps etc.. and a few obstructing light source shaders. This is based on the Unity 5 Base profile. The environments look great in G3D for such an old game and although the sprites are 2D, it’s dam fun to play in the headset. I am using most of the additional mods to enhance this experience. You can find them all here.

I strongly recommend the D.R.E.A.M mod and the FOV Adjuster mod. The settings within my profile can be switched to Full VR if you prefer. I am using immersive screen mod. What is also crucial is that you need to change the combat to a single click within the game settings. Swinging the sword with mouse makes it nauseating in VR mode.

Anyway, it’s quite the trip down memory lane and this game world is colossal in size.Have fun

    Cheers,

It does look like a curious game, I’ve now added to my wishlist awaiting a sale.

From what I read, it’s running on Unity 5 and has a built in FOV slider that maxes to 100 vertical (which should be plenty), both promising factors regarding use with vorpX.

However, it sounds like it is poorly optimized and struggles to run on current hardware, so trying to push stereoscopic rendering will be a challenge.

I would expect frame rates below the preferred 45, mismatching dynamic shadows (or turned off entirely), and possibly using the cinema screen mode instead of FullVR, depending on how much time will be spent in the inventory menus or how well the HUD can be scaled down. Most likely a seated experience with mouse and keyboard.

Not to say that would make a terrible experience (I play and enjoy many games this way, though I have a seasoned iron gut by now), but I wouldn’t expect it to be flawless or like actual VR.

If that still sounds like something you would try, maybe I can bump it up on my sale priority list and have a go at it.

Another Call of Duty experience now for our vorpX G3D library.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (G3D)

Apart from a few very subtle environmental shadow bugs, this is looking pretty good in G3D, and performance is better than I expected. I wish the cockpit FOV was a bit better, but it is still passable.

    – use a 16:9 resolution (2560×1440)
    – set FOV slider to max 120 in game options
    – set all shadow settings to Off or Lowest
    – set all post processing effects Off, except for FXAA On

    *Adjustable HUD
*Tested for Singleplayer only, on HP Reverb with mouse and keyboard

Bored of the current vorpX cinema scene after five years? If not or you aren’t using cinema mode at all, you can safely skip this post.

Otherwise you will get a shiny new cinema mode environment per default in the next vorpX version: a spacious, modern loft. Might not be the most important thing in the world, but the current scene is getting old, so time for something new. All done with great emphasis on lightweight rendering, so despite the realistic look still virtually no impact on game performance. The original scene will still be available, just in case anyone wonders.

Below two preview images. Note that this is work in progress. The scene is not quite finished yet.

    Deadside (G3D)

This PvPvE survival shooter just released to Early Access this week. Think DayZ but without the zombies. It’s still fairly basic, but possibly the only online game in this genre currently playable with vorpX (no anti cheat so far).

The environment is nice and the so are the first person full body animations. Apart from it being a performance hog, the game looks good in vr. Expect dips below 30fps at times. Below are the recommended settings for the profile now on the cloud:

    – for best FOV, use this custom resolution aspect ratio:

    Quality = 1920×1728
    Balanced = 1600×1440
    Performance = 1333×1200

    – set FOV slider to 101 in game
    – view distance = low
    – AA = epic
    – post processing = high
    – shadows = medium (most important)
    – textures = epic
    – effects = high
    – foliage = medium

*Scalable HUD, but use edgepeek to read fine print
    *Tested on HP Reverb
