From how i understood it, vorpX reads out “depth information” to create the 3d-effect (many games are based on that “depth-info”), so vorpX can´t create 3D-effects on programs not having that sort of information and since there is no such a thing in 2D movies, vorpX can´t make them 3D along with all other programs not having that “depth information” or what it is called.

Vorpx changes a game’s configuration, correct?

From what i know and experienced, it changes only FOV to fit the right size on certain occiasons (CYBERPUNK 2077 for example) and of course you can turn this vorpX-feature off in the vorpX configuration, so then vorpX stops making any changes at all.

Was playing Wolfenstein II today again with a better lightsource and there wasn´t any problem, so it seems the bigscreen-beta problems are lights-source related, while there never have been any with vorpX while using the same lightsource as the one causing stuttering with bigscreen-beta.

Forget everything i wrote about “moving your head while the game is loading, causes stuttering” coz it must be something else, now also really getting a pain in the ass big time.

Been playing it on full screen (bigscreen beta) at daytime without any stuttering.

Now i played it a few minutes ago and the game stutters like crazy along with that additional stuttering whenever i move my head, weird thing is that is only happening within the game, if i exit to the main menu, there is neither that stuttering of the mouse-pointer-arrow nor any head-movement related stuttering.

It probably has to do with the light in the room where i am playing, which is probably too dark for that crappy bigscreen-app and causes that stuttering, but i am not in a mood for adding additinal light-sources at this moment so……FUCK IT

I remember there weren´t too many problems with using bigscreen beta but it looks like devs are really up to finally destroy it for once and for all as more and more games were causing troubles on it over the last months, no wonder that crap is free

I hope VorpX will become very popular, but I’m also afraid of this, because now the support is GREAT, REALLY, my fear it’s if VorpX will become really popular if you will ask something or a workaround for a game, the wait for that workaround will become very long because there will be thousands requests

Most people being really interested in vorpX will mostly find out things on their own with actually using the app and learn things by doing/using. I´d see only some slight problem with people who ask before even trying or finding out on themself, “the lazy ones” if you want.

The good side with those lazy ones is, their questions are not complicated to answer, even regular users could answer them easily without having Ralf´s brains and understanding.

So if requests will become high in astronomical proportions, i am sure Ralf would hire some staff to answer requests anyway.

I am currently playing it, here is my experience:

    vorpX:
“Borderless window” is also throwing me back onto desktop, only “windowed” mode works.

    BigscreenBeta:
Works in FullScreen, but so typically for this (usually good app but often shitty coz those morons fuck it up after most updates) friggin program…it doesn´t come without flaws:

When the game loads up, it can happen it starts stuttering like crazy, this can be avoided when you make sure not to move your head (not even one tine bit! i am even holding my breath while it loads, may sound both stupid and funny but that´s how it works here), so once the loading process is over and you´ve made it not too move too much (or not at all! lol), you can enjoy the game in full screen without any stuttering or other problems.

Not sure if it still works after the next bigscreen-update, coz they broke lots of games with their updates, back the days when i was using bigscreen-beta only, before i got vorpX of course.

@ peter: The problem could probably be mouse-related, so it probably wouldn´t hurt to try another mouse and probably as well de-installing moues-drivers and then do a fresh install.

I just remember there was a game running fine with most other users but jittering on my system when i played it with mouse, when i switched to xbox controller, the jittering was gone.

I’m just not 100% sure whether maybe newer versions may include changes that affect vorpX since my last one is a few years old.

Doesn´t seem to be the case since i tried vorpX with a 2021 Photoshop-Version!

I tried to hook photoshop but for some reason it is stuck at the screen of opening photoshop with vorpx,

I guess you (as well as myself and many others, as far as i noticed in some threads) are talkin about the vorpX screen being stuck? Well you have to wait for that window to turn into an option-menu-window, where you can click “install hook-helper”, that window could also be blocked by the application window, so you have to look for it.

vorpX never stuck on me yet while loading, the window just takes some time to change, you have to be patient, most users close the app coz they think it is stuck or close it without realizing it has already changed into the menu-window.

you told everything is fine flr you, have you used the desktop viewer or the hooking function with photoshop?

It was flawlessly working in desktop-mode so i wasn´t even trying with hooking, besides that i only use vorpX to play games, never with photoshop or other programs, but i checked the excluded list, there is definitely an entry called “photoshop”, you gotta delete that and then vorpX should hook and probably it works then coz as i said…in some cases, i had better results with vorpX being hooked, than in desktop-mode, but i am talkin games here, no other apps.

The desktop viewer should also work fine for Photoshop, at least as far as I can tell.

Despite it probably shouldn´t cause trouble with Photoshop, a very few games did stutter on vorpX desktop-viewer mode but it was all gone when i made it hook, i also remember TRINE 4 causing lots of stuttering, but it ran fine with other users, but honestly that was some time ago when i was too new to vorpX and wasn´t even hooking but using vorpX desktop-viewer ONLY, i gotta try that one again but with hooking.

I got curious and tried the exact same, but everything works flawless here. Held left button clicked, drawed things and moved my head, everything right.

R u sure you set the head-tracking off?

I am not that much of a tech guy but probably try to activate headtracking but set the head tracking slider to zero, that´s what i did at the beginning when i wasn´t aware of the option to completely disable headtracking, it always worked.

At second you could try to make vorpX hook on photoshop, but you have to delete it from the excluded-list since i remember a “photoshop” entry being there.

Edit: You actually should always make vorpX hook to programs, i made the mistake to mostly use the desktop feature for immersive screen modes, that can cause certain troubles with certain programs, like stuttering, which doesn´t happen when vorpX is hooked.

What i noticed a couple days ago in r/OculusQuest in a post about VorpX was that there were much more upvotes and positivity than in the recent past. Either the public opinion is beginning to change for the better, or most of the whiners and haters have “left the building”.

While you could be right about reddit whiners and haters could have left the building, reddit-upvotes still mean shit, there are so many useless posts and submissions, getting upvoted with about hundreds to thousands of upvotes and i guess not even the upvoters know why the fu** they actually upvoted it, on the other hand there are really great posts and submissions and they just not attract the right people or have other bad luck not to get upvoted as much.

At the end reddit´s whole voting- and karma system is useless crap, as every voting system who is allowing negative downvotes, especially in times like this, where people vote down on you coz they have a bad day or for any other stupid reason they may have.

Somehow I get the feeleing no matter what the actual limits are for any setting are, there is always someone who wants more just because apparently more is always better. :)

With English not being my first language and me being too fast at times along with not always using the best words coming to mind, i probably made myself unclear before.

Is that screen-size improvement with the last update also the final limit now or are there probably being more limits we could reach?

I reckon every improvement in terms of screen size could also cause more stuttering problems etc., this again probably being the actual reason for not having one general/overall screen size limit from start along with risking users turning up the screen scale “too big” and ending up storming the troubleshooting-section here.

On the other hand vorpX´s ingame-configuration options really don´t leave anything to be desired, so i was asking myself why there couldn´t be one absolute maximum screen-scale option, giving it that warning-message when a certain point is exceeded, just like other configuration-sliders have it as well, then you could have one overall screen size limit and no need to improve limits with updates as well as no users asking for such improvements.

Please keep in mind i am just asking how this would probably be workin, so if the current screen scale limit is the final one, then it is totally fine with me.

Regarding the current screen scale limit of being “large enough”: At the end it is in the viewer´s eye and all about adapting/getting used to things, especially the experience in terms of playing games or watching movies, that is why people buying bigger and bigger monitors/tv sets every year, not to forget that thankfuly this is also why VR-Sickness goes away pretty fast (despite some people still thinking it would stay forever)…

….so since i just found out i am actually not the only one with a theatre-screen-fetish rather than being too much into fullVR-experiences…

I find standard games (2D or 3D) on an impossibly huge theatre screen more enticing than VR itself. This is actually the main reason I ordered a Reverb G2.

Please consider adding more display options for us theatre aficionados. As the quality of HMD’s improves our numbers will only increase.

(quoted from an older thread from BEFORE last update with the improvements)

…there are probably even more users thinking about the same thing now or in the future.

I really hoped theyd use the gravity gloves to have us do insane physics puzzles like gravity gloving a rope down to you, then use the rope to climb or have you use a pulley to prop a door open then shove a barrel under it to get thru, etc.

WTF!? I hardly read/listen to game-reviews these days anymore so i don´t know how the puzzle-mechanics in Alyx really are, but i was sure/hoped it would have lots of physical puzzles like that, this feels like a let-down to me as well.

Yes Saints & Sinners looks great to me and it´s on par with the titles i must try in the near future.

I actually haven´t played VR-Exclusives in a long time now, funny how i wasn´t using my vr-gear for almost a year and now i am using it with every game i play…without actually using it for what it was made for (for me that is playing VR-exclusive games), thanks to vorpX! LOL

the box that says it’s attaching stays there forever

Fine that you got it running, but i am still curious if you probably did the same mistake as i have done when using vorpX for the first few times with that box “staying forever”, i quit the whole process coz i thought vorpX was freezing again lol. But that window/box actually doesn´t stay forever, it just takes some time to change into the othr box where you are given a few options, one of them is to install hook-helper, which often solves the problem but also in some cases not.

The best experiences I had in VR were actually in vorpx.

LOL yes that also applies to me, first time i made use of vorpX´s full-vr feature along with trying other modes as well, was GENERATION ZERO, another game never meant to be played in VR, so funny how i actually enjoy non-vr titles in vorpX more than actual VR-exclusives.

But i gotta still try HL:Alyx coz when that was being released, i already lost my interest in VR, now that i am actually back at it again (thanks to vorpX) i may try it soon….the only problem i got is…

…there are actually thousands of games i wanna play and try in all kinds of modes within vorpX!

Good call on the Batman Arkham series, those are some of my favorites and will definitely be checking those out

Despite i am not that much of a first-person-vr-immersion-enthusiast and more a bigass-theatre-wide-screen-addict, i am very much interested in how the ARKHAM SERIES could be played in vorpX full-vr.

@ToxicMike: You are so right. The vast majority of VR titles are poor in detail and boring. Only titles like skyrim that have been ported from flat to vr or flat games with VR mods available like Valheim, are great. I’ve been using vorpx since my DK2 (2015). Now with my Reverb G2 and the current Vorpx I’ve reached what I dreamed of.

LOL my oculus-rift-s wasn´t used for about a year, giving it one last shot with playing a game for the first time on a theatre-screen with bigscreen-beta (i never thought about it coz it didn´t made much sense to me, let alone that i had doubts about the experience being THAT great), before i was about to sell my vr-gear cheap, but from that moment on, i was never playing any game on my regular flat-monitor again and jacked myself into the vr-goggles with EVERY game i was playing EVERY TIME i played it. All of the sudden i was aware that i can´t ever enjoy any game without vr-goggles ever again LOL.

My best vr-experiences were SUPERHOT VR followed by HELLBLADE (interesting how absolutely great this 3rd-person game was in vr and that its vr-mode was actually coming more as a late add-on rather than an exclusive vr-game, wishing myself for even more 3rd-person games in vr!) and last but not least THE TALOS PRINCIPLE VR…and i actually loved DOOM VR, a title often downvoted negative by many users, to my surprise.

…and then there were, also to my surprise, many vr-titles preached by users in all positive ways but for me being the absolute “nightmare” in vr-games, horrifying in every negative way someone could imagine a vr-title to be. Now you might think i am talkin about vr-sickness, but that never was a big problem since i got adapted to it pretty fast, there were other major problems:

.) SERIOUS SAM VR: WTF?!?!? What do people love with this crap of a vr-game??? I love all the regular versions of SSAM but this?! Standing still while shooting into all directions, being so stressful and hectic that i actually lost every immersion from all the concentration it took for me to hit and dodge, almost getting sick from all the stress, so i tried on easier difficulty settings but then the game was too easy and boring, putting it away after 30 minutes and never loaded it up ever again.

.) Those “Bow”-Titles: What in gods name were they thinking???? The technique of shooting arrows with moving my hands in a similiar way was fun, but really….shooting more arrows at waves of enemies, than Robin Hood shot in all of his movies together, was more of a “stressful” experience rather than a joyful one, i also got that feeling (again) of losing every immersion coz the game itself took far too much of my concentration in order to hit all those enemies…..let alone that my shoulder still hurts by just thinking about those 30 minutes where i probably shot a million of virtual arrows.

.) Other more or less “mediocre” experiences/titles weren´t that great coz they were probably first generation vr-titles and only “great” on their release but i guess they´re not the titles these days to show off with, most of all coz some of those graphics are kinda like walking between “cardboard walls” rather than a “real” environment, but at least i was having the immersion of really walking inside another world…even if it was a “cardboard-world”.

…oh my..the size of this article again, sorry fellas i know i get carried away with writing way too much at times lol.
