Does anyone have step by step instructions for some games? I tried searching the forum and only come up with some old stuff for DK2, and I have the CV1.
Alien Isolation, and Left 4 Dead 2, both give me super zoomed-in menus where I can’t see anything properly.
Then, once I got into A:I the motion was reversed. I move my head left, screen goes right. Then, the height is all weird.
I thought this $40 purchase was touted as the “plug and play” version of this kind of software…. what happened?
I would think that each game would already have a sticky, where people can go and just follow the steps. Or a wiki or something.
Anyway, please share some got simple, step-by-step instructions for Left 4 Dead 2, Alien Isolation, Witcher 3, Star Citizen, Assetto Corsa, Dirt Rally, Project Cars, Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Dear Esther.

    Thank you!

Take advantage of the Vorpx controller emulation. I went to the key binding section of the Alien Isolation options menu for reference. Then using the Vorpx in game menu I mapped each key/mouse button to the button I wanted on my 360 controller. (I click my left thumbstick to pull out into EdgePeek for instance)

I have Override Xbox Controller set to FULL in the Vorpx in game menu. The head tracking works great and the L and R sticks work just like I’m playing w/o a HMD. Make sure and set stick sensitivity as well, mine was way too high by default. If the shadows can be fixed in Geometry 3D mode we would be set. Oculus CV1 latest version of Vorpx

Thanks for the quick reply. I’m able to play in Z-normal and z-adaptive just fine, but like you said Geometry 3d has the lighting issue. I’m really enjoying Alien Isolation in Z3D but I feel like Geometry has the best 3D effect and It bothers me that I can’t use it. Any suggestions or fixes?

I am unable to use vorpx in most games, they give me an error –

Cannot find EXE or missing file in several games, GTAV, BF4, Arma disables vorpx due to being unable to find the files. I tried admin on both, different versions – x86 etc with no luck.

Skyrim works, alien isolation kind of works but with unfixable distortion.

    Hello,
been playing Alien Isolation for hours. It runs great in general, but there is some problem with some of the lights/or shadows: it is rendered only “for one eye”. Reducing 3D seperation in geometry mode to 0 eliminates this problem, but of course also the 3d effect. It`s a weird to look at such illuminated objects / walls, and after searching the internet there are many people who have this problem, nvida and ati hardware likewise. and i didnt find any solution. using vive, but problem seems to have already existed on rift dk1/2.

-in my case, i had to put the game in “windowed” mode. Otherwise it didn’t start with vorpX. This could be an important hint, because i tried a lot resolutions, because i thought this could be the problem.

-in “z-normal” the head tracking did not work

-in “3d geometry” it works, but it works wrong. I can’t turn my head left/right, just up/down front/back. But for a raceing game I need of course left/right.

-but the most problem is, that in “3d geometry” i see everything twice :-( and i couldn’t solve it with addjusting with Seperation/3D-Strength. In theater-mode it was great. 3d worked and i saw nothing doubled.

-positive to mention: the performance is great! I run it in 1920×1080 AA Lvl 8 and it runs great (i5 4590; r9 390OC)

But unfortunately its unplayable when headtracking doesn’t work and i see everything twice.
Any ideas, how to fix this?

edit: and for the left eye the speed indicator is white (correct) and for the left eye it’s black. Similar issue I had at Alien Isolation

I purchased VORPX for my HTC Vive too and it is an interesting experience – however, only half of the games I’ve tried are working :

    1) GTA V will not work : after seeing the GTA Launcher, I get a message “GTA5.exe not found, please re-install the game”. But that only happens when VORPX is loaded, otherwise it launches fine.
    2) Deus Ex : with all settings to minimum and a very low resolution, I barely get 10 fps (although I have a GTX 980 ti and good CPU too).
    3) Talos Principle : will not launch, I get a “Croteam crash reporter” (but then again, that is only if VORPX is loaded in memory)
    4) Portal 1 and Half Life 2 will simply load normally on my screen and do not even show in the Vive.

Otherwise, Mass Effect 2, Portal 2, Alien Isolation and Mirrors Edge work fine …

I understand we are still Beta but was wondering if anybody had same problem and found a solution ?

In general please check the Essential Hints Guide in the help. It’s more than worth your time and among other things explains how to deal with FOV (varies from game to game).

In regard to Alien Isolation please check this thread: https://www.vorpx.com/forums/topic/alien-isolation-with-oculus-cv1/

The best resolutions for vorpX are 5:4/4:3 resolutions. 1280×1024 or 1600×1200, depending on how well a game performs.

    Hello all,

Complete newbie here to the oculus rift and the vorpx software.

    Don’t judge too hard…

Anyhow, I bought Vorpx to play titles on the rift and mainly alien isolation.

When I start alien isolation, it is so zoomed I can hardly make anything out and definitely cannot change settings?

    How do I fix this?

Also, I would like to set my games resolution to match the max for the rift..: this is usually not an option in these games…

Anyone know a fix for this as well?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance,
    Layne

Image Zoom is a function of vorpX. You can find on the image page of the vorpX ingame menu.

Please check the Essential Game Hints Guide in the help for this and other important infos that help you get things going.

FOV can be changed with an ini tweak: http://www.pcinvasion.com/how-to-increase-the-fov-in-alien-isolation-and-remove-intros

The best resolutions for vorpX are 5:4/4:3 resolutions. 1280×1024 or 1600×1200 if a game runs fast enough with that.

Hey guys, first post here. Just got VorpX and decided to try alien isolation.

After fiddling around with image zoom and fov config addition inside alien isolations file explained here This is very close to being perfect.
The only thing right now is i have no way of making the HUD fit the lense properly so the important info like health and weapon etc and other text sit in areas that is not really readable. If there was a way to make the hud fit the lenses, it would spot on. Few graphical glitches with dynamic shadow/light projection not being the same in each eye but thats the game engines fault i am sure.
Other than that, this is pretty damn awesome. Nice work Ralf :)

Might be one of the games that do not allow mouse (used for head tracking) and gamepad input at the same time. Probably solvable by using the vorpX gamepad emulation instead of the native gamepad support. You can configure it in the vorpX ingame menu.

OK, I so want to try out Alien isolation with my Oculus CV1 Everything seems to be working out, but a few hiccups seem to be troubling and I was wondering if I could get some help with settings.

    1) the head tracking works ok, but as soon as I move (using the XBox pad that came with the Oculus) my head tracking stops. (game keeps going but now head tracking is not available)
    2) to get the proper zoom I end up with a letter box. Does anyone know what the Alien isolation FOV setting should be set at to allow me to select a 4:3 ratio?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi

Just one question. Since Alien Isolation has native OR support programmed into it’s engine, why do you want to play it with VorpX? I play it without VorpX and works like a charm. Try it this way if you have issues.

Sorry probably a stupid question … so this works with CV 1 without vorpx ? how ?

    Thanks

There wasn’t really an “offical” native support for VR in Alien Isolation. There was the basic idea to implement VR, but it was only as a demo or test mode integrated, but only hidden. You were able to activate it by adding and/or changing some orders/parameters in config or ini files manually – and it was only working up to runtime v0.4 or v0.5 … maybe someone got it to be working up to v0.8, not sure. But as far as i know it’s not working anymore with the new needed runtime v.1.3 .
