For anyone interested, I wrote a setup guide on The Dark Mod forums for getting the game running with Vorpx: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/17501-oculus-rift-the-dark-mod-vorpx/

If you’re not aware, TDM is an extension of the Thief modding community. Specifically, it’s a Doom 3 total conversion mod that has gone standalone and is completely free. It’s a 1st person stealth game heavily inspired by Looking Glass Studios original Thief games. The game consists of fan-made missions, of which I believe there are over 100.

This is awesome! Your thread should have gotten more of a response! This is the closest we will come to playing the original Thief in VR and I can’t wait to try it. Thanks for the link!

Oh, I forgot to mention that didn’t I, sorry about that.

Most games don’t seem to care, but some are picky. So testing fullscreen vs windowed, AA on vs off, and changing resolutions, are general things to try. A small taste of the endless testing of profiles to find ones that work 🙂 .

Glad it’s working again. Hitman profile needs to be attached to the Hitman.exe (not Launcher.exe), run in dx11 mode, and exclusive fullscreen.

So far I’ve only played the demo version, so let us know if full retail gives you further problems. Thanks.

No need to apologize! I should have thought of it too. It threw me off because I knew I hadn’t changed the setting prior to losing 3D, but then I remembered that it can sometimes “change itself” if you alt-tab out of a game, and I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what happened. Good thing to add to the general problem solving checklist …

Excellent profile, by the way! I keep meaning to compliment you on it. Hitman looks and runs great in full 3D, so your efforts are much appreciated.

I tried the things you suggested. Restored game settings. Factory reset everything. None of that helped. Hitman is still playing in 2D with vorpX. I’ve been a big defender of vorpX online but this is really getting frustrating.

EDIT: Figured it out!!!! God this has been maddening. I tried as an experiment to switch Hitman to “exclusive fullscreen.” I never changed this setting from whatever it had been but I did alt-tab out of the game once and that was around the time the problem started happening. I think when I alt-tabbed out of the game it changed the “exclusive fullscreen” setting to something else. That’s my guess anyway, because setting it to “exclusive fullscreen” brings back 3D with vorpX!

Sorry Ralf for thinking vorpx was the problem. Anyway, if you ever run into an issue like this with any game, remember to try changing the fullscreen settings. Now I have no time to actually play the game but at least I know how to make it work for next time …

Well, you could try Restore Game Settings or Factory Reset just in case some modified setting has changed the way VorpX is running. I’ve never had that problem. =/ Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?

Other than deleting and reinstalling the profiles, no, I haven’t. But I will try the “Restore Game Settings” option as you suggest. Thanks!

EDIT: Okay, I can’t “restore game settings,” because as far as I can tell that doesn’t apply to added cloud-based profiles. I think that just resets all official vorpx profiles. I haven’t tired “factory reset” yet but I guess I don’t have too many other options so … here goes.

In case you are still having cloud trouble, I’ve uploaded the profiles to mediafire:

    Hitman 2016 – G3D
    Hitman 2016 – Z3D

Just drag and drop them into your local profiles list, and add the exe to the one you want active.

Thank you dellrifter22!!! I was just about to post a request for someone to upload your profiles! Hopefully I’ll get a chance to try them later today. Much appreciated!!!!

Thanks Ralf. The problem is that there is no official profile for Hitman, so I have to use a cloud profile if I want to play it.

I finally got a replacement password from vorpx. The password was rejected, first with the “unspecified error” message, then a message telling me my password is “incorrect.”

Thanks. Got it figured out – I was using the existing cloud profile someone made, which doesn’t seem to work. Just creating my own with Vampyr fixed it.

That was probably for the older Cthulu game.

I can’t even start the game with vorpx. What am I doing wrong? it won’t inject at all, vorpx is running but no luck.

My guess is you have to select the “Run VorpX Control as administrator” option in the VorpX control panel. I tried testing this by turning that option off, and when I did, VorpX couldn’t hook Call of Cthulu …

On a related note if I buy Vorpx and later get a new computer, can I transfer my copy of Vorpx to that new computer? Because that was my main complaint about Tridef.

My motherboard recently died and I built what was essentially a brand new PC. Emailed Ralph–there is an address just for reinstalling I think–and got a new key and reinstalled that same day. Completely painless.

Tridef is officially dead, in case you didn’t know. You can’t even pay for their software now, and those of us who have paid for it can no longer reinstall if we need to, like me, because it’s impossible to reactivate it. There is an “unoffical” slightly older Tridef version floating around that is still usable, but the future of 3D/VR software now belongs to VorpX.

There are a couple of graphic mods for AI you could try, though I don’t know how well they work with VorpX. A ton of SweetFX profiles too that may or may not hook with VorPX. There are gameplay mods as well and I’ve used some of them. Personally I always switch off film grain as I dislike it. I want games to look as real as I can make them and real life doesn’t have any film grain … Same thing with lens flares.

Thanks for the suggestion to use the Vampyr profile for this! Decent 3D. What mode and resolution did you select? I think fullVR is actually doable if a little blurry. I used VorpX controls to increase FOV and seemed to work fine. Some fog effects, etc look off but definitely playable! Interested to know what settings others are using too.

EDIT: Shouldn’t this be in the “Game Profiles” forum?

Does the official profile for Rise of the Tomb Raider provide any 3D option? I do not see any 3D option in the vorpx in-game menu, but I don’t know if this is my problem or it is supposed to be like that so far.

I think I tried it with Vorpx and was surprised that it didn’t seem to have any 3D mode .. which is strange because the game has a BUILT IN SBS 3D mode that works really, really well … you just can’t use it in Vorpx.

I ended up playing it in its native 3D mode using Virtual Desktop.

Can you tell us that custom resolution that you chose..? and do you use the grandtheftautovr mod..?

I think I ended up with 1440×1080. I am not currently using the GTA VR mod but I want to. I tried it and thought it was cool but there was a conflict between it and vorpx with the touch controls (even though it was meant to be used with vorpx?) so you pretty much had to remap everything on the left controller which was kind of a pain in the ass. But I will go back to it someday.

I was considering recently getting FC 5 if VOrpx worked for it which is why I logged in today. What profile do you use and what settings did you adjust to get gamepad fully working?

Sorry for the late reply–haven’t been to the forum in a few days. I used the profile dellrifter22 created. You can download it from the vorpx cloud. All the information is in this thread here:

    farcry 5 (uplay) injection failed

I’m not at my desktop so I can’t check which vorpx settings I used to fully enable gamepad but I will find out and post those tomorrow.

The profile looks good and runs really well … but unfortunately it isn’t “real” 3D. You CAN play the game in real 3D if you have Tridef 3D … there is a custom Tridef profile that provides full 3D in the game. It looks a little blurry compared to Vorpx though.

Unfortunately, the game keeps booting in 800×600. And if I try to change it, the game crashes. Just to be sure, I imported the VorpX cloud settings, and have the same issue.

What I think is happening (same thing happened to me) is that Vorpx is trying to select a resolution that GTA V doesn’t actually support. When Vorpx gives GTA V an unsupported resolution, GTA V defaults to 800×600.

You can test this by checking to see what resolution Vorpx is trying to force the game to use. Disable Vorpx, then try running the game normally, but with the resolution Vorpx had selected. I’ll bet you it ends up running in 800×600 again.

You could also uncheck the forced resolution option in Vorpx, and set your own resolution–try 1080p, since we know that is a supported res. I’ll bet that GTA V will then run in 1080p–not 800×600.

I ended up creating my own custom resolutions, testing them one by one until I found one that looked pretty good with out crippling my frame rate.
