Okay. I just trie both ways. Checking the dont optimize box then srarted the game, and turning it off in game and restarting. Neither fixed the warping when the VR mod is activated. Is there a way to disable the FOV change in the mod?

Weird. So it sounds like the problem could be with the mod itself. I’d try writing the mod author to see if he has any suggestions.

You either disable it in the main Vorpx menu before you start the game–select “Don’t optimize game settings”–or you do it in the game’s specific Vorpx menu once you launch the game. I think it should have an FOV setting in there. Then you probably have to restart the game for it to take effect. I know for a fact that the FOV for the mod and the FOV set by Vorpx are totally different values and you thus probably shouldn’t run both at the same time.

Yes, I was right. From the mod’s webpage:

The rendered FOV of the in-game camera is automatically set to the value calculated using your Oculus profile for a natural looking view. No manual configuration or external FOV fixes are necessary with this mod.

I think the VR mod also changes FOV so you might try disabling Vorpx’s FOV to avoid a conflict and see how it looks then.

A couple of these games are deep discount on Origin now through Jan29th. Mass Effect Andromeda and Star Wars Battlefront 2 are each under $5.

Same goes for Dragon Age Inquisition, Titanfall 2, and most of the Battlefield games

Is there a new profile for Titanfall 2? The original was pretty bad–no depth at all between your gun and the background, for instance–if this got fixed I’d be psyched to play it.

You are of course still free to play how you think it’s best, absolutely no problem if you are aware of the implications. Please just don’t make others believe that this is a matter of taste or something they should experiment with. It really isn’t, in full VR mode it’s pure math with just one correct solution.

I will honor your request and refrain from disputing the correctness of vorpx’s default FOV, if that will make your work easier, Ralf. I can imagine a scenario in which someone reads my post and changes the FOV, then doesn’t like the results and blames you or vorpx for the problem instead of me, forcing you to respond and take time to address the issue, etc.

That seems perfectly reasonable. However, I respectfully disagree that experimenting is not something I or any user should recommend to any one else. Experimentation/tweaking is a big part of this hobby for VR enthusiasts, and I think we should be free to suggest tweaking certain values, as long as we don’t claim to have the “right” settings for those values, and as long we make it clear that any issues that result are on the end-user, not Vorpx. It would be one thing if it were hard to return to the default values you’ve set, then I can see all sorts of things getting screwed up, but as long as we can easily restore your original calculations, I don’t see the harm in a little experimentation. I’m willing to accept a little image warping when I rotate my head in exchange for a higher FOV that lets me see more of my arm. You have made it very clear that there is a trade off for this kind of tweaking, and if I recommend any sort of FOV changes–as I am doing here–I will be sure to repeat your warning first, so that users can make an informed decision on whether or not to experiment.

@ haints: just a heads-up that the FOV calculated by vorpX is 100% perfect for your headset. In “Full VR” mode FOV is not a matter of taste, there is only one correct FOV. That’s also the reason why you don’t see FOV sliders in native VR games.

Even if you prefer a different one it’s important to understand that only the FOV calculated by vorpX is technically correct. Everything else causes “fish bowl” image distortion.

I understand your thinking here, Ralf. I would however say there can be more than one correct FOV, or to put it another way–one FOV may be correct in one way, but off in another.

Here’s what I mean. Hold your arm straight out in front of you like you are aiming a gun. You can see the entirety of your arm, starting with your shoulder, extending all the way out to your hand. That’s our normal FOV. But the default vorpx FOV for Kingdom Come starts about halfway down your arm.

Now, maybe that is the FOV that fits best with the Oculus Rift, but I’ve played other VR games where when I extend my arm out–I can see almost all of my arm. That’s what feels natural to me. That’s what feels “correct.” So when I extend my arm out in Kingdom Come to throw a punch, and half my arm is missing–it feels wrong to me, even if it is correct in another way.

Ultimately, I would argue that what feels most real to the player, is the most important value. Not everyone might feel the way I do, or some people might disagree on the idea of which value makes the game feel most real, but that’s fine: fortunately your software allows us to go with the default values you’ve arrived at, or to change it to our own personal tastes, and that’s exactly as it should be. To be perfectly clear–I’m not saying your default values are wrong–I’m saying that to me, being able to see more of my arm as I would in real life, is a paramount value for VR.

I just realized that I had asked this question quite a while ago, and the answer was: imported profiles can not be used in place of official profiles.

I wish there was a way around this. I get absolutely no depth using what I guess is the official Call of Duty WW II profile and would like to try something else.

I don’t have time for details atm, but google for Flawless Widscreen. It’s an app to adjust FOV for several games, FC3 is on there. Think it even has hands FOV adjustment.

Also, I often use Letterbox in fullVR for these situations, and zooming the screen out some. Yes I get bars on top and bottom, but I still get headtracking and larger scale than playing in the cinema modes.

Sometimes getting proper FOV (distance from player hands/weapons and from the ground) are more important to me than the image filling my entire view, to get it “feeling” right.

I can’t believe I completely forgot about that program! I used it awhile ago and then just sort of forgot about it, but you are right, it’s like the perfect solution, especially since it works specifically with FarCry 3. Thanks a ton of the suggestion!

Thanks for responding, steph12. I’ll look for those settings.

I was a mouse and keyboard FPS player for years. And then I played Condemned Criminal Origins, and for some reason I started using a gamepad–and I just found it a much more enjoyable way to play. I really like the rumble feedback, and the joysticks felt more natural than clicking on a mouse and typing on my keyboard. Now it’s the only way I play. I realize this is heresy in a certain segment of the PC population, but I just think that’s silly. I know you weren’t serious, but I just wanted to explain myself anyway.

    Dear Santa… haha

Matt, did you finish Mad Max and all the Medal of Honors already? You’re a machine 🙂

What profile are you all using for Mad Max? And is it z3d or g3d?

I played quite a bit of Mad Max in full 3D using Tridef, so I know it can be done, but would like to play it with Vorpx …

No one else has encountered this? I would try to fix it by adjusting FOV, but there is no FOV option in the vorpx menu …

Is this profile good For hitman2?

It’s great! Some very slight distortion around your character in G3D but its barely noticeable and the 3D effect is great. I couldn’t play it without this profile and vorpx now.
