KarlorParticipant@criz, you followed all the directions, you know except for using a MAC…. there’s your problem guy… oculus has a sketchy time working on systems its made for and your dumb enough to think its going to work just fine lol its good you sold your dk2, you would just hurt yourself.
KarlorParticipantOh yeah I figured it couldn’t be called the enterprise and all that but something like that would be cool :) I was thinking more for playing then watching, like say your into creepy games you could have a scary basement youre sitting in while you play lol or like a galaxy type setting if youre playing something like that. Or a nuked out living room while you play Fallout 4 on a 1950s TV. Anyway just something to maybe think about down the road.
KarlorParticipantWatching movies on the bridge view screen from the captains chair of the Enterprise would be pretty awesome. A drive-in style setting might be cool to.
KarlorParticipantIt won’t matter after I become the Lawnmower Man.. listen for the ringing!
KarlorParticipantHa ha ha ha Don’t worry about it!.. I love Lisa so much… Oh hi Deny!
KarlorParticipantI did not hit her! I did NOT.. Oh hi Marq-uis!
KarlorParticipantI think it would be cool to have an all-in-one type thing too for VR media. I wouldn’t think its even on the to do list rite now, who knows a few years down the road after everything game wise is more sorted out they can add non game features. Id rather them focus on expanding and improving the game stuff rather then trying to be an all in one solution. Anyway you could try Cineveo or something(vr movie theater) or whirlygig vr player for 3D movies. Whirlygig worked great for my 3D movies. Hunt around some you can find a player that will work.
KarlorParticipantOMG.. just swap around some runtimes, in the time it took to wet your panties you could of been finished rolling back and ready to play with your new stuff. ERMA_GURD
P.S. for Ralph: If you could get 3D openGL support I would buy another license just because. With openGL, we could play the 2 new Wolfenstein games, SOMA, the Amnesia series games probably a lot of others but those would be worth the price of admission alone.
KarlorParticipantAny type of openGL support would be cool. Would love to play some Wolfenstein in my Rift! If you could get 3D down the road that would be the cherry on top of the VR Nazi-killtoberfest. Anyway keep up the good work looking forward to seeing what you have cooked up this time around.
KarlorParticipantI get that people mite be sketched out on buying some dudes driver. In this case don’t be. Flat out if you want to actually use your dk2 you have to have vorpX. Buy it, learn it, love it. Without vorpX there would be no way to enjoy all the games you want to in VR. Oculus demos are cool and all but its amateur hour for the most part. Play all the great AAA games that are out now but in VR with vorpX.

KarlorParticipantIf it works why so fast to remove it? I get what you mean, they push forward even if it shakes up what’s been done. That can be a good thing, a great thing. But unless they have something cooked up that really works then removing things feels odd. Unless you have a solution don’t clip the cord just for the sake of clipping. If its going to change in the next 3 updates then they should hold back. If something sort of works and you want to replace it with something that sort of works, that’s not moving forward. That’s just changing out one wrong thing for another. They have a ton of talent in their ranks so they should be able to come up with a solution that works and is easy adaptable for people helping push their product. Think of oculus as the company version of a child star. They take off big, lots of fame-hype.. Then if they don’t watch it it becomes too much too fast. Companies can become bloated and the corporate structure can begin to have negative effects on what they call progress. Anyway I hope they get it down and everybody can be happy and have fun when it comes out.

KarlorParticipantI get the feeling that Oculus won’t be top dog for long. Like people have said every time they “update” it seems to break everything prior. Everyone thought hey Facebook has money, it should be able to thrust Oculus forward. Now it seems the buyout didn’t really do much other then make Lucky a rich man. That’s cool and all, but Oculus has used their 15 min up. The whole hey we need developers bit has run out at this point and a lot of buzz has died out. I think Sony if they do it right could become the VR headset front runner. The valve set looks good too but may end up being a little too techy for your average user. All in all Oculus started out with the best intentions. Now it really seems they try to cover the lack of progress by forcefully implementing “features” without proper support from the company. I know its them trying to push forward, but if everystep forward leaves all the people moving with you broken and stranded, then you may run out of people to help push.
KarlorParticipantThe problem with 99% of laptops is they have underpowered video cards. To have a good VR set up you need around 4 GB video ram(depends on graphics of game being used). That’s on top of the system ram. Windows 10 will probably be good but I would give it a year to work out the kinks. I would go windows 7 because it has better programs for setting up gamepad, wheels, you name it. It has its issues but I think its great after you figure out its quirks.
KarlorParticipantIf you are actually going to be doing experiments where the subject is going to be using VR then I would say no laptop(too slow), no macs in general (most oculus stuff won’t run, and under powered), and no windows 10 (at least for awhile). Go with a good rig with a nice video card and an SSD HD. Realistic and functioning VR takes some juice so good PC is a must. I would also use windows 7(seems to have the most compatibility). If you want your data to be good then you may need to do a little testing after you get set up. A slow rig will taint any data due to the subjects discomfort and frustration.
KarlorParticipantIt’s the way the game works, it monkeys with the way vorpx works. Try looking over the gta threads. Basically you map mouse and keyboard over the existing game pad buttons that are being funky. with programs like xpadder, joy 2 key. You can also disable the buttons with another program I forgot but its in there. Also in game go to vorpx menu and you can try turning off the controller stuff. Also the fov mod is a must.
