When VorpX is running, every game i try to start crashes. No exceptions.
As far as i can tell the crash happens always when the game initializes the graphics.

Windows 10
Nvidia 780ti, 350.12 driver

VorpX 0.9
I have no virusscanners, DX-hooks of any sort or other programs running as described in the “Basic Trouble Shooting – Please Read This First!” post.
Unless you count steam, but that’s a mandatory program.
I’ve tried uninstall and reinstall of VorpX and running as an admin.
I wanted to report that I’ve been playing Fallout 4 basically exclusively with the Oculus and vorpX (went through he tutorial in 2D until I could see all the parts of the HUD to make sure I wasn’t missing anything when switching to 3D).
The Z3D mode works surprisingly well. Not the crappy Z3D I remember from the “old days” of Nvidia 3D Vision with Cryengine games. I cranked the seperation in the vorpX settings and moved the slider all the way to the foreground. Depth is great, there is some Z3D induced shimmering around close foreground objects (e.g. your weapon or close in characters). The HUD seems to be put at the depth of the background. That actually helps make it easy to aim and read though at the cost of some of the text being a bit disjointed at times as it rolls over different objects. Nothing that will stop your from reading it.
I settled on 130 FOV for first person with 1:1 Pixel mode and the image zoomed all the way in. If you want to be able to see the compass at the bottom of the screen, just zoom the image out a bit (just a few Shift+Mousewheel clicks) though I find that makes terminals a bit harder to read. Maybe you can compensate with less FOV. With these settings, I tend to zoom out (middle mouse button) for crafting, building, or trading where I need to see the full HUD across the entire screen.
The FOV command in the ~ console actually controls the FOV for your gun and PIP Boy. So you can set the PIP boy “size” independent of your game FOV, which is nice. You can make it readable no matter game FOV you use.
I would also recommend taking out the mouse smoothing and adjusting the vertical mouse sensitivity as described in that same Steam guide (linked above) before adjusting your headtracking sensitivity in the vorpX settings.
So a few things to tweak, but it works great! Thanks for the early support, vorpX!
But I guess that was a mistake, because “DXQuake” is a DirectX 8 version of Quake, and Vorpx …
Anyway, if there’s no Directx9 version: I do have the OpenGL version of Quake, but it doesn’t work properly (one of the Oculus lenses is always red, Vorpx even shows a message that says “recommended resolution: 1920×1080”, But I already changed the resolution to that (Vorpx even shows that I am using the 1920×1080 resolution already, but it stills recommend 1920×1080)
Another alternative is buying Quake on Steam. But I don’t know if it works with Vorpx…
So, I have 3 options:
1-Find the correct DX9 versions of Quake
2-Make the OpenGL version I already have work properly
3-Buy the updated game on Steam
I’m OK with any of them, I just want to know if anyone can help me make the game work properly (If not, then can someone confirm that the Steam version works with Vorpx 9?)
Sure, there’s a trick you can do sometimes. If you know the game engine, you can rename the exe to an exe that has a vorpx profile. If your lucky you can find one that hooks(will need adjusting but getting it to hook is the most important). Sometimes steam can get pissy about it, so just tinker a bit and you mite get one that works good with Kholat. So find a game that uses U4 and change kholats exe to the working U4 games exe and see if you can “fool” vorpx into hooking up. If you find one that hooks let us know :)
It’s really best to have an Antivirus you have some control over. Some AV by default make all of the decisions without asking you and the result is the problem you’re having.
I use Comodo internet security and have it ask me before taking actions but even then it still makes bad choices and deletes a program that’s perfectly safe once in a while. Most AV software have a feature where you can add a particular program to safe list. There have been times when the only way I could install a certain program was to close comodo down completely, then install the program, then start comodo again. Some AV have a much higher rate of false positives: Norton for example. I also had severe problems with Bitdefender about 4 years ago. It was stopping some Steam games running even when they were added to its safe list!
Could you add an “inclusion” part to the vorpX configuration so we could manually add .exe’s that aren’t officially supported. Or is there another way in windows to make link’s or shortcuts to fool vorpx?
For example I tried running the talos principle demo with vorpX but it didn’t work because the .exe is named differently and most steam games won’t run if you try to change them.
You wont be required to sell your games and software through the Oculus Store for the PC. They have have already publicly stated so. It smart to sell games through distribution platforms like the Oculus Store and Steam because they function as advertising, hosting and DRM for your your game but you can sell as many places as you want. Also side-loading on the Gear VR isn’t impossible. Its already been done with SideloadVR.
If vorpX doesn’t hook into any game, there almost certainly is something on your PC that interferes with vorpX.
Just in case you didn’t try that already, please try running vorpX as administrator, in some cases that may be needed. For example if you also run games with admin rights for some reason. Also try do create vorpX desktop shortcuts to your games (right click the tray icon, choose “Create desktop shortcut”. Doesn’t work with Steam games, but hooks more reliable than the auto detection in some cases.
If nothing helps, please send a mail to support |at| vorpx com for some individual trouble shooting. Please include the below things so we can check whether maybe you overlooked something.
1. System specs (CPU, RAM, graphics card etc.)
2. A dxdiag.txt (run dxdiag.exe to create it)
3. A screenshot of your task manager showing all running processes
If that is an option for you, a fresh Windows install may also be worth a try.
BTW: Please do not spam the forum, everything is read. I merged your two latest threads into this one.
I’d say that’d be good to have in the troubleshooting – I’d checked VorpX and the games I was running, but I would have never have thought to check Steam’s priviledge level!!
I’ve got a DK2, and everything that supports it natively outside of VorpX is working fine.
I’ve bought and installed the latest version of VorpX, and… it does nothing. I’ve followed all the setup guides, confirmed VorpX is actually running, disabled and unplugged everything I’m not using, quit all programs, disabled AV, turned off steam overlay, made links, tried primary and non-primary, and any number of other things I’ve found posted about.
I’ve tried it in a dozen odd games – they all just render as normal in 1080p and pressing del does absolutely nothing. Nothing is logged by the service into the event logs.
I’m using Windows 8.1 Pro (x64). I do have 2 x GTX 780 Ti in SLI, but have currently unplugged all of the extra monitors except for my main, and disabled SLI in the GeForce control panel. I haven’t gone as far as to physically remove the extra graphics card from the PC.
(As an aside, if I set VorpX to run as an administrator in the options, it crashes immediately with a 0xc0000005 exception code.)
It picks up the DK2 correctly as it alerts if you’re in direct mode etc, and it’s definitely attempting to hook into the dlls, because when I have it running, Outlook 2013 (which uses DirectX) crashes immediately on launch..
Normally the game should hook just like others. If it doesn’t in your case, please try/check the things below.
Try to disable your virus scanner to make sure it does not interfere
Check for other possibly interfering programs. The trouble shooting guide in the vorpX help has a few hints in this regard.
Try to create a vorpX desktop shortcut to the Arma3 main .exe (right click the vorpX tray icon, choose “Create Desktop Shortcut”). This does not work with all games (especially Steam/Origin/Uplay games), but if it does, it hooks more reliable than the auto detection.
Try running vorpX as administrator. Generally this is not recommended, but may help in some cases (for example it’s necessary if the game also is started with admin rights).
BTW: For serious Arma 3 playing, I can highly recommend the below in depth setup tutorial. Doesn’t solve your issue, but helps to create the best possible experience once you got it basically running. Quite a bit of work, but pays off.
Since the Steam summer sale is going on right now, it would be cool to see what games are currently being worked with for VR implementation so you could potentially buy them while they’re on sale. It’d also just be a nice thing to keep people’s interest and let them know that VorpX is being actively maintained, as well as keep the people in the wish list thread hyped up. I think everyone is curious about the way VorpX is progressing.
Thanks grumdark for the suggestion on MSAA however it still wont kick in to stereo 3d. I am not sure the 3d-z is working in other games either for me. Is farCry 4 a zbuffer game? If it is I also get no 3d. Also no luck with Metro 2033 redux. Geometry works fine where that is applicable. As you can see, I bought a lot of games on Steam’s summer sale to try with Vorpx :). So far Mirrors edge works well in geometry as well as Borderlands. I guess I could switch those to z-3d and see what happens. ill report back once I try them.
Ok… I am starting this project because I am so annyed those games in Steam that informs that it have VR support and after buying the game and few hours of hassle ending up to find from forums that VR support is dropped because it is not possible to run with DK2 motion tracking :/ or some other problems that cannot be solved…
So I have wondered that I have got many games still Run on 1980×1080 in DK2 but there is no head tracking at all… :/ also looking up or down is unpossible even with controller because up and down is locked to avoid nausea in DK1..
So my question is that has WorpX team ever got this in their minds? or am I the only person in the world that thinks there is a way to make DK2 emulated to DK1 and all old demos and full games like Kairo, Dream and many other would be playable with native support again! :) (with little bit of nausea without motion tracking of cource) but that would still be worth it!
If VorpX team got something similar on their sleaves I will wait… if not, that is going to be loooong week with lots of red bull :D
