RalfKeymasterNot sure how changing the IPD would change anything in regard to the field of view, but I’m glad it helped.
Reducing the image zoom was clearly the right thing to do.
RalfKeymasterSetting the IPD has next to nothing to do with this issue.
As said above, if not even actually changing the FOV manually in the right ini for the game changes anything, there has to be something severly wrong with your game installation / setup. There is nothing I can recommend in this case.
RalfKeymasterFor Metro you shouldn’t even need to touch the image zoom.
Normally it should be possible to use the vorpX Game Optimizer (maybe plus image zoom for minor adjustment). If that fails, you can however set it in an ini file.

You will have to experiment with the actual value. It may also be different for the Redux version of the game. Use Google in this case (Metro Redux FOV).
If setting the value via the correct ini fails, something is severely wrong on your setup.
RalfKeymasterYou can always combine setting the FOV with the image zoom on the image page of the vorpX ingame menu. If you feel 120° are still not enough for whatever reason (provided they were set successfully), you can simply zoom out a little bit (at the cost of minor top/bottom bars).
If setting the FOV fails completely, you can also use the image zoom (at the cost of larger top/bottom bars).
The instructions pasted in multiple times above REALLY contain everything you need to know to get rid of the zoomed in image.
RalfKeymasterIf it fails for some reason, choose one of the many workarounds. ImageZoom, Using a 4:3/5:4 resolution, the 3D FOV Enhancement (for Geometry 3D games), virtual cinema mode if all fails etc.).
When you choose one of the letterbox aspect ratio modes, the image is zoomed out a bit, creating a larger field of view. I’m not sure how this cannot help to be honest. It may not be enough, but as the instructions say, you can also combine this with the image zoom.
There is not a single game where you can’t get rid of the zoomed in look. Often in a perfect way, in other cases in a non-perfect way.
From best to worst here is what you can do (taken from the Essential Game Hints in the vorpX help):
- Set the game FOV directly in the game if it provides to dial in an FOV of 120°.
- Set the game FOV directly with the vorpX Game Settings Optimizer (vorpX config app) for games that support it.
- Set the game FOV to 120 manually through an ini tweak or external tool (avaliable for many games, google FOV + game name).
- Set the game resolution to a 4:3 or 5:4 aspect ratio mode. 1280×960 for example. In many games this helps with FOV.
- Use the 3D FOV Enhancement in the vorpX ingame menu (availabe in Geometry 3D games).
- Use one of the letterbox aspect ratio modes in the vorpX ingame menu and/or ImageZoom.
- Play the game in Virtual Cinema Mode (can be enabled in the vorpX ingame menu).
- Use the 2D FOV-Enhancement in the vopX ingame menu (be aware that this distorts the image).
RalfKeymasterOf course changing the FOV (field of view) makes a difference, it actually makes THE difference. The latest post on this thread before yours was from June, 7th. If this was an unsolvable issue, there would probably a lot more posts about this.
If you can’t see a difference, something went wrong. If a game normally uses an FOV of 75 for example, it looks very narrow and zoomed in, but if you set the FOV to 120 successfully, you have an FOV that is equal to what see in native Rift applications, nothing is zoomed in anymore afterwards.
That is possible in many games, but not all. vorpX also provides workarounds if it’s not possible in a game.

RalfKeymasterApparently there is an issue with the DK1 and vorpX 0.9. Will be looked into. For now please send a mail to support |at| vorpx com to get an older vorpX version for your DK1.
RalfKeymasterI’m not 100% sure whether the issue described here is the one I’m thinking about, but just in case: an overloaded GPU sometimes can cause black flicker. Due to the async direct mode rendering GPU requirements are higher than before with vorpX 0.9.
If you experience odd black flicker, in general the first thing to try is lowering your game’s graphics settings to the lowest possible settings. Restarting the game may be needed afterwards to get reid of the flicker.
RalfKeymasterNot sure about your MPC issue, normally it should be displayed in the virtual cinema. Did you apply the Game Optimizer setting for MPC? It selects a suitable video renderer. If that fails, select “EVR (custom preset)” manually in the MPC options.
For 3D videos you have to select the content type on the image page of the vorpX ingame menu. You can choose between mono, sbs and over/under, and also swap left/right if necessary.
If auto setting the FOV fails for some reason, you may have to resort to doing it manually. For many games googling for “fov game name” yields short tutorials. And if there is no way at all for a game, you might have to resort to one of the workarounds that vorpX provides. Please check the Essential Game Hints in the vorpX help for details.
RalfKeymasterEven if you don’t think it’s related to workload, please try first to run games at the lowest possible graphics settings and follow the other steps in the performance optimization guide in the vorpX help. It doesn’t matter whether the game runs fine without vorpX. With vorpX it’s more taxing, also the async timewarp causes overhead GPU wise.
If that does not help, please make a screenshot and provide exact steps to reproduce.
It’s always a bit difficult to talk about graphical things without seeing anything. Run the games windowed and then open the mirror window in the vorpX menu, this allows you to make a screenshot of what you see in the headset.
RalfKeymasterJust in case: make sure to not join a BattleEye enabled server. Since a BE update some time ago vorpX does not work with BE anymore and its author unfortunately doesn’t want to revert the according changes.
RalfKeymasterJust a little heads up that vorpX also has to run as admin when you launch a game as admin, otherwisw it can’t hook.
In general this should be avoided though, please do it only if necessary.
RalfKeymasterOdd issue, expecially since the Health Warning is showing. Can’t suggest anything specific unfortunately. Just things you might already have tried: Reboot, switching between runtime 0.7/0.8, trying another display driver, restoring a Windows system restore point from before the issue started to occur.
BTW: A Geforce 760 may be a bit too slow for many newer games with the latest vorpX version. Oculus recommends a GTX 970 class GPU for the Rift. Has nothing to do with the issue, just thought it was worth mentioning.
RalfKeymasterI remember an issue once with severe framerate drops in Source games with multisampling antialiasing enabled. That should be solved, but it may still be worth a try to check whether disabling AA helps. Maybe the fix for that isn’t working in all cases.
RalfKeymasterIf the issue is the one I’m thinking of, you have to lower the workload on your graphics card by either lowering your game’s graphics settings and/or the game resolution. Also disabling Crystal Image on the image page of the vorpX ingame menu can help a bit with performance.
It may be something completely else though. If possible, please make a screenshot, it’s always a bit difficult to talk about graphical things without seeing anything. Run the games windowed and then open the mirror window in the vorpX menu, this allows you to make a screenshot of what you see in the headset.
