Does anyone have step by step instructions for some games? I tried searching the forum and only come up with some old stuff for DK2, and I have the CV1.
Alien Isolation, and Left 4 Dead 2, both give me super zoomed-in menus where I can’t see anything properly.
Then, once I got into A:I the motion was reversed. I move my head left, screen goes right. Then, the height is all weird.
I thought this $40 purchase was touted as the “plug and play” version of this kind of software…. what happened?
I would think that each game would already have a sticky, where people can go and just follow the steps. Or a wiki or something.
Anyway, please share some got simple, step-by-step instructions for Left 4 Dead 2, Alien Isolation, Witcher 3, Star Citizen, Assetto Corsa, Dirt Rally, Project Cars, Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Dear Esther.

    Thank you!

Adjusting FOV is crucial for a good experience. If the optimizer fails for some reason or there is no optimizer entry, please either check for tutorials online (google FOV + Game) or use the workarounds that vorpX provides if that also fails.

The link below for example explains how to bind the FOV command to your W key in Portal 2 if the Game Optimizer fails for you.

There also is a quick and dirty setup described in the vorpX help, called the 1-2-3 Game Setup. While not providing the optimum possible, this essentially works with every game within seconds, supported as well as unsupported. You can find it in the config app.

That is intentional. If you are 100% sure that a game can maintain 90fps rock solid on your PC, you can disable FluidSync on the display page of the ingame menu. Otherwise leave everything as it is or you will get heavy judder.

Ok I ran the benchmark of Dirt3 with the lowest settings and got 130 minimum fps score. Then I started the game using vorpX and disabled fluid sync but this resulted in 45 fps for both, game fps and for the HMD itself. :(

I have played with the other settings on this settings page but no combination resulted in higher game fps.

    @hapisko

Because low fps results in motion sickness for me I currently ignored the stereoscopic 3D mode.

Just wondering what sort of time is involved to make a game work with Oculus.
    Dirt Rally.
This game worked fine with runtime 0.8 then they patched the game and took away oculus support for runtime 0.8 and no 1.3 support.
Should it take 3 or 4 months to get it working or are they taking the piss.
Are they CodeMasters or Code Masterbaters.

Not all games have a Game Optimizer entry. Game Optimizer is totally separated from stereo profiles.

If a game does not have a scalable HUD, you can use EdgePeek (middle mouse button) to see the whole HUD and use menus.

FOV tutorials are very easy to find for almost any game by googling for FOV + game name. There also is a quick and dirty method that works with almost any game within seconds by using the image zoom in the vorpX ingame menu, although at the cost of visible bars.

I really hate do the RTFM thing all the time, but all of this and more is actually explained as comprehensive as possible in the Essential Game Hints Guide and the Quickstart Guide in the vorpX help.

Take 10 minutes to actually read these, and you will have a lot more fun using vorpX.

Vorpx was working fine for me in every game

    Skyrim
    Zombiu
    Dirt 3
    Aliens vs predator 3
    Penumbra
    Amnesia
    Bfbc2
    Alien isolation
    Necrovision
    Gtaiv
    Gtav
    Bf3/4
    Payday 2
    Far cry 3/4

Then after the 0.9.1 version I got the error “unnable to initiate oculus runtime”, this was because the new driver invalidated every occulus runtime version below version 7.

Now only Skyrim and Zombiu work.

Updating to windows 10 made every game on steam and several others crash instantly upon starting, despite them working perfectly before the update to 0.9.1. and after several days of troubleshooting I am certain the problem is privilege related, to uncontingent framework dependencies, and those are basically just i/o. What really changed was not changed by me.

Im guessing the reason you couldnt use clone screen but used direct to HMD is the same reason i am getting the crashes, because the process that simulates direct to hmd is what is malfunctioning.

So I am instead forced to do a system restore to fix this, but the vorpx autoupdater is a pain, I have to be offline to use it.

If there was an option to not update beyond a certain patch i would be very grateful, at the current time whatever features are added do not matter because i am unnable to run almost any games with them anyway.

In windows 10 there is slight mouseacceleration which makes it unservicable for practising counterstrike unreal tournament or starcraft II at a competitive level, and i am not talking about the improved pointer precision feature.

I would bore you with links and videos of how i can compete at any level with the occulus rift as the FOV inflation makes you extremely accurate (try it for yourself if you dont believe me!) but giving an alternative just for me and a couple of others who struggle with windows 10 is a longshot anyway.

The reason i dont mind using direct to HMD is because i have gotten extremely good at running it, first i turn the HMD on, then i use launchy to start executibles using touch such as Vorpx, i never have to see them even open. For windows i close one eye and have perfect perception, i have to admit it was very difficult in the beginning and i understand the efficiency is much greater with the “Direct HMD access from apps” mode, but the compatability renders this useless for consumers that are not developers.

Are you certain 0.9.1. works with the games i have listed?

Either way vorpx is the best software for vr gaming, the customization perticularly with the real time IPD, 2d FOV and headtracking sensitivity was worth every penny i spent, when fully optimized i can play for days and not get motionsickness, so thank you deerly Ralf and the vorpx team.

Think I’m having a similar issue with a DK1 setup and 0.9, only tried Dirt 3 and vorpX Desktop Viewer so far but it’s like the left screen is displaying what the right should, tried a bunch of things, I upgraded to oculus SDK 0.8 as they said everything that works with 0.7 will work with 0.8 but I just reverted to oculus SDK 0.7 just to make sure it wasn’t the issue, I tried recalibrating my IPD profile, even deleted the profile entirely and created a new one, I’ve tried selecting Do not use an oculus profile in VorpX and manually inputting my IPD, I’ve tried altering settings in game not sure whats up with it, it’s hooking in properly and oculus is functioning perfectly with everything else, just vorpx not working right.

I’m having some issues with my DK1 setup and 0.9.0, the images are crossed eyed like the left screen is showing what the right screen should and vice versa this is happening in both Dirt 3 and in VorpX Desktop Viewer, I’ve tried recalibrating my IPD profile, even deleted the profile entirely and created a new one, I’ve tried selecting Do not use an oculus profile in VorpX and manually inputting my IPD, I’ve tried altering settings in game as well, not sure what’s going on, just removed 3dvision driver just incase that was interferring, it made no difference.

hello I play without problems with the gamepad.
I turn it on before you start the game and before vorpx and it’s good.
    I have a xbox360 wireless controller.

I switched to Windows 10 and nothing works.
I wait for the 0.7 runtime and vorpx update.

Thank you so much for this, making sure my controller is turned on before loading up VorpX completely changes the input and lets me control the game with my controller without issue.

Spent a few hours zipping around in my various cars and loved it.

Dirtbiking was far less comfortable though lol.

I followed this, it does work for 2014 and it links to everything you’ll need.

For F1 games, (I’ve got 2012 and 2014) you need to have Open track for head tracking and to adjust the FOV I followed this tutorial: http://www.entertherift.fr/article-606-maj-tuto-f1-2012-13-et-dirt.html

As for myself, there are times vorpX doesn’t want to hook and restarting my computer helps. You said you have the Rift set to extended, do you also have it set as your primary monitor? Also, before I get into game, I don’t have the lens cups in. It makes it a lot easier to navigate around the desktop and get into the game. Once I am in game (going into time trial and a track to test head tracking in F1 for example) I’ll put in the lens cups and put on the Rift.

I procedure is to turn on the Rift, wait for my monitors to adjust and then start vorpX and if need be, Open track, then start>steam>game. It loads in the rift and the warning appears (even though I checked it not to) and I wait until I am through all the menus and into the game before putting in the lenses and playing.

I have little trouble with my games, though it is about 70% chance that head tracking will work in F1 without restarting my computer. Most other games work fine, though I did have an issue with Far Cry 4 locking the look stick so I couldn’t use that to help recenter the view. I couldn’t look left and then move the look stick as I straighten my head but still face left… which made me conscious of trying not to get tangled in the cord.

And there were a few times that I was so frustrated, especially at first, that I wanted to throw my computer through a window and rip out my hair. However, one day things just worked and I have no idea what I did… if some drivers updated, or I didn’t do something that I was previously… but all the black screens with audio, laggy jittery input, etc, was gone.

I do hope you get your issue resolved.

Ok, got my Rift a few days ago, got Vorpx today… I got it on the strength that it ‘captures’ games as they load and makes them work..

Well for some it might, for me.. not so much.

Yes I’m in extended. Yes I have tried the contortionist approach of pressing miriad keyboard combinations to make stuff appear on the right screen.. NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING works.

Heres my experience. (after applying the settings from the vorpx configuration util)

Batman Arham Asylum: Black screen on both Rift and PC, crashes PC to point of Restart

Dirt 3: loads again to black screen.. Game working can hear it. Nothing else seems to work.

Vanishing of Ethan Carter: Screen looks like its doubling up on itself in the center of the screen, almost like its overlapping. Cant see any of the menus, seems fov is all wrong.

F1 2013: Fov IS all wrong, and game unplayable because view too close to everything.

They are just the games I have istalled at the moment but this is not a good ‘start’ :(

Any and all help will be appreciated, thank you for your patience with a noob.

It does, and I don’t remember seeing an option to map the controller options like that and I’ve tried various times of turning the rift and hoping to see something change in the game settings or in the vorpx menu, though perhaps I was doing it wrong. Regardless, I do have head tracking now in most games, trying to get head tracking in Test Drive Unlimited 2 and Flight Simulator X but haven’t been successful with them yet.

I’ve had no troubles with Dirt 3 or Borderlands Pre-Sequel, took a bit to get Skyrim and F1 2012/14 to work but they work now.

Games that work for me are:

    Borderlands Pre-Sequel
    Dirt 3
    F1 2012
    F1 2014
GTAIV – haven’t gotten head tracking yet
    Skyrim
Flight Sim X, though it opens on a different monitor and haven’t gotten head tracking, I do have 3D.

Though, except for Borderlands and Skyrim, I use Opentrack for head tracking.

Just a guess, but would it be possible that you accidentally activated EdgePeek (middle mouse button). That would also zoom out the image, regardless of menu settings.

BTW: For Dirt 3 (and most other Codemaster games) there also is a third party option to enhance the FOV directly in the game engine, which would make using letterbox modes in vorpX obsolete.
