Sounds as if you may inadvertently have selected the wrong display type. For an Index select „SteamVR“ as headset type on the „General“ page of the vorpX config app.

Hi there, yesterday I decided to try a few games. F1 2020 and wreckfest with Vorpx and it worked fine until I had to restart. Now when I start Vorpx it will hook the games but only to my 2D monitor as two images, and nothing on my valve index.

(to be clear Vorpx is active in the game and I can activate the delete menu. Its not displaying on my headset and what is displayed on my 2D screen is a doubled image.)

I have no way to list my index as a display, ive checkled and my nvidiqa card is in charge of everything it can be. Ive tried normal and alternate hooking methods. My Anti virus is not blocking Vorpx. Frankly im at a loss for what to do I need ideas.

    Any advice would be great

There is a list on PCGamingWiki with Native 3D support https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/w/index.php?title=Glossary:Native_3D. Of course it’s not comprehensive, you might notice Avatar and Far Cry 2 are not there.

Of the 37 games, 16 have vorpX profiles (based on the data that you are probably filling in on the wiki). At least Shadow of the Tomb Raider is SBS in the official vorpX profile.
I used SOTR profile to hook into other DX11 games supporting SBS. Now it should be possible for older DX9 based on the Avatar profile.

But for games like Quantum Break and Metal Gear Solid The Phantom Pain and some more,
the engine of these games are not Vorpx friendly, so we need to get the “3D” from somewhere else like Nvidia 3D Vision or Tridef 3D.

See to me that doesn’t A LOT of sense. It makes me wonder what the devs of those games are actually really doing. Yes DX / D3D and OGL have evolved over the years, but the process is still pretty much the same as it has been (i.e. For D3D: Create a vertex / index buffer, lock the buffer, fill the buffer, unlock the buffer, then draw the buffer). I imagine it has gotten more complicated with things like geometry shaders, etc. but I’m sure other games are using those as well and they’re supported. So I can’t really imagine what specifically about a game can cause it to be THAT drastically different that would make it, at least, infeasible, to support.

And now Genshin Impact has a profile, I am using that and works nicely. (Index with streamVR)

Although the full VR mode is terrible to the eye and brain with the fast mouse movements…

But the immersive VR mode is awesome.

I hope vorpx is doing everything outside the game`s exe memory space so I will not get banned. (I guess if only D3D calls are caught it should be fine.)

    Hi Experts,
I’m using Black Mesa via Steam, VorpX on Control and get the info that BM will start on the Desktop AND in VR-Headset. On desktop it looks than OK but my Valve Index is black. The complete Message (German) from Steam is:
“Black Mesa wird sowohl in einer Umgebung in Ihrem VR-Headset als auch auf Ihrem Desktop getartet. Die Leistung in diesem Modus ist eventuell nicht akzeptabel. Um dieses Spiel nur auf ihrem Desktop auszuführen, beenden Sie bitte SteamVR, bevor Sie das Spiel starten.”
I have Ryzen 7 and Nvidia RTX 3070. Is this known to anyone or has an Idea to solve this?
    Thanks in advance. Northo

So my biggest issue right now is framerate consistency. I am getting great fps 80% of the time with a 9900k and a RTX 3080. The issue is I’ll encounter stutter/judder for a few seconds even though the FPS counter still shows a steady framerate. Is it accurate? I was getting 80-90fps in Red Dead 2 but wanted a consistent framerate, so I changed the Index to 120hz and ran the game at 60 using Fluid Sync. Frame counter was locked at 60, yet I still encountered the same intermittent judder. What’s more confusing is that it seems to be random and doesn’t correspond with how demanding an area of the game is.

Thanks for the reply Ralf. I’ve settled on running the index at 120hz and running the game at 60fps. Most games I can maintain this but even at a locked 60, things like camera motion seem a bit “juddery”. Any idea what is causing this? I made to turn off vsync both in game and the NVCP.

Recently upgraded and am running a 3080 and a 9900k, which runs pancake games like butter. I was trying Abzu with Vorpx today and couldn’t really get great performance. Am I out of my mind to expect 90fps with Geo3d mode? I could get a locked 60 by running 120hz mode on the index and using the setting that halves the framerate, but it didn’t really feel all that smooth. Are my expectations too high?

Pimax Vision 8K X ughh ohhh. Much better like valve index. So now it’s clear. I not happy with the whole thing it’s blurry and it looks like waste.
I’m going to return it to the store and buy it Pimax Vision 8K X.

new pimaxes have 120 and 140 hz modes but at reduced fov, they artificially cut fov higher you go, pimax high fov has a lot of distortion on edges too, so its not really usable to look there with your eyes, but the feel of presence is better and lastly since high res is stretched so wide actual pixel per cm is along with index or even less a bit.

    In reply to: Graphics Quality?

to the op, you wont have graphics quality just like you have on regular screen, the purpose of Vorpx is IMMERSION.

even on my old hardware gtx 1080, 5820k and htc vive, i had a lot of fun using vorpx, obviously, some fullVR demanding games had low performance in G3D example is dishonor 1 but Vorpx motion smoothing works quiet well, so i had a blast.

now i upgraded to valve index and more recent hardware and i’m stunned by the graphics quality while using vorpx, atm i’m playing borderlands 3 and it looks real good and i’m using 1920*1440 res and ultra settings in fullVr with fov 125 (with unreal engine unlocker which i highly recommand for the UE4 supported games).

the most important thing for vorpx is how powerful your computer is, the better it is the better your vorpx experience will be.

and vorpx is light years ahead of any others 3D software including that reshade 3Ddepth, because of headtracking, directVR, full VR, G3D, Z3D, flexibility of the software, the ability to create custom users profiles for new games (when it works) in a easy way, highly tweakable settings for all modes (fullVR, cinematic mode, immersive mod).

i also have my direct vr scan fails sometimes.

when it “fails” i can briefly see the steamVr launching rectangle application on and off while directVr is doing its scanning, like a micro hang thing or something.

i know for sure that direct VR was working perfectly fine like 1 year ago but sadly in my case not anymore.

    atm my setup is

    5900x
    3090 FE
    32gb ddr4 3600
    w10 20h2
    all drivers/bios uptodate
    SSDs sata
    hx 1200w
valve index (and issue was also on my htc vive)
    base stations 1.0

    my previous hardware

    5820k
    gtx 1080
    16gb ddr4 3000
    w10 1904 (and previous versions)
