Hey guys, my VorpX can still be started and still works in games (so does the ingame menu) but if I try to ppen the application itself or the configure Vorpx option via the taskbar icon, nothing happens.

I cannot remember when this started, but I noticed it right after the update.

    Any clues?

Probably not the same problem that you have, but I thought I’d mention it.

I had a similar problem yesterday, I could start VorpX configuration just fine but it failed to show up on my desktop and it was baffling cause I had not had this happen to me before.

After some time I solved it, for some reaosn my nvidia controlpanel had set screens to extend.. I only have one normal screen (other that rift that is),
so have no idea how that suddenly happened, but changing it to only display on screen 1 did the trick and VorpX configuration menu was back on my desktop where it should be.

I think it might have happened as I was adding custom resolutions to nvidia controlpanel cause I had VorpX configuration open so that I could follow instructions as I went on. After this I couldn’t find the VorpX configuration on my desktop.

So that is strange. I looked into my NV system config and indeed there is a second display now and it is called “NVidia VR Desktop”. However, there is no clone option or something available and if I disable it, it will be back within a couple of seconds. I tried around a little bit but was not able to solve it.

    Hello,
I’ve spent around 12 hours since purchasing VorpX just fiddling with the VorpX settings. This is because none of the games I want to play in VR work.

    I have tried so far:
    – Vanilla Skyrim
    – Skyrim SE (I uninstalled vanilla to see if SE would work, it did not)
    – Fallout 3
    – Fallout 4
    – Portal 2

Most of these titles should automatically open up in VR and run fairly well, providing you follow the correct instructions on how to configure. I am using Steam VR with the Vive.

However, I have followed instructions for each game, and nothing will open up in VR. I configure the profiles, then optimise them for the game I want to play, then I go to my library and open it up. But when I click ‘play’, the game will only open on my desktop, not inside my Vive.

I don’t know why this is. VorpX should convert these games into my headset, but it is not. If I am missing a step, which one is that?

I’ve spent so long trying to get games to work, somebody please tell me what I’m doing wrong here.

    Thank you.

To be totally objective there are some advantages and disadvantages in each of them. Both have pros and cons.

Absolutely there are pros and cons to each. Which is why I think it would be great if it was possible to combine elements of each, and to hopefully do the same when Skyrim VR gets an official PC release.

Your post does bring up several good points of each of them.

To me I strongly prefer to use a normal controller as that is what I’m just used to, especially for a game like Fallout.

In my experience trying to give a game a more robust controller system actually limits what the game can accomplish.

Native Fallout4 VR, you can uncouple head / neck while walking, which is a bit more realistic in this sense, and allows you to look, fight, distract, with the environment a bit easier when you focus sideways along the way.
In the case of Vorpx, you always walk to the side where your eyesight focuses.

Vorpx and Fallout 4 normal version, allows in addition to standard control xbox one / 360 e.t.c. , allows you to map buttons and stick for motion controllers like touch and Vive wands,
which allows a preferred advantage for me, to adjust smooth movement in the right control, this avoids the obligation to keep the stick pressed to simply rotate angles (CV1 touch and Xbox control).

Fallout4 VR Native, allows full natural movement to aim with weapons during combat, watch the pitboy on your wrist, and small interactions with objects in the world. By contra Vorpx uses here the controls of static arms logically.

Vorpx and Fallout4 normal version, has arms and hands, which is pleasing to the eye and immersion.

We could continue to increase pros and cons, for each of them, for a long time, if you are a good observer.

In an almost perfect world, I would prefer to use the normal Fallout 4 version + DLC, with the official VR support files inside, which is possible and works after some steps (there is a method), but I still need some fixes that only Vorpx for the Moment contains, button and stick mapping completely to my liking and need, some arrangements for shader etc

If it were possible to obtain an option in the next Vorpx update, to mix Vorpx with the official support VR, the other normal modified with these files, and Vorpx being able to choose one or the other, would be just perfect, because it could take advantage of some control mappings with Cv1 + touch.

    Good points all around.

End yes, I would also gladly pay for the official VR version of Fallout 4. Just not $60.

Getting this error when I try to use the VorpX Desktop Viewer: “Sorry, vorp.Desktop.exe is taking a while to load. If this issue persists, please take off your headset and check this app on your computer.”

In the tray I disabled Razer Synapse, Nvidia, Intel, etc. (pretty much everything). My thought is the Intel graphics card is messing with it…but I’m not sure how to be able to disable it…However, I’ve read on forums here that this shouldn’t be a problem. Idk though. Maybe it is because I’m just trying to use the desktop viewer? The Tridef VR desktop viewer ran just fine.

    I’m running a Razer Blade 14 2017 with 1060.

VorpX with Blops3 works good once I disable Razer Synapse.

    Thanks.

You can disable Direct VR temporarily with a hotkey (freely configurable in the config app). The second option is to disable the positional part of Direct VR in the vorpX menu, normal pos tracking wil kick in instead. For playing seated or standing without walking that works just as well.

Smaller than 16:10 aspect ratios cause various UI glitches with or without vorpX, that’s a general game issue. There is a neat trick though to get close to 4:3 by adding a few pixels to the width. 1604×1200 for example does work. The next vorpX will do this fully automated.

I have been playing Skyrim VorpX sincd DK2 days and now I am playing Falskaar mod which is cool. Jumping from Borvald siege in VR was a highlight. I was looking forward to official Bethesda VR but seems like the releases so far have been not so good. VorpX Skyrim in interiors with direct VR and good resolution/up-scaling is basically as good as any native VR title. Exteriors are sometimes perfect and otherwise good/playable but can never keep a steady 90fps in G3D (even with GTX1080 and intel i7440k). To be honest my experience in Fallout 4 Vorpx was not so good, I found it ran worse and looked worse in both G3D and Z3D compared to Skyrim.

@Ralf: I am excited about the update and I like the idea of moving hands. As of now I like to disable the floating controllers because they just don’t make sense in the world of skyrim. How will they work with guns/weapons drawn??? It will look kind of odd with a floating hand over the guns in fallout 4 or over the sword/bow in Skyrim? Is there any way possible to make the hands disappear when weapon is drawn? Also is there any plans for customization of hands? Ex. gloves/gauntlets man/woman ect???? Or will they be more like the ethereal blue floating hands from oculus home?

    Hi folks,
Considering buying pimax 4k + vorpx software. More or less the only game i play these days is world of war tbc on private server.

My question is if wow works fine in vr with vorpx – sense of full 3d enviro, if the ui would be readable on pimax 4k, if the 2d elements (grass etc) are rendered properly within depth, if the mouse would work properly.

Ralf mentioned something about new release of vorpx where ui would work properly if i remember well. Just hoping for good vr experience.

Pimax 4k suits me well because I dont wanna move around the room and i dont really need vr controllers. Mouse and the keyboard is just fine.

    Thank you in advance!
    Rob.

Vorpx is not really a virtual desktop application even though it has that functionality. The new Oculus operating system called Dash is coming around Dec 12, so wait and see if that free update fulfils your desktop needs.

Vorpx’s main purpose and development direction is to allow you to play games that were not designed for VR in the closest approximation to VR that’s possible. Additionally it allows you to play games on a virtual cinema screen in 3D. Almost as good as VR for seated experiences.

For both of these functions it is excellent. Modded Skyrim / Fallout etc is wonderful.

There is an alternative for 3D cinema screen in TriDefVR which I also have and I swap between these programs. It offers far more games than Vorpx for the cinema screen 3D experience [ 900 or so ], but no VR. It is subscription based and somewhat crash prone but I find great value in it.

Vireio Perception is not really an alternative since it requires far more work than the others to get working. Save yourself the time and effort.

For both Vorpx and TriDefVR you will need a good GPU. GTX970 minimum. GTX1070 / 1080 would be better and you will want it for the next big VR titles. It’s worth the investment.

For Vorpx you will need some patience because tinkering with settings is part of the process for some games, although a good many will work with the ‘DirectVR’ one click solution in the upcoming release.

I have noticed that people who just want things to work instantly without a little work are frustrated with Vorpx. It’s not the smooth curated experience of an oculus storefront, but there is realistically no other option when it comes to turning non-VR games into VR. Think of it as beta / experimental software and ‘curb your enthusiasm’ and in time you will see it as some of the best money you’ve spent in VR [no offence to Ralf with the ‘beta’ reference].

I have both the Vive and Rift [with 3 sensors] so I am invested in VR.
My advice would be to upgrade your card first then purchase both Vorpx and TridefVR. While the cost might be a little high, and Vorpx itself a little tricky sometimes – especially for people who don’t like tinkering – the rewards are very high.

    Welcome to VR!

This cant be real right? There is NO way a person who has no idea what something is would go out and buy it right? Your saying you went out and spent money on a program that you have literally NO idea what it does or is even supposed to be used for? Do you expect people to actually believe you? Maybe get a job at Newsweek o Facebook because your IQ is clearly single digits. Seriously are you a brain dead 12 year old? Like seriously, what the hell? Like smash my face with the keyboard, what THE HELL is wrong with these dip shits?

I am sorry to say that, but tone of your ‘answer’, could work for some people as a lead to state your IQ. Just quick thought on it.

To OP: Don’t get offended by first post.

I had to come give further props to Ralph and vorpX. I’ve used it for a long time, ever since I got my DK2 when those first shipped. It’s always worked, and been a great tool to enjoy non VR games in VR. I got a Vive now and am going over all my favorites to see how they play now. I tried the direct VR in a few games and it worked great as an easy solution to just tweaking settings like the old days. But when I ran it in Fallout 3 I about fainted.

I have to say vorpX has really, really knocked my socks off yet again. After running the direct scan in Fallout 3, it just feels like your actually transported into the wasteland. The FOV gets set, the position locates you and bam your there… Its damn near perfect 1 to 1. Crystal clear image, the best image quality in an injected game I have ever seen. The vanilla textures even look good in VR! They’re muddy up close but the clarity of the image and the fact that parallax textures now work in 3D and you got a feast for the eyes.

The room scale works so good I’m actually stunned. You can use cover, peek around corners, walk around and browse and loot. Its unreal how good they got it working for this game. This feels as close to a native game as your going to get. Sure there are some issues with UI and CTDs but that’s more a Fallout issue then vorpx. Really need to patch the memory and get some other UI mods to see if I cant solve these few issues..

I was so floored by how amazing it worked that I ended up playing until 5am two nights in a row. I haven’t even tested out mods because I cant resist popping back in to Fallout 3 VR. Its just so damn good, its freaky…. Really guys, if your half a Fallout fan you must try It in Direct VR. Even if you think you’ve played it with older vorpx versions, try it now, you wont be disappointed.

    Hello Ralf,

In this case I am on the customer side, I do not think that it is good to advise people to change their antivirus, like Tycjan stated before, what happens if the user just got a bitdefender 3 year subscription or even one year, even they got the free version and they like it, I mean yeah if you have a free version go for it, try a different antivirus, but for the paid users that is not an option. Personally I had some issues and do not like Windows Defender but to each his own.

I sent an email to support@vorpx.com about this issue and still do not receive any response (granted it is just been 24h, I do not know the waiting response time).

In my case being a little bit more handy I played with bitdefender options and even went that far to chat with their technical support and they helped me find the issue. Not everyone will look into this and they want a prompt answer from the support of a software that costs $40us, if vorpx is a free software, sure by any means you do have to do, but for me paying $49cad, the least I expect is good technical support (like the acknowledgement of email received).

The solution, you do not need to whitelist the folders of the antivirus, you need to whitelist vorpx in the Advance Threat Defense module, as easy as that, but not anyone will find the solution that easy because it is not straightforward. This makes me think that you did not even try to find the issue or were too busy to look for a solution and just referred a generic “solution” like just whitelist the antivirus folders and if it does not work, change antivirus.

I hope you use this information and put a warning to Bitdefender users to just whitelist vorpx in the advance threat defense module, because it looks I am not the only one that had this issue.

I am sorry if I sound a little agressive, as a vorpx and bitdefender user I am just stating my opinion and to be clear its been some time since I use vorpx (like 4 years), it works perfectly and I like it a lot.

    Cheers.
    Rod.

I’l start by saying i have used VorpX with the Oculus DK2 and now with the Oculus CV1. I have played Alien Isolation and Half-Life 2 on the DK2 no problem even at the max resolution the DK2 could display and LOVED IT. 60 fps or 75? i beleive it was, was also no problem and i made sure the game made that target by tweaking some graphics settings, still ran it at high settings.

Now i have the CV1 and i cannot get any game to work at higher then 45 fps, even after turning off all the options VorpX has, so turned off head tracking, 3D (depth buffer etc to off), FluidSync everything off so basicly its like running the game normally performance whise (or so i thought). Even when turning down the resolution to 640×480 it does not run more than 45 fps and can even dip during gameplay.

Without VorpX i can run the game FEAR for instance at max settings with about 200 fps at 1920×1080 but with VorpX enabled no more than 45 fps, for some reason it seems stuck no matter what i do.

What is happening? Can someone help me diagnose this problem i cannot seem to pinpoint it.

    Extra info:
    – Tested on both an AMD R9 290X 4GB and now on Nvidia GTX 970
    – Tested without MSI Afterburner running
    – Tested without Steam overlay
    – Tested without Reshade
    – Tested before and after updating Windows 10 to the latest creators update
    – Checked if Game DVR for windows is off and it is disabled
    – Turned resolution down to 640×480 and lowest settings in FEAR

Is there anything else i can try? I know VorpX is really fast because it was with the DK2 when using the z-buffer. Now without 3D 640×480 does not even run, something weird is going on.

Does anyone have any ideas? I want to experience Half-Life 2 and Alien Isolation again on CV1! It was the best experience i had to date even if it was just on the DK2.

Hi, I am trying to use VorpX with Fallout 4 and no matter what I tried I could not get a high enough FPS to play normally. I first thought to try different settings and use lower resolutions but nothing seems to change the low FPS (around 30 – 35 FPS).

Within VorpX I excluded a lot of the processes and services and made sure that I run with only necessary services but again no change.

I then saw that just having started VorpX consumes a lot of CPU power and I think this is why I get problems in game. Each of the two VorpX processes consumes between 25 – 30% of my processor power and that together with a idle processor use of around 20 – 25% means the CPU is running almost at limit (regularly around 84% to sometimes almost 97%). What can I do to get this under control because at the moment I can not use VorpX.

I am using a PiMax 4k with the latest driver version for it, on a computer with GTX 1080, Intel I5-3570K and Windows 10 Pro Version 1703.

Thank you very much in advance for any help.

Since I only mentioned my top three I’d like to add TES:Oblivion to the mix. It’s probably my number 2 and IMO is much better than Skyrim and Fallout because of perfect hand models. It runs great even with 4k, Unique Landscapes mod and TES4LodGen on ultimate, which makes it look even better than Skyrim. I do admit I have a GTX 1080 TI, but I honestly think the game is bottled-necked by either the cpu or the engine itself and not the GPU. This is probably my favorite Bethesda game of all time and I’m happy to say it also runs just as good as Fallout NV and much better than Skyrim and Fallout 4 with Vorpx. If you liked SKyrim and never played Oblivion than there has never been a better time than now!

Mods that enhance VR (all can be found on http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion):
    – FOV Modifier (A must! For a constant FOV)
    – Oblivion Stutter Remover (Must for smooth framerate)
    – Enhanced Camera
    – Dot Crosshair
    – Darnified UI
    – Loot Menu (tweak the mod’s ini to fit inside the vorpx screen)
    – Hud and Camera Toggler (set hotkey in mod’s ini file. Google “oblivion key code” to find out the codes for different keys)

Look through this list for Gameplay mods:
    http://demwaifus.blogspot.dk/2015/10/oblivion-modding-guide.html
And this for graphic mods (be conservative):
    https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/47591/?
Be warned Oblivion is a crash fest compared to Skyrim, so don’t through to many big overhauls into the mix all at once!
