Elder Scrolls Online says its supported. I don’t have it so I haven’t tried it but I’m thinking about it. I think a lot of the negativity around it was probably more or less just the internet doing what the internet does best. Anyway might be pretty cool in 3d and on the rift.

So it basically only renders the view it thinks your facing so decoupling would in a way “confuse” it and sometimes not work?

What about highly modifiable games like Fallout or Skyrim? Would that be more of a user made type mod?

On games it works with it would be cool to have the option even if isn’t that many. Is it a fairly varied process that depends on how each game works, thus requiring a lot of effort to even test to see if it works? Anyway good to know, thanks.

There is a few threads you could check out. There is one for game requests and there is one about getting unsupported games working with alternate profiles. You could check them out mite be of use to you. Rite now that’s about it for making new profiles for unsupported games. You basically change the .exe to a supported game and hope for the best. You can look for engine types and the like to help find a possible substitute profile to use.
*Note* Just be sure to use a profile your not already using because if you change the settings on one it will save it for use on both games as it sees it as only one profile. Mite not be an issue but something to maybe keep in mind.

I was thinking about this and how it might be set up so it could be easily used and customized for each game without it being to over the top. I’m not a programmer but I was thinking on it anyway.

I’m thinking you could divide the screen into a grid as illustrated on the smash hit RAMBO The Video Game:

That way you could take the grid overlays coordinates for the areas of the HUD layer you want to move, and reassign them to a new coordinate on the same HUD layer. Sort of like a version of battleship if you will, swapping a blocks location to a new blocks location essentially. It might be easier to handle something like this then on like a per pixel base. Just an idea I had and thought it might help make this doable.

There is a mod for Skyrim:
    http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/35154/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D35154%26preview%3D&pUp=1

It allows you to move around and resize the HUD elements. Its pretty awesome. I’m not sure how the guy who made it actually does all of it but might be worth checking into.

I get what your saying here and it would be cool to be able to dial it up or down inside vorpx. Although I haven’t had to much of an issue with it. I use a game pad usually so for those instances I can make up for it with just using a joystick to fine tune the aim if need be. I could see some games, depending on how they handle the aiming speeds could make it a real pain if you wanted to rely on head movement(realism) over just navigating with a controller.

    Outside of vorpx:
You could maybe try setting up a key press that after a certain amount of time of being held(such as to aim) it switches to a faster mouse setting. You might be able to figure out how to do this outside of vorpx with xpadder or joy 2 key maybe. There also might be a way to hotkey some system mouse speeds then you could set up a way so when you aim it also presses the system mouse speed hotkey you set up. Sort of an automatic toggle thing.

That is a great idea! After you got it set up it would be cool to be able to duck and have it actually duck without you having to think about it.

Have like a depth setting you can adjust and a way to set the key. Also thinking about what you said about the camera hack. You could have it be the normal free move camera vorpx uses when your standing then when it senses your below the depth setting you set up it presses the key and you’re character squats. Then it resets the vorpx cameras height setting back to 0/re-centered but in the squatting position so it doesn’t end up making you squat and then have the camera be low in game because you squatting in real life. Same with when standing back up.

That way it might fell more realistic with the way the cameras work. Then again who knows, but definitely a feature worth trying out.

Make sure you read and follow the directions. If you did then it should work. Also adjust your IPD, and 3D strength untill you feel its not crossed, if it even is.

Why do people blame vorpX when they can’t get something to work? do exactly what any body else would do, change settings until it feels right. vorpx is a one size fits all pants, it won’t fit everybody and for it to work good you have to adjust it to fit you. yeah its not plug and play easy peasy but its VR virtual reality, its NEVER going to be perfect out of the box. learn to adjust your settings like a big boy and stop blaming vorpx.

Another option I like to do to each game is remove the crosshair, most games a 3D crosshair makes my eyes hurt. Also try joy 2 key for controller set up. I use 2 move navigation controllers all mapped out for skyrim and other games. I’m working on an easy tutorial that will explain how to get it all working but its not to hard after you have it down.

Skyrim and Fallout work the best out of what I have tried. Your an advanced developer so making some adjustments in the menus should be easy for you. VorpX works great, if your not an idiot that is.

It works ok-ish but it doesn’t have any adjustments, it’s a good start for a factory setting though. If you want the most out of it I would use the vorpX setup though at least until “official” rift support comes if it ever does go beyond the “beta” version. It can be more comfortable experience with vorpX, it has edge peek and all sorts of fine tuning.

You could try experimenting with some of Skyrims memory patches. I haven’t tackled it yet for Skyrim but the 4gb patch with Fallout NV and NVSE work with vorpX so I bet there is something that will do the same for Skyrim. If you get ta memory patch to work you should be able to load up a lot more textures and such. Also crank up the positional tracking strength until it feel better/faster, it makes it better. And mess with the vignette size and image zoom until its comfortable. I also set vorpx to lens B even though I use A lenses, its less in your face feeling and you can adjust everything to still fill your vision. I also recommend getting some kind of first person mod that puts your body in the game.

Is you DK1 all up to date? Do tech demos work with it right now? I’m not sure about the DK1 and how it works. Maybe try updating it if it’s not. If it still doesn’t recognize it then try messing again in the general settings in vorpX. If it still is funky then maybe try unplugging it all and rebooting and maybe try reinstalling the oculus dk1 stuff fresh. That’s just what I would do if I couldn’t get it to work. If your Dk1 works with other demos and stuff just fine then I’d say its in the general settings of vorpx… or the mode you have it set in the oculus options could be wrong.. Or it could be turned off.
