If the more vibrant colors is what you liked about SE, you can nearly match them by adjusting the color saturation and brightness level sliders in the vorpX game menu (press Delete key while playing, arrow over to the “Image Settings” page). While you’re there, slide the sharpness up as well.

I also use the Imaginator mod from Nexus to further adjust color lighting. Grab the Enhanced Camera mod as well, great for first person pov.

If you want to further increase performance you can add a custom resolution to your SkyrimPrefs.ini like 1080×1200 or 1296×1440. These match your HMD screen ratios without waste. Also a good idea to add them to your custom resolutions list in Nvidia Control panel, and test if they will pass on your TV first.

If you do this however, you may need some additional mods to adjust the hud and dialogue system like: EZ2C Dialogue Menu, Less Intrusive HUD, SkyUI away (for easier looting), etc.

Things should look and preform pretty decent this way, it may give you enough boost to try Geometry 3D if you want.

Fallout NV should be a great starting experience! has DirectVR support with proper G3D and FOV, and full positional tracking. I’ve not tried NV but Skyrim worked great in my rift.

I find roomscale VR neat from time to time, but generally prefer to play my vorpX games seated with mouse and keyboard, and it works great! Even though I mainly use mouse input to control my head rotation the traditional way, it is still an immersive pseudo VR experience.

For me, the coolest thing VR adds to gaming is the visual sense of scale and 3D effect it adds to the game world. Mountains look massive and the horizons look distant. Forests feel layered and deep while the trees tower over head. Characters appear lifesize and intimidating as do the weapons in your hands. This is the experience vorpX can add to the way you play many of your standard games. Now that I’ve seen my games this way, I simply cannot go back to my flat 24″ monitor.

For this reason, vorpX is by far my favorite and most used VR tool, the best purchase I have made for my HMDs. While it has default profiles that work fine for many games “out of the box”, it also provides a handy in game menu tool that lets you make adjustments on the fly. Things like image zoom, 3D strength, sharpness, and color saturation. Also headtracking sensitivities, programmable hotkeys, and sometimes FOV increases. And it saves and remembers all adjustments you make to each profile. Again, quite handy, and no need for taking off the headset to edit files.

Some menu settings took a bit of testing to understand initially, but I quickly came to appreciate how each contributes, and the options they provide. It has been well worth the effort to learn, as I now quite enjoy fiddling with each new game I try. Setting them up is half the fun! Most recently for me has been the New Assassins Creed and Star Wars Battlefront games.

Not every game works well without some type of compromise (i.e. resolution vs frame rate, slight letterboxing for increased fov, Z3D vs G3D etc). But over all, the HMD experience tops the monitor for me. I’m currently using a Pimax 4k pushing 4k resolutions at a meager 30-50fps, but it looks good and clear and plays fine for me in the seated traditional way.

Just thought I’d add this perspective in case it was of interest to you.

Since you seem to have an open mind with expectations in check, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with vorpX.

    Ralf, a small request/question if I may:
Would it be possible to further increase the distance limits for Cinema mode? Or is there a vorpX file I can change these limit values in?

I’ve been playing around in Cinema mode lately and often find times when I wish the screen could zoom out further for viewing wide videos, and zoom in closer for more immersive gameplay. Currently I can get close to where I want, but not quite (still seeing the top and bottom edges at max zoom). Perhaps doubling the current near/far distances would satisfy, and leave room for higher fov HMDs soon coming.

I’m trying to simulate head movement independent of weapon direction, and with a widescreen ratio wrapping around you in cinema mode, this kind of works. Just need the screen a bit closer.

Also, perhaps an alternate edge peek mode for cinema mode. I’ve yet to find the current lap style useful and much prefer the zoomed out 3D view – Ideal for watching cutscene moments. A secondary option would be a hotkey that toggles cinema mode on and off.

Maybe the new Immersive Screen mode coming covers these things, I’m excited to see what that adds. Thanks again!

Glad to hear that did the trick, though I had hoped this wouldn’t be necessary in the retail version. Maybe Ralf can teach the driver to catch this sometime.

I agree that the Frostbite games look best at full 2.0 strength, though I tend to prefer the weighting at near minimum as this helps closer objects pop a bit more. The higher you go the deeper the distance looks but the flatter the foreground. So I start low, and slowly slide it up until the distance is just deep enough to look natural. My sweetspot for Battlefront is somewhere around 0.16 for example.

And thanks for the offer btw, but the hints come free :)

One thing you can do though, is test the single player for me and let us know if it works just as well in vorpX (good 3D and acceptable FOV). I’ve been excited to play this specifically in vr, but hesitant to purchase with the recent EA nonsense. Cheers!

I have not tried retail Battlefront 2, but I played the free beta with vorpX Z3D, also using a Battlefront 1 profile.

My experience showed I had to reset the 3D at the start of every match once I spawned by switching from fullscreen to windowed and back to fullscreen (Alt+Enter). This would refresh the resolution and 3D.

I’m was hoping this was fixed for retail, it works flawlessly in Battlefront 1 and Battlefield 1.

Maybe a proper profile could fix this.

@prinyo: isn’t that already a setting you can toggle on the general page of Configure vorpX? “show vorpX start message”

Not sure as I’ve always kept it on. I find it useful to show me the resolution it launches with, that’s how I know my custom resolutions are applied.

This is where the Edge Peek function comes in handy. Press middle mouse button and it will zoom the screen out. Press it again and it zooms back to normal (assuming you are not playing in the cinema mode).

There are settings that allow you to adjust these distances further if needed in the vorpX menus (press delete key while playing).

Did you change any game settings? I lost 3D when playing with lower AA, so far I know the highest AA works. Also check that you are using a supported resolution aspect ratio, like 5:4 or 16:10, some games don’t seem to like odd ratios.

Also try the minimize Alt+Tab trick, or Alt+Enter to toggle windowed/fullscreen or change between different resolutions. These tricks work for some games.

    Good news!!

Since we last talked about this, someone has discovered a way around the current EAC as found here:

(Not sure I can post direct link, so google search “fearless revolution EasyAntiCheat_x64.rar” should be page 11)

    1. Put Uplay in Offline mode
    2. Backup and replace EasyAntiCheat_x64.dll
    3. Add launch parameter “-eac_launcher” in steam or shortcut

    Now it Hooks!!

I’ve Uploaded a profile based on GTA5 that has working Z3D, welcome to give it a go. Use in offline SinglePlayer only. In game video settings, slide “Extended FOV” to max. Sometimes going to the menu disables Z3D, just switch it from windowed back to fullscreen until it comes back.

Only tested this briefly so far, but should be fun! Enjoy!

Press Delete key in game to open vorpx menu. Set Virtual Cinema to on and it should appear like you are sitting on a couch (like Desktop Viewer).

If you want it 2D instead of 3D, set 3D Render to off in that same menu.

Press “Save and Quit” so from now on it will launch in Cinema mode.

Glad you got it working! It is pretty neat!

For me it always takes a 2nd try to hook initially, but hooks fine if I’ve played recently without a windows reboot. Maybe it just needs to be fresh in the memory.

Also not sure if this makes a difference, but I have the in-game overlay disabled in Uplay for all my Ubisoft games. This means Uplay will bark at you everytime you try to launch saying it is not “recommended” to play without, but just click “Launch Anyway” or whatever it says.

I’m currently enjoying a near full screen view via Cinema mode zoomed in at 0.91 distance, 5:4 aspect resolution, and an FOVScale=1.68000 adjustment to ACO.ini , and it’s pretty comfortable so far. A little bit more in world, only draw back is cut scenes are a bit close, wish there was a hotkey to toggle Cinema mode on and off so i could switch to a zoomed out edgepeek for that.

I just uploaded a first run Z3D profile to the cloud, based on AC Unity.

It may take 2 or 3 launches to hook, but it is working. (may want to enable Async timewarp, I turned it off for my Pimax)

I’ve not fully tested all anti aliasing settings yet, but noticed the 3D effect is removed if you attempt to change AA settings mid game. I currently have AA set to the highest and Z3D is working.

I’ve also just noticed you can increase the FOV value beyond 115 in the ACO.ini found in Documents/Assassins Creed Origins, but have yet to test it further.

If I can get the FOV right, should be able to switch to fullvr for a pretty neat “in world” experience. Gorgeous looking game!

It’s funny, I’m always trying to find ways to hide the HUD in games, want my VR immersive. But I understand that some HUD information can be necessary for a good experience, especially in a game you’re not already familiar with.

That’s neat! Yes, custom resolutions have helped me a lot!

Will the new optimizer system be adjustable in game menu, similar to Direct VR sliders? Really like being able to tune the FOV on the fly in game.

And will it similarly save adjustments? Or will it reset every time it reevaluates at launch?

Automatic resolution seems nice, but I’ll still want to be able to choose my own resolution (often much higher than recommended) and have it remember.

I like the idea that games will be auto optimized by default, but hope we will still have the freedom to tweak it or disable it if preferred.

I believe the first Watch Dogs has a hidden profile already set in vorpX, so it should hook automatically when you start the game.

Flawless Widescreen also has a Watch Dogs profile to increase the FOV a bit further witch is helpful.
