Topic: How to backup absolut all current vorpx settings?
in forum Technical Support
kraut2ParticipantHi,
after trying endless to get working head tracking settings for IL2 1946 BAT settings I found today by pure luck some very godd settings.
For backup:
-I backed up all IL2 , Joystick and Opentrack settings
-I saved the local VorpX profile on my computer.
-But I think there are other VorpX settings not stored in the local profile.
How can I backup all other current VorpX Settings?
Best regardsAug 23, 2021 at 4:16pm #205812In reply to: Steam Store Question
RJK_ParticipantIIRC You would be still forced to register at “Steam” though, otherwise you wouldnt be able to make a purchase. Besides “Steam” forces customers to reveal personal data. In my eyes selling something on “Steam” always puts a bad light on a seller.
I am in strong doubt that “Steam” users do not know how to use google and find VorpX, so that potentional you mentioned i would kindly call a pure guess. Though you name it: “Steam” makes cash on every seller. Too much ! I would strongly advice Ralf not to deal with “Steam”. Nvidia doesnt, Wallmart doesnt either, the Helixvision guys probably do just because they havent found an easier way. The way VorpX is beeing sold is just perfect, no mess with third party crap.Never touch an running system !

RalfKeymasterI’ll definitely check whether something similar will be possible for Cyberpunk 2077. Can’t say anything useful in that respect though since I haven’t really done any research yet.
On a sidenote: tinkering with timing functions almost certainly trips off anticheat software. Only use stuff like that in pure single player games without any online component.
May 16, 2021 at 12:10pm #204083Topic: Vorpx freezes in game and kicks out Quest 2Air Link
in forum Technical Support
IanhopwoodParticipantHi all, new vorpx user here
I purchased vorpx last week after having watched numerous youtube videos and lurking on the forums.
Everything installed and I can pull up the desktop viewer, vorpx starts and also the configuration utility boots up
However, when I start any game with a vorpx profile, for example dishonored (without steam VR running), the intros run in 3d and I can boot into the game, but when I have played just a few seconds (which look absolutely amazing in 3d) the game freezes, and then the link between my oculus and pc drops out (this happens with a physical cable and also through the new air link feature on the quest 2). The same happens with Crysis 3 which I have on my origin account.
If I am playing a native steam VR game (eg the Talos principle) I can play without any dropouts, so I am assuming the link is good.
I have looked through the various help sections but nothing seems to apply. I have completely uninstalled my AVG antivirus, logged out of my VPN and have also uninstalled any hardware utilities such as HW monitor; GPUZ etc. I cannot see any other software that to my mind be interfering but am assuming there is still something running in the background which is causing conflicts.
It is really frustrating as I feel I am so close to getting everything working.
I am now thinking of buying another SSD and having a dual boot windows 10 PC with the new installation being for purely VR/Vorpx games with nothing other than the OS and necessary programs on.
Any help you can think of would be greatly appreciated
Ian
May 8, 2021 at 2:23pm #203708In reply to: EAC – Email from Support Team
RalfKeymasterThe only way to make it work officially would be disabling all 3D functionality and let vorpX act as pure overlay, which doesn’t really make much sense since I’d have to disable pretty much everything with EAC except showing the game in the headset
Your two options for anticheat games are either finding a way around the anticheat or using the vorpX desktop viewer to play the game windowed/borderless. The latter provides a similar experience to what vorpX could do if it was allowed to hook into EAC games, so you won’t really miss much.

RJK_ParticipantThose js plugins are pure memory eater. I think its that autooptimize script with more then 2000 lines of code that slows down the site somehow. Plus all the other scripts you will probably have a few Mb to download before the site displays properly. The site is slower as the old one on this end as well, but nothing really worth to complain about.
Apr 24, 2021 at 5:41pm #202152In reply to: Oculus Air Link
moarveerParticipantI’ve tried Air Link today and it works really well, it feels even better than VD. Tested just briefly with Elder Scrolls Online, and it was fantastic, absolutely perfect. At 200mb bandwith it looked almost on par with Oculus Link cable in terms of image quality and smooth tracking, for some reason it seemed to look better than ever, I don’t know if a Vorpx update that just installed had something to do with it, but it was great.
I tested it with Vorpx and SteamVR. I know that I should be using Oculus mode instead, but since I like to play Vorpx with Cybershoes, which require games to run on SteamVR, I prefer to use SteamVR instead. I had performance problems before with ESO and SteamVR with Vorpx, but that seems fixed now for whatever reason.
Really, Air Link puts PC VR and specially Vorpx on console level of accesibility. Turn on Quest 2, a message pops up that your PC is detected by Air Link, click pop up, load Oculus PC, select desktop, run PC game, there you go, it takes 2 minutes, all with no cables, no setup, it’s fantastic, just pure instant pick up and play pc vr.

ToxicMikeParticipantIf Warzone had anti-cheat, it would be worth playing.
And then we couldn’t play it.
Ah, the sweet irony.
I still wonder what makes people so hooked with those multiplayer-only titles, first of all they are everything else but “long-term-fun”, not to mention that i don´t think they´re a good way of having a what i call a “relaxed gaming evening”.
All you actually do is running around in circles mostly, trying not to get killed while trying to kill others asap…hopefully before the timer runs out or the others got a higher score….oh and how could i forget about all the cheaters, making the complete experience kinda useless to begin with so i rather play with dumb bots.
I tried them all, no matter if it´s Battle-Royale-Crap, Battlefield DMs/CTF etc. etc., they all ended up with me de-installing them at having a playtime of approx. 90 Hours max, unbelievable how someone can get 1000+ hours of “pure fun”.
The same goes for co-op games of any kind, games these days are way too easy anyway so how boring could it be to complete missions with a group of players i can as well pull off on my own, especially when it´s a game with the difficulty-level not changing once co-op players have joined.

RalfKeymasterIn Cyberpunk 2077 its capped for performance reasons. Maybe in a year or two when faster GPUs are more widespread the profile will be changed. A higher FOV can have a fairly huge impact on performance, especially in cutting edge games that draw a lot of things on the screen.
The way vorpX handles the setting of FOV and resolution for the game always ensures that the screen is fully utilized horizontically, just vertically a little bit is missing. The visible cutoff you experience horizontically is purely caused by your removal of the face gasket. Horizontically you simply see the physical screen edges, more zoom wouldn’t change that.

OvoParticipantRalf, I’m sorry you took my message so wrong, there wasn’t any intent of provocation, re-reading it I don’t really see why it was taken that way, but text can often be misinterpreted, especially when coming from non-native speakers like me. I was just trying to provide advice on how to mentally approach the situation in a way that would benefit you and us both based on your expressed sentiment. It was purely positive in my mind.
Aug 3, 2020 at 9:04am #196345In reply to: Oculus Quest vs Rift S for vorpx
RalfKeymasterMy recommendation would be to go with a Rift S for pure vorpX/PC usage. The only advantage of the Quest for PC VR would be its better contrast (blacker black) due to OLED vs LCD in Rift S. On the other hand the Rift’s LCD is sharper (real RGB subpixels vs. ‘pentile’) and you get less latency since there is no additional image compression/decompression step involved like with Quest when you connect it to a PC. Also Quest is heavier due to the additional hardware and battery, making Rift more comfortable to wear, especially in longer sessions.
In a nutshell: Quest is great if wireless matters to you, but if you want to do wired PC VR/vorpX only, the Rift-S is clearly the better choice in my opinion.

vulcan78ParticipantThat explains a lot. Guess I don’t have to wonder anymore how that myth arised. Considering the author of that post all I’ll say is that half-baked superficial knowledge combined with strong opinions and the drive to share one’s ‘wisdom’ with the world is probably the most dangerous thing developed by mankind besides maybe the hydrogen bomb. Luckily in this case the only harm done was causing confusion among a stereo 3D community. ;)
I have no reason to defend nVidia, but imagine the following simplified scenario: a CPU with two cores and a game using two threads, one for rendering, one for physics. In mono both threads each fully utilize ‘their’ core, overall CPU usage 100%. Now, again for the sake of simplicity, let’s say stereo rendering doubles the CPU workload of the render thread, causing the framerate to drop to half purely due to the higher CPU workload. The first thread (rendering) would still fully utilize its core, but the second thread (physics) now would only have to utilize 50% of its core since only half the frames need physics calculated compared to before. Result: instead of 100% CPU usage mono you get 75% CPU usage with stereo.
No mysterious ‘3 core bug’ anywhere, everything working as expected. The ‘culprit’ is the added stereo workload on the render thread, as simple as that. The numbers will differ in a real world example and vary from game to game, but I hope you get the idea.
If this were the case of a thread responsible for rendering frames being saturated and needing to offload some of it’s workload onto another thread then we would see this problem running the game in 2D at 120 FPS but this isn’t the case with 3D Vision. Example, say I run GTA 5, Prey or Rise of the Tomb Raider in a CPU intensive area (DX11) @ 120 FPS in 2D, everything maxed, at 2560×1440 with 2080 Ti and 8700k @ 5.1 GHz no problem, but 3D performance is, it’s like 1/3rd, an abysmal 40 FPS, or 80 FPS 2D. Even DX11 has the ability to use more than 4 cores / 8 threads for rendering, i.e. Crysis 2 / 3 or Watchdogs 2 for example, which sees even distribution of workload across CPU’s of greater core count. 3D Vision actually limits the game to only being able to run on 3 physical cores for some odd reason, so an 8700k would yield 0% performance advantage over 7700k and even 7700k would be down a core trying to process any game. I get and appreciate your logic that rendering would actually decrease the CPU load (because physics being done on a single thread would have reduced workload) but that’s not what I’m describing, 3D Vision limits the number of available physical cores to 3 cores for some odd reason, the technical nature of which escapes me right now. There is around a 50% drop in performance due to 3 core bug. For example, I can run a game @ 120 FPS with full load on the GPU in 2D but because 3 core bug limits the number of physical cores available to 3 in 3D those 3 cores may be incapable of rendering the game at 120 FPS (even the the effect renders @ 60 FPS there are still 120 frames being created simultaneously, one for each eye). Usually a CPU demanding title that I can run at 120 FPS avg with full / near full usage on the GPU will only run at 40 FPS, a performance drop of 40 FPS 2D.

May 19, 2020 at 12:32am #194704In reply to: Attaching VorpX to Graphics Driver?
RalfKeymasterThat was pure speculation, sorry for the confusion. What I said was that it *theoretically* *might* be possible to do something like that instead of hooking into documented APIs like DirectX or OpenGL. That’s not something vorpX currently does though. Would also require a lot knowledge that only nVidia/AMD have since they don’t document the inner workings of their drivers.

Hi,
after trying endless to get working head tracking settings for IL2 1946 BAT settings I found today by pure luck some very godd settings.
For backup:
-I backed up all IL2 , Joystick and Opentrack settings
-I saved the local VorpX profile on my computer.
-But I think there are other VorpX settings not stored in the local profile.
How can I backup all other current VorpX Settings?
Best regardsHi all, new vorpx user here
I purchased vorpx last week after having watched numerous youtube videos and lurking on the forums.
Ian
