    VorpX doesn’t seem to be launching games in my HTC Vive. When I launch a game, I can see that VorpX is attaching to the .exe but once the game launches, my monitor gets a black screen saying “Out of Range”. I can still hear the game audio but there’s no game running in my Vive headset. If I alt tab from the black screen on my desktop, it will alt tab to the game in windowed mode. I can hear the games audio throughout the whole process.

    I’ve tried running VorpX in admin controlled mode, disabled SteamVR Theater mode both in steam settings and for individual game settings but have h ad no success. Would anybody happen to have a solution to this issue?

    Games I’ve tested with: Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Village.

    Hope someone can help, thanks!

    Hello, many years ago when I first bought VorpX back in 2017, I was getting games to run completely fine in VorpX. However, now when I try to run any game at all (Resident Evil 2, 3, 7, Village), my monitor receives a black screen with a message saying “Out of Range”. The game doesn’t seem to launch in my HTC Vive as I’m still in the SteamVR room in my headset.
    If I alt tab on my desktop while I see the black screen, it will alt tab out of the black screen back to my desktop and show a windowed version of current game I’m trying to run. I can hear the in-game audio too, it just doesn’t seem to be launching the game in my Vive.
    I should note that I’ve upgraded from a 1080 GPU to a RTX 4080.
    If there’s any more information I can provide to help get to a solution, please feel free to let me know. In the meantime, would anybody be able to provide a solution to fix this issue? I can’t for the life of me figure this one out and I’ve been at it for over 12 hours now.

    Steps I’ve tried so far:
    Tried running VorpX as admin
    Applied game profiles
    Disabled SteamVR Theater mode, both in Steam settings and for individual games
    Restarted Steam, SteamVR, VorpX as well as my PC
    Ensured VorpX is set to “SteamVR (Index, Vive, Pimax)”

    If it behaves the same as Valhalla, you may need to turn on FSR or DLSS scaling in the game to get working Z3D (with a profile based on Grounded or Resident Evil Village, which I assume the cloud profile is based on).

    In my case I was using the best quality FSR preset, and playing the game in windowed mode. Try the different display modes and see what works for you.

    It’s probably a dx12 game, in which case you need a dx12 profile to hook.

    Grounded is another Unreal 4 dx12 game, I would try that first. Resident Evil Village also seems to have a high success rate in recent dx12 games that use FSR/dlss upscaling.

    No dx12 G3D support in vorpX yet, Z3D only.

    And yes, use the “shipping.exe” in Win64 folder, as is almost always the case with Unreal 4 games.

    I plan to pick this up sometime after it comes to Steam.

    try profiles of grounded, resident evil village, starfield, red dead redemption 2 and if everything fails the “vorpx sbs-base-profile” with reshade 3D

    You need a profile that matches ! First try Elden Ring and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

    After that, step by step all other profiles for games from FROM Software.

    The Engine doesn’t really have a name. It’s a somewhat heavily modified version of the PhyreEngine which is a freeware engine provided by Sony with a lot of custom stuff added onto it. They also used Havok for physics in DeS, DS1 and DS2 however that doesn’t seem be the case for BB, DS3, Sekiro and Elden Ring. Sadly there isn’t really much information about it.

    But many people say that’s a myth unfortunately !

    But you can even try resident evil village, grounded, starfield, cyberpunk77 and Red Dead Redemption. because it is dx12 game in general !

    Just in case: remember to not include the ()’s in the FOV settings. They should look like this:

    [Camera]
    fFPWorldFOV=130
    fTPWorldFOV=130

    And notice there are 2 separate ini files. StarfieldPrefs.ini and StarfieldCustom.ini. The Custom one needs to be created from scratch into the same folder as the Prefs one. Each needs it’s own [Dispaly] section and lines as listed in Daves post.

    Thanks Dave for figuring things out. I’m not sure you really need the hex edit though. I used it initially, but changed back to my original backup and it seems to behave the same. I think the
    fWideAspectLimit=1.0 does the trick on it’s own – no black bars. I set mine to 1.33 though to use a 4:3 res (3200×2400)

    The vanilla FSR2 works fine with my Z3D, though certain scale factors can mess it up. Like the slider default 67% works fine at 3200×2400, but garbled at 2880×2160, which I set to 80% to fix. I’m using the Grounded profile as a base. Resident Evil Village works also, but I found the depth weighting a bit too strong at minimum. It would still be great to get a real one from Ralf with Starfield specific values though.

    Anyhow, fun so far. Tonight was mainly testing, but tomorrow will start the journey.

    Perhaps the there is a launch Parameter option for DX11, that would be bombastic! Imagine we will have Starfield in G3D ? With a dx11 option we can try to fix the old profiles of Fallout and Skyrim, until Ralf releases a official vorpx profile. For dx12 only i will try profiles of Resident Evil Village first, followed by Death Stranding, Cyberpunk 2077, and RDR2.

    Clicking ok & save does not solve the issue. I check click & save constantly and it never saves my hud VP settings. Never. I have to reset the profile every time I start the game. These are profiles I’ve changed settings on. One is the geometry 3-D profile for Resident Evil 0. I’m currently using that profile for Dead Or Alive 5. I have some others but I’m not sure what the original profiles were. I uploaded a G3-D profile for Dead Or Alive 6 but found out after the fact that it hadn’t saved my Hud settings. So anyone who down loads that profile will get a black screen until they go in change the Hud settings. It’s been very frustrating.

    Thanks for the profiles Dave, most of those are on my wishlist to play soon.

    I’ve been playing AC: Valhalla recently also, using the profiles from Resident Evil Village and Grounded. I discovered that on my system, any depth buffer issues went away as soon as I enabled the FSR upscaler built into the game. I’m not sure if this is something they added later, or if changes to the vorpX beta made this possible, but it’s great to play this now in Z3D.

    The only strange thing is that the HUD shaders are not found by the shader tool scanner, and therefore can’t be assigned for adjustments. Quite unusual.

    One more hint for any who like to play in fullVR view like I do: FOV can be increased much further by editing the ACValhalla.ini found in C:\Users\(Name)\Documents\Assassin’s Creed Valhalla… I set my value to:

    FOVScale=1.90000
    AutoFOV=0

    Note however that anytime you open the video options menu in game, this value will be reset to default. So it’s important to get all of your graphics settings set on your first launch, and then edit this ini lastly before you relaunch the game. As long as you remember to never open the settings menu again, you won’t have to change it ever again.

    TLDR: Z3D might require vorpX beta and use FSR upscale setting in game.

    Strange Brigade( DirectX 12 and Vulkan) but i was hoping Vulkan was some sort of Brand of Dx11 ?? maybe?? As for Resident evil 4 some people in the community made their own profiles, i was hoping “if Possible” a VorpX Official profile could be made..as for full VR ..No..i like using Immersion Screen ,3rd person 3d look..(if im even naming the 3d setting correctly)..regardless i like using VorpX even if the profile is flat..was just hoping for the impossible i guess, but thanks for your reply…

    Profile based on Resident Evil 4 Remake.
    Cloud Name: Resident Evil 4 Remake Grupo Español Vorpx.
    Full VR, Z3D.
    I recommend a resolution of 2880 x 2160.
    To increase the FOV use this (I used 140 or 150 degrees): https://www.nexusmods.com/residentevil42023/mods/123
