It seems like this will be a headache for more games. Metro Redux, LL and Exodus are affected also. I didn’t pay attention to it and just played through the first two games with mouse and keyboard. But now i’m going to play Exodus for my very first time and really want to make XBOX One game pad working. So let me elaborate first …

The game is working with the controller without a problem on flatscreen without VorpX. Once i start it with VorpX attached, the in-game prompts are showing keyboard prompts instead of controller ones. This would be not an issue on it’s own, but sometimes the game refuses to register gamepad inputs.

For example – the very first door in the game which you need to open to progress further .. when i stop ahead of the doors, it shows me to press E on the keyboard. Alternative controller key is X. The game refuses to register the controller input UNTIL i hold left stick in a direction. Then and only then the prompt on the HUD changes to X and i’m able to open the door. You could say, this is a workaround and it should be fine … UNTIL you encounter a QTE just few moments later and the game won’t register your input and you’re killed. This is not an annoyance anymore but it effectively stops the player from progressing through the game.

Ralf, you said that after the DirectVR scanner is done, the gamepad-to-mouse/keyboard should be turned off automatically and it should be OK. I made sure to have the autosettings feature turned ON right from the start. Started a new game and Head Tracking worked out of the box even without the scan. HUD was showing keyboard prompts.

Now i did a scan which was unsuccessfull. So i repeated it a few times without luck. I decided to continue just to learn the head tracking stopped working AND the HUD prompts were showing controller’s buttons.

So i restarted the game and the same happened as before – head tracking is working but the game shows keyboard prompts. So i tried the Scan again and this time it was successful. But the head-tracking stopped working again and the HUD prompts were showing the controller’s buttons.

Restarted the game again just to find out, the controller is not working in the game at all, but when i press DEL to show VorpX menu, it does work inside that menu.

So i restarted it again and i’m back to “normal” (headtracking works with keyboard prompts, until i do a scan after which the HT stops working and the prompts are showing controller buttons).

I also tried turning off HT while it was working. I have the Reverb G2 controllers turned off, tried changing them from Auto to Oculus Touch. But i can’t seem to find a way to keep working HT while having the game showing controller buttons instead of keyboard ones.

Now i’m really out of ideas how to proceed.

    Nevermind, i’ll try it again:

I’m pretty sure the auto settings feature was enabled, because after i manually changed to DX11 and restarted the game, VorpX attached successfully and managed to change resolution, FOV and few other lines in the .cfg file. But i will doublecheck it today. I’m not sure why it wouldn’t be able to do it on the first try though. Do you think the DX12 should work? Not that i care much about it as i won’t be enabling ray tracing and DLAA on my GTX 1060 anyway, but maybe as a general info would be nice to hear.

But let me just say something about the benchmark. In the game installation folder are 2 .exe files:

MetroExodus.exe – the file which starts the game and VorpX attaches to
Benchmark.exe – an official benchmarking tool

From what i understand, it is a tooll with simple window that looks like this (not my screenshot):

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UFHOpoK6KUh2adFJfFxukw6IlifkYtCo/view?usp=sharing

After you setup the settings and click RUN, the tool starts MetroExodus.exe with some additional parameters. Steam confirms it with a window where all the parameters are showed and asks you for confirmation. After you click OK, the game starts.

From my point of view, VorpX should attach to the benchmark, because it’s basically MetroExodus.exe which runs the benchmark and to which VorpX succesfully attaches when i run the game itself. Any idea why it won’t attach?

I would like to create a new topic for Metro Exodus as i din’t find anything relevant and the Metro Redux topic is about something completely different.

So i spent last few hours playing with Metro Benchmark on flat screen to see what settings should i await for a playable VorpX experience (i5 6600, 16GB RAM, GTX 1060 6GB). Seems like the lowest settings should work (average 125 FPS @1080p).

First VorpX didn’t attached at all but i found out that changing the game to DX11 worked. So DX12 isn’t working for me, but it has to be changed manualy.

Now i’m trying to attach to the benchmark.exe which let’s you set up your game settings and after you hit “run”, the game runs MetroExodus.exe with some additional parameters. VorpX doesn’t attach with the original profile, so i created a new one (copy of the original) and attached the Benchmark.exe to it. It doesn’t work either.

Is there a way to run the benchmark with VorpX at all?

I finished LL and it was awesome. Before i get to play Exodus for the first time i want to try the original Metro 2033. Everytime i set the ingame option to DX11, G3D stops working and only Z3D are available. Does it mean G3D doesn’t support DX11 in this game? I was using the official profile. I would like to use the DX11 because the performance is better compared to DX9.

I also tried to use my G2 controllers but the A, B, X, Y buttons and the “grab” buttons doesn’t work in the game. Also the controllers are showing some WMR controllers instead of G2’s. Is there anything i can do to make the buttons work?

Hi Ralf, thanks a lot for your precious explanation and prompt reply. Yesterday evening I did a reset to default and all my Metro games (Redux and Exodus) are both listened under Restore Game Settings. I also checked the game config file and the FOV line has been changed from default to Vorpx one (59.something to 83). Unfortunately I don’t have original Metro game (I also tried to buy a “base” copy online but it seems that only Redux version is available).
I suppose I need to play with game settings in order to have a good balance between performance and eye candy.
Just one more question. Yesterday I switched from G3D to Z-Adaptive and performance were absolutely perfect also with High settings and a res of 2880×2160 (so even if is not like G3D it is a very good mode with a perfect balance between immersion/graphic/performance).
The “problem” is when I switch from G3D to Z-Adaptive, the scenery colours become more darker and zoom effect seems to be more pronounced like the screen is pushed on my face. May I ask you advices on how mend that darker colours (maybe play with game gamma setting?) and avoid that zoom effect (maybe work with FOV into ini file by increasing it?). Moreover, in order to increase image quality, I try to create from custom resolution a 3200×2400 but when I make the test windows freezed and I have to restart PC (even if I set 60Hz instead of my 144Hz). There are other higher custom resolution (over 2880×2160) which I can try?
Thanks a lot again for your kind support!

    shadow warior 1 G3D
    outlast 2 G3D
    mortal shell G3D
    borderlands 3 G3D
    metro exodus G3D

for all games except shadow warrior, i’m playing medium settings with 1920*1440 resolution.
not silky smooth but fully playable.

those are the games i’ve been busy with lately ^^

but to fully enjoy them i had to upgrade my computer and now i have a kickass one.

i wanted to play shadow warrior 2 but it runs so slow in G3D even on lowest settings, i think this game is very poorly optimized.

    Hey everyone,

So made a thread earlier in 2020 when lockdown started happening trying to get ideas for good games to play via Vorpx during the last year and wanted to make a new recommendation thread, if anyone was interested in posting their best Vorpx experiences.

My last thread I mentioned my favorite, before 2020, being modded 1st person Sekiro, 1st person Dark Souls 3, 1st Person Mass Effect Andromeda

So I didnt get to do as much Vorpx gaming in 2020 as I would have liked, but I would like to point out some great experiences I had in Vorpx in 2020

    So for new recommendations:

Resident Evil 7 – even with Z-Adaptive, not Geo3d. There were some issues with gun ghosting and shadows in Geo 3d for me, but Z-Adaptive didnt have those at all.

Seriously – if you were kinda bored with RE, I was too, but… this game is just a goddamn treasure and should be experienced by -ANYONE- with Vorpx. You can find it for like 8 bucks on Keys sites.

Metro Exodus was pretty fantastic as well, was happy with the direction that game took with the open world FPS design and surprised me with how well it ran in Vorpx.

Titanfall 2 – Ran incredibly smooth and just a great campaign in VR

On a more difficult recommendation, got Dark souls 2 to work in 1st person VR with Cheat Engine. That was a fun one, you could find the instructions online if you wanted to – but Id Recommend Sekiro or Dark Souls 3 before it, much easier to get up and running.

So anyone have any games they thought were particularly good to experience they want to point out in the last few months/year?

Thanks for your time and take care

    Hey everyone

Got my Reverb G2 a couple of days ago and couldn’t be happier with it.

I Decided to try VorpX yesterday since I’ve heard great things about it.

Looked forward to trying out Battlefront 2 with it since it was a supported title, but I just couldn’t get it to hook. Went back to the essential tips and looked at numerous support sections. But I just can’t get it to work. Everytime I try to start a game it just loads up on my main screen like there’s no headset.

I get no Vorpx logo or indication that it is actually interacting with the game.

    Titles I’ve tried so far:

    SW Battlefront 2
    Fallout 4
    Metro Exodus

Atleast one of these titles should work in my opinion.

I’ve tried disabling all overlays and uninstalled malwarebytes. I’ve done a reinstall of VorpX but nothing really changes.

Am i going in the wrong order?
    1. Plug in my reverb G2 power
    2. Put on headset.
    3. WMR loads with cliffhouse
    4. I start Vorpx from desktop
    5. I load the metro exodus profile from “local profiles”
    5. I start Steam VR
    6. I run the game which tells me it’s not natively supporting VR.
    7. The game loads up as a normal desktop game anyway.

    Some Specs
    Windows 10 with latest update
    Amd ryzen 7 3800x
Gigabyte RX 5700 XT with latest drivers
    32Gb Hyper X 3200mhz

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    /Jon

Hi. I just went into a trouble running Metro Exodus on Oculus Rift S and found this thread. What eventually helped me was switching the renderer API from DX12 to DX11.

only Ralf can help you, you can ask him for a for a key for a user profile. In this more custom able profiles you have much more options in the vorpx in-game menu and shader authoring.

Have you tried the profile of Metro Exodus ?

    Lots of problems

I’m having a hard time getting VorpX to work.

    – some games don’t hook, even why I try with a helper, even officially supported games, f.e. Metro Exodus.

    – when a game hooks and I try Full VR, f.e. Outlast 1, the graphics look very bad with a lot of noise? (Maybe because that game is old?)

    – if the game hooks, and visuals are good, then I always have another problem no matter which mode (full VR or immersive screen) : my Xbox controller doesn’t work at all, or works with a wrong layout.
VorpX is by default using my Quest 2 controllers as “KB/mouse”. I have to remove the battery from the controllers to get the Xbox gamepad to work. But the gamepad is then used as “KB/mouse” and the game thinks I’m using KB/mouse (while playing I see “now press F to do action blabla”). And some gamepad buttons don’t even work or some actions can’t be done with the gamepad (although with the normal gamepad layout, it’s possible).
If I change controller settings in the in-game VorpX menu to “gamepad”, the gamepad isn’t doing anything. And when I set controllers to “Off”, again nothing. Only “KB/mouse” makes the gamepad work (but like I mentioned already : only with a wrong gamepad layout and not every button works).

    – one last thing : when G3D / geometry isn’t available, it doesn’t matter whether I choose Z-normal or Z-adaptive or Off: in all three cases I have zero 3D effect whatsoever. I tried this with several games. Only Geometry provides a 3D effect, the other not even a little bit. It’s not about missing a subtle change, I tested and tested again and again and could only see flat, 2D graphics. I’ve played with FOV, zoom, the 3D depth slider, etc, etc, always flat?!
There also was one game: Bright Memory which should support Geometry but when I enabled it, the right eye could only see the HUD on a black background. Z-adaptive and normal gave flat graphics again and controller didn’t work well as usual. :)

I hate to say this but I haven’t been able to make it work well with even one, single game. :(

I’m using the latest v20.x version (downloaded very recently).

For the dx11 version of the game, you can use the Unity base profile for G3D. For Z3D you can use Metro Exodus.

Mirror’s edge is just amazing with Vorpx and I’ve been playing through that.

Gearing up to play through Metro Exodus as soon as I get my RTX 3080.

    Cheers

There’s no G3D with the Metro Exodus profile but it appears to work with z-normal/adaptive on very low settings. I really haven’t had the time to play with it to see if it’s stable or not.

The subnautica profile simply does not work on my PC. All modes, including disabled, appear exactly the same. It looks exactly the same as if I were running it in virtual desktop. Maybe there’s an issue with anti-aliasing or difference between amd/nvidia gpu’s, but there should be a distinct difference between reconstruction disabled and any other mode that’s working.

The Subnautica rift profile does make PD Remake 3D though, you just can’t adjust the intensity of it. With the Metro Exodus profile can you adjust the strength of the 3D, or is it fixed?
